Guitar and Bass Together - One Player
zhlédnutí 96KPřed 8 lety
How to run your guitar and your bass amp in parallel. This trick allows any guitarist to make it sound like you are also playing the bass underneath.
Thanks for this mate, been looking for a good video that explains and demonstrates this well. Kudos!
Look, I know us bass players are always stealing your chicks because we lay down the funk and have HUGE packages but we generally love playing music with you and will be glad to do it if you would just ask nicely. No need for all of this fuss.....
Lol - you still can never replace a phenomenal bass player 🙌🏻
Where does the sound stop on the A string with the filter ? Because 100hz is around the F on 8th fret or the maybe the G on the 9th ?
Basically doing what the EXH Bass 9 does, but with pedals a lot of folks already have laying around. Honestly sounds even better if you ask me. Amazing execution, man!
Would it be possible to play power chords with the BASS9 like with the setup in this video?
@@marcusskjelseth3965 I think so. I'm assuming the Bass9 does something internally that's similar to this, cause it has a mode where you can make it only affect the lower strings, and it sounds like it tracks pretty good, no matter what you play
I have a similar set up but for my bass signal chain I go from my aby pedal to a electro harmonics Bass 9 pedal which does what all 3 of your pedals do into 1 pedal
two boss super octave pedals do this same job
You save my life! Thank you <3
You’re very welcome!
Very old topic, but if somebody is looking for a similar solution, OPFXS Dig Deep can do this job very well.
BRILLIANT!!!!!
Thank you!
@@aquaholik6789 I’m 65 years old. Retired. Started learning guitar in garage and this “sound” you ingeniously created is something I want to duplicate (with smaller amps). You are a damn genius!

