Elvis once said that Roy Orbison's voice was the most pure and perfect voice he had ever heard.
This song was probably written with Elvis in mind!
Elvis wasn't wrong
That's so awesome. I have always related the 2 of their voices to each other.
And he was right. ❤
.....THE CARUSO OF THE ROCK.....
I'm 44 and just discovered the wilburys, wow.
Better late than never..
Love it to I am 82 thank you for listening ❤❤❤❤❤xxxx
No worries, it's all good. I just revisited this after hearing the music segment on NPR this morning which closed with "End of the Line" because the reporter noted the Wilburys were his favorite "Alter-Ego group." However, I personally was never aware of the 'supergroup's existence until 1993 when, listening to WNEW here in NYC at work, Scott Muni regularly played them. But the fact is these hits came out in the fall of 1988, so even I was five years behind the times! Anyway, it's very bittersweet watching this knowing just Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne remain. We were truly blessed (thanks to Harrison) that these five amazing talents came together and gave us this.
No way! 😂 These guys are superb!
Roy's voice never fails to blow me away, even after all these years.
probably my favorite part of this song, honestly
Same ❤
all the other guys kinda sound like the same guy and then comes Roy 😁
I thought this was just a Roy Orbison song, searched his name because I didn't know the title, but nothing seemed likely, so I asked Google what the song was and hummed it. It worked perfectly.
I had completely forgotten that The Travelling Willburies existed! What a lineup, holy cow!
Was wondering if that was Roy Orbison
Who else is listening to this gem in 2021? Who else was around to hear and fall in love with this when it was first released?
Me!! this is music. Some of the best there's ever been.
I’m here
This is what you call a supergroup! I was there when it came out
Yep.
.loved it then.....love it now!!...;))
This is real, true music at it's best ✌& ❤
I’ m 77, near the end of the line, and these days need handling with care. The guys were of my generation, the heroes of my youth. It’s a joy to hear them together.
No your not at the end...you still have lots of living to do. I care!🩵
Thank you.
Wish you the best brother! I’m only 16 but I love the voices of all 5 of these legends too!

The definition of a Super Group. Harrison, Petty, Orbison, Dylan, Lynne. We were lucky to experience this.
next to the highwaymen
Если видели их вживую - поздравляю и по - хорошему завидую
I saw Petty in Concert 17 times. I was also lucky enough to go to the same college as his daughter and she gave me 4th row seats and I went backstage and smoked pot with her in his dressing room. I saw Dylan when he used to get pissed at the audience but he was still awesome. To the Petty family, love and respect.❤

The way Orbison so effortlessly expresses sadness and longing always catches me off-guard. You are never ready for the power of that voice.
Well said!!😊
That childhood photo of him is haunting, too. He looked like he carried a lot of worries.
I was Blessed to see Roy live two times.. Including his last ever concert... yes.. so effortless , beautiful voice... I grew up listening to him.. incomparable.. God rest his soul

Still listening to this in 2024 and still in awe of how great each of these artists were and are. To have them perform together for a short time as the Travelling Wilburys was pure music gold. Hard to believe that only Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan remain alive today of this wonderful troupe. The songs of George, Roy, Tom, Bob and Jeff and their legacies have and will remain long after them.
I know, right? That's the way I feel. "Death shall have no dominion"? Don't know about that. So sorry these men are gone. Gotta take solace in their recordings and live performances. But sheesh! Death sucks!

