I'm torn between this and the Note Air 3c

Are you sure the Clara does not have manual rotation in the pan/zoom menu (four arrows, leftmost button)? My Glo HD has it there, so this would be a significant regression if they removed it.

Will you review the new Clara BW with the Carta 1300 screen? I am very curious to see a side-by-side screen comparison between the Clara 2e, new Clara BW, and Clara colour.

Mine arrived today, I got to use it for around 20 minutes before the screen failed. Part of it is stuck on the same image. Other than this my first impression was that the display is fantastic, hopefully this is sorted by a warranty claim and I get a new device that lasts longer than 20 minutes.

Hello friend. Are any of the new similarly sized non-Kobo readers a good alternative to the Sage (due to battery issues on the latter)?

I really wish you create a project management one and also find a way to interconnect the 3. Also if we could add voice notes to the notes, it’ll be perfect, I know it’s not an App, but it’s just a wish.

It’s a shame they sent you the origami case for the Libra Colour. The pen storage in the notebook case, is the most elegant solution I’ve seen to date.

It’s nice to see that your experience mirrors mine. Although Kobo is using the same building blocks as Kindle and Boox, thoughtful design and engineering results in a better user experience. The Libra Colour is one of my favourite purchases of the last couple of years. Even the capacitive stylus, while inferior to Wacom, is adequate for the sort of short annotations that I tend to make on a device of this type.

Excellent review. Kobo is hands down what I use for reading all my books. I use something else for writing. I reckon the stylus is fine for annotating books, but that’s all. If they went with Wacom they’d steal the show by having arguably the best e-reader coupled with a good writing experience.

Can you use the boox stylus on the kobo libra 2?

Great video, especially for the comparison between Sage and the new kleido device. This only confirms my view that the 300 b/w ppi on Kleido screen is not really like 300 ppi on Carta screen, in fact I feel like it feels (looks) worse than 227 ppi Carta screen.

Another great video - thanks! I appreciated the comment about getting a black device. I had a white Libra 2 but now have a black Colour and it seems like the screen is brighter on the Colour due to the contrast. I tried both Clara and Libra and kept the Libra (gotta have my page turn buttons!) But am still holding out hope for an updated color Sage!

Been waiting for the Supernote A5x2, but curious to see how this compares. Screen looks great, but from what I remember the Boox notetaking software isn't nearly as good or feature rich as Supernote. Curious to see if notetaking is improved here too

Thanks for the review! I guess the only way to read Kobo Clara in the landscape mode is to use KOReader. Then PDFs will be a bit more useable.

Excellent video. I totally agree regarding the notebook. One problem I am noticing is when I read an American comic in landscape the upper panels are cut off, and unlike when you had the magazine article it won’t move up using the buttons or allow me to scroll. If there is something I am missing please let me know. And personally I don’t find the screen too dark. I recently finally tested a Boox Go 7 Color and found that screen way darker. Anyway thank you for the great review!

I see notifications on my boox from ksync about automatic pdf exporting, so its probably a process for syncing files

This was three years ago, and they might not have had a caps lock then. The current version, 3.12.4.4, now has one. Yeah!!!

The Kobo Libra Color is certainly not a dedicated note taking device but I love the note taking capability when reading and annotating. Switching between a notebook and the book you’re reading is easy. Being able to annotate in the epub copy in color is great. I mostly use my Microsoft surface pen with an HB tip which gives my a far better writing experience.

I have the Kobo Libra Colour since May 2024, and for notetaking is really disappointing! At the borders of the screen you cannot write straight lines or draw circles (because I think that the magnets inside the device and the cover affects the writing); I'm writing a log for my technical projects, but you cannot add or remove pages in the middle of the notebook (I mean the document you are writing with the pen) - the notetaking mode has a lack of useful options (Supernote and Boox devices are WAY BETTER than this); the plastic borders of the device make difficult to put the hand comfortably onto the screen to write like you'd do on a paper; the notetaking mode hardly has a palm-rejection feature implemented (at least for me); the advanced notebook is mainly useless because it has an "infinite" vertical scroll and is tedious to scroll up and down looking for a content - I prefer to have a document with multiple pages; I think that for sketching some hobby drawings is not that bad. For reading is pretty comfortable, unless you have problems reading with a grayish background (because the color layer on the screen add some darkness to what's shown on it). To reduce this effect, I normally must adjust the lightning brightness to 8% or 10% plus the warm light color to read better (not a bad experience for me). Thanks for the analysis! I need to express my (negative) opinions for what I considered a nice device (I didn't buy this - instead, I received it as a gift...) I hope Kobo publish an update in the near future to correct all of these bad-implemented features; this device could become a useful device with the correct features implementation (or maybe someone decide to publish an open-source add-on application for the Libra Colour).

