    Tab Mini C is the latest product launched by Boox in their Tab line of devices that are marketed as Tablet PC devices. This is a successor to the Nova Air line of devices, and I am having trouble making sense of this device, and justifying the really high price tag. So let's check it out.

    To my particular use (as a portable planner/journal/sketch/read/comics/commonplace book), with the color non-eyeburning screen, I think this tablet/reader is a BLISS!!! Maybe I will never use a paper notebook again! Thanks for the AMAZING work, your reviews are THE BEST!!!

    Interesting that you complained about the weight and thickness. My Kindle Signature Edition is 8.1mm thick and thicker with the case on so on par with the Tab Mini C. Also the weight of the Kindle with the case on is 326g, 16g heavier than the Tab Mini C which is much easier to get out of its case than the Kindle. So from my point of view these two issues are not a con at all. My greatest concern is battery life but if I read for half an hour daily on my Kindle it runs down in 4 weeks, which is only 14 hours of battery plus what it loses in sleep mode (which isn’t much). So 10 hours isn’t too bad considering it is a larger and colourful screen and may be used longer each day because of its extra features. So it’s a balancing act really. Love your reviews though, one of the best on CZcams.

    If you could also provide a chart or comparison in terms of battery life to the other boox/ereaders it would help a lot. For example i was interested in understanding the battery life of the ultra c as compared to note air 2 plus (which i have so i have a sense of it) but the current numbers don't tell me much. Great content as always!

    I think it would be great if Boox let us switch BSR on and off. For reading an e-book or marking up PDF I don't really need the BSR, but for Android apps / browsing it's very useful. Maybe put a per-app option like the refresh quality? That said, I love my Note Air 2 and Android/security updates aside, I think Boox makes great devices.

    Can't disagree. I have this and the Tab X. I like the size, simple design and build quality, I don't like the price and the short battery life. Writing surface is fine for me. Case is good (for a change) and apart from the odd crash using Spotify or CZcams, it does everything I ask. I'd tell most people to get an Ultra, unless they needed the small size.

    ❤ Adore mine. Thank you so much for the initial impression video and it's depth or I'd not have found it / bought it. It's a perfect device for my (extremely niche) use case. Use it permanently in landscape mode in 2 page mode (same doc). This fixes most of the weight issue for me.

    I had Nova Air 2 and I upgraded to Tab mini c. I also have Tab ultra c. I keep Tab Mini C in my work bag always to read on my break. I really think it was worth it. I love the color screen and love how fast it is. I think the device is just incredible but I only use it when I am outside the house. It's too small to use it at home so I have Tab Ultra C for home:-)

    I could maybe see this for reading academic papers on the go (e.g. public transit). I really would want a 10" but my Note 3 isn't quite portable enough to comfortably bring with me in a purse so I usually leave it at home (though if I had deep enough pockets, perhaps I'd pick up a work version) and I definitely couldn't use it one handed, though this seems a stretch too, when approaching a stop. But I could see using this on the subway to read documents like that where colors matter in figures and you'd want to mark them up, but bringing a physical document is unweildy.

    I have a nova 2 which works just fine, but the newer boox devices have improved apps and functionality. I used to think I never would care about a color device, but some of my work related reading has illustrations that would be very nice to view in color and also would benefit from a larger screen. I am tempted by this new color screen. I also have a supernote which I generally like, but the poor internet/computer connectivity (for me-g mail and calendar just don't work) limits the supernote. I am torn about getting a smaller color reader or a larger boox color device-one device to rule them all!

    • @LouisGiliberto
      @LouisGiliberto Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'm in the same boat (Note Air 2 here). But for "smaller color device" I have a Galaxy Fold so getting another 7" android-tablet-like device would be excessive for me. The only justification I could make is that I like reading on eInk better than on LED.

  • @Jarrych83
    @Jarrych83 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I think the niche enough use is that there's very few great options for a platform agnostic ereader with color. Like, I know I'm going to be over buying, but I think the reason I'm getting this is because of the overall size and shape. My full intention is to dial in the basic apps I intend to use and pretty much only connect the wifi when i'm downloading, deleting, or acquiring content from amazon, kobo, the library, etc. I'm hoping it will hold up reasonably well overall, but I currently use ereaders mostly disconnected and intend to use this similarly. Based on those factors, I think this makes the most sense, even if the cost is a hair steep.

  • @Thuggle_Bus
    @Thuggle_Bus Před 12 dny

    Something to keep in mind, the ergonomics of this device are optimized for portability, which is what it was designed for. If you primarily use the device stationary at a desk, and the slight wobble becomes an actual issue, i would probably say you bought the wrong model. A larger device would probably suit you better at that point. I work in proximity marketing and am constantly rotating between my team members and doing training, and it's perfect for my purposes. I'm constantly taking notes walking around outside and this thing is an absolute dream come true. The weight has also never been an issue for me, and i literally carry this around for 8hrs a day, 5+ miles, along with a 3L camelback and a fanny pack full of stuff. For me, weight and sturdiness are a sign of durability and quality. I can't stand a device that i feel like i could break with a firm grip.