George Harrison was an musical legend

When George says “sweet smell of success” the smile on Roy’s face gets me every time!! RIP gents.
I had to go back and find this moment in the song....you are right, it is a 'gets me' moment.
The smile has an element of amused irony given that George was part of a group which had unparalleled success.
Me too. They absolutely loved each other. We shall not see they’re like again. Sadly.
it's funny, the brief smile i notice is when George smiles after saying the line, babe your adorable. i felt that was him keeping it lite and whimsical as a beetle as many of their songs were. the smile is so short you barely see it but its priceless.
My god Roy Orbison’s voice is like pure silk.
Cool rain that drips down an aloe leave upon a silken gown.
Golden silk.
Elvis considered him the king. Look it up.
I know right? I can't even describe how much I'm into his voice!
Roy came to my unit in Vietnam on a USO tour group. Went the evening was over he told the band boys that he was staying they ask how long and he said, " as long as they want me." I will never forget that day.
Jeff Lynne is the most underrated musician of all time in my opinion

Roy had been through a decades-long dark period when this came along. What these guys gave him right before he died was an understanding of his rightful place...he was a great among the greats.
Oh yes! It will never be better!!!!!
Roy had a lot of hardships and heartaches in his life. It was great to see him at the top again before he passed. One of the greatest singers who ever lived. Truly the voice of an angel.
B Miller Such a lovely comment 😊
B Miller ......an astute (and perfectly accurate) observation and a lovely comment. I’m old enough to remember Roy’s personal tragedies, he said his music helped him “cope”. Even throughout Roy’s musically “lean” years, the man was *always* loved in Australia and toured here often. Despite not having released new material much less enjoyed a “Hit” song in many years, his concerts invariably sold out and I think that speaks volumes.
@@pleasantvalleypickerca7681 Amen! He had one of the most beautiful voices, we've ever been blessed to know--I could listen to Roy Orbison all day long. If you ever get the chance, check out his "Black and White Night" concert--it's great!😊⛪
This is what happens when the British and Americans work together. Sheer perfection!
Roy Orbison’s voice must be one of the most beautiful ever, if not the most. Such a tone and naturality.

Hard to believe that Jeff Lynn and Bob Dylan are the only members of the TW's who are still with us. Harrison, Orbison, and Petty left us much too soon. This kind of 'patchwork quilt' of musicians was highly underrated, yet it was comprised of some of the most talented musicians that this world has ever seen, or ever will see. Lennon and McCartney might disagree.
@@topaloco George carried Lennon and McCartney to a large degree, especially Lennon as Paul was admittedly pretty dang talented too. Who do you think taught John Lennon to play guitar? Had they treated him better the Beatles may never have broken up.
@@joshlight6892 George was a fantastic guitarist and musician, and while he was certainly taken for granted somewhat by his bandmates (and the fans) in the 1960s, he's pretty highly regarded in retrospect and admired universally. He's got a handful of amazing tunes that rank among the very best of all the Beatles (though he was really just beginning to hit his songwriting stride as the band was breaking up); however, it's patently absurd to suggest that he "carried" Paul and/or John, particularly in their early-to-mid-career, when Lennon was both the primary songwriter and unequivocal band leader, and George was clearly third fiddle in every respect. Let's give George his due, but take care not to so wildly overstate your case that you end up sounding simply ridiculous.
@@topaloco John Lennon had a bombastic personality and was certainly a great songwriter. And he learned a lot on the job instrumentally as well. But I don't believe the Beatles would have been as big as they were without George Harrison, and it was in large part because of issues with him they wound up breaking up. He was the one who had them ahead of their time instrumentally. It was only public perception that had him third fiddle. I will revise my statement somewhat though, I do think both Harrison and McCartney helped take Lennon to another level. Paul had enough range with instruments to carry his own weight similar to George. But I don't think Paul and John alone could have carried the Beatles, without George in my opinion they would have been another Monkeys type of band or Status Quo. It was Harrison that elevated them to a level above bands like that. And I do maintain my position that they treated him unfairly. At one point they even wanted to replace him with Eric Clapton, which from a sheer talent standpoint I can't blame them, Clapton may be one of the few people who would have been an upgrade over George, and that's saying a lot. In short, I'm not saying Lennon and McCartney were without talent, but I don't think anyone in the Traveling Wilburys takes a back seat to them, and George deserved as much credit for the success of the Beatles as they did and didn't deserve to be a third fiddle.
Jeff Lynne is the 6th Beatle.
One of the best super groups ever.
One of the best collaborations in music history ❤
This was a super group like no other i do think all will agree
I agree!
Try buying this!
Turns out George was in 2 super groups
Here here agree 100%
The highwaymen
When you have 5 legends all playing together and there’s not an ounce of ego in the room, you get this amazing music.
Perfect observation. No ego, no ulterior motives just having a good time and doing what they do best. Amazing how aura and feelings just drip right into the music, always amazed by that after over 50 years. When I listen to the Traveling Wilburys it brings back so many memories unlike any other "group". Talk about a super combination, WOW.
Agree!!! so cool!
To be honest, it's kinda shit when you consider how good these guys are in their respective acts.
And goosebumps
Just supreme
I remember I used to listen to Handle With Care and End Of The Line over and over again in 2020 that I sorta had enough of these two songs. Yesterday, I listened to The Traveling Wilbury's, Vol. 1 for the first time and fell in love with the band again.
I don't remember not getting teary-eyed whilst singing this song along with them since the first time I did it. I love these boys way too much. So grateful to be able to enjoy their music!
I don’t know if you realize, this is one of the all time acts of art. comradeship, empathy, yearning, achievement. George Harrison wasn’t recognized properly by John and Paul band leaders. This track seems a deeply significant song for George. He has many signature songs.
He was the best of the beatles
well literally and in other great ways they all had their part to play. I love them all.
George had said if Elvis was alive they'd of asked him to join! Can you imagine?
That would be epic.
That would be epic.
Hell yes epic as hell
The Beatles turned Elvis into a dinosaur.

