There is a world in which someone is wearing this gown to the grocery store and I hope we live in it.
TailorMags nobody can stop you :)
If you wore a gown like that to the grocery store, what would a black tie dress look like? I could live there though, feeling beautiful in my dress as I picked through the produce:)
@@beckeyeibert8637 wouldn't it just be a lovely thing? Such a shame to limit great clothes to rare occasions. And black tie, eh, I'm sure we could come up with something luscious 😁
If I had that I definitely would wear it shopping!! Especially in the climate we are living in at the moment. It would brighten the lives of people who are feeling lacklustre! X
I want to live in a world where I have a closet full of sparkly, super soft, floor length, twirly skirts and dresses with matching bodices for the skirts.
It really is too bad that I'm broke and I fall over every time I stand up, making long skirts a tripping hazard. Oh well, I can live vicariously through the ladies (and guys?) of costume college. [Seriously though, are there any guys doing costume college? It would be amazing to see some of their period costumes.]
This gown was an absolute DREAM to watch you assemble. I am honored to have watched part of its creation in that hotel room at CoCo 💖
(To answer your question though, I am sorely tempted to make a 1890's does 14th century, but that's my shenanigans side talking 😉)
I will watch that crazy video when it comes out!
I like shenanigans.
I must see this 1890s does 14th century outfit! 😃
Oh please do make a 1890s does 14th century!!!! That would be amazing!!!!
History bounding the 1890s edition
My favorite part of this whole series, Marika, is seeing your joy and pride in your creation. It can be hard sometimes to let people know when you are proud of something you create, and I love that you told us how proud you were of this. I'm proud of you for sharing this journey with us. Looking forward to every video you create - and every garment. Blessings to you!
That, Madam, is a truly Spectacular Gown! And the TARDIS lining was genius - thank you for the videos
This gown is more lovely every time I see it. Each time I catch those lovely details😍If I went to a fancy dress ball I would love to do a gown reminiscent of wisteria or a weeping willow.
That sounds lovely!
The mental image alone makes me want to see the dress made real. Sounds wonderful!
The attention to detail! The endless patience! It's stunning!
Everything about this gown is gorgeous the colour, silhouette and you absolutely perfect.
Gorgeous gown! One of my 13 year-olds has been designing a constellation gown for herself but has been the sure how she wants to do the constellations so I’ll show her how you did it to give her some ideas. (One of my other girls has already used your fun lining idea in her 1860s princess dress so know that you are inspiring the next generation of seamstresses!)
I’ve been wanting to make a Moroccan Great Dress so I’d actually get to it if I had a need for a ball gown. Instead I work on more everyday items but I will get to it at some point!
I loved the dress, I think the colour choices were great, the blue/black solid colour, the black sheer, the silver thread and the silver/clear stars, it all was stunning. All evoking the sky at night.
That gown is sheer perfection. I love absolutely every single detail. You did a marvelous job.
Breathtaking. I saw your gown in the footage that others posted of Costume College and had to come by and watch your beautiful dress as it evolved in your clever hands. I used to sew a lot, from repairs and alterations, clothes for myself, homewares and costumes for my children and other community groups (I once outfitted a whole nativity play with 17 cherubic stars in under 2 weeks on a miniscule budget). Unfortunately major injuries from a serious car accident and resulting chronic pain make sitting at my machine difficult these days, but every now and then I’ll whip up a costume for my now young adult kids or zoom through some of my mending pile. Watching all of you amazing costume ladies and your gowns definitely has me craving to create again, maybe it’s time to try and find the best sewing chair on the market - until then I’ll just keep swooning over everything I can find on CZcams ❤️
Absolutely gorgeous!!
My favorite parts were watching you drape the bodice, and place the constellations.
If I were to make a ballgown, the theme would have to be roses!
Oh wow, you did this in only six weeks? That's incredible. I think my favorite part was seeing it all put together.
If I was going to a 1890s party, I think I'd want my dress to be Aurora borealis themed. Or maybe a sunset fading into a night sky.
i've only just discovered you and bernadette. i don't sew anymore and never sewed on this scale. but i've thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the era of clothing i most enjoy is put together.
You certainly LOOKED like a queen in it! Seeing how much time and dedication went into this garment makes it even more special
This dress is so beautiful. A once in a lifetime creation. You make it look doable for us novices. My favourite part is the Tardas lining and the beaded constalations. Thankyou for sharing your process.
A beautiful gown for a beautiful woman! I love seeing the joy on your face when wearing this gown. It's absolutely beautiful and I'm totally obsessed with the colour
As for your question at the end of the video... if I was going to an 1890s fancy dress ball, I think I'd want to wear something spooky looking, with lots of black lace. I'd love to finally find an excuse to use some of the beautiful black lace I always spend forever staring at at the fabric store...
