    Hi besties! I have some announcements/questions for you guys and since I don't have a community tab, I gotta ask here.
    1. Thank you guys so much for 100 subscribers!! I can't believe that there are people that actually like my content. You guys are amazing, so what kinda video do you want to celebrate 100 subs? I'm open to all suggestions. It can be about Kpop or me personally or a mix. It doesn't matter. Whatever you guys want, just let me know! I have a lot of videos planned for you guys. I'm actually planning on doing a video that's a commentary over episode one of a k-drama. I know that this is a kpop channel, don't worry that's not changing. I just think a lot of kpop fans also like k-dramas, and I wanna do this! Any drama suggestions? I always see movie/ tv show commentary channels, but no one ever does them for k-dramas. I might just do this once it depends on if you guys like it, but don't worry all of my content is still k-pop. My next video will probably be the Feb./March comeback review.
    2. I know I've been gone for a month and as I mentioned in the video it was for kinda personal reasons. But I'm back! I'm sorry this video is so long, but I thought you guys deserved it after the month long wait. So, just think of this video like a mini-podcast or something.
    Thanks so much for everything so far!

      Hi hello (●’◡’●)ノ
      Glad to hear you are doing well now and is coming back strong with the content.
      I'm looking forward your monthly review and about the kdrama commentary, I think it would be pretty interesting. I'm not that into kdramas (mainly because most of the ones I have watched were kinda... Slow... Or trying to be funny so much that it is getting cringy and physically hard to watch) and that way I may find something that fits my preference or just look through the plot with you without actually watching the drama.
      About suggestions for videos... Eh... I'm not very creative when it comes to ideas so I'll just wait for someone else to think of something interesting 😊
      Also I feel like my taste in music as well as opinions about kpop are pretty similar (maybe that's why I like your channel this much) so I would gladly learn more about you if you choose to make more personal videos like Q&A or something like that.
      I'm very excited for your first yt achievement (100 subs) and looking forward for the next one...
      Again happy birthday and I 💜 U

    My unpopular opinion: There's nothing wrong with feeling a emotional connection to your idols. Saying things like " [group] doesn't care about you" ect. You never know how idols / groups can influence fans. I'll use my case as an example. I was bullied for 4+years and always felt like an outcast. But as soon as I found Twice I fealt like there was finally someone who was a good example. And they have made me feel so much better mentally. It's really rude telling people that their feelings are irrelevant when not knowing others situations. I dream of being able to show my idols how much they mean to me. Wanting to have a friend/relationship with idols is ok if you can live without that happening. I wish people realize others situations instead of just judging.

    • @katerinarose
      @katerinarose  Před 3 lety +41

      I definitely agree with you! I have said before on my channel that I am fully aware of the connection fans have with their idols especially when they find them during dark times in their lives as many of us do. I really got into k-pop in a very dark part of my own life so I completely understand that connection that you are talking about, and it can be harmful when others judge without knowing the situation. And also I'm so sorry to hear about you being bullied. No one deserves that, and I promise it does get so much better especially if you find things that interest you like you said Twice have. I love Twice btw great taste in groups

      example: acting like you know them personally (mainly when meeting said idol), putting kpop before yourself/ life, acting like you’re better then everyone else because you like the idol, and many other toxic behaviors.

Most of us buy the cds but we can't listen to cds everywhere lol, I can't even do it on my computer. Same for youtube, impossible to listen when the app is closed. Spotify basically is a service we pay for to be able to listen to music everywhere, they definitely own us if they sell streaming for music and we paid for it. This whole "nobody own u anything" is going too far lol, if you paid for a legal service then yes they do.

    27:22 I totally agree with this part... but that’s also the reason why I can’t agree with the opinion on “awards should be chosen by fans”... I don’t want a group of people playing as god of music to choose the award either, but awards based in popularity/ voting can give groups that are less popular HUGE disadvantages. For the same quality of music, they get the recognition they deserve as popular groups but if they aren’t, they just don’t get the recognition they deserve and that sucks...

