- After significant time using the Supernote A6X2 Nomad, it's finally time for me to share a full review. I've used this device exclusively for the last six+ weeks and in this video we'll discuss what It's like to live with this device and my opinions on it now that the honeymoon period is over. Stick around to the end of the video to see if it can dethrone the reMarkable 2 as my daily driver device.

pinenote?
Thank you. What pen are you sharing here?
I require a text to speech reader, does Supernote support this feature? It looks amazing overall
How to buy
So does this mean that any android app can be installed? I plan to install Syncthing, and use this app to keep any notes I take in sync with my main computer. Would that work?
I love it when a ' left handed person reviews a product, or a left handed person shows how they draw - depending on the stats and the country we are less than 20 percent of any population (writing wise).
THIS!! i love it when products are showcased by left handed people/ are made with them in mind.. sometimes were a but forgotten :,)
Fascinating.....zzzzzz
I'm technically right-handed, but I thought lefties were cooler, so I trained myself to do most things with my left hand back in 8th grade. I refused to write with my right hand for a long time. Now, I use whichever hand is more convenient for the moment, and I often end up writing with my left hand on my ReMarkable because I'm sitting at my desk and the mouse and keyboard make it less convenient to write with my right hand. I'm also a high school teacher, and sometimes it works better to use my right hand when writing on the smart board, and other times it's better to use my left. So, basically, because child me thought lefties were so cool, I inadvertently developed a useful life skill 😂
Edited to fix a typo
@@LWeOAreVOneE You built a lot of helpful neurons in your brain by doing that !!! I do somethings left, and some things right. I 'taught' myself to use a mouse for my computer using left and right hands (not at the same time that would look dumb) and would flip which hand I was using every half a year. You can do basically the same thing use one hand at one work and another hand at home. At work when training people, or helping them, I would often sit to their side at their desk and would have to grab the mouses to show them how to do stuff, being able to control the mouse efficiently was a helpful bonus (I don't think my customer's took notice of that little skill, but it helped me a lot - and saved frustration on all our parts.)
@LWeOAreVOneE It's the same with musical instruments. With the piano, I can detach my left hand completely. Meaning, it can independently keep time, even in a different signature. When I play guitar, my left hand performs the most complex movements I can make. Outside of that, it's worthless. It can't hit very well, a hammer is useless, and forget throwing anything with it, unless I want to look like Smalls from sandlot.
6:49 "There is no subscription necessary anywhere" 👍 👍
I like Google drive and have been looking to use Onenote with Onedrive less. I pay for both.
A bit of a correction: A6 standard is actually _a quarter_ of that sheet of paper (roughly an A4, which is 8.3" x 11.7"). A6 refers to the screen size, and with the borders, the device does come closer to an A5-sized paper (which is half of A4).
In turn, the footprint of the Supernote A5X (i.e. A5 screen size) is actually closer to an A4 paper because of the borders haha...
Finally someone explained this.
That is a general knowledge in Europe. Long live ISO standards, long live metric system, ling live DIN and JUS!
@@aurelije it's not general knowledge in the US.
@@brendalg4 because USA is outside of the common world. Theyvare the world for themselves. If you do not use a normal distance unit (meter) not using world standards for paper sizes is the least problem
Lights on Supernote hack: I bought a right angled USB-C to USB-A adapter and then some LED USB chip lights from Amazon. The light chips plug into the USB-A socket and the USB-C plugs into the Supernote's charging port, which gives you a mini reading light that casts over the surface of the Supernote.
Do you use the light at the bottom or the top?
@@yensteel The USB C is on the bottom edge of the A5X
I am also waiting for the A5X2. This review has really solidified this for me. That and the expandable storage and kindle app. Sure no backlight, but that's what my Kindle Paperwhite is for.
Agreed. After all of these e-Ink tablets, I still use my Kindle Oasis at bedtime
@@BrandonKBoswell any rough idea when it will start deliveries, and thank you for sharing your experiences and help
Thank you for the review! I recently purchased a Remarkable based on your previous recommendation, I will say that if I had known the Supernote could search for handwritten words I might have picked that up!
