0:40. Somebody cut out part of the door for easier access to the latch. Good idea! 0:56. It actually is a wiper motor. Lotus adapted it to run the windows. 2:34. You can discard the black ground wire despite the fact that it goes to ground as it's useless in the Elan. It was there to ground the motor when current was run through either of the other two wires giving it 2-speeds for the wipers. For the Elan, the other two wires are all that's needed as they act as positive and ground. When one pushes the rocker switch the other way, the polarity is reversed causing the motor to spin in the opposite direction. 5:26. The lengths of the 4 bolts that hold the window frame are crucial. If you install a longer one than was there before, it will interfere with the glass. Upon reassembly, I suggest running the glass up and down by hand to check for interference before installing the motor. Another great video Karl!

Thanks for the tips! I was curious what was going on with the wiring but decided that was a project for down the road, I'll note this comment for later when I rewire the car. Thank you!

Great to see some progress on the Lotus! Read recently that Gordon Murray still rates the Elan as the best sports cars ever. He should know! I’m sure it’ll be a super fun car when finished.

I love when I see all these guys who have developed absolute crazy cars all come back to loving the Elans and other early Lotus cars. And in general seeing a little revival of the brand makes me happy. Altho the new cars are out of my price range.

Soon, first I'm getting my rx7 back to running driving state so I can back it out of the garage to have more room for the Elan and body work.

Currently taking a little break from the restoration, getting married in 2 weeks and have been concentrating on light restoration on some Porsches at work Currently. I'll be getting back on it soon I hope, hard to justify spending money on the Lotus when the economy is the way it is.
