I started out using a/b/a&b box to turn solo each if wanted. Also have a looper to use every now and then if want to solo over bass. So far it is working way better than expected. Recently switched everything to the boss es-8 switcher. Figured out how to program the solo instruments with it not using a/b box. Also set up momentary solo buttons.

I frequently use OC-3 in poly mode, the third pot set right in the middle (twelve). In this way it uses only sounds beneath the G string for the octave down and I can play both bass lines and chords at the same time. Alternatively I use the Roland GR55 or Boss GP-10, both of which give even more control over which strings should pick the bass sound and which not.

camp0017 I too use an 0-c3. It’s been cool so far on my split signal jack white approach. Using the 3rd knob works but higher notes are quieter which is a major disadvantage. Blaring bass notes when chords are played on lower notes happens to me too, so i will be adding a compressor & EQ like this guy has so I can crank up the octave range & but still enjoy nice chords. Still, you get impressive results from the Oc3 alone. Good luck

I do the same thing with a Boss GE7 and an octave pedal…but haven’t tried a compressor on the bass signal chain. Might try that. My struggle is trying to add some gnarly fuzz to the bass amp as well. Anytime I try to throw a fuzz or rat or something at the bass amp, it just doesn’t have any definition or bass crunch. Basically just gets louder. Even a little muddier you could say. Maybe I need a higher wattage bass amp to pull that off. Any thoughts are appreciated brother.

the guitars "signal" has two methods of representation, the time domain and the frequency domain. you can think of the frequency domain as a measure of how loud eat "pitch" or frequency is. the Equalizer takes areas of that and raises the volume on it. In this video he is removing the upper frequencies by essentially making them extremely quit, 15db down. Note that dB is logarithmic, so this is a much more significant "scoop" than what it may seem.
In short it is not "removing" them technically, just making it quieter. But the effect is that they are essentially gone altogether.

Would this setup work with a distorted guitar and some (power)chords?

It works great for me! I play heavy stuff... it's an amazing deal. I found using a bass EQ pedal works even a little better... leave the 50h and 125h around flat... I boost the 50 just slightly and the 125h flat. If you have an octave pedal that has a dry mix it will help to dial that in a little too with power chords. Warning is that after you play with that range and mix it really well it's going to be hard to going back to just a guitar sound.

Hey man - so sorry for the delay here. Yes absolutely - just make sure you throw your effects after the signal switches. I have updated this pedal board considerably. After the split, I have bass and guitar effects for the respective channels.

I'm currently working on a similar setup because I play in a 2 piece black metal band. I'm still missing the EQ and the Compressor, but I hooked up what I have so far, and it sounded pretty good! I'm anxious to get these last two pedals to make it sound better.

Frankie, I'm attempting to start a doom/sludge duo with just me and my drummer. I often use my baritone guitar (Chapman ml1 Modern Baritone) and am regularly tuned to Drop A and even Drop F; have you had any experience with this low of tuning using the setup you mention? I'd like to know before I spend the money on the bass amp and pedals. Thanks!

  • @echokammersurvivor2210

Very nice video and demo, but I have to admit that the POG is way too overpriced for this operation. A basic Octaver like the Boss or similar can do the Job, but u have the versatility with the pog if you need to use octave up for playing guitarparts with a bass (royal blood). I will try my bass octave deluxe from mxr if it will track with my guitar signal right.

31 bass players dislike this video. :D
btw. if you're on budget boss super octave oc-3 will do the trick by picking up the bass sounds in poly mode, you just need to dial in the range where the pick will cut out.

I tried the Micro Pog, it has a cool sound, but a huge delay for tracking the part. I found it unusable and returned. Are there any better solutions out there and how do you manage that for your sound? I noticed there was a delay for you too, maybe you dont mind

Hendrix used his thumb like that to play chords. You can't really play barre chords when the guitar hangs that low.
