Feels good to be back, I realize the voice overs aren't for everyone but I quite enjoy them so they will be in some future videos (not all). Hope you enjoyed watching me fix a problem a repair man would normally be summoned for and showing how easy it truely is. Plus, you save a crap load of money. Great feedback Ashley! I'll try to tone it down and improve the timing when I use it next. I'm not giving up on though because I haven't laughed at something I've made this hard in a while and at the end of the day the only person that has to enjoy my content is me and other people that get me. Sure, this is my job and I need people to watch but I would rather just go back to a regular job then to make content that is so friendly everyone can watch it but nobody particularly enjoys it.
Barnacules. Not only that, but if you don't do what you feel comfortable with the quality would drop. That is just how it works, you have to be true to yourself and use whatever qualities you have, by adapting what you do to others their liking you are deviating from what you are good at. Fortunately for you it turns out that many other people like it too. Having said that, I would make the voice (sound) a bit less over the top but that is me. The comments of that voice mostly are fine. I am glad that you are doing fine again. Those kind of infections are nasty.
Think of voice over as what the viewer thinks of at the moment.

IDK what all the fuss is about the voice-overs. I find them to be perfect! It's like It's as if I have some mini me/demonic mini me in my head commenting on the video for me. 😄

Most front load washers are made by one of three or four manufacturers so the parts are often interchangeable.
To answer your first question, the wiring harnesses are likely controls, power and sensors. The door lock is an electronic solenoid so that has power and control. Then a sensor to make sure it's locked out closed.
Also, on my front loader, that "grommet" has gone twice in 15 years. The second time I bought a junk washer for parts for less than the cost of the part.

Welcome back! Regarding the wiring harness, you have three parts: the first connector up top is for the interlock switch that determines if the door is closed, the second, six-pin connector is for the other interlock switch inside the latching mechanism, and judging by wire gauge, the third, largest connector is for the door latch lock solenoid. I'm not 100% certain on this, and I may be wrong on the order of the connectors, but that's what's connected inside.

The voiceovers are hilarious!
That many wiring harnesses are probably needed to check that the door is not only shut, but sealed. In the event the door is opened during a cycle, it would probably signal an emergency fail safe and kill the current cycle or start a drain given its a front load washing machine. Or it's just an over-engineered part to squeeze as much money out of you from service repairs :P
Such an over engineered part that can easily fail and the irony is I could still tape the door shut and it worked. I could have honestly just threw the mechanism in the garbage and replaced it with a screw through some sheet metal I could turn to pin the door shut. Then it would have been a #JerryRigged episode :D
They build this shit with the intent of failing anymore. I just replaced a 25 year old washer and dryer set, the only reason was I got a couple year old newer set for free. Making things that people buy once every 25 years isn't as good of a business as something they buy every 5 years.
Having something for 8 or 9 years before a small part fails would not be designed to fail, in my opinion. If they wanted to design it to fail it would fail in 1-3 years, or even sooner, depending.
I commented elsewhere, but: "Looking a bit closer, it looks like the blue wires are the sensor for the door being open or closed, the black wires are for the solenoid to lock/unlock the door, and the pink wires are power in and out that provide the safety cut-off. While you could just have the electronics shut off the motor when if the door is sensed open, with this, the power to the motor is psychically cut to the motor, so even if the electronics malfunction and the motor is still running, if the door latch fails and opens, it makes sure there motor is no longer running."