My intended use for these notebooks is that I want to be able to keep all the notes for my Dungeons and Dragons campaigns in one place and being able to reference back to previous sessions ON the device would be a god-send.
I still love and [narrowly] prefer my reMarkable. This one is probably too small for a D&D campaign anyway.
@@BrandonKBoswell That is what I told myself after I saw that function! XD
I do love the Remarkable tho. I picked up the Scribe pen to save a bit of money. Writes like a dream.
@JelenedraKTulsa I have been binging SO MANY videos because I have the exact same use case and can't settle on a tablet! 😅
Would appreciate anything you've learned in your time with the device. I run my sessions on paper at the moment but would love to store my notes digitally.
I've been tempted by paper overlay + ipad for reading D&D pdfs from the DMs guild, as well as media player for music, all in one D&D station, but with a budget of around £350 I don't think I can do better than Remarkable. Might not be able to read the pdfs or do media but it can replace my notes.
The writing to text feature isn't as useful as I hoped so my real compliant is the difficulty to "flip" through my notes when I need to look something up. However, I forget about the desktop app so I might have better luck scrolling through that.
However, do recommend saving yourself money and just getting an amazon scribe pen over remarkables.
I currently own an A6X2 and love it, it's a pleasure to take it everywhere with me and work with it. I am planning for the future to purchase an A4X2 which will rather stay at home and which will complement my workflow as size is sometimes an issue with the A6. Maybe the future A5X2 would be a good compromise to have a single device but I didn't have the patience to wait. In addition, A4 + A6 will be ideal for all cases.
Great review! Many thanks.
Great vid Brandon! Loving the nomad too, I agree it won't replace my remarkable but as a supplemental tool it's wonderful and the portability is awesome as well 👍
Omg! Why would someone need a Supernote to supplement a Remarkable? I'm shocked to hear that suggestion and I'm asking genuinely. Not trying to just argue on the Internet. It's just that I've gotten the impression that these devices are designed to help with focus and productivity and deliberately have limited features. If I have to use two different ones, then I'll have my notes scattered across different services and locations.
@@tolu619 Fair question, personally I use the remarkable for big picture ideas and planning. The nomad I use as more of a day to day jot pad and to sketch. With the respective phone apps I don't have to worry about my notes being scattered because I can access them all on my s23 Ultra. They are indeed both very focused devices like you mentioned. Hope that clarifies a bit for ya! It's worth noting too that reMarkable requires a subscription, Supernote does not
Thanks for the review, helpful to hear the differences. Do you ever sell on the units you review and end up not using long term?
I ❤ my RM 2 also. I can’t get enough of it. I try using an ipad to take notes but i always go back to the RM 2. Lately my RM 2 battery hasn’t been the best but the battery cannot be replaced. Thats my only challenge. And now with the new update where you can archive to take advantage on unlimited cloud storage. I can keep all my books in my large book collection in the cloud and unarchive the specific books I am reading now.
Great review. This was super helpful in my search for a notebook.
what did you finally buy?
@@TheInternetFan I ended up getting the A6X2. I combined it with the Supernote plugin for Obsidian. Game changer :)
Great review. I've got one on the way to me.
Thanks for the review. Waiting for the A5X2 myself. Kind of disappointed in the Boox I have, so it can't come soon enough.
🕘
Same here.
Thanks for helping me make a decision on purchasing my first e-ink device. I have an iPad Air + Apple Pen but it’s not pleasant to write on, even with a Paperlike. For drawing though, it’s great. I’m going to pick up the Supernote Nomad. :)
Great review! I sold my Remarkable2 and got an A6 nomad. The lock-in with remarkable cloud was a no-go for me. The on-device OCR is great for converting scribbles to text and natively syncing them to OneDrive. The A6 size works really well for me running between meetings.
I talked to customer service from r2 (didn't buy it) and they told me that I can use google drive or other cloud services without using remarkable cloud. I hope they were not lying to me.
