@OzixiThrill Yeah, it's the old moral panic, scare the normies angle the media's played for years with gaming, I do see 2 issues with it now, though: 1) gaming is a much more mainstream activity that it was even a decade ago so the lack of knowledge such moral panics depend on is considerably lessened 2) The pervasive apathy and lack of trust generally held for anything the media comes out with.

You should also be aware it wasn't the media calling people that. It was the media reporting on people calling people that. That is a rather fine distinction. The same with the whole shooting bit. Because the same song and dance would show up later with Call of Duty. News reporting on people in positions of authority or loud groups claiming CoD is making people killers is not the same as the news calling people killers because CoD.
Racist and sexist have a fuck ton of merit in the criticism of the gaming hobby. Even if those people are in the minority they are very loud and do a lot to get noticed. Hell they have done peer reviewed behavioral studies on this that shows an increased tendency for male gamers to get more upset when a woman beats them in a game then a guy does.
As for the racist bits. Remember when a loud minority of people got unnecessarily pissed off because Angraboda was black in GoW Ragnarok? Never mind all the other changes to norse mythology. Nope the existence of a black character as a b tier side character got them pissed because how dare black people exist in their white fantasy game.
I agree with the ME3 complaints about people. The original launch ending was half baked. But they were also only give 2.5 years to make the 3rd game. They had to beg to get another 6 months to develop the game. Most games have on average 4-6 years in development.
Post extended cut release however the endings are fine. And in discussions about that it continually boils down to "I didn't get what I wanted so this is bad". Rather then actually addressing the story quality it self. I know you wanted Shepard to ride off into the sun set on a unicorn. But that really wasn't going to happen. Nor were the Reapers going to be beaten without sacrifices.
This view is based on years of conversations and discussions on forums and other social media. If I had a dollar for every time someone justified what happened to the Quarians on Rannoch during the Morning War and claim the Geth were fully in the right I could retire by now.
I actually did the math once and assuming Rannoch had a similar population as present day Earth. Post Morning War you could stack the skulls of every dead Quarian to the moon around 1.8 times. Meaning you could climb from sea level to the moon and back without touching the same skull twice.
When you can almost travel to the moon and back on a pile of skulls. That is not self defense. That is deliberate and calculated genocide. Going far beyond any ability to claim self defense.

If anything, they benefited greatly from the first GamerGate, making a majority of people believe that gamers are mostly racist and sexist, and then sites like Kotaku milked that topic for years.
