The first Super Bowl after 911 they played this song for the halftime show. It was incredible. I promise it will bring you to tears.
Best half time show ever.
Undoubtedly a classic. Especially live.
I read somewhere the Edge wrote it that way because it was so fun to play live. Sure sounds like a lot of fun.
It's funny seeing rappers listen to it like this, as Epic as it still is. But Live, when the full Bass, drums flare out and mic resonates without bounds: it's a _totally_ different beast: each drum beat is like a truck hit you.
It's a religious experience live. No bullshit. The lights go up when the drums come in and the whole stadium is jumping and rocking to it. First time seeing that is something else entirely, and I've seen a LOT of live concerts
Yes a definite classic. The Joshua Tree album is a classic masterpiece, and everyone should own it. Love it. My top 3.
Not even a huge U2 fan (and pretty big Bono anti-fan), but have to admit this is one of the greatest albums of all time. Particularly when you contrast it with the state of music when this came out in 1987, it was a collection of amazing songs, all markedly different from anything else being released at the time.
Probably the biggest rock album of the 80s. This or Appetite for Destruction.
Both. Joshua Tree definitely made its own history when it came out. There were several really.
Def Leppard - Hysteria was a big one too. Is it a coincidence that all three came out in 87. Another big one would be George Michaels-Faith, which had little bit of everything.
100 per cent
@Matthew Drake Haha I was gonna reply with Def Leppard Hysteria :)
The original video was awesome, they played on top of a liquor store in downtown LA without the authorities permission. Thousands showed up. The police shut them down.
U2 wrote a song about Billie Holiday - Angel of Harlem. Great song.
Those early U2 albums are fantastic. This song also has a great, award winning video.
I think you guys should continue on with some more U2 songs. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, I Will Follow, Sunday Bloody Sunday, a lot of great songs to dive into.
Bono's name is actually Paul Hewson. All 4 members of U2 have been playing together since high school in the late 70's. They've never had a lineup change. 1 of the very few who have lasted as long as they have. They may be the longest. Bono even married his high school girlfriend and is still married to her.
Joshua Tree. What an album. Was a monster when it came out.
This album pretty consistently features on most 'If I was stranded on a desert island with only 5 albums, they would be..." lists. It's a classic among classics and is actually, at least imho, pretty hard to actually get through. What I mean by that is the songs are so sweeping; so anthemic, so ... big - I'm usually tired and need a rest by song 4. This song in particular is has been their main encore song for decades now - Bono notes that it has never failed them in a live show; it lights up entire stadiums into a frenzy and I consider it one of their signature works. And this album STARTS with it as song 1. The hole piece is a triumph and really heralded the arrival of U2 as one of the most influential, and successful bands of their time.
One of my all time favorite songs from one of the best albums of all times: The Joshua Tree.
Being born in 1971 I grew up with U2, Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, Eurythmics, ...
Easily one of the best albums of all time upon which this song resides.
It’s a great gateway to one of the best bands of all time. I think you two would thoroughly enjoy the video for this song.
Most definitely a classic. U2 is good! 🤟🏻
There is some great live concert footage of U2 from back in the day. Live Under A Blood Red Sky and Rattle And Hum are a must see for any rock music fan. The performances are all great. The power and emotion at those shows was incredible. It was all about the songs and the performances. This is before they got too "art school" and started performing in front of a wall of TVs, or stepping out of a giant lemon onstage.
U2 "Sunday Bloody Sunday" Live At Red Rocks...Nuff Said.
The whole album is epic. This album changed my life in the 80s... it was hope.. it was life.. it was everything to myself and so many other people at the time. I mean does it sound like an song from 1987? It was so far ahead of its time.
Love this song ❤ thank you guys for your great reactions. I never get to catch you guys live I'm always in the hospital, I have been with you guys for a very long time. Thanks again. Hope you guys and your family are doing well.
the album is a undoubtedly a masterpiece.
Find the live street video shoot of this song, emulated the Beatles video. Bullet the Blue Sky is another great track off this album.
whole album is absolute 🔥🔥🔥. Dont care for their later stuff but this, with or without you, sunday bloody sunday, MLK, Still havent found what im looking for, beautiful day....yeah
U2 is simply the best band of the last 40 years and the biggest live band of the last 35 years
What a wide range of songs you can go with for U2. They've been making music for 40 years or so. Just a few of the hits: Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride, I Will Follow, With or Without You, One, Mysterious Ways, just to name a few. They're considered more rock than anything and have had the same lineup for 40 years. If I could compare them to a current or recent band, I'd say maybe Coldplay comes the closest.
I get ya Smokey, the desert is a magical place. I myself spent a little time in the Sonoran Desert but would love to visit the Mojave.