This helpful… was considering buying R-2- just for taking hand written notes to convert to digital files… A6 better? Thanks
@@DraskoSaric They're not lying.
Can I also use the icloud ?
I bought it. On other clouds you will only have pdfs of files, not the original ones.
Thank you! I was expecting for you to say remarkable 2 is better. Lets hope I have the same oppinion when I will bought rem2 for my birthdsy in september.
Good review. I do think that besides device performance, much that goes into the decision of whether to buy one of these devices has to do with personal need. I own both the RM2 and the Nomad. Each performs well. Each could do with some improvement. Whatever their reasons, having a built-in front lit screen would vastly improve the devices. Digital note taking is a matter of convenience in all situations. So, having built-in light and making the devices water resistant should be a strong consideration for these manufacturers going forward. In addition, while the software on each is good, improving the connection with the IOS and Android ecosystems should be a goal. These are largely complementary devices. That said, I would give the nod to the Nomad, largely due to the current state of the software. Owning both, I find myself going most of the time to the Nomad for my note taking needs.
Your note about the front-light and convenience is spot on!
Great Video! Thank you! Small double audio at 7:20- maybe you can fix before it gets viewed a million times! Thank you for ALL your content!
♥It was intentional, but in retrospect was a poor editing decision. Thank you for the feedback.
@@BrandonKBoswell intentional ? what did you intend to make haha, im curious now
@@BrandonKBoswell I'm not used to being alone at home. It's late at night. I got scared thinking someone was in the house 😨
Just made the purchase, thanks. As much as I love my remarkable 2 I wanted something all in one that I can read books on too even if there is no backlight, probably gonna sell my Oasis and Palma as well.
Question how do you use the remarkable 2 or supernote in your workflow? Do you integrate it with Obsidian or something else entirely?
Good review. Apps sideloading is just "fixed" by today's update which adds a switch to enable sideloading and fixes auto-sync problem
This is amazing news! I had been avoiding updating until they did this.
Thank you for this video. I would buy the Remarkable 2 if it wasn't that old. I hope for a Remarkable 3, if not then the A5X2. 👍
I use my Nova Air 2 a lot for todo lists and I like the possibility to have it always on screen even when the device is off, but I don’t like the writing feel on it. Can the A6x2 do it? Does it have a “transparent” sleep mode?
Great review, thank you! My main use case is to write to-do items then easily be able to group or re-order them. Using paper notebook/postits doesn't allow for this so I am constantly re-writing the list as priorities change. Does Supernote have a feature to turn each checklist item into a movable object on the page?
This makes me really want to wait until the A5X2. I hope they make these more keyboard friendly as well...
Ive been looking at a bunch of different options and have been thinking of getting myself a digital note taking device that wont get me distracted every few seconds.. overall i love supernote and i think their company being the way it is is a huge positive for me, my only wish i that their devices were a bit bigger, but they have only released a few products so far i believe so we might get a bigger version in the future, at least i hope so lol.
Great video!❤
A5X2 isn't far off now. Stay strong ;)
Get a RocketBook instead. You’ll like it
Nice!
The thing about the writing lagging behind is a bummer, and a bit of a deal-breaker for me. I would love device like this or Remarkable for my college homework and notes, but I need it to be as close to real-time as possible. I tried doing homework/notes with a pen display (Huion Kamvas 13), but the latency between pen-stroke and ink-stroke kinda ruined that experience for me. I don't really care whether the display is e-ink or LCD or OLED, I really only care that it has near-zero latency.
If they allowed sideloading Android apps, this is an instant buy for me. Thanks for the review.
Lucky for you (and me): www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/1b3ra22/chauvet_31627_release_for_nomad/
Sound is well isolated and nicely leveled! Love to see you grow!
Thank you for noticing (and letting me know that you noticed), there is a new microphone setup for this video.
@@BrandonKBoswell it sounds great!
@@BrandonKBoswell I was about to comment about the sound as well, though I didn't like the sound. I get very bothered/distracted with sound-related stuff (too loud, too quiet, changing too much, too much dynamic range, etc) so the problem could very well be me.
