      I like the 3500 better . it's very roomy high and heavy duty . your load is not wiggling you areount as much . you don't feel the bumps as much

    I wish they made trucks more affordable like they did back in the day. It's hard for us poor folks to afford a new truck, even with a very basic truck.

      The ford maverick is the only affordable truck rn, even that is going to be marked up by dealers. But I would not trust it to be reliable for 200k miles, let alone 100k miles

      Unless you're a businessman, and can write off the depreciation on your taxes, there's no reason to buy a brand new truck other than ego. Get one that's 2 or 3 years old and still under warranty. You could save 30%, maybe more.

      I got a 96 Silverado with 5.7l vortex 350
      Haven’t changed anything major besides structs, thermostat, and breaks.
      280,000+ miles, on my way to half a million miles!
      < it’s a side step too, very rare to see >
      Had some classic old folk told me my truck was beautiful :).

      Agreed. I'm trying to find a 96 to 98 K1500 in decent condition. Here in the rust belt though it's a real problem. Limited on budget which means I'm probably going to put more money together before I head south and go looking again. Up here they're all rusted out.

    My 2008 Silverado had the oil problem. The fix for it was a $4 o ring for the oil pick-up tube. As of now I'm at 265,000 miles still going strong.

    My 04’ 1500 Silverado 4.8 ext cab LS 4x has been nothing short of amazing! Original owner and currently has 218k on it.. Had some recall work done on it early on,intermediate steering,SS tailgate cables. Then I replaced the knock sensor around 135k,Heater control/blower motor resistor. Had my mechanic replace an outer wheel bearing and the AC compressor over 18 years of service it’s been a solid rig..
    Bow tie power!

    I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban 8.1 Vortec 496 C.I. 3/4 ton. 4X4 with the Allison Trans. 350 hp 417 lbs ft. Torque.... we won't get rid of it for nothing. Our other cars have disappointed us but this truck is our life boat. NEVER gives us problems.

    I have had really good luck with the '65 c10, '83 c10, '86 c10, '95 3500, '96 1500, and the '08 1500. Many of these were deal's that I could not refuse and ran well with mostly general maintenance and rarely needed major repairs. Still happy with all of them.

    The name silverado was actually one of the 3 trim levels offered for the truck. The other two being the Cheyenne and Scottsdale.

      My mom had a 1988 Scottsdale when I was a kid. Two tone red and white. Was a very nice looking truck with the good old 350 V8.

      There were also "Custom Deluxe", which was the cheaper trim level and "Custom", which was the absolute cheapest. Trim levels varied from year to year.

      Yeah that's how I remember it. In 1984, I remember walking thru the dealer lots of Ford and Chevy with my dad looking for a new truck to buy. Being 9 and satisfied I'd convinced dad to get a new, red Silverado, he ended up buying one of those new-fangled 4x4 Rangers w/a V6, 5-sp manual, and a factory lift on Remington Wide Brute M/Ts. Black with gold stripes and burgundy-regret velour interior. lol No idea why I remember the make/model of those tires.

    My wife’s 2001 Silverado saved her life after it got hit and spun out into a ditch. We were really sad to see it go to pasture, but the truck was so solid and kept her safe, so I’ll always have good things to say about the older ones. Had over 300k miles on it and ran great too.

      I know a couple here in town, they have a Silverado, forgot the year but I got in it the other day, there's not one thing on that truck that isn't broken. The only thing that works/runs is the engine and the transmission (barely) it takes a little while to get into D or R, there's a delay and then a nasty kick. I was plugging a tire for them for free, so I had to move the truck up to spray all around to find the bubbles with soapy water and eventually plug it. This is the same truck that the brake lines rotted out and everytime you'd step on the brake pedal you had brake fluid gushing out the back. I couldn't do it but I hooked them up with a local guy that has a lift and did all the brake lines for $1000 bucks, parts included, that was a steal, you gotta drop the fuel tank and a bunch of other stuff, labor is crazy on that job. Been telling them to get rid of it and get newer F-150 or a Tacoma but they don't have the money. I would never buy a GM product LOL.

      My wife still has her 2001 Tahoe and I’d have to admit it’s the best car we have ever owned. Sure it has some tiny issues but easily fixed. Runs like a clock with a 5.3 L V-8 and rides as good as it was new. Love this car!!

