George played those notes to "That's Alright", almost verbatim to the way Scotty played it. This performance proves that George was a serious student of Scotty and Carl both. I never get tired of watching this.

I understand the flaws of 70's and 80's Eric Clapton but also realize he was probably drunk here and he didn't get totally clean and sober until November of 1987. When asked for an audition he promply mounted a tour bus and schooled Lennon and McCartney on how to play lead guitar on a summer night in 1958. Made them believers so fast they hired a fifteen year old ON THE SPOT. 15 YEARS OLD!!! Lennon only knew banjo chords and Macca couldnt play lead guitar.......Yet. George could, with authority. @Michael I get your point, but you can classify them in a lot of different ways. Elvis was a contemporary, and showman or not, he was arguably responsible, at least in part for people even knowing their names. The Beatles idolized him. He took Carl Perkins' songs to another level of popularity and fame. Stray Cats worshipped him (and others). So yeah he was a "showman," but he also had charisma and presence, and it's not like he didn't have talent.

@@drjmankx37 As much as anything else, he had a good manager, as much as I hate to say it.

Cindy Klenk well put Cindy. In this context, these guys aren't only trying to please and impress the audience. They're pleasing each other and themselves! At the end of the day they're just having fun - which is when music sounds its best! And you can see every person on that stage is loving it.

Carl Perkins is right up there with Chuck Berry, Elvis and Roy Orbison as the kings of rock and roll.

The three Brits helped Hare Krishna people & we love them. (They hosted the founder teacher Srila Prabhupada ... George bought the movement a MANSION, and financed printing of the beautiful Vedic scriptures.) WHAT GENTLEMEN. GEORGE IS SO MISSED. WHAT a great but short life. He contributed to a future spiritual upliftment. Who has not loved "My Sweet Lord"... We are shouting Hare Krishna. - Hallelujah.. AMEN.