I able to see U2 in 2017 celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album Joshua Tree. They played entire album plus other hits of theirs like Sunday, Bloody Sunday. Beck was the opener on this tour.
They were so different from everyone. So many have copied them. Saw them live on 6 different tours. One of the best live bands ever.
You guys have to watch the video that was made for this song too. They have so many hits, New Years Day, One, With Or Without You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride (in the name of love), Unforgettable Fire, Every Breaking Wave, Elevation and many more
you got a lot of choices for reactions with this band. many great songs.
It's "The Edge" not Edge. You guys really need to see the official video to get an idea of the scope of things. U2 was the probably the hottest ticket in the world at the time.
This was the song they performed at the half time show of the 2002 Super Bowl between the Rams and the Patriots. It was the first Super Bowl after 9/11 and they raised two huge displays with the names of every person who died in 9/11.
One of the few I like from them. Definitely a classic!
Absolutely one of the best albums of all time.
One of the best albums ever!
Man, this brings back memories...final semester of college, spring 1987. ❤😮
We jammed this record a lot over those last couple months...🙂🎶
Yeah, some other oldies have commented, but this band was a staple before I got into punk/hardcore then metal as a teen in the 80s. The song Bad off of Unforgettable Fire is one of my favourites to this day. Gonna listen to it now...
From all the way back in the day! I was in high school when this song was released. Have you dudes heard of a band out of Athens, GA called Manchester Orchestra? I heard them on an ALT radio station a couple of years back and got hooked. Lead singer has a unique voice. Kind of makes me think of Maynard while simultaneously being completely different. You'd have to hear it for yourself.
Thank you guys. I have two words, “God’s Country.” Keep doing what you do.
Amazing Amazing Band. Haven’t missed a concert since 1987!!!
Jerry doucette "Mamma let him play " early 80's rock
Jazz is much too crazy, he can blame you when he's old, he's too young for the blues, he's still inside his first pair of shoes...he's just a baby
Excellent choice
Love that album ❤
I’m not the biggest U2 fan but they have a lot of great material for sure. Smoke Dog called it: “Irish post-punk”. I recommend “With or Without You”, “Angel of Harlem”, or “Pride (In the Name of Love)” to get a sense of their older style in the 80s that made them famous
If you enjoyed that then Sunday bloody Sunday will blow you away, iconic
My favourite band!
This album was a staple of my teenage years!! Bloody brilliant and had the pleasure of seeing them play live twice.
You really really need to do them at Live Aid doing the song Bad. It's the moment that turned them into superstars. It was the biggest moment of Live Aid besides (of course!) Freddy Mercury/Queen's epic setlist.
A MUST HEAR Classic,, Dr. John "Right Place Wrong Time"..TRUTH!!
This song is about heaven.
The video for this song was huge on MTV back in the day. I was only about 8 years old at the time but I remember it well.
U2 forever ....🤘😎🙏
I’m 25, u2 has been my all time favorite band since my dad pmo to them when I was about 5/6. One of the longest running clean bands of all time. They all went to HS together. Larry Mullen Jr (the drummer) formed the band. Their original name was called The Hype. I think of all bands I’ve ever listened to, u2 has the most album consistency.
The Edge is usually the main guitarist of the band, but if you want to hear him sing check out the song "Numb".
Van Diemans land is a song he sings as well.
The man on the left truly felt this song! Thank you 😊
Just remember, Bono doesn't hold the record... he IS the record.
😆💩
Always a special moment in their live shows
Probably the greatest band of all time. I HIGHLY recommend you all read "U2 at the End of the World"...ANYONE interested in music should read it. Follows the band as they transition from Joshua Tree to Achtung Baby...
Yup an 80's classic 😎😆
This is the first song I play (loudly) as soon as I hit the highway on road trips. ❤
So the concept of this song is quite interesting historically.
The song is about The Troubles in Northern Ireland. In Belfast, one would know which side of the civil conflict you are on by the street you lived on.
For instance, the Falls Road is a catholic, Irish Republican street in west Belfast. The Shankhill is a neighbouring Protestant, Unionist street. You’ll see Irish tricolours flying on falls road and Union jacks on the shankhill.
So “where the streets have no name” is a metaphor for a place where there is no civil war/conflict. A place where such division doesn’t exist.
But it also deals with Bonos feelings after visiting Ethiopia and see how the people had pride/faith even if they had nearly nothing: no food, hardly no clothes, no medicines, nothing. But back in Europe where we have everything we need and more people were kind of lost and lacked a bit of that faith, spirituality and pride.
