7:33 Some revisionist history on the Rodgers-Love thing here. He absolutely never "nuked the kid". Aaron was very vocal (wow no way) about being surprised and upset by the Love pick, but he was by all accounts a good mentor for Love and they have both spoken about how positive their relationship was.
Nice opinion. Now cite all those "accounts" of Rodgers being a good mentor!
@@SalaciousBCrumb-md3lk Jordan Love himself. Literally in the last month there was a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article that quoted him as saying he had a great relationship with him.
@@revengeofthedrivein that's for public consumption. Just trying not to get his quote in the headlines
@@johnruplinger2449so is his support to cite Love’s private DMs like wtf are you asking for ?
Yes I’m glad someone pointed that out. The real jerk was Brett Favre when Rodgers got drafted and Rodgers is on record saying he didn’t want to do that to Jordan Love even though he was upset with the pick.
You will never convince me that in the short or the long term that this was a better move than drafting Odunze. Dude is top level talent and arguably the best in this draft class. Passing on a guy like that for a QB that if things work out, won’t see the field for at least 3-4 years and will be 28 then, is absolutely ignorant. I think he’s got a shot to be a great QB, he’s got the experience and he’s had the arm talent since he was at Indiana, but he’s a very big injury risk and best case scenario he’s the guy you already have on staff and just committed 42.5 million a year for the next 4 years to
You're highly naive to think they're sitting Penix for 3 or 4 years. Most likely Cousins will be traded in 2025.
I like watching this new version of Curb, the new Larry and Leon, french kiss
half of last night's picks won't be on their drafted team in 5 years. if they believe in Penix, then they just solidified having a solid QB for 12+ years. giving time to Penix to develop will at least give him highest opportunity to succeed.
It’s crazy to me that people who sit on their couch watching football think they know better than GM’s and scouts who have internal and institutional knowledge on their own teams 😂
@@johnnycash8567the sign of a dummy is that he just blindly accepts what the guy with credentials tells him 😂
@@johnnycash8567guess there’s never been a single bad draft pick in history then.
And also every other GM and scout must all agree with the pick.
@@Bobbleheads56 no jacka$$ of course gm’s and scouts get it wrong. But they’ve dedicated their life to this process so if they can get it wrong what makes you think you know better than them? Tell me your track record of picking players out of college, I’ll wait…
@@tomcustis9272 what’s your track record of scouting player out of college? Why aren’t u getting paid millions if you’re so smart?
Funny that this happened to cousins! He was picked by the Washington football team the same year they drafted RG3.
I remember and in Cousins case it made sense because he fell to the 4th round when he was viewed as a possible 2nd rounder and pro ready at the time. Imagine had Washington done something like sign Philip RIvers that offseason with all their money to a 4 year contract and then drafted Cousins top 10. This is what that would be like. It may easily be the worse pick ever.
I have to ask you…about The Penix Mightier
Will it really mighty my Penix man?
As a Bucs fan I'm delighted to see the only other legitimate contender in the NFC South throwing away a top 10 pick
Falcons fan here what QB have the Bucs ever drafted and your QB is on his 4th team glass houses
@@wilbertbarrett433they will be screaming trade baker half way through the season lol watch. He had an ok season now they think they have their guy
Van is really good at this
It’s not about the player they drafted it’s just dumb the signed cousins for that deal. Then drafted him
Biggest head scratcher I've witnessed in my 26 years. Their offense is stacked, and they just gave Kirk a massive contract, they're clearly in a win now mode. To go and waste the 8th pick (when you already lost your 2025 first rounder for tampering TO SIGN KIRK) on a kid with a longer injury history (significant ones at that) than most NFL vets is baffling. He'll be 27 with probably zero playing time when they would have him become a starter....
Did you not see their QB situation since Matt Ryan left? 🤨
Kirk just got a dose of reality. No more Tuesdays off for kirk
As a Niners fan, it feels like Arthur Blank is doing what Jerry Jones refuses to do: go all in and try anything to win! If Kirk doesn’t work, this looks like a really nice backup plan to have! ❤
Arthur smith is the Steelers oc now
@@johnmichael734 my fault. His last name is Blank. Lol
I think this is the opposite of going all in, it is a pick to help in the future instead of pushing for now with the plan tomorrow's problems for tomorrow's me.
Go all in on a back up in the first round? That’s what going all in is? I thought going all in was addressing an immediate starter need.
This is the opposite of all in. WTF?
Damn this dude was amazing to listen to . Something new.
This could be the dumbest move ever or the smartest…….we won’t know for a few years.
It’ll never be the smartest because if in a few years when Penix is 40 and finally starting JJ will be 25 and not even in his physical prime yet. Rome Odunze will be a pro bowl WR, and Cousins will still be stealing millions from a team while throwing for 4,000 yards.