But to me it sounds like the voice volume level is fluctuating a lot, to the point that I wasn't even being able to pay attention to the content. This might be a long shot, but it sounds like there's an EQ filter applied to the voice that is cutting quite a bit on some of your normal speech frequencies (it sounds to me it's the highs) while maintaining or even boosting the lows, so when the voice pitch is low it gets louder and when it's high it gets quieter. At 6:18 this is very noticeable, your voice gets quite low pitched saying "hour long" and it sounds way louder than when you say "supernote has" right after in a much higher pitch.
I don't know a lot about sound mixing / engineering but if there's indeed an EQ filter being used maybe it needs to be more subtle to avoid drastic level differences between frequencies that are part of the voice, or maybe adding a Compressor after the EQ can help even things out. If there's no EQ filter then it maybe needs one (or at least a Compressor). 😅
That said, the content is great and it definitely helped me decide on getting a Supernote, thanks a lot for the video. Hopefully the A5X2 will be released soon because I would love the bigger screen!
@ I feel the same...it seemed like every other word was fluctuating, very distracting to the actual content. I'm sure it's a great mic but something is off in the leveling, it does not sound natural.
The issue is compression, need to compress the audio track to even out those small (but noticeable) volume fluctuations
Are you going to get and review the new Kobo Color Libra? I want to know if the stylus here can be used on that screen without damaging it
Thanks for the great review. I am thinking of getting one for my wife who uses a spiral notebook to take notes. She has an iPad Air and a Kindle Paper-white for other things so I think the Nomad would be perfect to replace the spiral notebook. The only thing I need to decide is the screen size. My guess is she would prefer the A5X2 since it is close to the size of her spiral notebook. I hope that model comes out soon. I have heard rumors that it should be out in the next few months.
You are very welcome. I would hold out. The A5X2 won’t be long now.
I would miss how the reMarkable pen magnetically attaches and actually stays on. Waiting for the RM3.
Great informative video
Glad you liked it
Are the x2 devices better at palm detection than the x devices? My a5x accidentally activates things regularly. Which means I never relax. Has anyone made a fix? Thanks.
Thank you for this informed review. I’m looking for a device like this for work. I work in construction where I often need to make rough sketches to add dimensions to it for later reference. Do you feel this device is suitable for such a thing?
Yes
Great video! How are you satisfied with Remarkable 2's battery?
I’ve not had any issues with it.
Dang, I just need that dim backlight the scribe has! I was so hopeful.
I understand completely.
Does it have a back light for the display? To be able to write and read in low light or no light ?
Boox air note 3 or the supernote a6x2? Witch one should I purchase?
7:50 oh.. well that's a dealbreaker then. "You had one thing to do". I'll buy one when they fix the bug.
Which would you advice for college students use during class?
I wish every kid in school could have one of these to replace all of their notebooks and textbooks. This would've saved everyone's back!!
One day, hopefully in a not too distant future.
Great video, thanks! 7:43 does this always happen? Buying one soon, but still torn between Remarkable 2 and this one. Will mainly be used for focused writing, quick jot down of notes and on the go.
It’s very rare.
@@BrandonKBoswell Thanks!
I've had my nomad a couple of months. I've never seen that no-show bug before on my unit.
really wish this was a back/front lit device. Only thing holding me back unfortunately.
Hey, Brandon! Thank you for an awesome review!
I wonder whether the nib scratches the surface at all. Would you please let me know? Thanks!
👋 No scratching
@@BrandonKBoswell Thanks, man!
How much faster is it for real life usage like pdf zooming etc
Do they have a color version for the 7,8 inch? Thank you
On paper, the software benefits of the Supernote are a no-brainier compared to the Remarkable. However, when your actually use the devices, I quickly concluded that the Remarkable is simply the better device in terms of form factor and I really REALLY enjoyed the simplicity of the device and software. I think Remarkable really has the upper ground here.
I really hope for a remarkable 3 soon-ish, that'll have a 300 ppi display, more processing power, and a backlight.