    We had a 2005 1500 that had no major issues until the PCM went out at 170k miles. Other than a $1000 repair, the truck was a basically trouble free. Fantastic truck it was.

    I have the Chevy 2500HD 6L gas from 2011. I have almost 400,000 miles on it. Transmission was rebuilt about 350,000 miles. Other then that it has a bad case of cancer from road salt here in Michigan.

    I bought a 2002 2500HD 4 wheel drive Silverado with 25,000 miles on it back in 2004. LT, Crew Cab, 6.0 V8 Gas. It was still under warranty. I paid $19,000. White with leather seats. 141,000 miles on it. Never wanna sell it. It has been a great truck!

      I bought an 02 brand new in 02, same truck. I still have it, no major mechanical issues, still runs like new. 6 liter are just as good if not better than the old 350s.

    Besides some slightly annoying electrical issues that haven’t affected the day to day use I’ve owned my 2005 silverado 1500 for 5 years and it’s been an excellent truck, I’ve trusted it to take me from New Mexico to Nevada, Idaho to colorado and all sorts of other travels I’ve done, it’s been a very dependable vehicle and I do love chevys but I wouldn’t touch the newer ones with a 10 ft pole

    I have had my 1995 Silverado Extended cab since 1998 and it has been a great truck. I have almost 250K miles on it. It is a 350 TBI. Honestly, it runs almost as good as it did when I first bought it. I know he re-sale value isn't much but I don't intend to get rid of it.

    Honestly it’s embarrassing to compare the price/durability of modern trucks to the classics.
    We have to blame ourselves as consumers. We pay a years salary for a truck that will die before our 70’s square body’s

      It’s mostly cause it’s “cool” to drive trucks now, and most of the truck buyers are suburban upper class instead of the working class. If they made a $18k barebones single cab with a v8 that lasted 30 years no one would buy it 😔

      No I'll blame the manufacturer. I didn't ask for any of the crap they've done over the past 35+ years. I need power, reliability, A/C, good stereo and somewhere comfortable to sit. I didn't ask for computers, sensors, heated seats/ steering wheel, carpet, touch screen etc...

      People buying these don't read up on how your control arm can break off due to faulty welding. I get that people had a favorite Chevy from 20 or 30 or 50 years ago but if you don't punish them for bad quality they won't do better they'll just keep doing things cheaper.

    My 2014 has given me no trouble, just tires, brakes and one battery. 8 years in harsh winter conditions down to minus 40 and it has never failed me.

    hi Scotty, great video. I have a 2019 Chevy Silverado and I love it. But what I hated about it was the DFM and the auto start/stop technology. I did recently install the Pulsar LT to disable the DFM and to disable the auto start stop plus to be able to adjust the throttle sensitivity. I am loving this truck now and it is a Beautiful looking truck. She has plenty of power especially now that my truck is a full time V8 instead of a part-time V8. And as for the stuff I hated about it was the lifter failure at 5000 miles, new battery and infotainment screen at about 15,000 miles. I now have 29,000 miles and zero issues, I'm hoping it remains that way especially now that the the DFM and the auto start/stop has been disabled. Should have installed that Pulsar LT sooner. I did make a insulation video of it if you want to check it out.

      I have a 17 with the 5.3 L engine. Used the range device to deactivate the AFM. Doesn't shut off when I stop 48k miles no issues so far.

      @@patrickoconnor1077 I don't know who at GM or any of these other manufacturers thought having your vehicle shut down at stops was a good idea. And don't get me started on that AFM DFM crap. But yes as of today December 22nd haven't had any issues with the pulsar LT.

      Sad part is the AFM and start/stop only gains maybe 1 mpg. Not worth the hassle.

    Silverado was originally a trim package. My dad had a 70’s truck with it. It had extra chrome etc.

      Unfortunately my mother had 1 of those infamous 5.7N engine equipped 1978 Silverado`s! Rode nice but full of gidget gadget electrical switches & funky string cable auto trans. indicators that caused constant hassles as well as the engine that blew through 3 head gaskets! The truck did get 22mpg though with a 120 hp diesel engine.

