Adding Bolt Snaps

Carrying on with the "Lockdown Equipment Series", here is the method I use to attach bolt snaps to my backup lamps.
I also use this method to attach bolt snaps to the long hose and to the SPG when I am backmount diving.
I shot and narrated the video in real time to try and show that it is fairly quick and simple - so no reason not to tidy up your equipment or add some colour these days :-)

why not just use a plastic cable tie? installed in seconds and cheaper too

They will become brittle eventually and can break easily if you twist them. I personally tie on items that will be lost with a single point of failure (I.e. flashlights will fall from your harness) and zip tie items that will still be attached (i.e. an extra regulator attached to my necklace but is still attached via it's hose).

It's a good question and I think it is mostly because I want to reduce plastic where I can - and also, should it break, I don't want plastic left in the water.
I agree they are quick and easy, but that's perhaps not a good enough reason to use them.

Just use a zip-tie...they come in pretty colours too.

Do NOT use zip ties, they wear out after time and will not keen your stuff secure

@@sinetwo Have used them on gear for years with no problem buy have had gear with sharp edges cut through nylon cord in months.

To be frank, zip ties have their purposes (quickly adding loops and attachment points to gear in a pinch) but I find them to be hard on hoses for long term (cuts grooves into them) and had one break on me before (luckily I recovered the flashlight it was attached to). In most situations, tying your own knots with cord is the way to go for durable attachments to equipment and hoses and I always keep a few feet of nylon cord handy for this reason

@@rubiksfaq9214 I hear you but I've had many Nylon cords become cut loose from their bolt snaps due to sharp edges on the attachment points. As for pinching hoses...you're pulling them too tight. They both work so whatever one likes is fine...I use both methods.
