AWESOME, I read somewhere a long time ago that this is how he got the bass sound, but it's cool to see a video of him actually talking about it. Definitely want to do this to a guitar some day.
I feel like premier guitar owes Scott a rig run down; I feel like it's long over due. I've see local h a ton of times, I love the small shows in the Chicagoland area they do, I feel lucky to experience them.
That’s the best sounding guitar / bass I’ve ever heard. I saw them open for someone and then saw them twice in Nashville . That guitar / bass setup sounds like The Doors in a strange way. Well because Ray M. Used his left hand for bass on keyboards. And his right for the rest.
we finally have an interview of Scott showing us his whole guitar rig set up. and this is the setup that inspired Ganto Barn to keep trucken along as a 2 piece after so many members came and went so often over the years.we have a simplified more analog way of doing this, but its relatively the same.I use ALL separate pedals and amorely a/b switch to turn on and off the bass side, and I didn't do the whole install a P-bass pickup due to high costs, and wanting to be able to use any guitar available
How tf these guys aren’t bigger than they are just boggles the mind. That’s the coolest thing I have ever seen, I thought he just over dubbed like mad and hired a bass player on the road, which is totally ok. I’m sure the albums do have dubbing. Local H and Bigwreck are 2 of my top 10 bands but here in NC they haven’t been played on the radio since the 90s, probably both the same year
His setup is so killer and they sound huge live. Much heavier than most heavy 3-4-5 piece bands. It probably also helps to have someone who hits the drums so hard, but you can't set that up... You have to be born with that and a special dash of FnA. The H rocks.
@Chris Rains please reply. Do you know what guitar he has in the beginning where he is showing his pedals and stuff. I've seen the guitar years, but could never see what it was. If you know. Please reply
I wonder what he does with the pickup switch and the pots. I guess it's one volume each and a tone...? But does he uses the tone on which? I feel like the strat switch isn't connected on anything but might i be wrong?
Its great how people look at a band and say they dont have this or they dont use this and make the assumption that this means the band is worse off rather than listening because this way here we can enjoy the work of an great band without over crouding.
I guess they just can't afford a bassist. btw I thinks it's pretty cool how people will mod their guitars to get a unique sound it a way it makes the guitar personal.
no, Scott is a genius and doesn't want sub par bass playing, when he is a master. I'm sure he's been trying to figure out how to simultaneously play drums.
Implying this is better than even a sub par bassist. A master flamenco player could probably get something interesting out of this setup but anyone using a guitar plectrum is doing it wrong. Also, can't be too much of a genius if he can't figure out how a MIDI drum pad with a looper function works. Not to mention this exact same set up could be achieved with a Piezo bridge and a MIDI board/output. Just a lazy/dumb way of doing it.
CFA listen dude, I'm not a proctologist, so I don't understand shit you just said, *but*, of this I am sure, Scott Lucas is a genius. I've seen him five times. And I'm sure he knows how to use whatever drum thingy you just spoke of; I was half kidding when I wrote that.
CFA there are two members of the band one is the guitarist and the other is the drummer. basically he doesn't need a drum machine because he already has a drummer.
Majesticpigeon music MXR Digital Delay, My JOYO Digital Delay does the same thing when you toggle the the "Time" and "Level" knobs to the max then just turn the "Reverb" knob Clockwise until it gives off some feedback and then toggle the "Repeat" knob Counter Clockwise and then Clockwise again. You're Welcome.
There's another way to do it, not saying it's any better or worse but it involves using EQ, Compressor, Octave pedals in a certain way but it's rad as fk!
Nowadays you can just use a Boss OC-3 Super Octave which has a separate output to send the effected octave signal to a bass amp. No need for another pickup.
Definitely not a 2 piece when I listen to the album!!! there's at least 4-6 guitar tracks, and a real bass recorded. thats why when u see them live, it doesn't sound like the album.
dude to wrong today guitar pedals make your guitar sound like a bass I even wrote a new primus song on guitar with bass and leads sounds like primus wrote it your thing is like old movies I only take us dollars get with the times mate every thing you do here is pointless today
U didn't write a new primus song, u probably wrote something that vaguely emulated les Claypool, this dude Is a giga-brain gearhead, like he figured out a way to play bass and guitar through a single instrument at the same time in 1991, before things like the A Little Thunder pickup existed, show some respect man.
Rick Forsight have you been to a show? Have you even heard their music beyond the “couple” of cool songs? Plenty of solos, live shows are pile-driving, and the crowd is always fucking hyped. I’ve been to 10 of their shows since 12 Angry Months. Never gets old.
Yeah seriously their albums are amazing but there is just no experience that tops a Local H concert. I've converted so many people into lifelong fans over the years by taking them to a show. It's never repetitive. That's why so many fans will drive (and even fly) so far to experience as many shows as possible.
Could you imagine if fender gave Scott a signature with everything he uses? Only in a perfect world...
Fender? Mm.
Supposedly he made a bunch of this guitars. Like tons. My dad met the guys on several occasions. I want to reach out to him to buy one of his
@@TimothyLafreniere he has a strat now instead of the Inbanez
@@alexcorona I loved his "F the DJ" Ibanez Tele
I hate that these guys are so undervalued! They're so fucking awesome.
agree
Jeff Panetta you can bet your ass, my kids are hearing ALL the best that their era had to offer.
Jeff Panetta the best I'm from oklahoma love this band