I love the features in supernote I wish it came bigger like the size of a notebook
Wait for the A5X2
When does this one come out? I've been trying to figure out the differences among the super note models and I'm a bit confused.
Thank you for the video.
Can you tell me if I can use it without being connected to the internet? And also, can I save my files to a pendrive or moving them to my laptop by bluetooth ?
You can use this without internet and transfer files via USB. I'm unsure about a Pen Drive or Bluetooth
Is feelwrite 1 rly not good, i mean how far is it from an ipad feeling?
I can find feelwrite 1 for much cheaper , but i dont jnow how far it is from comfortable paper writing
No vertical scroll? Oi. Can you have it page by quarters or thirds?
Side-load apps. Good to hear it is coming. Kobo, Overdrive/Libby, and Pocket are much desired.
After my Note Air 3C debacle, I'm looking forward to trying out the A5X2.
It can vertical scroll, but it's limited to the original page dimensions. There's no half or quarter pages, but the scroll response is snappy (faster than on rM2).
Can you confirm a6 paper size it looks like a5. A6 is about the size of an old photo print barley biger than a cellphone. It looks bigger in your video
Great review thanks! Just a note, when it comes to doing audio for the CZcams video, be careful on how you use the compressor, as we can hear your voice constantly sound like it's going back and forth. This is probably due to the compressor being cranked up way too much.
Thank you for the feedback. Do you hear it in this (newer) video? I changed mics and tweaked some settings. czcams.com/video/pKOJCIAzA04/video.htmlsi=ps9RHq_vTpJjMkOD
@@BrandonKBoswell Its a little bit better but I can still notice your voice doing this back and forth thing in volume. Is your compressor cranked up high? It generally has to do with the 'attack' setting on it that gives it this effect.
LOL the no-show bug is a deal breaking for sure 7:42
It’s very rare. I was surprised that I was able to get footage of it
I've had my SuperNote Nomad for two months and use it daily. I've never seen the no-show bug before on my unit.
sounds like a great tool for writing notes during hospital rounds. any idea how it tests against using alcohol swaps xD
I’ve done it once or twice, but I have no idea about long term exposure. In the worst case scenario the outer layer is replaceable. If I’m not mistaken you can purchase additional films from Ratta.
Are there any similar devices that use Linux open source OSs with third party app support?
Man, I wish shipping etc was more affordable. I'd dump my Remarkable 1 in a heartbeat for this.
Shipping was only $20 usd for me and I'm in the southern hemisphere?
Did you try turning off the power saving feature (20s one) for the delay?
I haven’t. I love what that feature does for battery life, but I agree it could be a culprit.
Hi Brandon, at the end of the long video "SuperNote A6 X2 Nomad is finally here!" you show the vertical scrolling of the Supernote similar to that of the Remarkable 2. Instead in this video you say that there is no vertical scrolling in the Supernote. I did not understand. Is there or isn't vertical scrolling to stretch the space when you write?
The device gives you a portrait shaped document. When you orient the device landscaped you can scroll within the original portrait sized space. This is different to how the reMarkable works where you can keep scrolling to make the document taller
Thank you for clarifying
Thanks for the video.
Where can I switch on that the screen rotates when I take the A6x2 into landscape
Pull down from the top. The rotation lock should be in there
@@BrandonKBoswell Thank you
what are your thougths about using an inexpensive android tablet for listening to audio books... I download them from my library using libby or hoopla.... currently listening to them on my phone but sometimes it would be nice to listen to them on something else
This is slightly tangential to your question, but I just tried this out and can confirm that Kindle immersive reading works on both the Supernote and the Boox devices via Bluetooth headphones. The Supernote doesn’t have a speaker without.
i dont know if i miss it, but how about opening documents like pdf? can i write on the pdf?
I didn’t cover it in this video, but I believe I did in the original A5X review. You can open and mark up PDFs just fine.
Does that plastic screen seem durable? Resistant to scratches from the pen?
Yes, because it’s soft it doesn’t scratch.
@@BrandonKBoswell the kindle app runs surprisingly well on that device…which definitely makes it more appealing…but, I think I’d ultimately get the Scribe anyway.
