    1st, so when Phoenix presents the paper badge in order to fully complete his acusation, Godot counters by arguing that you need a witness in order to prove that Tigre impersonated Phoenix. Godot then asks the judge if he's prepared to take the stand, however the judge refuses to take the stand and so Phoenix is forced to find another way to corner Tigre. Now, disregarding the fact that Winston should've also been named as a witness and taken the stand, why is the judge allowed to just say no? Judges are forbidden from having any involvement in the cases they preside over as that would increase the chances of incorrect verdicts being passed down. Tigre made the judge a key part of the case by impersonating Phoenix, which means that the judge is comprimised and should therefor recuse himself from the case. The moment Phoenix presented that fake badge and Godot asked the judged if he wanted to take the stand, that should have been enough probable cause to put the case on pause, before then having every single person who was present be during the VERY 1st Maggey trial be taken to interogation in order to confirm weather or not Tigre was impersonating Phoenix. The judge refusing to testify feels like him realising that Maggey is actually innocent, but not wanting to speak up as that would destroy his own reputation and get himself in legal trouble due to his incompetence.
    2nd, I find the bluff involving the cyanide being in the medicine bottle really dumb. Like, what if Tigre, when he gave testimony about him being at the restaurant, he testified that he saw Maggey use a brown bottle to sprinkle cyanide in Elg's drink, but only found out it was cyanide when he died? Phoenix would absolutly be cooked. So why not have it so when he presents the medicine bottle, Phoenix argues that Tigre had no business toutching that bottle and that his fingerprints being there proves that Tigre was impersonating Elg, which he had no reason to do unless he was the 1 who caused his death and tried to hide that truth. We could even have Phoenix bluff by having him argue that the reason why the medicine bottle was found in the kitchen was because Armstrong was keeping it as insurence in the event that his role in the conspiracy got exposed, which then result in Armstrong playing along by agreeing to that theory in order to truely corner Tigre.
    3, the no pressing wily-nily rule still doesn't make any sence. Not only is Tigre a normal civilain, but he was also caught red handed assaulting someone and was also trying to destroy evidence. His excuse of him being late for a business meeting should not fly, because Gumshoe litaraly saw Tigre punch Phoenix and heared him order Armstrong to bring a lighter so he could burn the hospital bill.

    • @DerpyHiro
      @DerpyHiro  Před 7 měsíci +5

      Yea the pressing rule didn't make sense. It feels like they just did it to escalate the difficulty. It definitely would have been easier than the Stolen Turnabout if it didn't have that rule during Furio's testimonies

      @@DerpyHiro the no pressing wily-nily rule can really only work if the witness is a high level government official or if the judge is a member/leader of a conspiracy that player is tasked with exposing and so the judge is trying to hinder you as much as they legally can.

      What also doesn't make sense is that...well, Tigre is very dumb, but I doubt anyone could actually be that dumb. The moment he gets cornered with the bluff, he could have just said "I confess. I know about the real bottle because I really did impersonate this guy and it came up during the proceedings".
      Which would lead to a "ok, now what?"-situration because being a scam laywer does not automatically mean you are a murderer. Unless I missed/forgot something major that would definitively implicate him if he were the Phoenix Wright that lost the case a month ago. If nothing else, he has an excuse for why he would be a scam laywer even if he were innocent in the case, due to the whole "I need cash"-thing.

      @@lpfan4491 In the animai addaptation, when Tigre confesses that he knows that the cyanide came from the brown bottle, Phoenix points out that Tigre stated earlier that he has 0 connection with the case and argues therefor that Tigre knowing where the bottle comes from proves that he's the killer. Tigre counters by admitting that he DID imperosonate Phoenix in order to explain why he knows where the cyanide came from. Phoenix then asks Tigre why he was impersonating him and this results in Tigre panicking to the point of not awnsering the question and this then results in him breaking down and the judge ordering his immediat arrest.
      However, there is a plot-hole in the animai addaptation. Tigre was in the gallery when the 1st re-trial was in effect. Meaning he could easaly say upon being asked why he knows about the brown bottle by stating that he was in the gallery during the 1st re-trail. Yes, he would still have to deal with questions in regards to why he was in te gallery that day, but he can easaly awnser those questions by stating that Armstrong is 1 of his lenders and that he grew curious when he learned that 1 of his workers is on trail for murdering 1 of Tigre's other lenders.

    I think this case is enjoyable during the Viola and Tigre sections. Which is sadly like a third of the case.
    I thought the rest of the case was really boring. Trial one is basically just "no, it's the other way around" 4 times in a row.

    Fun fact, if you present Godots profile to Gumshoe, he explains the reason he didn’t show up on the first trial against the fake phoenix is because he knew it wasn’t him straight away.