Your attention to detail in this dress is awesome. Beautiful dress! Have you ever come across a knitted shawl pattern called 'Celestarium'? It's a circular shawl which incorporates all of the northern hemisphere constellations - I could see you with one of those to accompany this dress 😀
Thanks for the suggestion of that shawl! It and the others in the series are gorgeous and are now on my "one day I'll make these" list.
I enjoyed it all. My daughter just called and asked me what I was doing. I said, "I'm watching a Victorian Ball Gown being constructed." She snickered and said, "Are you going to make one?" I said, "No, but I love watching it being made." Thank you. It turned out beautifully.
Oh, so gorgeous! Your gown has such intricacies: stitching and attaching sparkling gems to encompass the constellations that represent your children! (If I remember correctly) The hemispheres of stars and constellations on each side, such attention to details! I'm in awe, Bravo!
Having someone who knows how to draft and alter patterns show it in miniature in part 1 for the skirt, could make for a video series all on its own. I loved that part, and rewound and watched it twice before proceeding. It's like having someone hold my hand after I've spent time trying to figure out how to convert numbers and charts in a book into a three dimensional garment.
As for the question about what I'd wear to a fancy dress ball? If I really could wear anything, I'd probably want to try to do something in a deep teal, which, along with red, is my favorite color. Not necessarily Victorian. I've started liking the early 20th century styles, something slinky you'd see on a classic Hollywood red carpet. Not that I'd be able to wear that without a full body spanx suit thing in my current shape. lol
Honestly, though, my next sewing project is probably to turn a little scrap piece of denim I found in my stash into a cute apron. I live on a farm, and it's mud season, and I cook and clean, and it's pretty much yoga pants and my husband's t-shirts after three pregnancies changed my body, until I figure out what my style should be. I'd like to work towards a "farmwife-who-lives-under-a-rock" wardrobe of sorts. I've been reading Linda Przybyszewski, and she gives some sample wardrobes from the 20's and 30's, that fall into my niche of "farmer" meets "professor's wife" (well, software developer's wife in 2019 vs. 1938 lol ). Those are very absent in trousers and overalls, but give me an idea of the core of a wardrobe. And I am compelled to make "princess dresses" for my daughter. It'll be a good excuse to practice bigger projects on 1:2 scale "mockups"... Because five year olds need princess dresses like mama needs caffeine.
I don’t think anyone could outdo your glorious gown! It truly is fit for a queen. Thank you for sharing with us.
Marika, that dress was absolutely beautiful. You did a spectacular job on it. I don't blame you for being proud of it,you should be!
I had no idea about the street sweepers, and I’d always wondered how they kept those trains clean! That’s fascinating, thank you for sharing!
That hi-lo puff sleeve design is freakin' fabulous. And I LOVE your homage to the night sky on the skirt! The idea of a button-on balayeuse seems like such typical Victorian ingenuity. Oh! The footage and photos at the end were superb. And you used the stripey petticoat! Everything looks so beautiful.
As far as fancy dress themes go, I think it would be fun to try a Lovecraftian horror-inspired gown, or perhaps a forest fae theme.
That is, quite literally, the most beautiful gown I have ever seen.
What a beautiful dress, so creative and that blue looks lovely on you. I really find watching costuming relaxing, though it can be so stressful. I’m a man so I don’t get to wear a fancy dress but I do love Victorian fashions and I think I would like to see a beautiful blue and sea foam green silk and velvet gown that looked like crashing waves of the ocean with beaded sea spray of glass beads and pearls all around the bottom of the skirt. On the bodice there would be beadwork that looked like a fountain spray with voluminous chiffon sleeves with pearls and glass seed beads ever so lightly strewn about with the neckline and cuffs looking like splashing waves it would look like Venus rising from the sea.
That is probably the most beautiful dress I've ever seen in my life. 😍
Y'all are sewing goals. I'm rubbish at sewing and hope that one day I will be able to make something beautiful like you, Bernadette, Morgan, and Cathy.
Thank you for showing us your process. I think the thing I love best about this community is that even when working on similar projects, no one goes about them in quite the same way. I've learned so much!
I've always wanted to have a constellation/ space themed gown. This is it. So so so perfect.
The dress is beautiful...you have endless patience!
Sublime! You were true queen of night.
My fav part was definitely the tardis fabric reveal. My nerdy little heart jumped with joy. My dream costume gown is a flounced flamenco dress. Maybe one day I will have the skills. #goals
Thank for sharing your journey. I learned so much.
It is an absolute labor of love! Gasp! Maybe that will be the dress you will set up on a dress form for a piece of art for all to enjoy when they enter your home.
I enjoyed each of your videos. I always find it so very interesting how differently every dressmaker and tailor sew. I've learned so much by just watching how people do things that seem could be habituated in one process. My friends and students taught me many things that I use today. Oh! Sorry. I was teaching a few people how to sew quilts or dolls and such fancies, night school teacher, not really though. I don't want you to change a thing that you do in your videos. I enjoy them just as they are.