Oh boy... Those voice overs are really annoying in this video. I don't mind them in moderation, but this was just constant and most of them didn't even make sense!
The interesting thing is that most people not only liked but absolutely loved it and even praised it as being one of the funniest comedy bits I've ever done. It just goes to show how subjective comedy is when you are such a diverse content creator. I've received emails saying #Codegasm is the dumbest series I've ever made and to never make another one and I've received people praising it for the best tutorial series on the internet for first time developers. The biggest thing I've learned through this data collection is that if I listened to everyone I wouldn't have any content so I just use the data kind of as a guide but will continue to do what I ultimately think is funny because at the end of the day I want to attract an audience that has a similar sense of humor and doesn't want me to conform to theirs because then I wouldn't be me anymore.
Thanks for the feedback Lufferov, it's been a crazy experience to see how much this one little bit divided my audience. It's one of those things that people either love with a passion or hate with a passion and nobody is simply indifferent or doesn't care. That is actually a good thing since I love to evoke emotion from people and this certainly did bring out an emotional response that made people super compelled to be make their opinions heard and that is an awesome thing.
I still plan to refine and continue to use this technique in future videos however it won't be in all videos, just in the 'silly' ones like #DIYGasm and #JerryRigged more than likely. The hardware receives, unboxings and tutorial probably won't have them. I don't make content to appeal to everyone. I make content that appeals to my friends and people that I care about and the people that have similar tastes or enjoy diverse content. There are plenty of other channels out there for people that can't stand the things I do.
You wouldn't believe the crap and threats I received for making my eyes big in thumbnails, have I stopped doing it? Nope, and honestly there was a big boost in viewership overall at the cost of a few people that were so focused on the one thing I did that annoyed them that they forgot about all the things I did that they liked and in that situation they probably aren't a good viewer for my audience at that point since they certainly won't be able to keep pace with my randomness :D

As a long time subscriber (I don't even want to think how long!) I'm thankful for your considered and friendly response. Of course I respect your right to make your videos however you see fit, and I appreciate this is a form of humour you use in these more light hearted videos. I honestly haven't minded them in the past. This was the first video where I felt they spoiled my enjoyment of the video. For my own preference it was just overdone, but as you say, it's all objective and personal opinion. I will obviously continue to be a subscriber and appreciate your videos and I will always support you in whatever you decide is best for you. I just felt, in this instance, that I wanted to voice my own opinion for whatever that counts for.
At the end of the day, I'm just happy you are better and back to making videos!

I'm a commercial Laundry engineer in the UK.
The lock isn't just a lock, it's an interlock; it locks the door and checks it's locked, and then when it detects the motor is running (either with rotation sensors or current draw via an inverter) it prevents the lock being opened electronically. Also, with the lock open, the inverter will not get power, hence it won't allow the drum to spin, thus ensuring your arm stays attached if you tank the door open and stick you hands in. 👍🏻
4:48 It's Made in Germany. No wonder the latch is over-engineered. If it's too simple, let make it more complicated to make it DIY unfriendly Haha! ;)
EXPLANIATION (GUESSED) the door need to KNOW when it is closed because it might not know when its closed so if if is not closed all the way and you start it there would be a mess (im not making sense im sick) so there needs to be good sencors and if 1 fails there should be backup sencors (im just guessing btw)

I’m a commercial appliance repair man. I work on home appliances as well but on the side. I have some answers for you. 1. The reason it’s so big of a part and has multiple wiring harnesses is due to it being multiple things in one part. It has a switch that knows when the door is shut. It has a switch that knows when the lock is engaged. And the lock. The lock itself is not just a pin but rather a thermal actuater that heats up and expands and pushes the pin down when power is applied. Shortly before the end of the cycle it removes the power allowing it to cool. As it cools the pin is able to recede. 2. The reason there is only a handful of lock assemblies is due to Whirlpool and GE being the only two manufacturers of all home washers. The other brands are relabeled.

So many love/hate comments on them. I personally like doing them and will continue to do them in videos where it makes sense for me. But it won't be in all videos obviously. You have to stay true to yourself on this platform otherwise people try to morph you into something they like that simply isn't what "you like".

I think it's a fun, funny way to move along videos and not take itself too seriously.
I won't do it in every video but I quite like it and people that understand and enjoy my sense of humor also enjoyed it. If I stopped doing something every time someone in the comments asked me to I would not have a single video on the channel and not one viewer. There is no such thing as two people on the internet that enjoy exactly the same thing, everyone is a critic. At the end of the day the person I make content for is myself and people that can relate to my content or enjoy my random, quirky sense of humor.
But, again, don't worry, it won't be in every video. But I'll probably do the big eyes in the next video thumbnail just to poke the people that get crazy critical about that. Come on, it's all in good fun :D

Good to see you back on the horse. Take it easy... The main reason the door latches fail is because the door hinge comes loose, then the door drops a bit, and the latch strikes the plastic when you try to close the door. So I'm pleased to see you tightened the hinge screws, which are the underlying cause of the latch failure.
