oOoOO, I am FEELING this 1890's inspiration!! I need a polka-dot version like, yesterday.
All the polka dots! đ
Wow a polka-dot petticoat is extra in all the right ways.
I used to do reenactment with someone that hated that all my pieces were either lacing or drawstring until she forgot a skirt and needed to borrow one, but i was the only one with adjustable skirts đ
holy moley stripoley â€ïž it always makes me so sad seeing those extant stripey petticoats that they would never be worn outside đ I hope you DO intend to wear yours on a daily basis đ
I know im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost the login password. I love any help you can give me.
@Porter Magnus Instablaster ;)
*desperately resists the urge to make twelve petticoats*
These are so beautiful!
Oh I love the stripy one especially much, it's perfect!!
Ooooh, that black-and-white chevron petticoat! I would #historybound the snot out of that!
I love that anyone reading the book for interest sake not instruction might have thought the extant examples where the fabrics are different may have been fashion choices, but you just discovered that ah yes, people have been running out of fabric since always
Anyone else thinking "now I NEED a roller cutter"?
Rotary Cutters are amazing!
10/10 would recommend!
Yes. My tought exactly!
I bought one, but the problem is the blade doesn't appear to be super sharp? I have to go over everything more than once for it to cut. Maybe my cutting mat's too squishy - it's a small one designed for x-acto knife use. Also you need to have a REALLY big cutting mat for a rotary cutter so I found it wasn't practical unless you're able to have a permanent sewing room :(
Even tho the striped petti is underneath everything, it would totally work for a Beetlejuice type look as an outer skirt. Also is it Ikea fabric?
Dai Sanders it totally would work for, like, a Victorian Beetlejuice look!
@@seanmcgcostumes Was also thinking it would also work for a Mrs Lovett look.
It also works as a skirt for a Female Jack Skellington or as I like to call her âJacqueline Skellingtonâ.
I think we can agree, it is on point Tim Burton asthetic
I loved watching you make these adorable undergarments. I love how all the seams are well hidden and will wash and wear and stay beautifully strong. It inspires me to use similar techniques in sewing my everyday ordinary modern clothes. Thank you for posting your processes.
Edited to add, Stashbusting is a GREAT tip!
So pretty. This turned out beautifully. Almost a shame to cover it upđ Yay for stripey petticoats
What a great job on your petticoat!! Its beautiful!
Many years ago when I was about 3, my mom bought brown and gold plaid to make me a dress. She laid it out on the living room floor making sure everything matched. Before cutting it out she stopped to go to the basement to do laundry (1950's and a wringer washer--it took awhile). My dad the engineer came home thought, "Oh my, if I rearrange these pieces my wife can save material" -- then "fixed" it. Later that evening, after dinner etc. my mom cut out the dress and sat down to sew. By midnight she was sobbing because nothing was working and she paid $1.00 a yard for it (expensive in 1952).
My dad then confessed how he "fixed" it for her and she says that she didnt talk to him for 2 or 3 days after that.
My immediate reaction at seeing your 2nd petticoat fabric was as follows;
*Beetle juice, BeetleJuice, BEETLEJUICE!*
That being said the 2nd petticoat is definitely my favorite.
Nostalgia is a terrible thing ^^
that first petti is the most adorable thing!! i love the insertion lace over the raw seam-- both functional and cute! it makes me want to put aside my current project and make myself a ruffly skirt :)
Several things I have to say about this video. 1. You are an absolute saint to work with so many strips! my eyes would have crossed and I would have stopped trying to match stripes three panels into the first petticoat if I had made the same project! 2. I never knew how to make a mitered corner until today. You've enlightened me into a whole new world of things I can make *0*
thank you for such a lovely video!
I finished binding my first cloak last night. I never knew how thick twill tape is and how much of a pain in the hand it is as I did most of it by handđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
I've learned so much from watching you today, especially about matching up strips and how to finish seams with ribbons and lace. How clever you are. I found your page by watching another persons page and she recommended your page. I'm so please that she did. I am still learning so much about sewing and am enjoying the process. Thanks so much for sharing. Does matching up all patterns on fabric start with cutting out the pieces singularly? I have never done this and want to be able to do so when needed. Why do you use a half inch for your seams instead of the 5/8 used in commercial patterns. Learning to draft a pattern is a goal I have for next year. The petticoats you sewed are marvellous. I am so impressed and have fun watching the process.
Cutting the pieces out one at a time makes it much easier to match up the pattern perfectly. As for the seam allowance, I prefer to work with 1/2" because that is the main seam guild measurement on my machine đ
The black and white striped petticoat would be awesome as part of a Halloween inspired outfit.
The black and white stripe petticoat is giving me strong Halloween vibes. I loved the chevron trim on it and the different sized stripes as well!
It is so on point tim burtons asthetic
Hello from Florida! Such a pleasure to watch you sew up these delightful petticoats! I can visualize the blue striped one for a preacher's daughter. And the chevrons, in an outer layer fabric, are certainly for 'Miss Kitty', a saloon owner of the old TV Western "Gunsmoke" (with a red jacket over a crisp white blouse)! Brava, Madame, Brava!