    • @KookiesNolly
      @KookiesNolly Před 2 lety +3

      yeah like to me it's not recognition if you know it's just a popularity contest. It's not actually a compliment to your artistry because your popularity isn't solely based on that and we know for a fact that fans vote for their faves even when they didn't really enjoy the work they put out. I feel like for an artist it would make them feel even more hallow if all they got as "recognition" was based on that. That's also why i think BTS like most artists care about the Grammys. Because it's SUPPOSED to be about just the art, not a popularity contest. BBMAs are based solely on numbers and you don't see them getting as hyped about it as they do for the grammys. They already know they sell well, they know they have a lot of fans, so it looses its meaning after a while. However they haven't felt complimented as much for their work by their peers around the world. I bet they don't feel equal to those american artists who got that recognition for that reason, even if they sell better. It's silly cause the grammys aren't about art and i'm sure they themselves know that, but we still care about it, or at least artists still tho, otherwise they wouldn't present their work, attend the ceremony and perform and the grammys wouldn't exist at all. so i think to them, it's about feeling equal to those people who receive recognition from other artists. That's not what MAKES them good artists, but the feeling of validation is nice. Feeling recognized by your fellow artists, who know the work and respect the work, often means more to artists than being recognized by fans who have a parasocial relaitonship with them or the general public. Like have you seen people reacting to receiving compliments from Beyonce? XD

    • @biubiubiu5265
      @biubiubiu5265 Před 2 lety +1

      @@KookiesNolly yes you're right! and that gives me a whole new perspective! While artists for sure appreciate the support of fans, sometimes getting recognition from professionals really can mean something else… I feel that for artists who put hard work into their music it can feel really hollow when they know that fans support their music just because they are their favs. As if all the effort is unnecessary since fans will support anyways. It's good to see some fans doing somewhat professional or reflective analysis on the artist's work nowadays, talk about which part they like and really appreciate the music/performance itself. I also feel that it is necessary for artists especially younger ones to constantly get opinions from their peers so that when their talent is overstated by fans due to popularity (that happens so often), they don't get lost in that and find a good way to improve themselves continuously.

    Boy bands have always been big in the west. BUT, there have rarely been more than one or two thriving in the western market at a time. While One Direction was ruling over the industry, 5 Seconds of Summer and The Vamps struggling to get much traction. Once One Direction disbanded, an existing boy band or a new one needed to step up and take over that part of the industry. We had Why Don’t We, Pretty Much, CNCO, etc. but the public gravitated towards BTS. They were slowly gaining traction. And in 2017/2018, we saw a huge shift in the market. Both One Direction and Fifth Harmony disbanded. The western industry needed a group to fill in the boy band and girl group check box. BTS and Blackpink were becoming very popular in the west (especially through the songs DNA and As Is It’s Your Last). If 1D and FH hadn’t disbanded, BTS and BP would still be popular, but nowhere near as popular as they currently are.
    And no, I’m not saying that “BTS and Blackpink took advantage of that fact to take over the world”. It was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. As much manipulation that goes on in the industry, music can’t be controlled by people. Musical taste can’t be controlled by people. It flows freely like its own being without an restrictions. And the industry gravitated towards KPop once it needed a new bg and gg. And I’m absolutely not saying that either BTS or Blackpink was undeserving of their success. They deserve every follow, subscription, view, cent, etc.
    And you can definitely compare the two despite having different concepts. The point of a boy band is a group of attractive men who appeals to a large, young, female audience. It’s been proven that young girls are the most impulsive when it comes to spending money. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Boys To Men, The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, One Direction, etc. all fit into the general category of a boy band even though none of them are similar to each other. At the end of the day, it a group of attractive men who young girls go crazy over and are willing to sell all of their possessions to support these artists.

    Considering how huge the anger and the disappointment of armys was, trust me when I tell you that not even 5% of them sent hate to ariana. If you were on twitter you'd see we had all kpop fans and locals coming after us and till this day ridiculing BTS for not winning that grammy. BTS can not have even 1 minute of peace. So pls stop painting ARMYS always as the bad guys.

