I can just imagine the Samsung engineers telling the higher ups that it’s not ready yet but they still sold it because they want to be the first ones
This is entirely Samsung’s strategy
The problem with theory is that this was their second foldng phone, the first fold was the filled with issue for this reason but by the time this came on out there were half a dozen of these, and they still pushed it out in this state

He got the updated version of flip
I bought one. SOBs at Samsung refused to honor the warranty. They said the warranty is void for not having a case. There wasn't a case at the time.
1. Crack screen line
2. Not going to stand by mode when close
3. Not waking up from stand by mode when open.
$500 to repair it.
I mean if the warranty terms state that not having a case voids the warranty they're not really doing anything wrong aside from writing shitty warranty terms that people like you refuse to read.
damn, that's how they treated you after you paid 1200 dollar for their product?
Wait, warranties require a case? How come I've never heard of this? Is this only for certain phones or something...?

I think my favourite take on the foldable/dual screen phones is LG's dual screen case. It's an optional accessory that you don't have to use but it transforms a lot of phones in their lineup to dual screen ones all with a simple case. Makes web browsing and messaging at once amazing and there's no reason for one uniform display with a layout like that.
too bad they dont make phones anymore. i still use an lg phone
Only the Korean ones have that feature, my v50 cant do that
Have this on my LG V60. Got it free as part of a Verizon promotion, took almost 4 months to get it. Pretty cool honestly, and still surprises a lot of people. Only downside is it makes the phone seriously chunky, both size and weight.
Fun fact. The LG dual screen case is a piece of crap. My dad got the screen case and has nothing but issues with it. It stops having issues when he takes the screen off.
@@Lichen8404 I read so many horror stories about them before I got mine, but wasn't worried since it was free. Mine has been trouble free for almost 2 years, and I am hard on my phones. Definitely a unicorn from what I have heard
I'd just like to share to all those getting recommended this video now. The flip in this video is the first gen, The newer ones (the 3 and 4) have removable screen protectors. So when the screen protector starts de-laminating in the crease(which is what happened to this one) you can easily peel it off, buy a new protector for about 10 bucks, and replace it.
I have had my flip 3 for over a year now, and the only scratch on it is a tiny scratch on the back panel cause I set it on a rock without a case.
How's the denting? Is that in the screen protector too or the glass underneath?

Take a look at their new foldables. They are reliable now.
sounds like my old chromebook. the thing had a (common! half the reviews complained abt this) manufacturing defect with the back cover where it would disconnect itself from the screen in one of the bottom corners if you opened it too much. you would have to quite literally hold the corner together every time you opened the thing. the first time it happened (a couple months after i got it) we replaced the back and then not even a month later it happened again in the other bottom corner. wed already replaced a part so we couldnt use the warranty and if we replaced the back every time this happened it would get expensive fast. my dad wasnt about to get me a brand new chromebook after only four months tho so i just dealt with it. and yknow, it was fine. until the glass in that corner started breaking. like i said, i had to hold it together when i opened or closed it. which meant i was putting my bare skin on broken glass and pushing. problem! so i covered it in tape, which actually held it together so i didnt even have to do it myself! and then the glass broke more. and it broke more. and the back disconnected from the screen even more. and eventually, the entire corner was covered in tape and duct tape and i _still_ had to hold it together. it got to the point where it started just falling apart. i hadnt even had it for a year. this thing last what, 6 months? before becoming a legitimate hazard. it was sprinkling glass whenever any tape came off. this was all during virtual learning. awful awful experience
for my next chromebook, we got one without a hinge, since the hinge was what was causing it. i think it bent slightly every time i opened it? and ended up pushing the lid apart, or something.
pro tip: tablet chromebooks suck ass. idk what the screwed up broken chromebook was called but if you see a light gray chromebook thats all smooth and nice looking and the glass goes down to the hinge DO NOT trust it. it may look nice but it will ruin your opinion of chromebooks forever.
Lol yeaa, i had a touchscreen foldable laptop and it did last me a good while but after like a year of 3 or 4 one hinge got loose and my screen started breaking. Like screen seperated from the metal and splinters everywhere. Had to use tape for a while too for it to last me till a new one. Now almost the whole screen is loose, i could literally rip it off if i wanted. Liked the idea of a foldable laptop to use as tablet in bed etc. It was quite nice but i think the engineering just wasnt/isnt there yet for it to actually last as long as a regular device should
When I was taking mech eng classes, they taught us about "fatigue limit" which is basically the amount of times you can apply a load (in this case, folding). Something like this should've been thoroughly tested and the engineers absolutely knew that it wasn't going to be ready for shipment. @@Wafflebro foldable phones are 100% the future of phones, just nobody has figured out how to do it right yet
@@neckwings The alternative would be extending/rollable phones, but then you can only fit in parts for one phone, while a foldable can fit in almost twice as much.
I remember my first phone. An LG Chocolate Touch. It was back when touch screens on dumb phones were starting and I loved it. I still count it as one of the absolute best phones I've had, along with my iPhone 4S and Google Pixel 2.
my brother has one of these. there is the crease. there is the crack in the screen at the fold, yet he still thinks it's a good phone. "oh the screen protector just needs to be replaced." AND I THOUGHT THAT MEANT HE HAD TO REPLACE IT- BUT NO??? THIS SHOWED ME IT CAN'T BE REPLACED WITHOUT GIVING IT UP, AND IT MAKES SENSE WHY HE HADN'T REPLACED IT YET 😭

