      Hey again Shawn!
A question where I'm not certain I saw what I think I saw.
Did that oilskin tarp have a stove jack on it?
There was a square piece of dark material on the inside as you rolled it out that looks like it could've been one, but I wasn't sure & figured I'd ask.

      Some "history" ->
I'm not sure if David Coverdale, White Snake's vocalist, was in any other band before singing with Rainbow on their Storm Bringer album, but that's the 1st time I ever heard him.
After that, it took some years I guess for the band Whitesnake to be formed & then, whammo.
I'm not sure if the band is still making music in 2022, but you do have a sort of wannabe in the form of Bjorn Lander & another person whose name escapes me at this moment.
Bjorn is cool but needs better lyrics sometimes.

“Sacrificing a tree” it seems that a lot of people don’t get it, but a stand of small trees close together is not good, they’re all robbing each other of nutrients, so thinning that out actually encourages growth and health in the ones left. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out, so if you need a tree sometimes, I’m not complaining and neither should anyone else. In the area where you routinely seem to do these videos, mostly there is a lot of thinning needed for the forests health (IMHO). So, keep making videos for me to enjoy, please and thank you very much!

My parents had a dope, air-cook popcorn maker in the mid 80s-early 90s. Pour it in the bottom, hit the button, the corn would pop and migrate out the top of the contraption into the awaiting bowl. It had a removable container on top to melt your butter whilst the corn got to popping'.

A couple of details that I appreciate in your videos: the final still image, for several seconds, where we can see the setup of the camp in operation and the recovery of the camping environment, as found, once you break the camp in order to leave as little footprint as possible on the environment. A detail, the latter, of respect for the environment that speaks highly of the person who performs it. Thank you for doing it. 👍😉

If I’ve missed it, my apologies. But I’ve not noticed a first aid kit discussion. With the use of knives, handling fire/hot items, sharp saws, pointy sticks, old lumber, and other wound potential issues, maybe discuss what a good first aid kit would need. Anything from sun screen to a suture kit. Murphy can and will show up eventually and something will be needed.
    What are your thoughts?

Loved the shovel part. My grandfather worked in the woods to stop a forest fire way back in the 30's or 40's. I remember stories about how all they had was tools for cutting and digging to remove healthy trees from the path of the fire in order to stop the spread of the fire. They would use their shovels to cook food. The guy delivering the food used to hang around and help eat most of the food. So instead of washing it clean in a stream...my grandfather took a shovel and got it really dirty...then cooked some food on it in front of buddy. The guy was disgusted and asked is that how you always cook the food...my grandfather joked that a little dirt adds flavor. After that buddy would drop off the food and move on instead of eating most of the guys food. The older generations had to improvise and use what they had on hand.

I like that you keep it real about just having fun and learning something in the process. I’d personally probably never try doing what you do (I’m a state park camping type), but it’s always good to know some basic skills in case your gear fails, you forget something, or Mother Nature throws you a curve ball.
My dad was 1st calvary in Vietnam and taught me a lot when I was a young girl. Those skills helped me though many local natural disasters, and of course, just camping for fun.

Another excellent camp. I especially like the way your videos show both building shelters (when in the open) and using/improving upon existing structures that are present. As I believe you said once - why waste time building a shelter when all you have to do is slightly improve and cover up an existing framework. I thoroughly enjoy watching the thought process that goes into these overnighters. As always, your time and effort are much appreciated. Semper Fi, brother!

Like first, watch video second... CPL. K👍👍 Master of the bank line is at it again, excellent. Good idea using what mother nature has already provided, cave, downed tree, rock structure Etc.. Saves a lot of back breaking work and its usually stronger than what one can make. The DFP worked great AF, provided the means to grill that steak, pop popcorn and make a breakfast egg on a shovel and to be honest, almost all fires need fed regularly. A long fire like you said and a self feeding fire (which you never see because of proper construction requirements) are the exception. Great video, well done, thanks. See ya next time. Enjoy!

EDIT: actually that gave me an idea. Have you ever (and this of course depends on the laws of your state) thought about camping videos with "combat kit"? How it would change camping and shelter building. Or do you think would it be the same principles, but just having a rifle, ammo, and combat gear with you.

I stealth camped for two years. One thing to think about if possible and if you are in a situation where you do not want to be found easily by sight, is that if you can, gather debris from sites not visible from where you are actually camped, as the disturbed leaves and loam could give you away. If you need more than one trip to gather debris, possibly consider taking it from multiple locations so as not to create a trail.

Want you to know that your channel has opened my eyes and mind to the reality of the skills and tools I will need in order to survive a major disaster. You have added value to my life with your willingness to share what you know about bush craft. I checked out Bushcraft Diva and have been watching Dave Canterberry’s channel as well. I am gathering my tools now. Women really need to know this information, too, since they may be responsible for keeping a family intact after a catastrophe such as a major war or other event. Your simple, respectful presentation makes it easy to see the sequences in learning, and applying these skills. Thank you.

Looked like a a simple, no frills, easily erected stealth camp of a size and design to keep you dry and help you regulate your core temp without too much trouble beyond keeping that fire stoked through the night. I'm a firm believer in the K.I.S.S. principle. I'm always amazed and angered by all the armchair experts that criticize and chastise one for things like how food is cooked or just about anything anyone is doing in the woods. My advice to them is, put up or shut up. Create their own videos on how it's really done and post it and then defend what they did in the video when all the ravenous armchair warriors come banging on the door with their pitchforks and torches. Keep on keeping on Shawn you're rocking it and don't need me or anyone else to tell you that.

I watched your last few vids and like the post apocalyptic vibes. I grew up on the Texas Mexico border and came across illegal immigrant camps. This was before the cartel got into smuggling. Rural Mexicans with some bush skills who avoided gringos like the plague and generally ended up on a curve on the rail road where they jumped trains heading north. They worked for six months or then sent money home, turned themselves into immigration and got a free plane ride home.

Good job as usual. I am 75 years old and disabled but I still learn from your videos. I have a small pack, some gear, and a survival kit in my vehicle in case I get stranded. I am unable to walk very far but I can shelter in place either in the back of my pickup truck or beside it.

Most of the year in South LA a Dakota Fire Pit would not work because the water table is so high. Digging deeper than 6” your fire pit would soon fill with water rendering it useless for that purpose.
Steak yummmmm (my best Homer Simpson impersonation). You know do know how to rough it Cpl Kelly. 😉 and the popcorn is a great way to end an evening by a fire. Yummm.
Thanks Cpl Kelly for another OUTSTANDING episode.