    I like my 1995 Silverado extended cab with the 305 V8 engine. I bought it used for $2,750 in January of 2014. It currently has 254,000 and some odd miles on it, never-failing only for standard maintenance and parts. I love your videos, please keep up the good work. Yes, I am the only mechanic that works on this truck. And yes, I am a 60-year-old woman.

      1995 last year with the bulletproof TBI. Vortec decent too but too many sensors and spider injector was poorly designed- the last attempt at fuel economy before the LS

    Great video learned some things I had ever heard before. I am a Chevy man and have owned many with very little trouble mechanically. Have had many trucks, camaros, and one Corvette. I currently drive a 2015 Silverado 1500 4x4 LT that I purchased new and currently has 75k miles. I have had no issues at all and has been my favorite truck I've ever owned. I have considered upgrading many times and just get let her go and is almost paid off. Great videos man keep up the good work !!

      2006 here with about 109,000 original miles with the Work Truck Trim 4.8 Extended Cab, all stock and original from factory except brakes, shocks, struts, and battery to name a few. It was my Grandpa's truck, so it is special. 99-06 trucks are solid.

      I gave my brother my 98 cheyan 1/2 ton, he fell on hard times so I helped him out. I completely rebuilt the transmission and it ran great even in California it still passes smog. He calls me all the time to tell me how much he likes it. Seriously those trucks were/are dam good trucks it was a 5.7 v8 .

      I had 96 with 443,000 miles on it. Sold it still running. Original motor . No work done to it. Transmission was a problem though. I got a 2013 . Same as the 2012. I've got 225,000 on it. But just did the Transmission however.

      I have a 1996 Silverado 1500 with 168,000+ miles, runs smooth as silk. two years ago I replaced the original fuel pump. I plan on keeping it !

    Love my 2019 Silverado. Only had it 10 months but its been a pleasure to drive. As for gas mileage, I have no complaints. If I'm pushing it at 78 to 80 I only average 17 to 18. With the price of gas I've slowed it down to 72 to 74 an averaging 20 to 22mpg I'm good with that. So far no issues at 39000.

    My last Chevrolet was a 1978 Silverado with a 4 barrel quadra jet with 350 v8. My dad and I had it collectively over 20 years. Simple to work on.

    I've got a 2002 Silverado 2500 with the 6.0 litre engine. It's the best truck I have ever owned. By far.

      My 2004 2500HD with the 6.0 was solid. No issues with it for the 10 years I owned it. I’m buying a 2022 2500HD 6.6 gasser in two weeks, hope these are just as good.

    The early 2000s Silverados were good trucks. The 4l60 transmission took a lot of flak, but it would generally go at least 200k if maintained properly. I’ve got a 2003 right now, 2wd with the 4.8. That engine might not be a powerhouse but it’s bulletproof reliable. Plenty of power for what I need and still gets respectable fuel mileage for a 20 year old truck in the 16-17 mpg range. Only thing that doesn’t work is cruise control, something I never really used in a truck anyway. Ac still blows cold, even on 100 degree summer days. I’m in Illinois so yeah it’s got some rust but what 20 year old vehicle doesn’t in the Midwest. Not terribly bad, general spots like cab corners, rocker panels and on bed above rear tires.

    I sold my built 2nd gen TRD OR Tacoma (v6 6-speed) for a 2012 2500HD 6.0 and i honestly could not be happier. Such a step up. It’s just a really sturdy truck and the more I read about people getting a massive amount of miles out of em the more I’m assured of my decision. Thanks Scotty for the education!

    I love my 2000 Silverado been driving it for 6 years it has around 280,000 miles and running strong. I also have a 2006 Silverado Intimidator SS and it's my hotrod that's been lowered with headers and x pipe 3" true duel exhaust dumped in front of rear axel stage 3 tsp cam 90 lb injectors. 4l80e trans triple disk with 14 bolt rear end trutrac. Very fun to drive and I love both of my Silverados!

    I bought an 03 Silverado new and had it about 15 years and never had too many issues but traded in for a lightly used 16 Ford F-150. Now that truck has a higher trade in value than what I bought it for 5 years ago.

    I have a 2006 2500HD LT Crew Cab with the 6.0 LS. I am the second owner and have had almost no mechanical issues out of it in the whole time ive had it. Plus the cat eye front end is pretty sexy. Great truck even with 256k miles.

