Heating System for Cold Water

- A few weeks ago I was back in "Cold Water" (that's less than 15 degrees Celsius for me) diving some caves in France .
I wanted to share some of the details of the equipment and the setup for my sidemount configuration.
I'm using a combination of SANTI Diving and GRALmarine extreme diving expedition support equipment which keeps me warm and comfortable :-)
The equipment is fitted to my Go Side Mount Razor 2.5 Black Edition system and was supplied by my dealer Audrey Cudel - Sport
Hi Vas. Santi recomends to use no more than 12v power. How does your heating vest work with 14.4v Gralmarine battery? Are you able to use maximum battery voltage or do you limit it to 12v using regulator? Thank you.
The round regulator transforms 14.4V to 12V as well as allow three different heating levels
I would really like to know your undergarment combination with the Santi vest is. I have the Santi vest, what do you use with it? I am from the UK but live in Denmark now and naturally pretty cold sea temperatures in the winter. Your qualified advice would be very welcome. Very good video, thanks
Hi,
So I use a thin base - 4th Element J2
Then the Vest
Then a layer on top - 4th Element Arctic usually
All depends on the water and your sensitivity to it. With the above I can do about 90mins in 5c using the heat and maybe longer with the heat higher to start with
Hi Vas, what are your approximate cable lengths for the Regulator, please?
Yes, what makes you ask?
Hey Vas, do you have any thoughts on why your Razor dump valve is in the right side and the drysuit valve is on the left? I was told to switch it when going from wet to drysuit.
How long is the cable of the heating tank?
Thanks for your videos, I wish you all the best :-)
The side you choose comes from the idea of wetsuit diving when you would want your left tank to supply the wing inflator as this is the tank you put on first and would want to be able to establish buoyancy.
However, feeding the wing this way is "against" DIR and it means that should you need to be assisted during a swim, the rescuer has to be able to access all of your dumps (wing and dry suit) and theirs using their left arm (right arm is holding your reg/air way). If you look at twinset wings, the dump is on the left and inflates from the right tank/post.
So it is not about wetsuit vs dry suit, more about the contingency planning and team equipment matching.
The cables has two ends - 130cm and 15cm for me - Gralmarine custom make these to order for you.
Hope that helps.
