SINGAPORE - Today Iâm hanging out with the one and only KF Seetoh, a legend of Singapore street food and hawker culture. Weâre going to take you on a born and bred food tour of Singapore - dishes that were invented right here in Singapore.
Here are all the places we ate at in this Singapore food tour:
Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hoon (goo.gl/maps/Cn3hg4Dp89PpVXLW8) - First we headed to Bukit Merah, also known as Red Hill. Itâs a huge neighborhood complex, market and hawker center. Thereâs a massive selection of food to choose from, but KF Seetoh took me first to eat satay bee hoon, or thin angel hair vermicelli covered in seafood and pork, and a ladle of creamy peanut sauce.
Hong Seng Curry Rice (goo.gl/maps/Tg4ni8cCrVHrBWz67) - Within the same Red Hill hawker centre youâll find Hong Seng Curry Rice, where you can enjoy another popular Singapore street food - Hainanese curry rice.
Geylang Lorong 29 Hokkien Mee (goo.gl/maps/w8TWfRXN7XpqPhwWA) - Continuing on this food tour we drove over to Geylang to eat one of the best versions of Hokkien fried prawn mee, a stir fried noodle dish thatâs one of the most beloved in Singapore. They make it by the batch and we had the chance to see the entire process of how itâs made. Delicious!
The Original Vadai (goo.gl/maps/TtSg9iY3cbHgPd9r5) - Next up over to Joo Chiat to eat at the Original Vadai - a Sri Lankan origin - yet transformed in Singapore to be more light and fluffy, totally different texture and flavor. They are so addictive and one of the best things about them is that you bite a green chili and then follow it with bites of the prawn vadai.
Sha Zah Confectionery (goo.gl/maps/fRaA3vQ4taggjDvJ8) - Finally to complete this food tour with KF Seetoh we headed over to Sha Zah Confectionery for their giant curry puffs. A perfect way to end this delicious Singapore street food tour!
Thank you again to KF Seetoh for taking me around. Be sure to follow his food adventures: / kfseetoh and if youâre in NYC, go eat at Urban Hawker center!

For those who don't know, KF Seetoh is a legendary street food critic in Singapore. He has really shine light on the traditional cooking methods and food culture, and guided the likes of Anthony Bourdain etc through his long career. I also personally respect that he does not put on airs or care about visuals the way other Singaporean food influencers do. He really cares 100% about the food.
Edited for grammar
ââŠ..Hey hey there you, who are you talking aboutâŠ.I know this man is a true talent and you can feel his true worth about how he cares & what type of individual he isâŠYou are soooooo correct & how I know I can feel itâ!!!! G-MOMMEE
I Agree đ
If he didn't go culinary school or master chef like Gordon then he isn't a food critic he's just a picky eater. In streets of course cuz he aint on my uncle Gordon's level.
@@beru7036 food critics dont have to go to culinary school kid...its called be objective about stuff not just "oh i dont like"
@@beru7036 i bet you haven't even went to one of his restaurants. stfu
Mark, you found the right guy to bring you around. KF Seetoh is a legend in Singapore!
Yes KF Seetoh is OG! Love watching his makansutra episodes back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
KF Seetoh is a homosexual!
Yes Lots of love to Mark From Nepal.
@James PoGo df
Alright you're gonna have to help me out here I totally don't understand this what's the weather
I lived in Singapore for 20 years total, all of the 90âs and then all of the 10âs. The place is food paradise for the intrepid, and kudos to Mark for celebrating it. And then you have the natural graciousness of Singaporeans. Itâs a tiny island with a big international foot print. Everyone must go there.
The way KF Seetoh took over video production đ....a legend and a super nice guy!
With KF Seetoh you would never go wrong. Heâs the one who can bring you to eat the best food in Singapore.
He does .. as if our queue not long enough.. during lunchtime
Love the fact that he's able to give us the history behind all the Singapore favorites. He was also a friend of Anthony Bourdain if you Bourdain fans may recall.
The stories behind each dish makes everything more special!
Miss Tony Bourdain so much!!!!
@@maymay4847 where is he now?