    • @katerinarose
      @katerinarose  Před 3 lety +35

      Firstly, thank you for sharing your opinion on my video and watching it. That means a lot that you listened to what I had to say. I read what you said, and I can understand what you mean and where you are coming from but I'd like to say that its not and never has been my intention to paint ARMYs as the bad guys. I say it all the time but I have been an ARMY for 8 years since their debut in 2013, and BTS is and always will be my ult group. I'm aware that the majority of armys were not sending hate to Ariana. My overall experience being in this fandom has been a pretty positive one, and I've met some great people. BUT, I am on twitter quite a lot and I did see a few armys on my time line and under Ariana's posts that were being extremely toxic. Every fandom has a toxic part to it and ARMY is not an exception to that. BTS has so many fans that I would be surprised if there weren't a few toxic ones. I made that statement calling them out because I feel it is necessary. We get way more hate from locals than we give and I'm fully aware of that, but let's be honest locals aren't going to watch my video so talking about them won't change them or their opinions full of hate. But, I believe a LOT of armys will see this video, and if even one of the younger or more toxic fans sees this and changes their ways and stops this hatred and toxicity then I feel that making that statement is worth it. I don't think that locals want to change. People will always hate on what's popular, so you'll never have any kind of peace. But, I know that armys are a good, kind, loving fandom that can change, so if there is a toxic army out there I believe that their behavior should be called out so they can grow. I'm a part of this fandom and love BTS and ARMY with my whole heart, but it is because I love and am a part of ARMY that I feel it is important to tell people when they are being a bit much. Overall, thanks for watching and I'm sorry if I made you upset in any way. That's never my intention. I want to build a safe and kind community!

    • @livialiviaa4367
      @livialiviaa4367 Před 3 lety +28

      @@katerinarose I understand when you say locals will not watch this video. But Kpop fans will definitly watch this right? They've already given us the reputation as the most toxic fandom. And if you, an ARMY, decice to call out onlyyy one part of the problem what does it leave us with??? Yes, more and more kpopies coming after us and cementing this narrative they've given us as some vile people who didn't get what we wanted and now we're throwing fists. I am on stan twt all the time, pretty close to 24/7 and since you're telling me that you also stay on twt, you'd know for sure how locals and kpopies, I insist kpopies, have dragged BTS through the mud but when ARMYS clapback the victimization starts. You said it yourself, we are the biggest fandom and it's inevitable you'll find bad apples in there. But that's not only what it is to Armys. Ihaven't watched any video mention all our charitable work, our dedication, our compasion, or standing up for any injustice, even when it's not about BTS (let me remind you the case of Jisoo from BP on Jimmy Kimmel).
      So if you want to put an end to something, if you wanted this to be fair, you'd call out both parts. Armys and kpopies. By painting only ARMYS as the bad ones (that's what you get from the video) you are siding with kpopies.
      And this, coming from you an ARMY for such a long time as you said, is very sad, really really sad knowing very well what we and BTS have been through.