This dress is so stunning beautiful!
Hmm.. my favourite part..
oh I can’t choose. Everything is just lovely.
But.
I find myself sitting with a big happy smile in my face in the end of part 3, just to watch your excitement and happiness of the dress. And you should be just that! Happy, excited and very, very pleased. It is absolutely gorgeous and I hope you can wear it over and over again - everywhere!
It is worth it.
You've inspired me to unearth my serger and give it another try. I just finished a ruffled petticoat and just zigzagged the tops of the ruffles. Your patience for doing the stars and constellations was well worth it. The dress is gorgeous and is truly a work of art.
This gown is something that belongs on a book cover!! (I nominate you as Feyre!) Also your library is amazing, and your creations are incredible to watch come into fruition!
What a work of art. Truly inspirational. Thank you. To think that in days gone by, these beautiful creations were all made by hand. Thankful for the invention of the sewing machine!
The sleeve shape is so pleasant. Between the embroidery and stone details your end result is nothing short of magical.
It's really lovely, and great to see all the care that went into making this. On seeing it first time I didn't even realize the stars were constellations, and I really like the subtlety of it. Thanks for showing us all the details!
You should be proud of yourself, because that gown is stunning and you looked lovely in it. Beautiful!
I hadn’t seen that crystal adhesive tool before. That’s an excellent idea.
I would love to see more details about the dust ruffle underneath. One day I will have the courage to make a gown similar to this for a ball or gala- though I am uncertain I would ever do a train.
So. Many. Stars. I am sure it didnt seem like that many at the outset. Congratulations on a stunning result!
WOW WOW WOW!!!
there are not enough superlatives to describe how I feel about this gown...you clever little chicken... :)))
This is the most stunning gown! Amazing job!!!
I love the lining! The whole dress is just beautiful!
This gown is absolutely stunning! Beautiful job!
Thank you so much Marika for sharing this beautiful gown with us. I wouldn't know where to begin. Truly magical. 💜
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this spectacular project with us!
Lovely! Well done!
omg the picture of you jumping at the end is so cute :D this series has been a joy to watch!
It turned out absolutely amazing!
Stunning! You are so skilled. Thank you.
A beautiful dress and you looked gorgeous. Astounding patience to put those gems on.
its charming i love how it turned out
this is incredible! What a brilliant project
Absolutely stunning!
I love seeing a project come together. You did such a great job x
Wow! Just wow!
I've been dying for this episode to come out! It was so interesting! I think the bodice, sleeves, and stars were my favorite parts to watch. I have so thoroughly enjoyed watching this series! You did such a gorgeous job on the dress and are a true inspiration!
⭐️🌟✨🌟⭐️ my favourite part is the stars - they were totally worth every moment of hot gunning, they take a beautiful dress and make it breathtaking, and I’m so glad you got to have such stunning photos taken too. Every inch a Queen of the night sky (not lady, definitely not lady😂)
😂😂😂
Marika you look gorgeous! All the hard work and patience definitely paid off!
The final effect is amazing, truly stunning. The way it looks in the natural light photos, wow! This was a great deal of patient work and the result proves you're a true member costume royalty, it suits you so well!
Just WOW 🤩!! So beautiful!
So impressed with the details!
For me it's watching the construction of the garment that I enjoy the most. I will admit to using a ruffling foot to create the ruffles and sew them onto the flat fabric at the same time.
This is such a beautiful gown! I loved watching the whole process and the lining makes my whovian heart happy
Oh my goodness!!! What a spectacular gown!!!!
Stunning! Thank you for bring us along.

Beautiful work Marika. You absolutely should be proud of the work that went into this.
This is an absolute inspiration -- your process and project management is amazing and I can't wait to leave work so I can go sew!!
Absolutely beautiful!
So Stunning!
This dress is gorgeous!!
Love this gown, I think it is one of my favorites from this years costume collage. I loved all three parts of this video, but if I had to choose, then the second one about the bodice, would be the best, I learned so much.
This is truly stunning!
So gorgeous! So statuesque
I’m pretty sure my favorite part was just entirely that jumping shot at the end. Pure joy. :)
Amazing! You are an inspiration! 💕
Glorious!
I love the fabric you chose, it's so pretty!
Bloody GORGEOUS!!! Bravo to you on the beautiful finish.
Amazing work...so patient to put all of the sparkle pieces on the dress one by one and then heat setting them. Just amazing...
Absolutely beautiful I love it
Your work is always so detail oriented. Thank you for sharing this.
A stunningly breathtaking piece! Amazing work, this dress inspires me 🌟
Your gown turned out beautiful.
Watched all three, and once again incredible.