Joe Gibbs is the greatest coach of all time. 3 Championships with 3 average QBs and a NFC championship appearance with a 4th in the span of 10 years. All while going against the powerhouse 49ers, Bears, Cowboys and Giants in the 80s and early 90s. Everything isn't Boston Bill lol.
😂
Yeah and how many of those super bowls were during strike years? They literally made a movie about how much of a joke the league was the year the redskins won a Super Bowl.
@@Joes35Two of them.
While he might not be the single best, it doesn’t mean Gibbs didn’t get a lot out of what he had in those years.
Would ranking him fourth or fifth be fair?
I say fifth best NFL coach ever.
Three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks and running backs, and as you said, an appearance in the 1986 NFC Championship Game with a fourth quarterback.
Four different running backs too on those teams.
I would say only Lombardi, Belichick, Walsh, and maybe Shula are above Gibbs.
Excellent coach though, more than deservedly made the 100th anniversary team, and I’d say fifth best coach ever.
If he stuck around to do more. He wasn't just a winner, he innovated. First with Coryell, then on his own in DC. I never understood why he didn't get his type QB. One knock on him is that he blew Tampa's chances, when they had the best defense.
The more I think about this pick the less it makes sense
Kirk Cousins is an adequate QB, but coming off a serious injury. We know Cousins upside, and Penix has much higher upside. Cousins can be traded as well if Penix has it.
@@cyberftWas Penix projected to go as high as this?
@@cyberft if Kirk goes as well as they planned when they signed him, then they have a first round pick on the bench of 2-3 years for a possible playoff roster. If Penix ends up hitting, then u have 100m wasting away on the bench of a playoff roster. Mind u the team had any defensive player in the draft to choose from on a defense that needs talent
@@jordancaselberry3223 no guarantee you’ll be able to get a franchise QB later, especially if you are no longer picking at the top of the draft. Cousins is 35 as well, probably doesn’t have much left.
@@cyberftbut why pay him them? That’s what makes the least amount of sense to me personally, why would they have paid him what they did if they were always going to draft a QB?
Drop the drake maye thoughts Bill!
Kirk should have told his agent to stand down and be cool.
Always odd to hear these Bo Nix age jokes when Penix was a rare 6 year senior. Bo was in his 5th year…
“You know, a lot of people go to college for seven years.”
“I know, they’re called doctors.”
Penix didn’t play as a freshman he redshirted. They both played 5 yrs. Bo nix is still OLDER that’s pretty odd huh
@@hueyhoopin You're playing a game of semantics. "Older" by 3 months, they're practically the same age
@@laythefoundation2083yea but he’s still older the original post would lead you to believe penix is older. It lacks context
Same thing as Stetson Bennett and the qb from Tennessee last year. Hint: skin color
The short sightedness of people is baffling
You could give Cousins the world and he still wouldn't get the job done. The Falcons rn are a playoff caliber team in comparison to the last few seasons
Have Cousins get you back relevant play and disappoint in mid to late January and transition to Penix (Who cares is he's a stud at 26/27/28 vs 21/22/23) if he's a top 10 QB in a few years it won't matter
The age thing is far less important than the money aspect. What is the biggest benefit of hitting on a rookie QB? It’s having them for cheap for their first 5 seasons. Once you pay them top dollar, all the surplus value gets washed away (unless they are among the 2-3 elite QBs in the league).
That’s why this pick is dumb. At best you’re only getting Penix’s production (assuming he’s good) cheaply for 2 years.
Plus, for this pick to make sense you basically have to believe that Penix is, by far, the best QB you will have the opportunity to draft over the next 3 years (which is something I struggle to believe). Because the timing to take a QB would obviously be much better in ‘25, ‘26, or ‘27 since that corresponds more to when Kirk will be exiting, allowing you to enjoy more of the benefits of a QB’s rookie contract.
Falcons draft Penix
(Laughing in Belichick)
If that was their plan all along it makes me think maybe belichick turned the
Down
The same bill that wanted to replace Brady with Jimmy G and drafted Mac Jones?
Ya'll Mad Bro???!!! We love the idea....(ATL).
I think they saw what happened to every stacked team last year that had to rely on their backup QBs during pivotal stretches of the year. And they have a QB whose health is already questionable.
I get what you're saying but isn't Penix also an injury risk after two ACL tears?
@@chrischancellor7372 Fair enough. But maybe they're hoping as a younger guy he'll be a little more durable? I don't know. I still think it's a terrible choice. I'm just throwing a guess out there.
@@brianlaughran3941 yeah that makes sense. I liked Penix and think he may be a pretty good pro, I just think they overcommitted on money to Cousins even if it's only two years guaranteed. They could have pulled off the exact same plan, made the same pick, only opting for a cheaper option to be the starter for this year and (possibly) next. Guess we're all guessing until we see how it plays out.
