Around 1.30, I think John was making some good points. If the taxes raised from rental landlords was used to support first time buyers was interesting. He wasn't saying to drop the taxes. Also, when they talked about average prices, and Oli acknowledged that there is a national average, and a London average. But he didn't acknowledge that when you take London out of the equation, the national average is lower. Just as it is when you consider the national pay average, but when you remove London pay, the average drops significantly.
The bloke at 38 minutes Charlie isn’t living in the real world I’m the same age and he’s been lucky I wonder what pay he’s on Loss of motivation? We work just as hard as any generation but the pay hasn’t risen I’m happy he got a house but he’s lucky he could do that I couldn’t disagree with him more
@@mattsawyer343 It reminds me of those 'feel good' news articles of "X Aged young person affords house" that I see on social media. But I think a satirical twitter account goes into the article to highlight phrases such as 'got the deposit from Mum and Dad/ inheritance' or 'saved by living with mum and dad' so takes away from the pure bootstrap/ grind set that its trying to promote. Trying not to shade Charlie too much but living with parents back-to-back (his own, then partners) plus working for the same company as his mum.. you can read between the lines that it is an easier path than uni degree, shitty junior grad job/ corporate job to then climb the ladder to hopefully >£80k after 10 years. If I were more cynical I'd argue nepotism on Charlie's part too for his job but in this day and age, nepotism is just another form of networking..
Gotta say, so far Oli is frustrating me as much as the callers here... He nods along far too much, lets them spew nonsense for far too long and offers very little pushback.
That said, he offers enough to expose how daft the callers’ views are. That’s the point really, most of these people won’t ever fell embarrassed by the things they say here so the measure is how we end up feeling about the caller’s argument at the end of the conversation. If they have less credibility at the end, the job is done I’d say.

Yes! He represents a small ever diminishing number of people. He is speaking from privilege without realising it. He & his parents benefited from free & functioning healthcare, education, housing etc. with a relative income almost 3x higher than today. He had a stable home/upbringing & free accomodation, his mother got him employed (and promoted) within her industry. He is very lucky, nothing to do with working harder than today's potential housebuyers. It's a Tory pushed narrative that most sensible people see straight through.