    • @katerinarose
      @katerinarose  Před 3 lety +20

      @@livialiviaa4367 I didn't call out one part of the problem. Please don't be ignorant. I literally dedicated 30+ minutes of this video dedicated to defending BTS and explaining to everyone watching why ARMY were upset that they didn't get the grammy. I have also dedicated countless other videos defending BTS and ARMY from other toxic K-pop fans by pointing out that I believe that BTS has been one of the groups that has had it the hardest in the industry and managed to make it big and that makes me so proud of them and us as a fandom. I have and will continue to call out k-pop fans that start fanwars or talk trash on ARMY for no reason, BUT I will also call out ARMY when they are doing stupid shit. I have called out countless other fandoms it just wasn't in this one video. NO ONE is exempt from criticism and that includes ARMY. As I said I have been with BTS since debut and I have been there through all the hardships and I have also seen Armys be great people. They usually are, and most videos on CZcams talk about that. There are many videos pointing out how they donate to charities, and important organizations, and really started out at a bankrupt company and built their way up. I've been a K-pop fan for over a decade even before BTS debuted, so I understand the fandoms and relationships between them better than almost any new fans. People don't like ARMY because they do shit like this where they act like they can't be criticized because every local already hates on them. Everyone in the public eye will be criticized. Does that make the hate ARMYs get justified? No. I get very angry when people send hate or death threats to ARMY or BTS. I have and will continue to call those locals and other k-pop fans out. But I choose to make this video about fighting something that I think is more important than fandoms or locals, and that was institutionalized racism against asians. I threw in the criticism of ARMY sending death threats to Ariana which I saw a good amount of. I wouldn't even call those people ARMY. Because BTS would never want their fans to send hate and threats like that. I try and look at all sides when making my videos, and my final conclusions was that ARMYs get the largest amount of hate, but they are also the biggest fandom who constantly do good things for things like BLM, other artists, donations, etc. I'm aware people use BTS and ARMY for clout much like the Grammys did here. I say that in many of my videos. I choose to also call out people in the fandom that I am proud to be a part of who I feel like are being complete dumbasses. This is one of those times. So, I'd ask you not to perpetuate this narrative that I might be anti-ARMY or should be ashamed of calling out ARMYs for doing stupid shit because I won't be. I would call out my own family members if they were sending death threats, so I did it here. I don't just hold others to high moral standards. I hold myself and all other ARMYS, BLINKS, ONCES, Monbebes, etc. to that standard. I understand that you don't want this narrative that ARMYs are the worst to be passed around, and I agree with you. I feel the same way, but that want doesn't stop me from saying that sending death threats and hate is wrong. As I said in the video, if we should hate anyone its the Grammys academy for continuing to perpetuate racism in an already extremely racist America. Hope this explains my point of view better for you.

As I said, I am on stan twitter a lot and there is not a single day that passes without me reporting ARMY account that send hate not only to other artists but also to fans as well. Yes they might be part of my fandom, but I have morals that I'm not willing to lose for strangers on the internet, even though they might be ARMYS. As I said there are toxic people everywhere. You might have called out kpopies and BTS antis before and I thank you for that but not everyone is going to check your other videos to see if you have done it or not. Just like me, other ARMYS or kpop fans might come across this video and what we get from it is you just calling out ARMYS for sending death threats as if others were being angels towards BTS. The topic was Grammys so I just wanted you to be fair not with ARMYS no, but with BTS, cuz both them and Ariana were the ones affected by all this hate and fanwar circulating after Grammys. Yes BTS deserved that Grammy but they didn't deserve all the hate and ridiculing they got after not winning.

    About the BTS filling the 1D gap, i kinda agree with this point in particular. BTS did not become popular because 1D disbanded (which i also dont think this is what op meant) but a huge chunk of their fans did become BTS fans. It’s not about similar concepts or anything it was like OP said, people were attracted to the group dynamics and the behind the scenes that are readily accessible to Koop fans compared to western artists (and of course their music). And i think OP said BTS wont be replaced was because fans who are just into bts and not Koop in general often act like any casual fan of a western artist (like you wont see someone stanning Justin Bieber because he is in the same company as Ariana lol) whereas Kpop fans tend to find other groups to stan once their ult group declines in popularity.

The fans of the said artists that went against grammys are definitely going to support them but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to reach to you as a big new or make a big change just like armys reacting to Grammys isn’t going to make a big impact on those not involved. I am only 13 years old and I can’t ask my parents to buy subscription for any other music streaming platform so Spotify is very convenient for me. When the K-pop songs went from there I was so upset. About the award thing: From my experience it does mean a lot to artists to get awards from musical experts like at the Grammy's. Remember that these people aren't random ones from the street, but either brilliant artists themselves with inside knowledge or music experts that have a huge knowledge of music history, genres and production, so artists want to get their approval (they already see fans' approvalby streams etc.)!
    Also the Taylor disrespect is not it 😂 Her collab with Bon Iver is in no way Yeehaw music but actually incredible, my favorite song nominated by my favorite artist ever ✌🏻