Plays a “Taysom Hill-style Saints QB” role and gets to spend however many years not starting because Kirk Cousins is starting strengthening himself using the Falcons’ professional facilities. This will also push Kirk Cousins to play better based off knowing how he responded to getting franchised tagged all those times by the Washington National Football team (that’s a Joe House reference)
Bill loves that bob ross jacket
I think it's pretty dope
Heres the thing, this is undoubtedly the wrong decision made to sign Kirk then draft Penix. But the Falcons may have lucked themselves into making the right decision. Kirk is not guranteed to be good after that injury, and Penix has upside. But still to say youre going all in and have Kirk and have a top 10 pick where you can legit get the best defender in the draft or even add another weapon to the offense its hard to say they did the right thing
when cousins is either hurt or ineffective by week 6 all these media clowns will be eating their words.
I am liking me some Van Lathan. Smart fella.
They could've traded back with Minny and still taken Penix plus had another 1st rounder to draft defense. This was a bad pick given the value
Why would Minnesota trade to 8 when they got the qb the prefer further down the board at ten.
No they couldn’t of, other teams were trying to trade into the top 10 for penix
Michael Penix is a slight guy and how his body handled the Michigan game scared me. How’s he going to handle a pro season where he’s getting hit by bigger guys, faster guys throughout a 17-game season?
You said this feels like a team close to competing....then you said Cousins. Those cancel out. Cousins is a 12 year vet. With less than 3 playoff victories. He's a stopgap, not an answer. Contract size aside.
Seahawks once paid a QB a Ton of money and then drafted (and started!) a rookie QB too.
They won a SB w him. So it's not a bad move to get a better QB when your new high ticket QB is mid....big contract or no
Dude in the middle of the thumbnail looks like TSO Sage from Let’s Keep it a Buck.
Noted medical journal "rookie of the year"😂
Falcons being the falcons ⚜️⚜️
Thr mistake wasn't drafting Penix, it was signing cousins.
Vikings fan here falcons i hope you enjoy your first round playoff game. Dak and cousins are the same guy too
Dak is better than Cousins
@@Watchingvideoslikeu at running the ball and that’s about it…. Same dude
It’s a good pick two years of Kirk , or maybe one to optimize his trade value and u can recoup a 2nd rd pick since cousins is under contract. If they can solve their qb problem for Ten years it works if not then it’s a bad pick. Only time will tell.
I thought you had Penix on the show sitting in the chair for a second
7:32 that means Michael Penix is third or fourth string. Who is Falcons 2nd string QB if it’s not Michael Penix Jr.?
Who is Kirk Cousins or his agent to be disappointed? Kirk has been solely about his “bag” 💰 is not a proven winner, I like the pick.
Hopefully Atlanta does with Penix what the asshole Jets didn't do with Zach Wilson.
Be patient, let him sit and learn a couple of years behind an accomplished veteran and then come in when ready.
Rogers' injury forced Wilson in prematurely, but another year of Wilson sitting behind Rogers would have helped enormously.
At least Atlanta can afford to patient with Penix.
The remarkably disfunctional Jets organization Jet-tisoned Wilson who, if given the opportunity, will ball out under Sean Payton in Denver
Good job Penix on your body being functional and working. Lol
This the saints favorite pick of the draft.
Two things to keep in mind. First, Falcons are losing their 2025 first round pick because of the Kirk Cousin tampering (it hasn't been announced but that is what is happening). Second, KIrk is on a four year deal which would take him to the end of his high productive years. So, by taking Penix now the Falcons can have him develop behind Cousins for 3-4 seasons rather than just 1-2 with hypothetically a late round QB prospect. I would call it smart if hadn't been for the fact they put themselves in this position so I will just say its good.
I agree with some of what you are saying and would agree more if this was a late 1st round pick like Rodgers with Favre and Love with Rodgers. But this was the 8th pick of the draft with Odunze and Turner on the board. Also, in 3 years Penix will be 27 going in 28 and nearing his 5th year option without ever playing? May work out down the road, but right now it is a mess.
What did they tamper with?
@@eincan1313 well, yeah, fundamentally I dont think anyone would have evaluated Penix as a top 10 let alone 1st round QB talent (I know I didn't), but the Viking did. So either they know something we don't or Penix just fits we are looking at a lot of unknown variables.
