That 2.7 turbo is awesome it's a beast Don't let the size fool you.
I can approved this message, I have one
Same
Same!! I love it
I’ve driven 5.3 a 6.2 and this 2.7 and this 2.7 is the beast for a daily
Id like to also approve of this message 😎 just got my 23’ n I couldn’t be any happier
Hey I currently have 28000 miles on my 22 crew cab 4x4 with a 2.7. It will do everything my 2018 with a 5.3 with better fuel economy. So far zero issues. Unlike my 5.3 with collapsed lifters at 60,000 miles. Luckily it was fixed under warranty but before you hate on the 2.7 take it for a drive. You do lose about 400 pounds towing but you gain almost 300 pounds payload.
I have the 23 can I use 87 or do you need to run premium
@@dylingodfrey4915 it takes 87 regular no premium needed
@@dylingodfrey4915I’ve found a little better MPG with higher octane, but like stated it isn’t necessary.
@@dylingodfrey4915
87 octane is all I use it is also the recommended fuel.
@@dylingodfrey4915they recommend 91 to get better gas mileage but yes you can use 87
430 ft pounds of torque says it all. ONLY 30 less than the 6.2 at 5k RPM, and ONLY 30 less than Ferds super godzilla 7.3.. built like a diesel with the internals and all this tugging power starts at 1500RPM!
I have a 2023 Silverado LT Trail Boss Z71, using it as a work truck 6500 k so far, ARE Cap on the back, I am old school V8 or V10 or diesel guy but I did my research, so far this 2.7 turbo is like a little Diesel engine, I am haling bed weight at about 950 LBS, and the rear of the truck started to sage some so I added air suspension to the rear to level back to factory ride, I am not heavy on the peddle and am averaging 19.4 MPG but with 93 Octane and I have found that this (for me anyway) runs best at 70 MPH on the highway cruise control, MD area, I did buy when we purchased the truck with the extended warranty Bumper to Bumper for 8 years because the engine is still so new (3rd gen) but honestly if I have no issues with this engine then I will purchase it again, changing times and technologies with vehicles and in the field as I see, hope this helps.
I actually just bought that truck. I don't tow anything, but I did need something to haul kayaks bikes and the random oversized items one may need along with my dogs. They love riding. I was about to purchase the Colorado, but it felt so small. This truck is perfect for someone like myself.
The Colorado Trail Boss is a midsize but it’s far from small, compare it to a 05 full-size Silverado, it’s not as wide but several inches taller ,thicker, funny you called it SO SMALL, it’s not to big, not to small just right, now a S10 or first gen Colorado is small! I think Silverados are just a little to big and gawky, but they still look good!
I have the 22 refresh custom trail boss with them 2.7 and I’m more than impressed with it. Though with the M/T tires you lose a little on the mpg .
My 2020 Trail Boss LT Z71 came with all leather, a BOSE sound system, LINE-X bed liner, power sunroof, and the power sliding rear window.
How much u pay
Great review !!! The engine is decent
Good review brother. After all I’m hearing about the 2.7, and test driving the 5.3, I think the 3.0 Duramax is the motor for me!
Me Too!
Love the interior 💯💪🏾💪🏾💯
Not only is it competent, but it is likely the best truck engine GM has thats not a diesel. See torque curve.
For contrast, the 2011 5.3 Silverado I had (ended up being an oil-eater) was rated at 315 HP and 335 ft./lbs. of torque and it ran fine. No this T-4 engine doesn't sound like a V-8 but it also hopefully won't have the internal engine issues the 5.3s had/have. It remains to be seen how they hold up through the years and miles.
Excellent detailed review
I think mentally the truck should have been a v6 with all of these features. I test drove a 2.7 and rented the v8, and I can feel the difference. th 2.7 seems fast and light on its feet, where as that v8 feels like its pulling a house. The truck i rented i loaded it with concrete until it started to drag the ground(Atleast 3000lbs) and that thing pulled like nothing. Me coming out of the 195hp v6 that 2.7 would be a big improvement.
I admit the 2.7 is pretty impressive. I gotta have my v8 tho
I drove both, idk man they both are fast . I get what u are saying but the v8 drove much smoother
@@randsp3c709 i ended up buying the 2.7 because none of the lots had v8s in my area. I ended up getting a great deal on my elvation, so I was forced to get it. So far its great. I maxed out at 28mpg on the highway and 22 in the city. Im not currently in the market to tow anything. so its doing its job.
this is a great 4 Cyl. engine with a diesel design we need to stop counting cylinders ,that 4cyl. is for trucks not sedans its totally different
It's a good setup. If you look close It's almost on par with the 6.6. The 8 speed does just fine to.
But there is a pay off for those big ole tires! Cruising at 80 in down pour rain and lots of snow! No slip!
I live in the mountains of wv I get 20to24 on mine
I like the middle screen but i prefer the analog gages
Hello.