      I agree with you buuuuut... The commitee isn't actually full of people preoccupied with art, like a lot of them aren't music experts at all. It's just about money moves. It's not like for the Oscars where actors of the academy vote for best actor, directors vote for best director etc. because that is real recognition from your peers who know the art and, even tho there's also money moves involved, the Oscars today is way more ethical and artistically driven then the grammys which means the bar is very low. The grammys ON PAPER are about art, not popularity, and that means a lot for artists. But in practice...
      Also Exile wasn't a pop song, I don't even know why it was nominated there. Rain on me and Dynamite deserved to be in the same category, but putting exile their is riduclous! the album is called folklore for a reason! that's how you know the grammys aren't about art, they can't even tell genres apart. They do this all the fucking them! Remember when they said Bruno Mars's 24K Magic album was a rap album? They put it alongside Kendrick Lamar's DAMN! if this ain't the grammys way of calling them the n-word I don't know what it is man, cause what those two albums have nothing in common other than the fact that those guys can be perceived as black (bruno isn't black, but most people, especially the white racists, don't know that)!!!

    Ok I'm very late but I found your channel recently and I really like your videos. I wanted to give my opinion on the first opinion because I think it ties into bigger issues with kpop's apparent "westernization" and specifically western stans entitlement and hypocrisy, because let's be real here, they are the only ones complaining about this subject :
    I will never for the love of me understand why english versions of songs or english songs are so controversial when Kpop has been making Japanese version of everything for the longest time and nobody gives a fuck. In my opinion, the existence of japanese songs in kpop makes pretty much every argument against english songs mute cause 99.99999% of the time the people using those arguments to complain about english songs never use them when it comes to japanese songs when it's the same concept :
    - both are a form of pandering to get on another market. The japanese music market is the 2nd biggest music market in the world, just after the american one. Why is it so bad to pander to the 1st market for money, but the second one it's ok? Kpop is an industry! the companies are in it for the cash. Even if the idols do genuinely love those songs, if it didn't make money the companies wouldn't allow them to waste studio time on it and wouldn't promote it either. Those songs and albums exist because the company can make money off of them. Period. If you only care about pandering when it's pandering to pretty much the west in general, not just america, but don't say shit when it's pandering towards Japan, you are a hypocrite.
    - I especially hate those who make those stupid "they are pandering to the colonizers" joke. It's so tone deaf, insulting and ignorant. JAPAN COLONIZED KOREA! THEY COMMITTED ATROCITIES THEY WON'T EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR! Meanwhile SK and the US have been allies, ever since the US (and USSR) defeating Japan led to the liberation of Korea. The fact that Japan and SK even do business this much is astonishing! There was even a long period in SK where Japanese products were banned, and every now and then they argue oversome historical event and the companies making products exported between those two get caught in the mess. that's how much their relationship is complicated. Not saying that there's no issue with the way the US treats SK, bc American imperialism is a really problem but so is/was Japanese imperialism and it had a much greater impact on SK. So again, if you don't care about japanese releases that are pretty much designed for one country that colonized them, but loose your shit over english releases that have a great international appeal because English is a global language, not just an american one, and use politics to justify your bs, you're extra ridiculous.
    - it also cracks me up when I hear non-korean speakers complain about the english sounding weird, so they don't want those songs. Bc I know korean and japanese speakers who have said that kpop korean and japanese songs often sound weird or cringy to them. I listen to a lot of Jpop/rock and speak Japanese to an extent and those kpop japanese songs often feel like... well... a japanese person wouldn't sing things this way. Like... japanese and korean sound EXTREMELY DIFFERENT, so they tend not to fit as well in the same melodic structure and for a trained ear, it's often noticeable. Japanese people often don't write melodies the way koreans do for that matter. So, this specific argument really comes down to "i prefer when i don't understand what they are saying as i listen to it, so i don't actually notice any potential awkwardness" and it cracks me up.
    - Plus it's also worth mentionning that Japanese songs don't negate korean ones. Most groups still make more korean content, and put out some japanese on the side. Nobody ever worries about groups abandoning "their roots" or the korean market bc they made a japanese song or album, but I always see this feedback at least once when an english song is released. Like... since when do korean idols even have a solid foot in the american industry to do that? Major Canadian artists like Bieber only do that bc of the proximity, both geographically and culturally, with the US but Korea doesn't have that. It's such a silly concern bc there is no sign of kpop groups being able to rely on America the way Canadians rely on the US AT THEIR PEAK. It just sounds like silly (almost racist/fetishistic) gatekeeping when it happens with english songs but not Japanese songs. Especially when having a hit song in Japan isn't insignificant bc again... 2nd biggest music market in the world.
    All in all, if you've already accepted japanese versions, songs and albums, there is no logical reason to reject english once. I'm not talking abot personal taste here. I'm saying if you don't complain abo tthe existence of japanese songs, even is you don't like them, there is no reason to complain about the existence of english ones. Both happen for business but both can also be a genuine desire from a artist. Saying that japanese should have a special place in kpop but not english, even though there are japanese AND American, australian, canadian idols in the industry is HIGH KEY racist to me. Like you just like to put all the asian stuff together, expect korean to be chill with japan and every other asian country just by virtue of being asian too? Korea doesn't owe other asian countries representation, they don't have to limit themselves to just YOUR PERCEPTION of what Asia is or should be (bc english is also spoken in asia and english songs are already popular there, in korea and all over the continent, so i really don't know what the westerners are mad about).
    It's also very funny how, it's westerners, especially americans that have the most to say about how koreans use their own language in their art. Stay in your lane! you don't get to define for them what constitute their culture and identity or how to represent their country internationally. For any non-korean person to comment on korean entertainers "losing their koreanness" is highly problematic, and y'all seriously need to stop doing that, when koreans themselves don't have nothing to say on the subject.