    I just purchased a 2019 Silverado z71 crew cab . I’m a fan of chevy and have been for yrs definitely appreciate your videos. I don’t know how I came across your page but I’m glad I did very educational !
    I would love for you to do a video about the 2019 and give a full break down front n back of what I’m truly in store for although I have a bumper to bumper warranty. If I can get ahead of some issues that would be great. As it’s kind of to late to give the truck back now lol

    In my opinion the 1999-2007(classic) models were some of the best models. They had the new LS motors which were much improved ovet the old 350's. My 2003 has 331,400 miles and still runs great. I did have to rebuild the trans at 300k miles, but still haven't touched the engine though. All model years have their issues. The 2007-2013 models had quality issues related to the recession and restructure of GM. And the 2014-2018 had issues with the AFM system, mostly lifter failure around 150,000 miles, plus the issues Scotty mentioned. Ford and Chrysler have their issues also.

    I’ve had 4 of them, currently a 2012 with the 6.2l V8. It’s got 111,000 miles and it runs great, tons of power! I’ve kept up on maintenance and it’s paid me back with many, trouble free miles.

      111,000. That’s it. My 1998 Ford F-150 lasted 340,000 miles. I ran that truck rough, always delayed the oil changes, And never had any motor or transmission rebuild or replacements.

      My 2012 2500HD has 299,000 and some change on it. Bought it used, needed to replace the oil pump and starter but it starts up every time, runs great, and shows no signs of serious wear and tear.

    Cool to learn the history and origins of GM and the truck line. I've owned a 2012 2500 HD Silverado with a 6.0 liter gas motor for 2 years and it's been a great truck. This is my 2nd truck with the 6.0, the 1st being the 1999 first generation. The fuel pump was the weak link in the 1st Gen very prone to wear and failure. These have both been my every day drivers and used for work towing and hauling in my landscape business. Very pleased with the power and reliability, would recommend these years and cutting off the restrictive factory muffler in place of a quality stainless steel alternative to breath and sound better. The aero turbine muffler I welded on both of mine produces a deep throaty tone and freed up a ton of space.

      I have a 2015 Silverado with a 6.2 and 8 speed tranny. I love it to death. But the tranny trembles here and there when it locks up in eight gear at cruising speed. My cousin with a newer 5.3 with a 10 speed said his does the same thing. My engine builder who’s a Chevy guy says it’s the torque converter and cheap control module chevy uses. You can tune it out along with the dropping down to 4 cylinders and also put a good shift tune on it and it’ll be reliable and fun to drive from what I’ve heard from other people.

    I have a 2001 Silverado 1500HD with almost 300k miles. I’ve had to replace a transmission, transfer case, head gasket, and front end suspension components. I’d say that’s not bad for 20 year old truck. I will drive that thing till it blows. Love my Silverado.

    I learned how to drive in my dad’s ‘57 Chevy pickup. I bought my 1st new Chevy Silverado in ‘04, extended cab, 4x4 and still have it. LOL! And, yes it has electrical issues. But overall it’s been a good truck. My local honest mechanic advised me to keep it as long as I can. He said the newer models aren’t the same quality.

      I used to be in the automobile wholesale business and quickly came to realize the truth of GM trucks. They used to break on the way to the auction all the time. It was miserable. I didn't get paid until I sold the truck in working order! That said, I do currently own a 2004 2wd V8 longbox as an extra insurance vehicle (it's keeps my insurance rates down so my sons can drive newer cars). The truck has not been that bad, normal maintenance. (today is brake calipers, brakes all the way around, upper ball joint) I think I have one of the last good Chevy trucks.

      I have an 04 duramax and it's a tank, also a 2011 2500hd with the duramax and its a nicer truck but not as dependable although neither has given me anything out of the ordinary to complain about but I am a stickler for maintenance. There are good and bad in all of them so get what you want and can afford or just go with your brand but your only gonna get out of any vehicle what you put into them. So if you neglect the truck it's not on the manufacturer it's on you old pal.

    i got a 2012 silverado 1500 z71 crewcab 4x4. and i hate the advanced fuel management system that drops 4 cylinders cause its hard on the motor and i really would love for this truck to last longtinme. but i could use more power. what upgrades woiuld you suggest? aftermarket intake manifold? the thought of a plastic one doesnt give me confidence. and is there a way to shut off the afm? i found that switching it to manuel instead of drive will except in 6th gear.