    Fantastic video- I adore 3-3, so I was eagerly awaiting your review of it!
    I never put together the similarities with the other cases that you mentioned, with the hierarchal power dynamic (like the blackmail chain in 3-2,) and the themes of romantic relationships (like in, well, the entirety of T&T,) but that’s a really good observation. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the recurring theme of imposters/mistaken identity, though- that also came up in 3-2 and is very relevant for the last two cases, as well. I’m not sure if I’d call it my favorite AA game, but I really appreciate how thematically cohesive it feels, for the reasons listed above.
    Oh, and one other thing about 3-3 I appreciate is how it uses the Magatama from both a story perspective and a gameplay angle, too. Armstrong stealing the Magatama and Viola’s psyche-locks both stand out to me as really effective uses of it.

    • @DerpyHiro
      @DerpyHiro  Před 7 měsíci +5

      The impostor theme is one that I don't think about very often but it is certainly very relevant in Trials and Tribulations. Perhaps that's a another thing I can briefly cover when I review the final case.
      And I never really thought about the Magatama use in this episode but I agree that it was used well!

    • @greshitel_inc
      @greshitel_inc Před 7 měsíci +7

      And don't forget Gumshoe's psyche-lock. There's no story relevance in it, you can easily cut it out of the game, but... There's something charming about it.
      Like, everybody else would hide a very important secret that make the case looks different, and, on the contrary, there's little Gumshoe who just want to earn an extra dollar. UwU
      Furthermore, it is a nice addition to all that "money" theme throughout the case. And honestly, I've never thought about this theme, so it was interesting to discover.

    Yes, tigre impersonating phoniex is completely aubsurd, and yes, doesn’t really matter in the case,and yes you can argue the case would have been better without it,but MAN it’s just too damn funny. I can’t bring myself to hate it.

    To be honest, if there is one thing I love, about this trial, it's how *imposing* Furio is in court. This man is so powerful, he bends the very rules of the game to his will, turning presses into penalties!
    A lot of these criticisms are fair.

  • @Degdreams
    @Degdreams Před měsícem +1

    But... Kudo NEVER saw the victim in person. He only saw Tigre... ONCE. So its still dubious for him to differentiate the two. Like even if you present a picture, its believable that you wouldn't get all the details correct for someone you only saw once without a side by side comparison. And he only passively saw Tigre at that.

    I mean applying realism to EVERY aspect of ace attorney will drive you mad but yeah it’s pushing it a bit to expect that “pheonix “would never once have to show some sort of photo id to someone upon entering the courthouse or the detention center to speak with “his” “client”

  • @antibeachballsociety
    @antibeachballsociety Před 4 měsíci +6

    Despite how hard it is to suspend my disbelief with this case sometimes (like Tigre fooling the courtroom - I can believe the audience was confused but couldn't say anything, but no way Maggey and especially the judge would fall for that), and Kudo carrying some of that Case 3 Creep syndrome, there are some things about this case I do like. The opening to this episode is one of my favourites in the entire series, since Phoenix supposedly losing to Payne is a great hook and the music is an absolute bop. Gumshoe is also a delight and as usual and it was fun to see him throw hands

    For me this case is mid
    I dont hate it and i dont like it
    "It is just there" case in my opinion
    What I liked
    Furio tigre
    He is the best part of this case
    Funny and intimidating at the same time
    I like that gumshoe is competent(just a little bit) finally
    I liked all characters except Armstrong and Victor they were annoying and you spent too much time with them
    Now the thing I dont like
    Logic obviously
    I tend to focus on logic rather than comedy
    So yea this already made me kinda mad
    Also the Victor testimony you mentioned
    I noticed the same problem
    Idk but Godot quotes about Coffee and stuff was a bit too much
    I dislike how viola was underutulized in this case
    Such a shame
    Penalty system was a bit stupid and illogical
    With atmey it made sense but with furio it does not make sense
    I dont mind this gimmick but it should have been used when you crossexamine a very important person(politician for example) so from the story perspective it makes sense for you to be penalized
    Also about the confession trick
    Tigre could have gotten away with it if he confessed on being Maggey lawyer
    Sure he would be charged but impersonation is a lighter sentence than murder
    So for me this case is perfect 5/10
    Im just so indifferent about this case

    • @DerpyHiro
      @DerpyHiro  Před 7 měsíci

      Yea I thought about how Tigre could have admitted to being Maggey's lawyer to deal with the final trick.
      Ultimately, I think the issue is us not knowing what happened in the first trial. We don't even know what was presented in that first trial. Perhaps the brown bottle wasn't even presented yet before Tigre lost the case. That sounds strange but the bottle took a while to get presented in the legit case with Phoenix and Godot.
      However, the fact that we don't know weakens the final trick as the player could see an escape route for Tigre. I just gave this moment the benefit of doubt since I thought the idea behind using phony evidence against a phony individual was brilliant. The execution is not perfect but good enough for my standards