    that spotify opinion is so-
    of course the 2 companies don't owe us anything but a lot of us use spotify as our main streaming platform, it's one of the most easy to use and affordable streaming platforms offered to international fans. also we don't only listen to kpop and if the agreement had never been fixed a lot of us would have been forced to move elsewhere like apple music despite us also still wanting to enjoy spotify for western acts etc. it would have been an inconvenience to use one app for kpop and another for western music so most of us would've ended up just switching over to a new platform altogether and this would have affected both spotify and the companies and artists involved. also this whole issue really affected the more underrated artists, spotify has playlists dedicated solely to new kpop songs etc and it gives the more underrated artists some good promo. I'm glad the agreement was solved however I don't agree with that persons opinion at all, kpop fans were rightfully angry and so were artists considering their music was removed without them even being told. also the whole thing to begin with was just ignorant af to international fans, kakao m took kpop music off spotify yet they make the melon app basically IMPOSSIBLE to use for ifans. make it make sense lol.

    BTS wasn’t going to win a Grammy. I knew that from the second that they were nominated that it was to get Armys and Kpop fans to watch the show. They’re going to drag along BTS and nominate them every year just to keep the Grammys relevant. Once BTS declines in popularity or disbands, the Grammys will go back to seeing KPop as a fad, a novelty, something to not be taken seriously. It’s all about industry politics. Until BTS builds more connections in the western industry (which they seem to be because HYBE and SBP are starting to collaborate), they’re going to struggle. These industry politics are the reason why Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have yet to win a Grammy. They’re why “Without Me” by Halsey and “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd didn’t even get nominations. THEY’RE THE REASON WHY FREAKING “YUMMY” (SINGLE) BY JUSTIN BIEBER WAS NOMINATED AND “SAWAYAMA” (ALBUM) BY RINA SAWAYAMA DIDN’T EVEN GET TABEL SCRAPS. So yeah, please don’t overly emphasize the importance of the Grammys or any awards. If you’re supporting your faves (streaming their songs, watching their vids, buying their merch, etc.), that’s all that they need. The Grammys are trash and we shouldn’t rely on them for validation.

    As a Beatles fan, I would say that The Beatles were technically a boy band at the start, but around 1964, around A Hard Day's Night time, they turned into a four-man rock band. The debate whether The Beatles are a boy band is not a clean-cut answer, you would either say they were never a boy band, or you would say they were the first boy band. I lean towards the 'not a boy band' answer more but I can understand why people would say they were a boy band at first. The Monkees, which would not exist without The Beatles, are no doubt a boy band.