Such beautiful skirts! I was very surprised with the dramatic black and white stripes being used to such effect with the horizontal ruffle and the chevrons! It looks like lovely evening wear. The blue and white looks like a charming country girl's skirt. (I know one is a petticoat for under the other but still!)
I don't know what the over skirt and jacket will be, but I very much want to own and wear a copy of your black and white skirt! Maybe some black tassels at each chevron point would be good, for extra swish and drama! It makes me want to flout current fashions and wear this amazing skirt to a fancy evening out sometime!
My working wardrobe is jean shorts and disreputable t-shirts. (I am a potter.) When I look at these lovely things I want to acquire such garments and wear them when I am not covered in muck. You inspire me!
I am a woodworker and therefor also adressed for the job and covered in material . . . Some realy nice garments are needed to compensate for it in downtime
Love some wholesome skirt twirling đœđ
It is the best! đ
The petticoats were really beautiful. You could wear the chevron one as a skirt with a sweater layered over it! I am wondering if you could explain more in the beginning what you are going to do? Maybe a photo of what a finished item would look like? I am also interested in how you decided the measurement changes from the history book? I am new to historical dress sewing, so I am trying to learn all I can. Thank you very much!
Bernadette Banner and Morgan Donner both have videos on how to scale a pattern up from a book or picture. Morgan has one using a computer to do the sizing and one without.
@@brissygirl4997 Thank you!
Thank you Peggy!
I enlarged the pattern with an apportioning ruler. It isn't a real ruler, as the length of the ruler depends on your bust, waist, and length of back measurement. If you look up Festive Attyre she has a great a great blog post and a few videos on how to use them!
I love the attention to detail! That little ribbon you weaved in for that finishing touch on the petticoat was absolutely adorable! I let out an audible "aw"
Of course your chevrons are amazing (that pattern matching!) but it is actually the other petticoat that stole my heart. What a delicate, beautiful ruffle! And the lace! And the ribbon! I want to flounce around in it all day!
Am I the only one that loved the way the chevron pieces looked on the back, too?
Omg. The blue is sweet but the black & white is one of the most beautiful petticoats I've ever seen
Your tutorials (and music) are like candy for my soul.
Thank you đ I'm glad you hear you are enjoying them!
Lovely petticoats, the chevrons are like bunting for petticoats.
The stripey petticoat turned out amazing! Those mitered corners make another appearance here: "I then neatly sewed..." You certainly did! As a beginner whose machine-stitched lines are an avant-garde wavy mess, I find myself leaning in to observe every time you effortlessly wrangle that SunStar into submission. LOL!
That first petticoat is a cotton voile daydream. The little tucks and the lace and that ribbon finish - SWOON. I need to re-watch the part where you created the tucks, and I definitely need to do some research on "ruffle math." **cracks knuckles** Here we go!
How cute! If I remember correctly, you wore the chevrons under your Costume College gown, right? It was delightfully unexpected! :)
Great tip on gathering. Such a good idea and less frustrating if the thread does break! The black and white petticoat is gorgeous.
Both petticoats are lovely, but the black and white one is also amazing! I would wear that everyday!
Very pretty - your hands, the petticoats and the music. Helpful and instructional too - great vid all round. Thanks so much. :-D
The black striped petticoat is INCREDIBLE! Bravo on design and execution!
Thanks. I am starting the undergarments for a late 1890s outfit. This gave me some ideas.
Good luck!
That black and white striped one is to die for!
The quality of your projects and videos continues to amaze me! Perhaps one day my hard work shall pay of and my projects will look as neat as yours, untill then i'll keep on practicing while watching your videos â€â€â€
Thank you @pay1370 đ good luck with your projects!
Excellent addition to the stripey challenge tag!
Stashbusting is awesome! That blue striped material is lovely. What a cool way of hiding the seam between the yoke/body. You have serious patience to make those ruffles, but it looks so pretty. French seams just make things neater. Those are stunning. What a marvelous job. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That black and white one seems like it should be a skirt in its own right. Both turned out beautifully. thanks for sharing this.
I just watched this for like the fourth time.. so lovely! In the meantime I've also made a petticoat kinda reminiscent of the blue one, but I just need more petticoat galore in my life
Unbelievable! These are not only beautiful, they are also responding to the stripey challenge, right in time for fall for costume and stashbusting !! So cool !
Your petticoats are amazing. You are so talented. Thank You for sharing your creations with us. I love the soft blue most of all. It is so pretty, it's a shame to hide it under other clothes. Please keep sewing and sharing. I'm also looking forward to seeing your girls' Christmas dresses.
That chevron petticoat is amazing!
I love the black and white one!
I love those petticoats!!! The black and white stripey one is fabulous, and the pale blue one with the lace is gorgeous! I wish I could sew as well as you do. You are such a wonderful seamstress!!! TFS! ~Janet in Canada
LOVE what you do. I'm 29 and I want to wear victorian like clothes everyday. I have been trying to find a pattern for a corset. Now I have an idea for a petticoat
I would love to see what you and your bridal party wore at your wedding!!!