Less band members = less bullshit + more cash, yeah.

All 20 of us who have liked this comment are totally working musicians
As a new fan, I am so excited to have found Scott Lucas ! I must have been living under a rock? This is amazing how he plays guitar. Brilliant!
AWESOME BRO FOR TAKING THE TIME TO SHOW AND EXPLAIN MANY CELEBRITIES COULD GIVE A FUCK...." BORN TO BE DOWN"...THANKS BRO
Anyone notice at 0:10... that’s Cobain at Reading Festival 1992 !!!! LOL IRONIC!
He's a genius when it comes to his playing style!!!
"All the kids are right"
AWESOME, I read somewhere a long time ago that this is how he got the bass sound, but it's cool to see a video of him actually talking about it. Definitely want to do this to a guitar some day.
Scott your a genius. Thanks for keeping rock n roll alive. I met you 20 years ago. At the Exit Inn. Extremely cool. Gave me a pick.
I feel like premier guitar owes Scott a rig run down; I feel like it's long over due. I've see local h a ton of times, I love the small shows in the Chicagoland area they do, I feel lucky to experience them.
It's an Ibanez "lawsuit" Tele with a strat neck.
I've always wondered how he did this. Very ingenious! And not too bad lookin' for being in his mid-40's. You rock, Scott! ;)
That’s the best sounding guitar / bass I’ve ever heard. I saw them open for someone and then saw them twice in Nashville . That guitar / bass setup sounds like The Doors in a strange way. Well because Ray M. Used his left hand for bass on keyboards. And his right for the rest.

Finnally. I've always wanted to know, and now I do. Thanks for posting!!
I've been curious about this since the 90's thanks!!!!
That is so cool. Awesome band.
always wondered how he did it
Local H came way the F before the White Stripes lol
fuck the white stripes.
Pj And The Gang Podcast you are so right
WTF do TWS have to do with anything?!
30 FUKN YEARS. HOW MANY FOR TWS ?
@Fintan lol no they didn't.
My fav band
thank you for sharing.
OMG Insane setup!!!
needs a premier guitar rig rundown
That's "Cold Manor" from their most recent album "Hallelujah! I"m a bum"
Thank you!!