    I will onlyreally comment about the award situation, kinda agreed with most of the rest. For me i do not really agree that awards should be mostly based on public voting, that is what especially in south korea where smaller companies gets pushed down alot. Most people voting in music shows does not actually vote on which song was the best made song that year but rather which song was made by my fav no matter how much they might have liked that song. Public is inherently bias. From my point of view it should be a combintion of public vote and expert votes (experts who have high knowlege and understanding of music). This is for taking away some of the public vote bias, but also taking publi votes or streams into consideration because it also means alot. For me expert votes means more because they know generally more about good music than the public does.

    Some English versions are amazing (Regular - NCT, Hwaa - Gi-Dle, etc.). But some are... yikes... And I’m okay with fully English albums from idols who’re native speakers. Look at the Australian line (Rosé of Blackpink and Bang Chan/Felix of Stray Kids). They’d feel more comfortable singing in English. I think that once BTS and Blackpink lose popularity and KPop isn’t as big in the mainstream US market anymore, Korean will go back to the primary language that KPop songs are written in.

Not many US artists writes lyrics like BTS does,i used to listen to western music till 2018 started after that i became a kpop fan and i have heard a lot of western sings and most of the songs were about s*x, dr**s and etc. Their were only few songs that were about loving yourself or about not giving up in your life. I only really listen to the English version of nct songs, especially regular. Even if the English version is good I usually prefer the original

    I don’t consider myself an ARMY and I hate the Grammys as much as you. That being said… BTS’s Butter for Grammy nomination in 2022 🙏🏻 I feel like that song was so much better than Dynamite anyways

    Who is really surprised that BTS didn't win the grammys? Not me. AMERICAN people of color with songs in ENGLISH are snubbed out of nominations let alone wins at the grammys and you expect a SOUTH KOREAN group to win? i really want bts to win a grammy, but America is too racist for that. should we stop trying? no. that'll only let the racists whites win, but you have to accept reality and see that things like this are a possibility. American artists have been "exposing" the grammys since it was created almost a century ago and the rest of the world is only now acknowledging it. don't think that just because bts are popular that they'll be an exception.

    Yeah but fan popularity is bullshit because the bigger fandoms are always going to win the award for their artist. Even if their artist makes objectively shit music.

    The Spotify thing is a bit different than what u think. U said ppl who pay should be given what they pay for, music. If I agree if Spotify was a platform to buy music. It isn't. It's a streaming platform. Ur paying to stream. Artists don't make money from your streams. If u wanna buy the music, u have to buy the music.

    I’m late. But how has BTS impacted the music industry? Next to Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston ?? BTS will be known for being an insanely populate group, but they haven’t altered the landscape for music in general. They aren’t doing anything profound with their music. Nothing about their music is new, or classic, or shaping a new mold. It’s pop music.They’re just REALLY popular internationally. They’re not even known generally for their music compared to music legends like Prince, MJ, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, Beyoncé. They will definitely be remembered, but not in the musical sense.

    Agree with you on all points and I'll say it: Rain on Me should NOT have beat Dynamite for the Grammy last year. I was honestly shocked. They will win this year I predict. They're so so so overdue, a win this year will make up for their snubs since 2015.... sort of. 💜

    I used to agree with the last big boy band thing but there will always come somene bigger no mattet what,
    when the beatles were thriving NOBODY thought that there would be a boy band as big, then 1D came, broke big records similar to TB,
    and when 1D ended everyone thought that was it for a successful boy band. BUT THEN BTS

