    Awesome review, Voja! A million thanks for the time and effort you spent on this video. It is my first e-ink tablet after thinking for many years of purchasing the version 1 Remarkable. I waited years because I thought it was a lot of money to spend on such a focused device. Lately however, I have was thinking that my efficiency and my follow up on ideas would be better if I had all my notes in one space. I decided it is the time. After a watching a handful of CZcams reviews, I purchased the A6X2 and I am extremely satisfied. I use it for note taking both for personal and work. Bottom line for me is, for those who like making notes and want to have improved organization, I highly recommend it. The e-book reader I think is good in my opinion but I still prefer paper books. Thank you again.

    I would like to discuss the differences between the white and crystal versions: Both devices are not suitable for frequent changing of the micro SD card. The white version also requires courage (!) and skill and tools (a thin plastic or wooden spade if you don't want bleeding fingernails). With the white version, it is very important that you first lever up all the plastic tabs on the narrow, lower side with the spatula - and then push the cover downwards (!) and do not try to tear up the plastic clips on the two long sides (with enough force they would break). The Crystal version can be opened completely without force, only the re-assembling (positioning the switch and magnets) requires skill and patience. I prefer the "force-free" version. - But now to the biggest disadvantage of the white version: because the back cover is only held in place by inserted clips, the case makes creaking noises when writing due to the pressure of the palm of your hand (no, these are not caused by the folded leather cover). Whereas we have a firm connection with the screwed Crystal version. Incidentally, the creaking noises can be minimised by sticking in 2-3 layers of small Post-It notes. - Thanks Voja for your incredibly careful and helpful work!

      Thank you for that bit, albeit very important, information. I am quite OC about things like that so i deeply appreciate your input. These are the small things people never report. I would not want something annoying like creaking noises with me for as long as i own something. It’s like a creaking springy bed. Thank you!!!!😊

    After watching, I was reminded of the tremendous benefits of incorporating the MDO into a note. However, I feel like the real time text conversion is an important benefit.
    Have you considered trying to quantify the impact of text recognition in a note of that size?
    I just picture the processor repeatedly going through a conversion process on a larger document like that might be a larger impact?
    Thanks for all the info and your epic efforts!

    Hey Voja, Great review for a truly awesome eink tablet :) I just wanted to mention that the SN calendar can sync with Google or Outlook calendars (text events only, not handwriting). You also have to sync it manually. Also, I was a little confused as to why Ratta chose to use undo/redo for the swipe up/down on the left bar because the bar is right next to the undo/redo buttons (for users that haven't moved the toolbar). Therefore its no easier (for me, anyway) to swipe up/down rather than just tap the button.

    I love your channel, it's been invaluable in educating me about all the options out there. In this case you were really selling me on this device right up until the calendar. Speaking as a dev, if this device already has the programming to authorize gMail integration there's no excuse for it not to have the same with the calendar. If this device didn't have any email integration at all I could see the lack of calendar integration as a "focus" choice, but to have one and not the other makes no sense to me. A real shame, I was digging this one.

    Hey, great video as always! I have one request that is often partly covered but I couldn't find a video that goes in depth: reading, editing and exporting PDFs. You covered here a big chunk of it on the A6X2. But do you think you could make a comparison video of how different devices deal with that? So basically zooming and scrolling, taking notes, if they are searchable on a computer, how the export to the computer works, if the links work on a computer... Could you also give an explanation or a guess what might be the reason that one needs to take the detour of making the PDF a template and why SN wouldn't just allow text recognition and links on a PDF? I am particularly interested in the devices SN A6X2 (/ A5X2), the Boox NA3 and the rM2, but the others are welcome too :) thank you!

I need to replace my Kobo Forma and I don't know if I should wait for the Sage 2E whenever it comes or go with the A6X2 now? Or is the A6X2 primarily for notetaking?

      Well, you will have a difficult time getting the best out of an e-ink device if you have a very heavy hand, as you will not be able to fully utilize the benefits and beauty of pressure sensitivity. My recommendation would be devices with a hard surface, such as with some form of either pre or post applied screen protector for protection of the screen. This means basically anything other than Supernote, Sony, Quaderno, or Mobiscribe devices should work fine. This also means that you should avoid using hard nibs, and unfortunately, that you will go through soft nibs a lot more quickly than if you would write with less pressure, meaning increased cost of usage over time.