There's a Z flip4 now Wade, get to it!
I can imagine the review meeting
Engineer: it's not ready, we need to increase the durability of the screen panel
Management: it's going out the door in a week, get it done yesterday!
Marketing: it bendz the lawz of phyzicz!!!
I absolutely despise whenever marketing gets involved with anything. You’d think legal would have had enough talks with them to curb the indefensible claims they make but no.
I'm amazed the display still works - I guess it proves the folding LCD tech is actually pretty solid but the issue is the glass/plastic you use to protect the LCD, we just don't have the materials that can hold up to that sort of fatigue.
Its oled not lcd
Specifically a type of AMOLED
It's oled not lcd, if you fold lcd it will break no matter what
But this is one dud that this happened to along with many others I'm sure, but I've had one for 18 months and you still can't tell it even folds when looking at it straight on so they do have the technology for it, just had a lot of issues with a lot of them unfortunately, looks like I got lucky
They made the glass thiccer now on the Z flip 3 and it shouldn't have the problem anymore... lets just wait and see...
The Galaxy Z Flip: The Only Phone That Divides Itself With a Demilitarized Zone
I have a classmate from last year who had one of these phones, it was the first time I saw it and I thought “that will break easily”. the next year there’s a line in the middle of the screen

This issue could have been greatly reduced if they simply gave more room for the screen to bend back into the phone.
Only a tiny portion of the screen can actually bend, while the rest is glued flat. This puts lots of stress on that tiny little bend, causing it to permanently crease and eventually crack.
It's a pity such innovative new tech is being showcased in such a shoddy product.

Here's a fun fact: IIRC after some fails with the Galaxy Fold, Samsung now puts a warning in the box saying not to pull off the "screen protector".
I think the same should apply to the Z Flip.

Imagine being the engineer who has to tell customers that that crease isn't covered by warranty.
@@schenkov Yes we do. This isn't a legal matter either, it's Samsung deciding what they consider to be a warranty repair (manufacturers fault) or out of warranty (customer damage).
The crease should be covered by warranty though. It's at least covered by guarantee.
@@CH11LER. this is very much a legal matter, and this is very definitely a warranty repair in Europe.
@@JasperJanssen I'm in Europe. I am a European tech. I follow the guidelines provided by Samsung and if the phone will be covered by warranty or not is dependent on what the company defines as warranty condition or not.
It's not just Samsung, all manufacturers have to draw the line between user error / customer damage and a manufacturer fault.
@@CH11LER. Samsung can write what ever they want. If the device was used in the way one can be expected to use it, Samsung will have to repair it at and bear the cost. At least thats how it works in Germany.