Such a joy to watch KF Seetoh. His passion for the local food scene. The way he celebrates the hawkers and food stall owners. Couldn't stop smiling the entire video. 29:48 was touching. Love the guyâ€ïžâ€ïž
Thank you so much, fully agree, KF Seetoh has unparalleled passion for Singapore hawker culture!
Food looks soo good! I quit my job to travel Asia! đđ
@@MarkWiens you missed our char kway teow style also our laksa
Glad that Mark chose to work with SeeToh, someone who has lived the 70s/80s, someone who has tasted and knows how authentic Singapore Street/Hawker Food in the 70s/80s were like, and how they were authentically prepared and the ingredients originally used in that era.......things that young food bloggers know nuts about.
This gentleman, Seetoh made this video a DELIGHT. Usually I watch everything you do expecting your take on certain foods. This man had amazing knowledge of EXPRESSLY Singaporian dishes....and it was extraordinary. Thank You!
Thank you so much KC!
KF Seetoh IS the go-to guy for all your Singaporean dishes. He has been reviewing and exploring the Singaporean food scene for the longest time and deserves more than a pat on his back for his efforts đȘ
You found the right man to introduce Singapore hawker food. He is an icon to local food and has been pushing hard to promote the industry.
Incredible job on that video! He is an icon to local food and has been pushing hard to promote the industry. I think you found the right man to introduce Singapore hawker food. I saved almost 90% on my flights using Mighty âđ» Travels đ€đ» Premium.
Love this series. Seetoh a true Singaporean ambassador.
As a Singaporean I'm so glad to see KF Seetoh introduce all the food in less well-known (not the chinatown complex, hong lim or golden mile) hawker centres that's locally loved!
Yes it's off the tourist tracks. Nothing can be more Singaporean.
Thank you Alexis!
This is beautiful
Thank you so much, Mark and Seetoh. Singapore food culture is rich and diverse as we have Chinese, Malay, Indian, Peranakan and Eurasian cuisine to choose from. It is a joy to see food vlogger like you spreading positivity unlike Malaysian's Uncle Roger/Nigel Ng who insults SG food and other people for views (I support food vlogger Mike Chen after learning what that opportunist did to him).
Totally. Only Singapore has such diversed food. Let's not forget hawkers food are only found in Singapore and is now recognized as UNESCO treasure.
@@jaysmith5338 Malaysia has even more diversed food.
salty M'sian coming in 3.. 2.. oh wait they're already here
Not only recognised by UNESCO, our hawker food are also awarded Michelin Star and Michelin Bib Gourmand. In fact, our hawker centre concept is also copied by a certain neighbouring country.
Can someone tell me the name of the hawker center and location pls. Thanks!
KF Seetoh not only introduces you to the tasty singapore cuisines, he even gives you a history lesson on the origins of each individual food.
Seetoh is a joy to watch! Knows his stuff for sure.
Lies again? Nintendo Switch
i love how uncle seetoh just goes in the stalls like nobody's business because he's a living legend xD
KF's passion for food and love for preserving Singaporean food culture is infectious. I hope there's more to come!!
is there roasted soy bean drink like those in taiwan?
singapore is fukienese like taiwanese
I love watching him because he is funny, down to earth, unpretentious and eloquent.
I am new to Mark's video's as I am planning on visiting Singapore next year and wanted to see what the food was like - really informative and interesting and the food and the city of Singapore looks out of this world. Mark's enthusiasm makes you want to see them again and you can practically taste the food. I cannot wait until next year...
As a Singaporean I feel happy that people actually remember that some foods were invented here!
Thank you Mark and Seetoh!
But someone claimed All Singapore food comes from Malaysia!!!??? NOT TRUE.
Haha c'mon 5 out of 5 weren't even invented in Singapore. U know the meaning of "invent" or not?
Yes I agree with you! All the food featured in this video are indeed invented in SG. Its insulting that some shameless people would claim and imagine otherwise.
@@BeeBee-nx9zi Yes shameless indeed. As always trying to claim credit.
@@nova8620 nice but mind sharing the place that invent the food?
I'm so impressed by Seetoh's introduction of all these MADE IN SINGAPORE dishes. Thanks to Mark for getting the right person. Respect to you both. đđ»đđ»
Done claimed. Well done lol
Thank you, KF Seetoh is incredibly knowledgable!