    With that out of the way, at that point, I'm thinking this seems like the best more affordable writing-only e-paper device. And judging by your previous coverage of the supernotes, it seems like Ratta will take care of their customers at least with software updates.
    Regarding the non crystal version, maybe we can hope or push Ratta to sell an alternative cover that has a x-ray view back cover to mimic having a crystal case version.
    now back to the video!
    Edit: from the early explanation on the side sensors, I like the part where you said if you swipe up or down the left bar, you can quickly flip through a book / document like how you would thumb flip a real book.
    Edit 2: I'm convinced with the A6X2. I've always been looking into a e-notepad but like I've always wanted it a bit more like how onyx does it. but maybe, it is best that an e-notepad remains focused on writing and reading books. probably would be nice to have the choice to sideload some FOSS apps I've seen developed for e-paper devices though.

    Thank you for the detailed video. I just wanted to mention that the tilt functionality is not related at all to the contact point. In these technologies the surface does not have the capability to detect contact. It is the pressure sensors on the pen that do that. The surface is active in the sense that it creates the field that the position calculation of the pen is based on. The tilt also is a function of the EM field and not a physical contact patch. You can simply reason about this yourself by noticing the spherical structure of the nib. Changing angle would not change anything. (Besides it would be really hard to make it work with non uniform nib shapes)
    Edit: Removed the error in the comment which said the position and tilt calculations are done on the pen. According to the links in the thread below, for Wacom EMR they are done on the tablet side.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Před 5 měsíci +2

      This may be true for other devices, but on these devices this is not correct. The easy way to disprove what you are saying is to take any EMR pen (none of which are equipped with an accelerometer) and use it on a device that does have software support for tilt recognition, like the Remarkable 2 or certain Boox devices with specific OS versions. You'll easily see that any EMR pen will actually work in the exact same way. So it's the device that does the tilt conversion and it has absolutely nothing to do with the pen being used.
      Another way to disprove what you are saying is to simply hover an EMR pen above the surface of the screen without making contact. Without the pressure sensitivity being engaged in any way on the pen, the device is able to track the position of the pen due to the Wacom layer underneath the device's screen detecting the presence of the pen via its EM field. This is something that certain devices use to have the pen double as a presentation marker as well, for example Remarkable 2 and Supernote devices.
      Here is how Wacom themselves describe their EMR technology:
      "Wacom’s patented electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology consists of a layer of sensors that sits behind the device’s Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen and a layer of hardened glass. The sensors are arranged in an alternating vertical/horizontal grid pattern. Each sensor is precisely calibrated and emits a weak electromagnetic signal. Together, these signals create a magnetic field that extends about 5mm beyond the glass surface of the device."
      You can find more information here:
      www.wacom.com/en-au/events/sitecore/content/www/home/enterprise/business-solutions/resources-and-information/emr-benefits
      This is also why it is a bad idea to leave an EMR pen resting on the screen of a device like this, as that can easily drain the battery, even if the device is sleeping, simply because the device will be registering the pen and remain in an "active" state powering the pen, thus using the battery a lot more.

    • @JnAPhotography
      @JnAPhotography Před 5 měsíci

      @@MyDeepGuide To clarify, what I tried to emphasize was that there is no pressure sensing capability on the tablet itself. IIRC the note on the video that I wanted to correct was that tilt is done by measuring the shape of the contact patch. That is not possible without different sensors (like resistive screens of the past) on the screen. Detection of the contact and pressure is done on the pen via physical measurement of the pressure. In passive pen technologies like this one, the power that drives this circuit in the pen also comes from the EMF on the tablet.
      I admit that my comment was wrong about where the position calculation is done. And that extends to the detection of the tilt. But the intention and main idea behind the comment stays the same.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Ok, I'll let the experts explain my point in a better way, so that you and others can understand how this technology actually works:
      "EMR technology is also capable of detecting the tilt of the pen. Tilt information is derived by assessing the geometry of the EMR signal across multiple grid lines.
      When the pen is held upright, the signal geometry appears round, but when it is tilted, the geometry transforms into an ellipse, allowing the device to detect and interpret the tilt angle."
      So as I mentioned in the video, the device detects the tilt of the pen by measuring the area of the signal it receives back from the pen. This is not a guess, an opinion, or anything like that. This is a fact on how this technology actually works.
      You can find a lot more information here, and I recommend reading it, because it should clarify any uncertainties you or others may have about the intricacies of the EMR technology:
      borednbookless.com/how-do-emr-pens-work-emr-technology/

    • @JnAPhotography
      @JnAPhotography Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@MyDeepGuide I do understand how it works and my main point in the comment was: It is not via 'physical contact' on the screen, or the shape of the 'contact patch'. It's via measurement of EM patterns. (I will update the comment removing the erroneous part which was not relevant to the main point.).