I just bought this truck (Silverado 1500 LT 2FL Turbomax, 4x4) about 4 weeks ago, this car is beautiful, good, strong engine. I want to buy an RV but I don't know if this vehicle can tow an RV or not? If so, what is the maximum weight of an RV?
My Truck: Brand new 2024
Gvwr=7,000lbs.
Gcwr=14,500lbs.
Rgawr=38,000lbs.
Maxpayload=1,966lbs.
Curbweight=5,034lbs.
Conventional TWR=9,000lbs.
Max tongue weight=900lbs.
Gooseneck TWR=8,900lbs.
Max tongue weight=1,335lbs.
Gawr FRT=3,800lbs.
Gawr RR=3,800lbs.
Tire size:
FRT=RR=265/65R18 T. (rim 18x8.5J) SPA=265/70R17 S (rim 17x8J). Font=Rear=Spare=240 kPa, 35Psi.
So, Can my truck (GVWR=7,000lbs) tow an RV/Trailer with a maximum load of 9,000lbs?
If possible, please post more videos of the Silverado 1500 2.7l, 4-cylinder truck pulling an RV trailer.
Thanks
Creating this engine was not about fuel economy it was only about emissions. If you are buying it for fuel economy you are going to be disappointed
I'll take the one and only engine that doesn't come with cylinder deactivation.
Hi, at the end of the Video you talk about reliability of the 2.7 compared to the V8,you must be expressing an opinion rather than fact because the engine is pretty new and there is NO data to back up your OPINION.
I think it's generally safe to say the more complex a design is the less reliable it will be. Also it's been proven the more power you try to squeeze out of a small engine will negatively effect engine longevity. The V8 is an old school engine. Very basic they will last 200000 miles or more with basic upkeep. Look at Ford. The V8 5.0 outlasts any eco boost. Also anything turbo charge will have higher down the road maintenance costs.
Nice truck
That cold start was 💩💩😂😂
All Trail Boss trucks are Z71s. You said it was a Trail Boss “as well as a Z71”. With a Trail Boss the two are synonymous. You can get a Z71 separately as you know, I’m sure, but once it’s a Trail Boss it’s also a Z71.
Wrong there is a custom trail boss!
@@indianapublicland7429 - Custom Trail Boss is also a Z71. All Trails Bosses are Z71 trucks. Nice try.
Not sure why the years have differences, but my 2020 TrailBoss(Z71/ LOL) LT came with all leather, a BOSE sound system, Power sunroof, and power sliding rear window as well as the LINE-X for the bed. This truck seems to be lacking….
@@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 - this is the base truck. You having the LT have access to the options like leather etc. sounds like you have a d*mn nice truck!
I have the diesel I get 28 mpg hey with 500 lbs of torque! Hard to beat those numbers
I have a 2021 silverado with the 2.7 litre 4 cylinder and when my lease is up it is going back, The 10 speed tranny is trash, when its cold it don't want to move and I have heard nothing but horror stories about the wear on these engines as they get miles on them. I have always been a Chevy man but I am switching to Dodge were I can get a non turbo pickup truck
I have a 2.7 and mine is just a daily driver to and from work, cruising and occasionally going out of town yes it doesn’t have a v8 for the sound but I have my music pretty old so I don’t hear the engine anyways
My jeep renegade had same power train it wasn’t putt putty putting around either😂😂😂
The high out put LB3 has 420 ft torque
I'm really having a hard time believing this 2.7 will hold up in a full size truck pulling the way my 2001 Chevy 1500 5.3 with 203000 miles has lasted, time will tell but for now don't want one
I drove a 2024 trail boss and it had a tiny screen no leather , what is this model
You drive a custom. Any non custom has this big screen starting from the LT and above.
looking for proper truck to tow 6,000 lbs RV across 48 states 25k miles, please advice. thank you. ❤
I can't speak to 25K miles, but we tow our 6000# TT all over oregon up Mt Hood and over the coastal ranges to the beach......and our 23 LT 4x4 2.7L has been amazing.
@@chuppoacobra what tires did you have and recommend? thanks
@@StartVisit
Right now I am still running the factory Grabbers on factory 17s. I have made a few 300 mile camping trips and have zero complaints. A tire with a D or E rating are good for towing loads. Eventually I will get BFGoodrich T/A KO2's. I have those on my 02 Silverado and my 08 Tahoe. Those are D and E rated, (I think wheel size plays into how the tire can be rated). The KO2's are excellent winter tires too. They are amazing on ice and snow, and are actually considered to be "traction devices". Crazy.
The dash should be skins like in gamer games. You can change the dash skin to look like a 1954 Chevy pickup dashboard with gauges, or maybe a 57 chevy dash board. Are you listening Chevy. Give us an option to change the dashboard gauges look with a couple different skins.