NEVER!!! It’s never how good you are! It’s genuinely the joy you extract from the process! It’s my Medicare medication of choice! 😅
My guys doing a local h
I'm playing using this method, but I get a big hum on both amps... any tips? I know it's probably something about grounding, but I don't know what to do though (I have tried using both inputs on my Fender Deluxe reverb but then the bass can drown out the treble signal, so it's not ideal...)
Hey! Most likely a grounding issue for sure or a cable that is giving you issues
@@aquaholik6789 Thanks! Noob question but how do I ground it? Yeah I guess I can try to go cable by cable to weed out any troublemakers
a really good example of this in actual live playing is Royal Blood they are a two piece a bassist/singer and a drummer the bassist has 2 guitar amps and a bass amp along with 3 harmonists 2 pog 2's and some fuzz but this isnt all he is very secretive about his $120000 rig the setup i have for bass to get his sound i have a digitech whammy an EHX big muff tone wicker fuzz a boss sd-1 super overdrive canyon delay switchblade+ joyo powertune for pedals and a fender mustang 3 guitar amp and a peavey amp i forgot the name for the bass amp it sounds very good and the total cost including my squier vibe 60s jazz bass is $1780
thanks for this bro, j got myself a comp and eq
Dope
Hey, Evan. Amazing vid. I just did not understand one thing. When you talk about the EQ, which one are you referring to? It's at 4:16. Thank you!
Does distortion mess up the eq at all? Trynna run this w a bass big muff and fairly heavy guitar tone
I would like to see how it sounds when playing Metal
Do you have a video update with similar set up? Or something you can do a portable set up with ipad iphone? A video similar set up while playing drums or cajon?
I don’t - need to make one soon!
they now have a pickup now that only gets your bottom two strings and requires no routing and a separate output. It's called the submarine and I feel you'd get a way better bass tone if you didn't have to use the EQ like that. The Local H guy has been modding all his guitars with a 2 string bass pickup but this makes it way easier to do without ripping open your guitar.
I tried the Micro Pog, it has a cool sound, but a huge delay for tracking the part. I found it unusable and returned. Are there any better solutions out there and how do you manage that for your sound? I noticed there was a delay for you too, maybe you dont mind
I’m doing the guitar/bass thing in my band. New to us but working great. Interestingly my setup ended up almost exactly the same. Did not do the eq though so will grab one give it a go. I started out using a/b/a&b box to turn solo each if wanted. Also have a looper to use every now and then if want to solo over bass. So far it is working way better than expected. Recently switched everything to the boss es-8 switcher. Figured out how to program the solo instruments with it not using a/b box. Also set up momentary solo buttons.
See I had it in my head and knew this is what I was gonna do I just needed to see it. Just picked up a 9-string and just spent a year programing drums for my solo-gig. Wiring something just like this but mostly cheaper. Thanks!
Rad! Convinced me with the EQ pedal!!
I’m just going with a mxr bass octaver and equalizer
So is there a way I could play power chords over an A note cause if you set the equalizer to allow notes over an A than it would pick up the high notes in a low power chord.
Which pedals are the ones I’d need to achieve this? I see you have your whole pedalboard but are all of them necessary for achieving this? Please let me know, trying to figure this out asap
To get a clean tone yes. Played around with it for many years and that is the best way that I found to make it happen
That was so cool!
Thanks so much!!
Is it possible to loop though? How can you loop the bassline into the bass amp at the same time the guitar loops into the amp?
Exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’ve started a 3 piece band electronic/guitar vibe but we don’t have a dedicated bass player. We can create synthbass loops on an MPC or DAW but I’ve been leaning towards developing a hybrid approach on my guitar, looking at maybe the boss oc 5. I have a line 6 hx effects, which does a split chain but I’m finding it tricky to get the bass sound audible and smooth with separation between the two elements. It sounds like the compressor and eq are key to it. I’m gonna try this out thanks
Grip it and rip it, it definitely works
So simple and clever!!
Thanks so much!
I have a similar setup - but for heavy alt/punk/riff rock stuff. Think cleopatrick and Royal blood. I use a Vox AC15 and a Fender Rumble 40. I do the same thing with a Boss GE7 and an octave pedal…but haven’t tried a compressor on the bass signal chain. Might try that. My struggle is trying to add some gnarly fuzz to the bass amp as well. Anytime I try to throw a fuzz or rat or something at the bass amp, it just doesn’t have any definition or bass crunch. Basically just gets louder. Even a little muddier you could say. Maybe I need a higher wattage bass amp to pull that off. Any thoughts are appreciated brother.
hey dude, i’ve got a similar rig. guitar amp is a 100watt fender champion 100xl paired with a fender rumble 100. i’d try putting the boost/crunch before the switchblade to get an equal boost from both channels.
Vgood
Thanks so much!!
Y so under ratted
Appreciate it that!
What about power chords with distortion on low strings? Does the bass get messy? if you haven't tested this, do a video please
Just dial up or dial down the compression. The more compression you use, it will just hit the lower strings and prevent it from getting muddy
This is brilliant. I’m tempted to spring for these exact pedals, so I can do the same thing!
Do it brother!
Hey Evan Great video, I'm doing the opposite phantom guitar! Stop by and check it out
Very Cool, I play Bass and Guitar together on my channel, it's exactly opposite of what you are doing!
just wondering if i should take the Boss GE-7 Equalizer OR the Boss GEB-7 Bass Equalizer for a similiar project of mine, where i wanna turn my guitar into a bass at the same time. can't buy both. luke gruntz from cleopatrick does the same thing and he uses the GEB-7 Bass Equalizer for guitar. so any suggestions which one could or would be better for that? thank you so much!

@@aquaholik6789 Welcome😇
Good tip on the EQ... Wondering if swapping out the POG for an OC-5 would be even more realistic without the synth... 🤔
Haven’t messed with it, but might work!
I had an OC3 and preferred the EHX POG and Pitchfork. Maybe the OC5 works better.
OC-5 works awesome once dialed in. Running guitar into Ampeg VT40 and OC5 wet into Ampeg B115. MASSIVE. The key is not the tech trick, it’s learning a new style of playing that is key. 🤘🏻
Very informative, thanks. Thinking about running something like this for a keyboard setup.
You could definitely do it!
I really love this. I so deep and speaks a lot about lost love. It's love it, especially from the middle till the end!😍🤗❤

You should do a part 2, Evan. After these years, sure people will dig with a new video about this setup, maybe playing a little heavy, power chords and etc, showing all this pontential. Great vid!
I can definitely do that!
@@aquaholik6789 please make an updated video. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for for years and just now stumbled on to this video. This is incredible timing as our bass player just left the band and I still need to find a solution to make the bass come through on our sets!!
