    With some details confirmed and a new speculative launch term moved by Ratta, while we wait, we can take a look at what we know now, and what we can infer about the A5X2, so that we can try and understand, is it worth waiting for, or not?

    Honestly, I thought this could have been another click-baity, zero-content video. I was wrong.
    I'm genuinely impressed with how carefully scoped, reasonable, and helpful this video is for people considering buying an A5X or an A5X2.
    Excellent work, keep it up!

    Thank you. I’m definitely going to wait. I was almost going to buy the remarkable 2 and then the Boox 10.3 but so glad I didn’t. I think the Supernote will be worth the delayed gratification

    _'God willing'_ I'll be upgrading from my A5X to the A5X2 so that I can as it were _'put it to bed',_ knowing then that I have a device that is going to last being user maintainable, if not user upgradable? Clearly, having an A5X I do not really need to upgrade, but then its longevity will constantly be on my mind.
    Thanks for another informative video Voja.

    I am afraid that the A5X2 will be too expensive for the European market, I expect >700 € for a complete package with cover, like the Boox devices. In my humble opinion, that's a too high price for such a device. I compare the A5X2 with the Note 3 C, which has colour and is much cheaper. Normally I would choose the A5X2 because of the company's philosophy, design and ease of use, but for now I am happy with my Note 3 C. I am curious to watch the first test of the A5X2.

    I can afford to wait 😂. I’m also considering waiting or getting a new Boox device. I think the price will be more equivalent to the NA3C, which is a whole apples to oranges analysis. From looking at the online postings I also think that even if they announce the A5X2 in May, most consumers probably won’t receive one until August or September.

    11:55 - Voja do you think this could mean they will use the 10.65" Carta 1300 screen that is out there!? The improvements in responsiveness and contrast would be so cool too! Also I would like to think they would put in a bigger battery with the extra real estate, the nomad battery is good but not great 🪫🔋

    I don’t actually have any issue with the micro-SD location. Understanding it’s also easier to access on the white version. My reasoning is that on my devices with SD expansion I rarely remove the SD-Card. I plug it in and make use of the expanded storage. So, the question is, what percentage of users regularly remove their SD-Card? In some ways, I prefer the more secure SD-Card location.

    When they announced the semi-folio design, I was immediately thinking of my Microsoft Surface 2017. There the cover attaches to the slim side of the device and doesn’t extend to the back at all, not even partly. That’s pretty neat, because it lays flat and there is no strange bevel or gap, although not really stable enough to lift the device just by the cover. It’s a pity, that the back is now longer protected with this approach (one reason why they maybe don’t release a see-through version that is prone to scratches this time - also seems to be the component responsible for most of the current Nomad delays). As they said, their goal is to save some weight, so the downsides might just be worth achieving that. Maybe they are even considering introducing a type folio at some point like e.g. the Surface or reMarkable offer, but last time they were asked for that on Reddit, they didn’t indicate any plans to do so in the near future. “For those who write” seems to mean by hand with a stylus and I love that commitment. As always: Thanks for the awesome content, Voja!

    Hoping for a return of the A5/6X's mechanical mechanism for the folio. Magnets just have the potential to cause issues with other devices

    It is interesting that Ratta put so much R&D and tooling resources into creating the A6X2 in the crystal and white versions. And, while the crystal is cool to look at, it really offers no advantage. I am going to guess that the A5X2 will only be available in a non-crystal version that has a white face and a durable back that acts as the back half of the semi-folio.

    I unfortunately need a device right now. I got used to using my ReMarkable 2 to organize my life, and the charging port has suddenly quit working properly. I have the super old original Supernote A6 Agile, so I got a 50% discount on the Nomad. Unfortunately, I'm not getting it right now either 😂 I might have it by the beginning of May. At least I was able to revive my old A6 to hold me off. I think the Nomad is going to be the perfect device for me personally

    SD Card Slot: it will be exactly where it is now, don't get your hopes up. I have read, I think even in a Supernote communique, that both devices will have the same motherboard.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes, but the motherboard can be oriented sideways and allow for external access to the SD card slot.

    Great video, two questions. One, do you think the slightly larger screen will be due to making the device simmetrical? They will pick up some real estate doing that. On the semi-folio design, do you think magnets would interfere with the screen if they were on the side? I know that is a concern on some devices.

  • @Bruceneuman

    Compare the SuperNote to the Remarkable or Scribe but not the Boox devices, which are more general use tablets. Compare those to an iPad or similar tablets. While I like my Nomad very much, these are in the expensive side when it comes to digital note takers.

    I ordered the nomad march 10 and just got an email saying I’m probably not going to receive it until May (no estimated date) and originally was told early April. I’m thinking of just cancelling my order and getting the a5x2…but still not sure what to do.

    • @Chimpbeserker
      @Chimpbeserker Před 2 měsíci

      Might as well cancel it and wait because you can't do anything about the time frame and if it's a better device you win in the end.
      I'm personally after watching this video waiting for it.

    My Supernote A5X is broken, so I need to upgrade.

  • @gregclare
    @gregclare Před 3 měsíci

    If the A5X2 uses the same control board as the A6X2, then I guess performance (compared to the A6X2) will suffer greatly with all the additional pixels to update, being twice the screen size and 300dpi. i.e. The overhead of updating nearly 3x as many pixels will need more processing power to be able to achieve similar performance to the Nomad.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Před 3 měsíci +5

      While the device will need to process more pixels, we are talking about a quad core CPU with 4GB of RAM, so no, the performance difference is likely not going to be something that will be perceivable due to the fact that the performance bottleneck will always be the E-Ink display's refresh speeds. So while under the hood the device may be marginally slower than the A6X2, I strongly suspect that this will still be way faster than what the screen is capable of displaying, thus resulting in the same visual performance.

      @gregclare Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@MyDeepGuide Thanks. Good assessment! Will be interesting when you're able to compare the A5X2 and the A6X2 performance, side-by-side. Hopefully only another month (or two), to wait.
