I was lucky enough to be at the DC concert where she first showed this video to any audience in 1990 . It’s probably one of my absolute favorites of hers in terms of quality and the dancing is out of this world, not to mention the icons of old Hollywood like The Nicolas Brothers, Cab Calloway , and Cyd Charisse . The live performance of this from the Jackson Family Honors show is also 🔥🔥
You missed a couple of storylines, too. The three ladies threw the briefcases down to their husbands so that they could go to work. But the men didn't go to work. Instead, they were goofing off. They were gambling and saw their wives walking their way with the baby carriages, so they ducked off into the pay phone booth. Later that night, they went to a perp show and lo and behold, it was their own wives they were peepinh in on, LOL!! They started arguing. The wives wanted to know why they were there, and the husbands wanted to know the same thing! Seems they were all living double lives, LOL!
Also, the blind man wasn't blind at all. He was a con man!

There is actually a remix with Heavy D as well where he is in the video. RIP. The woman that came out of the store and danced 💃 is Cyd Charisse. She is a famous dancer. Also in the video is a infamous twin brothers named the Nicholas Brothers. They were very well known dancers. There is a video in black and white they did online that they did a 10 minute routine and got it all done in 1 take! That has rarely been done especially for the time they grew up.

The whole video is a tribute to black culture and entertainment of the 1920s to the 40s specifically harlem. The suit they wearing are called zoot suits and it was more associated with black people because some of them were exaggerated and oversize similar to the baggy clothes fashion that gets associated with hip hop back in the nineties. That's why you see the little girls dressed in a certain way because that's how children were dressed like back then put into their sunday best clothes. There ton of old photos from that time period where you will see it and of course that is why you see cab calloway and other legends others have mentioned because they were big stars in music and films from this period of black american history. Nice reaction glad you had fun.
The lady is Cyd Charisse. She was a famous dancer and actress during the 1940s which is the time period this video is styled. The Nicholas Brothers and Cab Callaway as well.
Great review. This came out in 1990 and was the 4th single from Rhythm Nation. She was 24 at the time and a worldwide superstar with this album. Her next 2 albums were also amazing.
This song is fun and fancy free (to steal a Disney film title) but this album as a whole moved an entire generation. It is one people who like Janet have to listen to. Don't just breeze through it....truly listen to its message.