I really was very enthusiastic about this Supernote product. Then I ordered and got this reply:
“We would like to inform you that we are currently facing some delivery delays that will take longer than expected, not before end March beginning April.
This is due to a problem that took place during the production of the Supernote A6X2 Nomad which has led the factory to undertake extensive testing to ensure that there are no malfunctions in the products. Please understand this exceptional situation, as our priority is to provide you with the highest quality products.”
So I cancelled the product and now I’m waiting 10 days and still no money.
Do any of the ones you have used have the ability to import a pdf and be able to not only draw on it, but add a text (box) as well?
I’m not 100% sure because it’s not my use case, but I think the Boox can do that.
Does this support other languages apart from English....?
When you say it has no scroll, does that mean we are limited to the page in front of us? What exactly does it mean?
Meaning that each page is limited to the portrait size and aspect ratio. You can always add another page.
Is it good to use for taking note (70%) and reading (30%) ?
Very good. This sounds ideal.
As a male, and semiretired - I miss not having my backpack (where I hauled my laptop etc.) How do you carry things around - I basically have the concept that if it doesn't fit in a pants pocket it is not going to be an 'every day carry' - most women have a purse. I am not ashamed to carry a messenger bag or like carrying case if I am going to a 'specific destination' conference or meeting but going to an grocery store - etc. I would love to know how you manage this. Note: I would love an e-ink that just is about the size of phone. - low battery usage - 'cheapness' in case I break it or lose it, etc, a good supply or source of compatible 'pens' for all your devices might be a good vid too. I have a 'paper issue' LOL - I hate to mess up a paper notebook or chuck my notes, hence I buy the cheapest memo pad for quick lists. I still have notes from HS, college and I have not purged yet and even one from middle school. It is a problem, I know. Battery usage is a big deal. I finally bought a Kindle, just black and white - after my niece said she only charges it up one every other month. I love it. after having it a year and a half It has 'reduced' my paper book purchases a lot, and I love 'the samples'. Thank the lord I have not learned how to get books from any other place than Amazon (but I am coming around the corner on that) and just learned to 'export' my highlights - never needed to really do that too much until recently. Soon I will learn to attach Libby to it.
So what you mean is the boox palma
can you rest your hand on the screen without it messing up the writing?
Yes
I have gone back to daily driving my boox tab ultra pro, i feel supernote in a lot of ways has a very good note app but PDF files can be, not so great, and for some reason supernote just needs to add more tools and options similar to boox, lets hope the A5x2 is the true all in one note taker
It should have the same software, so if you aren't enjoying the A6x2 software you will probably feel similarly.
Does this device have a calendar?
Yes, but depending on your needs it may or may not be enough.
man, no vertical scrolling is rough for someone coming from an ipad
REmarkable
👍
Does it have a Bluetooth keyboard function?
Yes, you can connect a Bluetooth or USB keyboard
@@BrandonKBoswell how can i order here sir? I am from the Philippines
Will it connect to a usb keyboard?
Yes.
ugh… I really want to buy this, but still can’t afford it 😅
This is one of the challenges with YT, it’s always pushing people to buy stuff. Focus on your craft, the tools are just nice to have
I want infinite canvas app for this device
Can you read ebooks that need an adobe id?
I don’t think there would be a way to authenticate, but I’m not 100% sure

if there was a larger one, I'd get it.
The A5X2 should be coming midyear

Replaceable battery?!
Yep
Interesting. I didn't know that this device doesn't support infinite continuous page scrolling.
Unfortunately. This is the biggest thing keeping me on reMarkable.
fun fact: did you know you can have Supernote engrave your name on the pen for free before they dispatch the parcel? 🙂
The irony: the thumbnail says "better than remarkable?" and the first ad I get when I open this video is the remarkable 2 ad :D Now don't tell me that there is no AI strolling through content to find relevant stuff to put in the face of consumers :D
Definitely
No back light .. needed for low light environments
Scribe or Boox are your only real options at the moment.
