If this is an S1 and you have a vacuum problem, the lights are always down, not up. They changed this with the S3 model.
I have a 65 Elan, had it for 21 years, originally bought it with 11K miles, I put 20K on it--- one break down 20 years ago (bad coil)- and other than that, no failures or break downs.
That is encouraging news
What a beautiful car! You all must be exceedingly proud of doing such fine work in bringing back such an important car and letting this iconic car shine again.
Great video. My dad and I are restoring an Elan 26R to factory spec (making it look as original as possible) and this has given s much inspiration.
Amazing restoration. Congratulations. My own is a '64 in BR Green. I second your comment that no other car offers the same driving experience. It's just a scream to drive with that "click shift" gearbox, the phenomenal F1 inspired suspension, and yes, astonishingly comfortable. An Austin Healey 100 feels like a buckboard in comparison. Yet it is a bit flimsy, a few rattles, the door handles barely work. But it's all sooo worth it!
Nicely done restoration and thanks to your sponsors for supporting this. My own S2 was built a few weeks later - also in Medici blue - and the remains were also a garden find!
Fabulous! My uncle had an Elan, wonderful machine. I know a few of the F1 guys are fans of them (including Gordon Murray I believe). Hello from the UK, you have done a great job 👍.
I'm really glad to see this video finally. I followed along with the online blog entries of the progress of the build at the time. I am currently working on my own Lotus Elan project. This adds inspiration. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. This was a tough, but worthwhile project.
Great car ! congratulations from France. you are a connoisseur
Amazing car & how even now almost 60 years after its creation it’s qualities still shine through, despite all the technological ‘progress’ made.
You’ve done a great summary, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Tons of room, very tight, wear small shoes. All original, pieced together from dozens of cars
Superbe voiture, bravo !
Great job looking great. Gotta love it
Great car super video love it.
Nice “Miata”! 😜
Hi Tim, I'm a ong time subscriber, (since the Autox mag days). What a great project! I'm impressed with the cabinets in your shop behind your Lotus. Can you tell me anything about them?
It takes me two minutes to put up the top on my S1.
Too bad there is no kit car version of this now.
I'll begin the bidding at $5k. After all, you got it for free.
Elan rhymes with pan. It's not an Elon.
My brother in law won't stop calling Elon, Ellen. There's no fixing the world.
When are the Americans going to call this car a Lotus Elan, NOT a Lotus Elon....its an insult to me who has driven one for 80k miles in the 70's.
The are saying Eh-lon, not E-lon. Get it right!
I've had mine for over 50 years and I have always pronounced it as Eh-lon.Get over it!