As for your second point, I don't necessarily consider it a mess, they didnt need another X WR and London & Odunze wouldn't be happy being the Z (and we all know how fun a disgruntled WR can be). Turner likely would have be best for most people, but they still have the 43rd pick with Kneeland, Brasswell, Adisa, Austin Booker, Elliss, Trice, Newton, Fiske, Jenkins, Maason Smith and any LB of their pick still on the board
As for Cousins, the 100m guaranteed for a older QB coming off a torn Achilles kind of makes sense now. That was STFU money, so when they did this and he was pissed they could tell him to STFU and cry into a pile of money they gave him lmao
@@fortynights1513 Google ; Vikings, Kirk Cousin, Tampering Case
Kirk cousins has had a better career than Gardner Minshew but I hate all of the diss on Gardner. I've always thought that given the starting job Gardner minshew could be a playoff quarterback. He's not especially gifted but he's solid and doesn't make horrible mistakes most of the time. If there wouldn't have been one dropped pass he would have taken that cold steam to the playoffs last year. If he actually gets the starting job this year I'm willing to bet that he is a top 10 quarterback. Top 12 at worst.
I guess David Kahn is the GM of the Falcons now lol.
If he is the next cj stroud then what bill?...
I feel like everyone is making this out to be the worst pick ever but as Van said, it’s risky but there is some logic to it
The Falcons are a CLOWN SHOW!! If you liked Penix before the draft you knew he’d be there at 8. There’s NO REASON to pay Cousins $180M in FA…
Damm Cousin should stay in Minnesota. Cousins should went to Denver.
Peenix
People freaking out, idk why. jordan love took the packers to the playoffs. Cousins has never been as good as rodgers. Plus Cousins is coming off an Achilles tear at like 35 years old. I think it was a good pick, pennix can sit and learn from kirk for a year or two. We've seen it multiple times where a rookie qb gets thrust into the starting role day 1 and turn to busts halfway through the season. Pennix is in a good spot, falcons could make the playoffs in that division.
I dont care how much sports you talk about, write about....NFL IS A BUSINESS. Sorry John Madden RIP ❤
Problem is penix is the most game ready qb in the draft lol so stupid
bad allocation of resources. Two QBs when only one can play bad move.
Terrible pick for 4 reasons: he's terrible, better players available there, Cousins, and they could've traded back and still got their man. TERRIBLE.
He’s terrible ??? That’s crazy assessment to have and he hasn’t even stepped on the field lol
You could say his skillset wouldn’t translate as well to the pros as some, but I would say Penix was a good college quarterback.
It will be funny when Penix fails to ever have a 10-7 season in his entire career. 😂😂
That’s how you pronounce his name? I don’t watch college football and assumed it was pronounced peenicks.
This is equivalent to hoarding QBs in Fantasy
Atlanta loves a winner… no wonder they’re so sad
These fools talking like cousins is 30 years old. HE'S 36!!! All but a few qbs have fallen off at or before 38 years old. Falcons are tired of journeyman qbs.
The visual presentation might look a lot better if the cameras were placed higher and angled downwards onto Bill and the guest
Cousins is mid, penix will be a star
Falcons fans trying to justify the pick is just sad. Your front office set you back. You should be raging. 😡
It's pronounced PEENIX please be respectful
Sorry but that OL, Pitts, London, Bijan, Mike is the perfect fit to build around long term.
Lol. He left a better situation to go atl. Good riddance
So you have access to solak, Russilo, etc….but you think we want to talk nfl with the tmz race baiting guy… coooooool!
Cousins is old and coming off a major injury. Why wouldn't the Falcons draft a QB?
Penix is clearly the best pro-ready QB in the draft. Cousins is NOT elite. I think that the Falcons were probably shocked that he was still on the board when their pick came up. QB is the most important position in sports. How do you pass that up?
Cousins was elite (a top 5 QB last year)
Achilles might make him regress
Dude had 4 season ending injuries in college. That’s crazy 🤣 Shoulders and ACLs . That medical history is straight sin. His body will get you fired. RG3 2.0
dude is literally an entire college career older than JJ mccarthy and drake maye. He’s the same age as guys who have already signed 2nd contracts
You pass it up when you sign a qb to a massive contract. It’s just a bad team building move
@cam8868 who the hell spends 100 mill on a bridge qb?
Penix was TERRIBLE in the national championship game.
It shows Terry Fontenot doesn't know what he's doing. Let's be real, He's a DEI Hire
So the dozens of terrible white GMs in sports means..... 🤡
Van Latan is the most annoying full of himself guest….. clicked away because of him
Black GM + black coach drafted a black QB? I wonder why?
What nobody is saying os Penix has horrible knees and now going to play on turf which is terrible on knees.🤔🤔
Shouldnt have signed KC if you were getting Penix. Waste of assetts especially if Penix is yhe starter and now you have a $100 million backup. Either way it doesnt make sense
I personally don’t believe Cousin will be ready at the start of the season. Maybe the team found out after paying him imo
@@Taxthechurch then they should be fired for giving a guy 100 million who is still injured