    My 2016 has been great. Awesome fuel efficiency for a big crew cab truck. Comfortable and heavy duty. Tows good and I have only have to change the washer fluid pump so far.

    I own a 2016 Silverado 1500 Z71. I originally chose this truck because I like the body style on the 2016 more than any other years. However the more I drive it the truck is impressive for the price, I paid 37k for the truck. The only thing I've had to modify that is almost unbearable is the AFM (Active Fuel Management). I personally just have a plug in AFM disabler from Range Technologies. Having the AFM disabled is SUPER noticeable and makes the drive and experience of the v8 much better.

    my 1st Chevy was a '99 Tahoe. i owned it 13 years, 180k. _loved it._
    my 2nd was a '14 Silverado. had it 4 years 158k trouble free miles. _loved it,_ but was itching for another Tahoe.
    my 3rd/current Chevy is a '17 Tahoe which now has 61k. im happy as a clam.

      my old lanlord had a 17 tahoe and the ac compresser blew up at 60000 miles and it costs like 1200$ to fix and the waranty didnt cover it... thats an expensive repair with for a truck that had only 60000 miles at the time i dont reccomend newer chevy or gm trucks they suck!!! i like the older ones that ran forever

    Thanks Scotty for the well informed video.
    I've been a loyal GM owner for over 45 years. And I have found that if you perform the general preventative maintenance of these vehicles, they will last for hundreds of thousands of miles. Also, I only have my Chevy's serviced by a qualified GM trained technician. It costs a little more, but it's worth the additional money. One more note! If I'm out traveling and need some service work, there's a Chevy dealer in just about every city / town.
    FYI...I'm currently the proud owner of a 2017 ZO6 and 2023 Silverado LT.

    Looking into getting a 2019 Silverado LD listed for $31k with 44k on the odometer. What’s the reliability/gas mileage like on these things? Should I expect better gas mileage than a Jaguar XF 5.0 that gets 16 mpg?

    Currently 262,000 miles
    Only brakes , oil, and tires
    Best truck I’ve ever owned
    My 02 even has 265,000 on it
    The only issue I had was catalytic converters burning up and chunking out

      @@SuperEddietv I have a 2015 and also 3 transmissions. Additionally had the cats crumble and electrical issues(grounding failure). A total of $18,000 of extra expenses in 230,000 miles. I have to mention that the 5.3L V8 is a good engine that is not burning oil but due to normal wear has recently started to show an oil dilution of 3%. I'm wondering... is RAM better? How about Ford?

    I've only owned 1 vehicle, my 2005 4.3L Silverado that I bought new. I've seen used ones for sale with 400K on them, so I guess I'll keep mine for another 20 years since I don't drive much.

    I have the 21’ 1500 LTZ Texas Edition with all the options. It has the L84 5.3 with DFM. It’s never had any issues and out on the Highway I averaged around 27-28 mpg. About to hit 15k miles and I’ve only needed oil changes. Crossing my fingers it states that way.

    Bought a 2012 1500 5.3 with 6l80 transmission, truck has 216k miles and very minimal rust. I absolutely love it and I think this was a great option for my first full size pick up.

      I have a 2010 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 and 6 speed like yours. No problems so far. It's been a great truck....the best I've had in 25 years of owning trucks. I think that that generation of trucks turned out to be good because GM was facing bankruptcy at the time. So, they knew they needed to build quality trucks to stay in business. Once they came out of those years and redesigned the truck for 2014, the quality began to decline again. My dad has a 2019 Silverado. It's had 8 recalls and I don't believe his 8 speed transmission will last long as it hasn't shifted correctly from day 1.

    I bought my 2021 2.7T Silverado with 0.7 miles on the cluster back in February 2021. I'm now at 15,500 Mike's. It had wire harness issues at first, but Chevy took care of all those issues without so much a peep. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRUCK!

      What issues were you having? Just got a 2023 2.7T and had both leaf packs replaced. Infotainment was initially having issues but I reset it and been good for about 1000 miles now.