This was track 1 side 1 of the album/cassette and what an opening. I saw them in concert for the Joshua Tree tour and man when they started this album in track order - WOW the place went nuts! Such a great album.
if this song even remotely interests you -at all- you have to listen to the whole album + the 'Rattle & Hum' DVD. Later on, 'Achtung Baby and Zooropa' are monsters also. The album 'Pop' is a personal choice but I dig it. After that U2 cashed in with their bland dad-rock albums but they are still an amazing live band. For a specific recommendation for you guys, I'd go with 'Bullet the Blue Sky' next. Cheers!
Smokey, the hit you're probably thinking of that U2 had a few decades ago is probably their song 'Vertigo'.
I saw them live 8 times, this song makes your hair stand on end, it lifts your heart❤ You should watch people cover the drum track on this song. It’s freaking amazing.
I will throw hands over that album. So good.
Come on out to AZ! We got deserts, sand dunes, mountains, and forests. Something for everyone
Good job guys. Lived in AZ,-definitely a mystic quality to the desert ;^ }
I never heard of this song but the first time listen to song this makes me so happy thanks to you guys
The guitar work on this is beyond spectacular.
And it's done on one guitar lol
One and Bad (Live) are U2's best songs
this is LITERALLY the most perfect song.....
U2 is one of the biggest bands ever.
In Ireland (where U2 hails from), some streets had/have catholic names (and irish Catholics lived there), while other streets had/have protestant names (and Irish protestants lived there); which in turn help perpetuate the great religious/political divide between the two sides. And in turn Ireland suffered from terrorism as late as the 1990's. The song is about going to a place (a street) that doesn't have a name; and therefore, people can, one day, people will meet where there is no political or religious divide.
Grand funk railroad. Inside looking out. 1971 live.
U2 is the best live in Vegas at the new Sphere!!!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!
dope shit 👌
It still boggles my mind when younger ppl don't know this band. Their moniker was the biggest band in the world for DECADES. they're the same 4 dudes thst started the band, they never split or replaced anyone. How many bands today can claim that? They were everywhere. Now please watch the video. It's one of those videos that you have to see with the song.
You have to watch a live version. It’s incredible!
The Joshua Tree album as a whole is a masterpiece!!! Although a song not on that album (Bad) is my favorite!
I have been obsessed with this band since Jr. High!
"One" is my favorite by them. Definitely take a look at that one!
The famous song (there are a few) but I think you might be talking about is Mysterious Ways. Also my favorite by them such a great song.
LOVE U2 ❤❤❤❤❤🎶
His real name is Paul David Hewson and in high school got the nickname "Bono Vox" = good voice. Incidentally they (U2) were High School classmates and were extremely torn about becoming a rock band due to their early christian convictions.
Live shows so iconic the space station intro'd Beautiful Day for my show. See them live folks it is a spiritual experience.
Their latest album is pretty good. They rewrote the arrangements to all their great songs.
Lol, aww you guys were a good Sport.
Now, try and catch listening to this Beast live: Live it - and prepare to be totally blown away.
Epic band! Do more😊
The band is religious. Fun fact: Anton Corbijn the photographer for the album is Dutch and he pronounces "Joshua" in the way you say "Yeshua" which is Jesus in Hebrew. Bono shared that fact.
This album is amazing! Love this song so much.
One of my favorite driving songs.
The Joshua Tree is one of the most perfect albums of all time. Everyone should listen to it all the way through at least once.
You can hear it on classic rock stations just about daily.
Music from the 80's and the 90's comes from the heart and the soul. That is why it will last for a very, very, very long time.
Epic
My favorite band!! You should react to more!!
The song you guys might be thinking of is "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" or "Beautiful Day," which Smoky probably remembers for being the song over the video package for Triple H's return from blowing out his quad en route to winning the Rumble and then beating Jericho for the belt at 'Mania, in the match after Hogan vs. Rock.
That said, please do "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by these guys from the Batman Forever soundtrack. One of my favorites and a somewhat forgotten banger. But their catalog is so deep, even the hits. You have unearthed a vast trove, fellas. Enjoy! And have a great day tomorrow!
Joshua tree and rattle and hum were their exploration of America through song.
U2 is rock.
Un clasico de CLASICOS
Time To Get DA FUNK UP IN HERE,, The Average White Band "Cut The Cake" (Live On Soul Train Video)
Go U2 90`s) The Fly, Hold me Thrill me Kiss me Kill me, Until the end of the world, Mofo, Discotheque... Elevation.
You should check out their Live Aid session .. from 2 years before The Joshua Tree released.
U2 are very environmentally aware. Bono has his hands in everything from politics to feeding starving people.
The video Smokey is thinking of with The Edge singing back in the day is "Numb", no not Linkin Park...
czcams.com/video/N4jR1RNypG0/video.html
Super cool classic rock I'd call it. They've had their music in movies and a ton of tv commercials.
U2 have been supported by Kanye, on a track with Kendrick... BB King... Mary J Blige... Performed with Jay Z etc etc