Fucking genius. And he writes such great songs. I hope im half as badass of a musician as this gentleman one day.
I had a Boss GT-6 until recently. Shit was tight. Miss it already.
Scott should have his own custom line of guitar with that setup only cleaner looking :)
Innovative and impressive
Scott Lucas Genius... setup. unique too
@Chris Rains please reply. Do you know what guitar he has in the beginning where he is showing his pedals and stuff. I've seen the guitar years, but could never see what it was. If you know. Please reply
That Is so bad ass.
This is the first I've heard of something like this: Is Scott Lucas a legend?
Khalil Mason
No
SURE IS.
criminally underrated band
Why doesn’t this man have his own signature series?
I wonder what he does with the pickup switch and the pots. I guess it's one volume each and a tone...? But does he uses the tone on which? I feel like the strat switch isn't connected on anything but might i be wrong?
It's something they put together for the video for "Cold Manor"
saw them at the world theater in tinley always wondered who was laying bass lol i get my answer 34 yrs later
Badass
o captador mirando as cordas graves foi boa sacada
what's the song at the end?
I need the Carbon copy
What song is the riff from at 1:54?
I want to give you my guitar so you can make it like yours. We met in NC, you signed my diary.
You ppl just don't know...
You could say that they... just don't get it.
THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST RETARDED. DO WE REALLY WANT THEM AT OUR SHOWS?
Its great how people look at a band and say they dont have this or they dont use this and make the assumption that this means the band is worse off rather than listening because this way here we can enjoy the work of an great band without over crouding.
See ya Oct 6 2018
Ah!
That's a fucking AWESOME Drive Like Jehu sticker on his amp!!
l have the same shoes
;-)
He always wears those kind of shoes. It's kind of a running gag. Or just the kind of shoes he really likes.
what pedal was at 2:37?
Late to this comment but I believe it's an MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay pedal.
I guess they just can't afford a bassist. btw I thinks it's pretty cool how people will mod their guitars to get a unique sound it a way it makes the guitar personal.

Yeah, sorry, no.

Saw these dudes in my town like ten years ago. They rip but holy fuck is his guitar fucking loud.
Song at intro please?
Something from Hallelujah I'm A Bum. Just listen to the whole album, trust me on this.
Cold manor
You should have waited, they now make a guitar with the E and A string are bass strings with a bass pickup already built in.
+afterthefox7 whats it called?
He came up with it first though...
WHY THE FUCK SHOULD HE HAVE WAITED 30 YEARS FOR A PIECE OF SHIT LIKE THAT? YES, THE H HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR 30 FUKN YEARS.
Anyone know what these guitars are called?
What band is this?
Whats that pedal at 2:25
Its an mxr analog carbon copy

You're Welcome.
Never have to worry about a bad note being played..lol
Josh Martins that’s so true. I play a lot of there songs.
Scott's guitar is more interesting to look into than evh's frankenstrat tbh.
There's another way to do it, not saying it's any better or worse but it involves using EQ, Compressor, Octave pedals in a certain way but it's rad as fk!
Also, LOOOVE Local H!
where the hell do i get a guitar like that or who do i have to pay to customize one of my own?!
Custom job. His bud Toby from back in the day taught him how to use a router to cut in the bass pickup
They make a pickup that does this without the need to cut up your guitar. Look up A Little Thunder.
thx ill look it up
This is what happens when you bassist never shows up to practice.
Put the petal to the METAL
Nowadays you can just use a Boss OC-3 Super Octave which has a separate output to send the effected octave signal to a bass amp. No need for another pickup.
Actually no, it does. It has a threshold control and depending on where you set it it will pick up as many strings as you want.
lol "fuck the DJ" sticker
Local H is the best
Reminds me of The White Stripes.
followfornothing You do realize that Local H put out 3 records before the White Stripes were even a band right?
Kenneth Gottschlich Yeah, I do, but it was nothing more than *a comment* and I have already pre-ordered "Hey,Killer"
they remind you of *him* 😊
Aside from them being a two piece band, I don't really see any similarities.
Definitely not a 2 piece when I listen to the album!!! there's at least 4-6 guitar tracks, and a real bass recorded. thats why when u see them live, it doesn't sound like the album.
Petal ms
Local H, White Stripes and Royal Blood?
Bass players are a a dime a dozen , why not just hire a bass guitar player and avoid the red tape stress . 🤔🎸🎶🎵🎶🎵
Only THEIR music will sound good with THAT guitar.Useless for any other.

So in other words, no solos, shows get very repetitive, I'm surprised they are still playing live. They had a couple of cool songs