    Tab Ultra and Tab Mini C owner. I think with Doodroo screen protector it feels the same as when I had a Note Air 2 plus and am fine with it. I was willing to sacrifice the form factors, weight and camera bump for BSR. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to slower wink technology. Note Air 3 C has me very excited, because I loved how the note air 2 plus felt, but I’ll stick with this Tab Mini C and Ultra for now given the cost investment. They’re both meh as others put it.

    @David-sq1fy Před 7 měsíci +2

    Well, that's disappointing; I'm not sure what to do. I've been wanting to upgrade to a color e ink for a while, and I like eight inch screens, but if it's too heavy for reading then maybe it's still no good. It's difficult to find quality items. I really wish one of these companies would do what Kobo Forma did with the large toggle for page turning and the triangular bezel for easily holding the device for reading for a long period of time. It's hard to comfortably hold most of the current devices in one hand without your thumb touching the screen. Flat devices don't let you get much of a grip, and that tires out the fingers more quickly. Even the Sage has poor physical page turn buttons that sometimes don't register when pressed because there is too little key travel and it is less pleasant to hold because of the flat bezel, though the larger bezel for holding does make things easier. I keep going back to the Forma after buying various e-ink devices because it is more pleasant to hold, which seems more valuable than any of the other additions like Android and so on. Eventually the battery will fail, though, so there has to be something else out there. Boox devices are good because I can read both my Kindle and Kobo books on them, but they all seem to be designed for someone who wants to hold them in two hands. Maybe if there was a way to turn off touch sensitivity on the edge of the device so my thumb touching the screen wouldn't accidentally turn the page until I touched further in, that would help. The search continues.

    Dear Voja, just enquiring, does this Boox Tab Mini C or all of the Onyx Boox product have a built-in Microphone? If so, any possibilities you could do an in-depth review of why e-reader should have it? I am sick and tired of seeing most e-reader reviewers do the screen features of the product, to me, if they want to do that sort of reviews, give their comment to E-INK Company not to the e-readers producers. Looking forward for your in-depth comparison of Microphone features of e-readers producers such as Onyx Boox, Remarkable, Kindle, Kobo and other e-readers devices.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Před 8 měsíci

      Only Boox, out of the devices listes by you, have microphone, and since it is an Android, well, you can use it for most normal stuff you would use the microphone for. The exception are VOIP apps, and there, the results are mixed. Some users report being able to use the mic, other not.
      Generally speaking, this is an eReader and an eNotetaker device first and above all. Therefore, functionality that is pertinent for such devices will always have a stronger accent than additional elements, such as a microphone. Overwhelming majority of users simply don't care or don't even want their reader device to have a microphone, which I understand, as Google always listens, and that is a well documented privacy concern.
      As for your comment on the screen, well that's an invalid comment as there are a lot of differences between devices that use the same screen. From the refresh and ghosting software implementation, performance, clarity of image, as it depends on the surface on top of the screen and reflectivity aspect, to the front light, the quality and implementation of it.
      So yes, these being reader devices, the accent will naturally be on the screen and not on the microphone, same as I wouldn't place an accent on the display of a field recorder microphone, but rather it's primary function, the microphone :)

      Owwhhh now I realized why most e-reader only review on the screen functionality. Thank you for clarifying that to me he he. I also realized They also made their judgement on what’s the best e-reader available on the market nowadays based on an eReader functionalities despite the fact that, most eReader maker, I noticed trying to produced high quality stylus pen and high quality colored screen. Most eReader Reviewers make long and in-depth review on those stylus pen and of course the colored screen features. This makes me wonder why eReaders producers investing on those technology if its only for eReading he he. You also mentioned eNotetaking functionality in most eReaders devices. I wonder if this have to do with the existence of built-in Microphone? Why should some eReader devices have multi-lingual dictionaries pre-installed? Why should eReaders have the speech or voice to text transcription features? Isn’t it for the purpose of eNotetaking as you have mentioned and most eReader reviewers neglect to highlight in their In-depth comparisons I noticed ! I am currently in dilema on buying eReader now he he as my main reason of having it is for both eReading and eNotetaking purpose actually. When e-ink was introduced with the first Kindle - it was successful because of 2 factors: cheap and long battery life. If current e-Ink devices can't fulfilled these 2 criteria, then they have no selling point.

    I think few people actually care... Speaking of color, everyone is waiting for Tab X C. If they manage to pull it off and make it with same performance as Ultra C, but keep it's sleek and thin design as B&W Tab X, they might make something which might bring some emotions back in game... Besides this, even though they made superb devices in last years, all of them are kind of boring, bland, and never attract you to take them in hand and use them for sheer motiv of using them... You use them only when you have to and you don't really enjoy it. It's also not that you don't enjoy it. Just no emotions attached to it... Mega specs, functionality bomb... But complete business relationship, use when you have to, then leave it.... No love, no attraction... (P.s. regarding relationship with devices, being devices; is this actually what we should aim at?)

    Boox OS is the worst, most unrefined piece of software I've ever encountered. It's unintuitive, half-baked, and lacks polish. I strongly dislike that software. Avoid BOOX if you can.