Mark I love the way your passion for food shows through you really inspire me, thank you so much hope you and your family are doing well
Itâs so good to watch you guys enjoy all these delicious foods and have fun doing it. â€
My first time "meeting" Mr. Seetoh. Such a gracious gentleman, who has spent enough time with these vendors so that there is mutual respect and kindness between. Based on this video, he surely has learned which vendors have delicious food, and have continued precious family traditions. This is top notch Mark!!
Watching this takes me right back to Anthony Bourdainâs episodes with KF Seetoh! My desire to sit on a plastic chair in a strange country and eat amazing food couldnât be higher!
Mr. Wiens I'm new to the channel but your kind smile and calm vibe is so welcoming and the food you review is so amazing. Thank you!
I love this guy's energy and entire demeanor
Seetoh is just like Mark, you both respect and cherish with great pride the "elders" way of cooking with techniques and patience to ensure the heritage of the dish is NOT lost!!! I absolutely love and respect your enthusiasm!!
I really like how Seetoh brought mark to taste delicacies from different races here in Singapore. Kudos for that!

Mark, my wife and I have booked ourselves a trip to Singapore in March 2023, Redhill Food Centre is now locked in. Thank you to you and Seetoh - the Singapore National Treasure(that's my opinion). Seetoh's impersonation of you was quite authentic. Apart from the in-depth research, knowledge and explanation, a touch of humour added to the whole video. Can't wait to get there.
hope you enjoy the stay! as a Singaporean try more hawker food! cheaper and nicer.. but more humid
Hey I went to that exact hawker center in 2019. Please please go with an empty stomach you will want to eat everything lol. They have a Malaysian stall that stays open till 3am down the far left side. They wrap the food in brown paper it's sooooo good. Fried pork over noodles đ€Żđ€Żđ€Ż
when u at redhill FC, do give the Nonya Chendol a try to....
Hope u had a good trip :) Redhill is one of my places of my childhood during school days. Iâm so glad u considered visiting this area. Please come back and visit Singapore again ^.^

KF Seetoh has the most soothing of voices.
seetoh is a local legend, guy used to write for the "new paper "about food reviews back in the day, i think he still does, had his own show called makansutra which went pretty well. and he also has a small area down by the esplanade that serves decent food called "gluttons bay"
i replayed this so many times.. such a delight and yes humility and humor

I don't know about KF Seetoh but you can see he acted and explained with lots of passion. It looks like he is a hard worker as well. Love when he promoted the Indian spice store, congratulated the shrimp snack owner, etc. Love this video, Mark.

Lived in Singapore for 5 years and eaten all of those foods. Man I miss Singapore, best city on the planet!!!đđ€©
Amazing tour guy's everything looked so delicious.
It has been 35 years gone by, but when I lived in Singapore I enjoyed some of the best seafood food available anywhere on the island. My wife and I would travel from the city to a small seaside area called "Pungol" for some of the very best seafood. On the menu was fried octopus, MeeGoring (my absolute favorite), and of course the BEST chilli crab on offer anywhere in Singapore ! While time has passed by, this area still offers traditional seafood dishes in a much more renovated relaxing location. While off the beaten path for most but the experienced eater, this are remains a culinory high point for us. I would hope that someday you might take my advice and travel off the beaten path to Pungol to experience such gourmet delicacies.
hmm punggol has changed a lot ,its no more the beaten path anymore
seafood i think you mean Punggol Promenade? its has a couple of seafood restaurants there. Punggol has gone through alot of changes and now looks like a very modern ( really nice ) neighborhood with waterways and parks going through! )
AhâŠ. The good old days of Punggol seafood when people have to drive to this deserted foresty but still often packed place for seafood, satay and beer. Always feels like an adventure for me when I was a kid to go there with the fam.
Hey Victor, glad this brings back some great memories, that sounds amazing!
Punggol has become mostly a residential area now......:( i guessed the seafood restaurants u had been to 35 yrs ago are long gone
Wow Seetho! How i used to watch his street food series on TV long before you tube came about...
