I was there. Ryman Auditorium (original Opry House) / Nashville November 5, 1970. They did this song three times. This is the third take. An incredible night. Eric (Derek and the Dominos) did six songs. Only one other song ("It's Too Late") was broadcast. I snuck backstage and got Clapton to sign my copy of his first solo album. It hangs today in a frame in my office. I was 17 years old.

@@broncobrian2344 I think most of the general public doesn't know about him. He's the least famous of the Sun Records "big five" (Elvis, Johnny, Jerry Lee, Roy & Carl), but he was VERY influential with other musicians. There are certain guys like that, like Bo Diddley or Phil Keaggy, who seemed to have achieved moderate success with the public, but contributed a LOT to the industry. So yeah, absolute legend, but sadly, not quite so popular as many of his contemporaries.

Agreed. I always find it fascinating that when anybody appears with a guitar on CZcams the comments section becomes dominated by people who have never picked one up in their lives talking about 'who is the best guitarist?' Naturally, they have strong opinions on the matter. It is about as daft as asking 'who bakes the best bread.'
What is wonderful here is to watch a team who mutually respect each other and are clearly really nice blokes. In 'Carl Perkins and Friends' George Harrison makes clear that he was clearly humbled by Carl's artistic talent on the guitar, There is no doubting his sincerity.
What you also need to bear in mind is that people who have mutual respect do not try to grandstand each other. For how this can go badly wrong, see Prince's live contribution to 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' (available on CZcams). No one can doubt that Prince was a great stylist and a great guitarist. However, there is a time and place to show off.

Clapton is amazing. He was a blues, rock and roll and folk player. The fact that he got up on stage and played a solo with these two greats in a genre (country/rockabilly) which was not his main scene speaks volumes to his skills as a guitarist and musician, This is a wonderful 2:25 minutes of music, marvellous.