    I'm an ARMY but I disagree with your BTS point, the only reason they got a chance in America is because 1D were gone. 1D were the BTS of pop groups and absolutely dominated the scene, no other groups came lose,some tried like The Wanted but because 1D were so big thy didn't really stand a chance. If 1D didn't disband they'd be even more popular now and what happened to The Wanted would've happened to BTS, they would've been overshadowed and overlooked. They would've been pretty popular but nowhere where as popular as they are no and to deny that is kinda delulu, that's just how the music industry works when a popular group/artist retires, starts to change their music style, gets in a scandal, passes away, etc people will look for a replacement and someone else will take that person's place after they go, this has been happening for literal decades in the West and in k-pop, I don't know why BTS are suddenly different. It's not a bad thing, it was their lucky break, but 1D disbanding *was* a huge part of why they became so popular. Bighit may not have been targeting an American audience at the start but once they started to get popular in America they switched and started to change their music,marketing and image to fit the American/western standard.
    I don't think Dynamite should've won over Rain on me, nor Black Swan. Rain on me was a huge, really good song (objectively better than Dynamite, lets not lie, I don't really like either but come on) with two already established singers .It had nothing to do with racism, just Dynamite not being the better song.
    If Dynamite won, it wouldn't have represented K-pop, it was an English/westernised song not really a K-pop song, it would've set a bad message that you an only win if you sing in English.

      Well first of all you don't think black swan is better than rain on me ??? Like did you even hear the song
      And 1 direction disbanded in 2015, bts was by no means that popular back than like how they are now and by your logic wouldn't exo be the one to replace 1d since they were really popular back than

    What I don’t get is how everyone says the Grammys are racist or anything after bts doesn’t win.. like it’s an AMERICAN program that has been based in AMERICA for like sixty years I think, and what types of music are popular here? Pop music and Spanish music… not kpop 🤨 just bc they have dynamite or butter doesn’t mean they aren’t kpop…. And a LOT of the people that like bts (notice how I’m not saying all!!) are young and not even adults while these judges are adults who each have their own taste… Ik that MOST of the young kpop fans now (like me) will grow out of this and I’m not saying that we all will but a lot of us aren’t gonna care for kpop by the time we’re 25 even… and I also feel like calling the Grammys racist for not giving the Grammy to bts is not only dumb but very hypocritical considering how that is ONE action that isn’t racist while what has bts done?? Hmm let’s check!! Oopsie.. looks like they’ve done some very bad things…. Like that could be yet another reason why they didn’t win like idk who the team is but I’m assuming (and hoping bc it’s not just like 2 people) that there are black people on that team and if they know abt bts and what they don’t care to cover but somehow do, do you think they’re gonna be like “hm! That makes me like this song more! Let’s give the Grammy to them”??? And YES Americans DO think that armys are scary bc someone can just say that they don’t really like dynamite and armys will start trending stuff like “cancel blank” or “protect bts” in an hour on Twitter.. and I’ve said this countless times but why would someone decide to name a fanbase army? If your calling your fans an army then Idek atp. “Well would u rather be called a boat?” YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES I’D RATHER BE CALLED A HARMLESS FORM OF TRANSPORTATION THEN BE AN ARMY OF ALL THINGS 🙏 literally the equivalent to a cult

    random opinion: i dont like award shows because they are so biased, there some more groups that deserve more than the group that won (sometimes), its just usually a popularity award. bts only wins because of armys, i personally did not like bts' music this year. yet they still won? next level, stereotype, and 0X1=Lovesong deserved more. they had to win at least one this year. i hope they get random netizens to rank the songs instead of same people who are biased armys every year. its always bts and its getting boring. (im not tryna hate them, i myself is an army), i dont think they deserved some awards, and the "bts paved the way" is getting old we know bts already paved the way, and twitter is so toxic, esp some toxic armys. i hope they improve the award shows, and let the artists who deserve it win.
    edit: this essay was all over the place lol

    I’m sorry but if the Grammys are unfair bc they’re biased then what abt like music shows? If bts it nominated (and they will be unless it’s like the first week or whatever the rule is) then they’re gonna win… anything that people can vote on will have bts as the winner so really the Grammys shouldn’t mean much to y’all and if y’all cared sm, why did u decide that it’s useless anyway? Like “oh I need my shoes so I can walk outside… oh I don’t have shoes?! They’re so useless anyway” 🤨