This is a brilliant idea! If Ford can give us fox body guages on the new Mustang's screen, Chevy can do something similar
Thank you for the review. I don't see the point of the 2.7 when i can get the V8 and get similar fuel economy but have an naturally aspirated engine with less to go wrong.
Also it sounds like a Honda civic.
I think it really only makes sense for people who want a daily truck that won't tow that often but still has the capability when they need it. The 2.7 doesn't get much better economy than the v8 when towing but with an empty bed and a light right foot it can eek out much better mpg than the v8s. That being said the turbo spools super early (which is great for towing) so you have to make a conscious effort to keep it out of boost to get the best mpg
I have 40,000 miles on my silverado with the 2.7. This thing is amazing. It pulls better than my 5.3 and I get 28 miles per gallon on the highway. I absolutely love my silverado. I have towed over 13000 pounds and it towed it with no effort. It felt like it could tow twice that. It's rated to tow 9900 pounds. It really towed the 13,000 with ease
@@terryclark6990can’t tell if it’s luck or engine is that good, I’m getting a 2024 and am deciding between the 2 engines
2 very small vents in the back. Hope you don’t get cold or hot back there. Really a failure on the back seat.
you said it was a analog clock, in digital form. I would say it is a digital clock in analog form. Because it is digital (can't question that), and looks like a old analog hand dial clock.
And all that oil spots there is that from Corvette or the pickup truck..lol
$63k for a 4 cylinder?! what are they smoking at GM?!!
My 2019 Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7 V8 gets Avg 17-18 MPG.
Like me,I bet you can polish off a bowl of butterbeans like nobody's business.
Just seen this video and that Trail Boss is very nice truck for looks and a road trip. Me? I'd never ever own a truck of size with a 4 cylinder motor. Trucks should come with nothing less than a V8 or V6 if its a diesel. And to me, a V6 diesel is pushing it.
The four cylinder doesn’t even break a sweat moving a full size truck (the 2023 Silverado 1500 weighs 500lbs more then a 2023 Tacoma). Engine mostly sits at 1200-1500rpm when driving like a normal person.
Biggest downside is towing mileage.
If you’re the type that need to tow 9000lbs all the time, go diesel.
As far as the V8’s go, the 4 cylinder is keeping up with them, no issue, so far.
There could be longevity issues, but lots of these motors are getting to 50k with no issues at all, so maybe not.
16.5 mpg that's awful for a 4 cylinder !
Show me one v8 that has 430 pounds of torque at 2k rpm. The mileage is much better than the 5.3 also. I know from experience. Mic drop.
Not when towing I bet, single digit fuel mileage while towing through the mountains
My 5.3 averaged 15.9 over its life, this 2.7 is averaging 20.5.. its substantial increase in fuel efficiency over both GM v8s, and wipes the floor with the 5.3 power output wise, and tows better than the 6.2.. what else do you want?
For first truck buyers yes
Answer to title Heeeeeeeeeck no 😂😂😂
$62,000 and I get a screen that lags and doesn't chime? ...Nope
I’d never buy a full size truck with a 4 cylinder haha what a joke. I was looking for a new vehicle to replace my 18 Silverado z71 v8. Found this and the salesman was just bragging about it left and right until I drove it and figured out it was a 4 banger. I instantly turned around and said IM DONE! Never never never! I’ll wait for. V8. Fu CHEVY
Awesome looking truck, but I’ll never buy black again, and never with this 2.7 liter motor , I do have this motor in my Colorado Trail Boss with the 430# torque calibration, I just love the V8 sound in my full-size Silverado! I think it will hurt the resale of a full-size with this motor too! It has the look and everything but not a V8 😢
60k for a 2 liter that gets horrible mpg and virtually no benefit of the 8’s?…
Meh
👎
Hey Haters! 27 MPG 93 Octane
No Silverado should come with a 4 cylinder companies and people need no turbo motors it is tht simple a V6 or V8 Chevy has loss over this move
You are seriously mistake and uneducated on modern tech. The 2.7 is ligit 100% more reliable than any v8 Chev currently offers. Currently fleets upon fleets are switching to the 2.7 and saving on down time and opetational costs. Time to let 1986 slide bud.
@@panthermartin7784 only reason the fleets are buying the 2.7's is because GM gives better deals on them, because most non fleet people are not buying them. If the same deals were on the 5.3's from GM, the fleets would buy them. All about the money. Same thing with police stations and the guns they buy. They buy glocks, because they are cheap. So , you are uneducated on the way companies operate when it comes to spending money.
@@Boobtube.Law enforcement does not buy Glocks because they are cheap. They buy them because they are reliable and user friendly. Your argument is invalid. Trust me, had HK’s (not cheap) where I work, got rid of them for Glocks and all were very pleased.
@@dutch4117 they are cheap. why they are purchased. Berettas are reliable also, but cost more. Your argument is invalid.
@@Boobtube. exactly! Why would they pay more for something that has the same reliability??