This was the in-depth deep dive video I needed for this device! I'm still going back and forth over whether to get the Palma or the Go Color. It was great to get to see all the different settings and ways you can customize how the screen displays text.

On the "sharp edge issue": I bought two Amazon Scribes last year, both with the fabric folio cover. The edges on early Folios were poorly-finished, and threads were unravelling after just a few days. By the time I bought the second one, they'd made a running change to the cover- a heat-treated rolled edge sealed in the threads, making it look and feel more in line with the tablet. I just put the back of my Go 10.3 under a magnifier, and sure enough, the edge of the pleather backing has a similar heat seal. It's perfectly smooth and doesn't catch my fingernail, but it is a couple of thou proud of the edge of the alloy frame. Also, the bead has a much smaller diameter than the one on the Scribe's cover, which probably is why it felt almost sharp to you. Mind you, I can only talk about my production device- perhaps the review sample you were sent was a pre-production sample, and not quite as smooth?

Busy week, didn't have a chance to respond after receiving mine the day after this unboxing... I understand why you posted a glowing assessment! Lacking your experience with Android (IOS user since iPhone 3GS), I'm still learning what to remove or minimize in the UI to reduce distraction. Still, it feels very streamlined, and I don't miss the front light. The v3.5.3 firmware is already a big step up from the NA3C I tried out in January. Love the insert menu in Notes, but wish that access to Freemark worked across more apps. Sadly, the case is not lefty-friendly. Of course, I represent just 10% of the public, so that won't affect 90% of users.

I recently bought the Boox Note Air 3C. This machine complements my Android Samsung A45 phone, notebook PC, desktop PC, and iPad Pro 13." Although that seems like enough tech, Boox has found a niche that all the other tech does not provide. It is another versatile tool that saves my eyes, lets me read a lot (needed in my job), takes notes, and boosts my productivity painlessly. The color feature is obviously not the same as an iPad or anything close to OLED or other "bright screen" tech. Who cares when that is not the ultimate goal of an e-ink device? The usefulness is in note-taking. Exporting the work to PC (Word or PDF) will show the colors vividly. I save my eyes while creating the notes I need. This is a perfect use of color e-ink. It blows away the eyestrain of taking notes on the iPad. The B&W version cannot do the type of note-taking I want, but I imagine it is a great product as well. The Boox Note Air provides a lot of functionality that other e-ink devices fail to deliver. The battery life is fine for me. I must charge everything, usually within a couple of days anyway, and that is what the color version can do. So, my opinion is that it is well worth the investment. I appreciate the concern about dropping it on your head lol 10:50. I have on occasion managed to have my phone do a surprise drop attack on my face. Not nice! I also once did it was a fairly sizeable iPad Pro of some kind, but thankfully managed to wake up and evade and just get struck on my collarbone. It's no joke o.o

How does the ghosting and scrolling compare to the Tab X and the Tab Ultra, that have BSR?

I want to see this with Boox Super Refresh (BSR) for fast scrolling without ghosting, and in 12" size for reading academic books and papers. I also want the pen to come with an eraser. I would happily pay a higher price for these features.

I am a college student and i got rid of my tab ultra c and got a note air 3 c because the ultra was so thick it was awful to write on.

Now if only they made a 7" device with a black-and-white screen like this... it would be my perfect day-to-day companion.

Hey this is currently on sale for 300€ here. I want an e ink tablet just for music sheets since our marching band recently switched to tablet and you cant see anything in the sun. It needs to be able to connect to devices via bluetooth, send files to android and windows with bluetooth, read PDFs and basic editing to mark stuff in the music sheets, have a backlight (we sometimes play at night) and needs to allow me to sort the files in folders. Is this device enough?

Can it do handwriting to text? Can it do calculations on it?

You can tell it’s a render when you look at the zoom in of the cover. It looks like a stamp fill.

I bought a kindle scribe, sold it due to limited cross sharing platform. and then bought a Note Air3. even though I love 300ppi better than 227 ppi. Now, Boox Go 10.3 came out. I am thinking to sell Note Air 3 and get Go 10.3. I am a student and do a lot of reading, mostly academic papers and books. And I need cross platform sharing. And I don't know which one is better in writing/note-taking experience, on the surface. Any suggestions.

I have the wave and you can't swipe left to add a dedicated note page, as far as I can tell. How could they leave that feature out on the bigger device? If it's true I will have to return it for the origin.

Yeah that pen is so cheap, I would absolutely never use it.