I remember when this first hit radio. We didn't have internet, we didn't have rumor mills, nothing that told us of this super group in the works. Suddenly the DJ's are saying "yeah, stop what you're doing and take a listen to this new group." First you're hearing a voice that you would swear is George Harrison. Wait, that IS Roy Orbison, no one sounds like that. That's Tom Petty, is that Bob Dylan singing with him? Jeff Lynne is involved? HOLY SHIT!"
amen..The only similar talent level super group I could think of would be country music's "The Highwaymen"
Pure tallent.
Ja!
Genau so war das...unvergessen!!!
Hell yeah
@Evan Vivier who is the drummer ?
This has to be THEE best ever super group ever. Absolutely effing amazing ❤️❤️
Pocas veces podremos encontrar tanto talento en una música .esto es arte señores
Imagine being in the studio the day this song was recorded. So many legends in one space... the melding of genius minds
Completely agree
totally agree 🤩
It would be great to write songs with them and travel troughout roads with nature around :)
There documentary on here of them making the first album the true history of the travelling wilburys well worth a look
I agree 100%! I would be star struck with admiration!
They checked their ego at the door-and made some music!
Luv them mate good. ! Sins the 80s enjoy mate
I think most of them were long over the rock star ego thing by then, I know Tom Petty never had that problem.)
@@dr5744 I agree. I don't think any of them had any ego. They just wanted to be musicians
A true super band!
This is what a supergroup is , no ego just total talent
We all need another 'Super Group'. No-one can compare to the Wilbury's, but surely, it's out there 🎸
Who else is listening in 2023 to the best supergroup ever?

RIP George , Tom and of course Mr. Orbison. You helped us through many a rough patch.
Thank you Mr Tambourine Bob Dylan 😊
All the more poignant, listening to, watching, this now, knowing George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty are gone…
What a gorgeous group of folk/pop/rock royalty who gathered to create such sweet music together under one name - a rarity, indeed!
I still marvel at the surreal planetary alignment that resulted in this, even twenty and thirty years later…
This truly is an amazing collaboration, purely timeless and such a wonderful song.
so many have passed! In our heads and hearts!
@José Luis D. Zúñiga Rodríguez tu sabes compa'✌🏼
I just wish they could have cranked out a few more albums while they were together. Some of the best music any of these guys produced in their careers were as the Traveling Wilburys.
*@jipsigal*
*Amen to that sister* 😎 ❤ 👍
An amazing group of musical icons. No heavy egos here, just admiration.
The Super Group we lost too soon.