    I retired from Ford and bought a 2020 Chevrolet 3500 LTZ 6.6L gas to pull my 30' travel trailer. In short I could have you here for hours explaining why I bought my first Chevrolet vs. Ford and gas vs. diesel, but I will just give you just a few. You mentioned the front suspension in you video. My Chevy has the independent front suspension, which helps for an amazing ride and I do not need to worry about Ford's Death Wobble, which still has not been corrected in current models starting in 2017. The Chevy's bed is 7" wider and 4" longer than the previous models. The rear bumper step and bed side steps are brilliant. I can get into the bed when I have a trailer attached with the rear bumper steps, which you can't do with Ford's integrated tailgate step. I can reach my tools in the front of the bed with the side steps. The OEM tonneau cover opens from the front and rear. I do not care for Ford's aluminum body as any body repairs are too expensive and more complicated. Not all body shops are capable of aluminum repairs. The new 6.6L gas engine is plenty powerful enough to pull a travel trailer or fifth wheel, however, I do miss the diesel exhaust brake. I have had no issues with my Chevy so far.

    Well... I just bought a 2018 Silverado because my 2003 finally caused me too much trouble. Nothing serious, just too often. I actually hated to let it go because it really was so good to me. The young guy that bought it couldn't be happier & he put a couple grand into her & he's still young enough to crawl around under it, I'm getting to old! ;-) Anyhow, I've only had my 2018 for about a month so I don't know how long she's gonna be good to me but I do take care of my vehicles. I figure if I take care of them, they will take care of me! She's pretty basic so much less things to go wrong in the future. Wish me luck.

      My buddy got rid of his 2003 because it needed brake lines. Brake lines. I couldn't believe it. Got a brand new Silverado and regrets the hell outta it lol

      I'm keeping my 02 Silverado ext cab long bed 4x4, which is a configuration that I'm not even sure you can order nowadays in the 1500 series, so she's pretty rare. She's got 346k on it and leaks a little oil, but it starts every time I turn the key and has never left me stranded. I probably could put $10k into it since it's mostly original down to the ball joints. I think I've done 2 wheel bearings, an alternator, 2 tie rods and the pittman arm and complete brake overhaul including master cylinder and booster. Other than that, it's all original. I'd rather put $10k into this one than buy a newer one, especially since it's a 2nd vehicle at this point and not a daily driver.

    I have a 2014 Silervado 1500 LT extended cab, which I will be giving to my son when he graduates college in 2022--only if the car market recovers. It has been trouble free (110k miles), rides like a Cadillac (according to my wife), and has been indespensible for hauling and towing. My only regret with the purchase is that I got the V6 instead of the V8.

    As a Chevy guy, I've had many. an 89, then an 06 and an 07, then a 2015 and now a 2017.
    For me, they are simply the most comfortable to be in. They ride nicer than the Ford I had. And back seat comfort was better in the Chevy's vs the Ford.
    Late 70's square body flairside 4x4 is the pinnacle of looks for the chevy trucks.

    I just traded my 2015 Sierra 1500 for a 2021 4Runner. I have wanted a 4Runner for years and I finally decided to get one. I only had transmission issues at 125,000 miles with the Sierra, which they replaced it with a new one and I traded it at 149,000 for my 4Runner. Got 16,500 on the trade in. Other than the one transmission issue I never had any issues with it. I did oil changes every 5,000 miles like Scotty recommends.       @@icost4671 she is my third wife the others were cheaters. She takes care of me along with the kids and grandkids so no she isn’t going anywhere.
      Her main excuse for not doing it is that I was diesel mechanic for almost 28 years and if I want it changed before she gets it changed then I can do it for her. Sorry not a mechanic anymore because of health issues. Just can’t do what I used to be able to do anymore unless I don’t want to be able to move for 2-3 days. So I just drop her at work then take her car and have the oil changed without her knowing it. It’s easier that way so it lasts longer.
      To bad she got a little 2012 Ford Focus hatchback. But our oldest son got it for her as a gift. So I don’t bother complaining about it. I just won’t ride in it very often. I’m just not a Ford guy. I’ve always had Chevy and Toyota trucks.