I know it! I saw the Intro-Picture and was sure, that youre blackandwhite petticoat was take part at Karolinas Stripey Challenge - and then there was the hashtag. ^^ Soooo beautiful! Both of them in different ways. :-)
The zigzaggy one looked most intriguing,
Bless you!! I have been looking for ages to find 1890s petticoat videos.
Noelle sent me lol. But I was a sub from a while ago. I don't know which petticoat I like best. Wonderful work!
Now I need to go and make a stripy petticoat so I can go swishy swishy! Gorgeous work as always Marika đ
Hi Marika they are so beautiful i have always loved Victorian Petticoat outfits they do stand out and look classy well done Donna
Drawstrings are the BEST for anything period, so much more versatile!
Hello Hello, I am new to here, but do watch Ms. Donner, Miss Banner & some other sweet ladies. I apologize for being so late here, but I can promise I'll stick around.
I would like to show my appreciation of these adorable Petticoats. These have such an alluring flow to them.
Body con has its place I suppose But the movement of each one of different weights of fabric are a lovely example. Thank you.
I should like to commission a few night dresses In the delicate cotton lawn. Utilizing the stripe fabric in only the palest blues, lavenders, pink & whites. With the ever so delicate hem, ruffles for days & beautifully executed tucks, dainty ribbons peeking out of the most exquisite lace ... Be still my heart.
You have excellent sewing skills, and are generous with information that helps others. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I saw the black and white striped petticoat and loved it without seeing one second of your video!
I'd wear that as outterwear =D
The chevron petticoat is just too lovely to hide away...a summer skirt perhaps? Would you let me know the make of your sewing machine and is it set into the table? Thank you for this channel...so many wonderful things to watch with you Kathy, Bernadette and Morgan. Such amazing gifts you all have.
WOW, they are so beautiful, yet SO DIFFERENT the blue stripes with lace is pretty and feminine where the black and white stripes is BOLD AND PLAYFUL I can't decide which one I like best. As always you did a great job.
Thanks for sharing
God Bless
These petticoats are beautiful! Loving the stripes, tucks, lace, rubbons and chevrons!
Ha! Just what I neededđ„°đ„°đ„° love love love love love!!!
I'm watching your La Belle Epoque over 2years later because I want to make myself some petticoats and was struggling to work out where to find a pattern and how to make it my size (I'm far from the ideal 24"-30" waist) and you've given me a really good starting paint because I actually have the pattern book you referenced and never thought to look through it thoroughly. Thank you Marika :)
Absolutely LOVE these!!!!
So lovely
Thank you for sharing! Both are absolutely beautiful, but that black and white striped one is outstanding! Those chevrons, omgosh.
these are beautiful petticoats, but would also make wonderful skirts for every day wear. I agree that this vid and yourself are wonderful inspirations. Thank you.
I LOVED this!!! You did such an epic jobđ
Oh man, watching this while French seaming my endless miles of petticoat. So yes I feel the âfor some reason I French seam everythingâ
This is so calming, pretty & easy to understand. Thanks.
This is great!
I'm impressed. That black and white chevron is truly stunning. It's VERY inspirational, and now all I want to do is make skirts with that pattern, and I'm all out of straight striped material, dagnabbit lol
Goooooorgeous!
Those are beautiful! You did a great job on these. Thank you for sharing
Oh my, I LOVE the black and white striped petticoat!
I love this! I just made two petticoats last week too! Awesome!
So lovely!!
These are both super pretty!
Those are crazy GORGEOUS.
Such pretty petticoats. I love all the little details, so much fun
I know it's a petticoat, but I'd royally wear that black and white one as a skirt just got fun.
All the fabulousness!
Love these xđ
They were both so cute. The little tucks....and the chevron!!! Wow.
Oh gosh, these are too wonderful! I love how cute and sweet the blue one is, and how fun and whimsical the black one is! Your craftsmanship on these was so lovely to see!
Your Petticoats are so beautiful đ I really like the way you close them đ
Love the black and white! The blue and white is terribly sweet, too!
I adore your petticoats! I am seriously considering making one, but for outerwear, because why hide such prettyness? đ€
Beautiful and mesmerizing!
Wow, someone else who loved French seaming đ€©
Beautiful petticoat, I learnt so much, thank you for showing sewing, all the fiddling while sewing is so helpful.
And thanks to Noelle for suggesting your channel.
Thanks, love your good sense of humor đ„°
Sew beautiful!! Thank you!
What gorgeous petticoats. I'm going to have to get my sewing space set up so I can get to sewing pretty things for myself.
Very nicely done. Turned out so pretty. Thank You
Oh wow even your petticoats are super amazing!!! Super glad to be going through all your videos. You are such a fabulous stitcher!
You could easily wear this every day. I want one lol!
Ah, matching stripes, I never could figure that out and loved seeing you do it!
We're in love with the cheverons! Can't wait to start on our own turn of the century outfits but sadly it's looking more and more like a winter project. Can't wait to see what else you have in store!
So beautiful! Now I'm inspired to make all manner of petticoats!