      @@osuk1 the oil change issue is the only thing she didn’t listen about until, one night I played Scotty’s video of why you should change your oil every 3-5000 miles loud enough for her to hear it. So after she watched it she understands why I’m always saying that to her and the kids when they asked me about oil changes. They kids still argue and say the dealership says it can go 10,000 miles so I don’t bother telling them anymore. They will learn the hard way and might listen after that. Since kid think they know everything.
      When I was still working on trucks I never let any of my diesel customers tractors go over 5,000 miles unless they we on the road. But it got changed when they got back. It just makes sense too me to keep clean oil in the engine so it lasts longer and lubricates the engine more efficiently. Plus grandpa and dad taught me to do that long before I went to school to become a diesel mechanic.

    Have a1995 Silverado 5.7 k1500 with 180,000 on it. Runs great, solid, and dependable. The only downer is the paint job. Looks old but no rust . Made in Canada, sold in Texas, and I got it in California. Rip off state charges me $ 300 a year for registration. But I love it.

    Ive been driving my 2012 silvy for 8 years and I must say, Scotty is right. It’s been a great truck and I have no plans to replace it any time soon . Cheers !

    My first Silverado was an 88 std cab 4wd, then a 92 stepwise ext cab, 2001 fleetside ext cab. Then a 2004 ext cab which was in a 60mph head on with a fire F150 in 2011. Had 155k on it.. ran and looked like new. Replaced it with a used 06. Had no major issues with any of them. Sold the 06 in w 160k on it in 2019 to buy a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali. I hope I don't regret it. Great truck so far. Disabled the DFM though.

    They at least had character unlike today's slab sided offerings.

    I love my 1992 Silverado, I bought it brand new and it still runs and looks great, I get a lot of compliments on it along with offers to buy it, that's not going to happen. I recently had the air conditioning system completely replaced. The mechanic said.....well it's probably 10 years old and it's due. I said, no, it's 26 years old, he argued and said, it's not that old. I said, well I can guarantee it's that old because I'm the original owner of this truck. He replied, wow, it lasted over 25 years! I said, yep. I had it replaced with nothing but original equipment parts and it's working great again. It's never been in a wreck, no dents, just typical scumbags causing door dings. The paint started peeling on the roof and a small spot (about the size of a quarter) on the hood, I hate that. I change the oil every 2500 to 3000 miles since it was new and without fail. It's a short bed, standard cab 350 V8. I had a guy I know buy a 1993 and it had a cup holder that mine didn't come with. The great part is, his interior was the same color as mine, so I hustled down to my Chevy dealer and for a whopping $17.00 bought the cup holder and fastened it to my dash in the same spot the 1993 model did. Why isn't Chevy having to repaint all these peeling paint issues? You can see vehicles much older with no paint issues, it's obvious they tried something that didn't work.

      I have a 93 that paint has peeled some too. The problem was the primer they used from 88 to 94. It was very good primer but it was so hard and so slick that the paint didn’t stick well. GM repainted a bunch of them early on under warranty.

    I've got a 2004 Silverado 5.3. Just over 240k. Biggest repair I've had so far is replacing the transfer case with a used transfer case with 84k miles on it. Otherwise just regular maintenance. I did do the head gaskets and all the gasket up from there oh and while I was there I replaced the knock sensors. Just to freshen up the motor and make it last longer. Best dang vehicle I have ever owned! 😊

    2021 Silverado Custom TrailBoss 5.3L no afm or dfm or auto start/stop. Great ride and handling. Very comfortable interior. Transmission shift is sometimes clunky at certain speeds, downshifting and upshifts. Seemed to be searching for a gear while traffic speeds up or slowing and clunk. Sometimes hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Dealer did update to trans software and seems to be better.

    I purchased a 2003 Silverado 1500 4.3 v6 2WD extended cab new & it's never had any issues. Somewhat underpowered (200 hp) but I don't tow or load heavy, so it's ok & gets 20 mpg on hwy. I plan to keep the truck as long as possible. Now retired & driving less than 5000/yr. it should last me quite some time. I have been very happy w/my truck & it still looks fantastic. in & out.

    Thanks for the great info Scotty. I've always been a Chevy man. Every vehicle I have owned for myself as been a Chevy although I've only had 5 Silverados so far. A 91, 95, 99, 09, and my current 11. All gasoline-driven V8's. By far I enjoyed the 09 the most in terms of reliability. Before I totaled it last year I had 369,000 miles on it original motor. The only major work I had to do on it was replacing the lifters right about the 300K mark and a couple of Transmissions along the way. Mostly my fault on the Transmissions LOL. The 11:00 I drive now I've had more issues with then all the rest. Possibly because of the previous owner. But has not deterred me from looking into buying another Chevrolet to replace it next year. The Insight on the 12 is useful because I had heard some horror stories about some of the rear ends on the newer models exploding. Not sure what year range that has been happening in I just heard rumors. If you've heard anything about that I'd appreciate the input there as well.

    My 2021 GMC Terrain’s infotainment system likes to freeze a lot, not connect to Apple CarPlay, won’t switch sources, it’s a real headache. No nightmares (trans failure, rods, shafts) anything like that yet but I do question the quality of it. Seems like a solid car but I know that engine upfront is literally in everything they make.

    Hey Scott , I own a 2001 Silverado, 2500 Hd Diesel With 160,000 miles on it . I bought it in 2008 for $14,000 with 73,000 miles on it . It’s a 4 door 4x4 with an 8 feet bed . I have only had 1 issue with it , in 2011 the key switch shorted out , otherwise is been a great truck . It averages 26 mpg on highway under no load .

    Didn’t really have a problem with my 08 Silverado got it to 250k with no mods and regular maintenance. Check engine light on the whole time tho. Got a 2013 Silverado now same thing check engine light all the time but reliable as hell

      My 08 didn’t die btw at 250k. I just sold it lol it was running good. 07-13 Silverado’s are good trucks just have some minor flaws. Are they bullet proof indestructible beasts? No, but will take an absolute beating and get you home. Even with a broken cv, wounded motor and trail conditions commanding 4x4 low to get out of the ORV park we were in. Still got her home okay, in one piece, (besides the motor)lol. Had to swap a new one in. Sucked some water up and snapped piston 7 right off the crank. Drove it home like that🤣crazy

      My 2004 GMC Sierra is still going with 208,000 miles . Just got done with a coast to coast ride with 8000 miles completed . Problems are a intermittent check engine light on mass airflow sensor which may need replacement. The felt on my ceiling is pealing off and the final think is the cluster lighting is fading ( mostly the gear display ) . This was a base model bought brand new for 14 grand . This truck has a 6cy .

    and ive been doingh alot of research into electrolysis and turned my generator into water powered instead of gas. if i do it right could i turn my truck 2012 silverado 1500 into water powered hybrid if i mae sure to take care of the heating issue and make sure the power draw from the alternator is low. likme a few amps.

    I bought my 2016 chevy silverado 2500 HD WT 6.0 Gas New. I have a landscape business. It's either pulling my mower enclosed trailer or my dump trailer. I just turn over 91,000 miles. I would say 80% of those miles are pulling my trailers. I feel like I've been lucky. I just change the breaks back in July at 80,000 miles. I've flush and change the transmission fluids, rear differential and transaxle fluids this year. Wish I did this service sooner but local machines said there was no need to. I finally decided to just do it myself. The only problem I've had is in the first year the battery went out and warranty covered it. This year the radiator crack and I replaced it myself. Sometimes my air gets stuck on defrost when I want it to come out the vents.. Other than that no mechanical issues. I services it myself every 5k miles. I will have it paid off in 6 months. I've thought about selling it since used trucks are going high and get a new one. I know business wise you keep them until they die. Regardless in the next two years in adding another truck to my business. I enjoy your channel! You almost have me buying a Ford!

      Me too. No problems so far. Had to have the power door locks replaced early on under warranty and it got stuck in 4 cyl mode once but that was fixed free too. No trouble in the last 8+ years

    This is my 4th "burb'/Yukon XL. My previous three had over 225k on them, however, all had accidents. Because of enormous room and easy fixes, they can last forever. My last and final vehicle is a 2005 Chevy Suburban 2500. I bought it in May 2019; from a one owner with 104K. And the most Awesome feature? Under my beast is a "sleeper" 8.1, 496cc, giggity-up, put yo' foot in it, with the "skinny pedal" on the right! YIPPEE! Also will pull our home right off our foundation with all that torque! It's all mine and "I'm Lovin' It"!

      @lAcid Rainl Yep. The truck is in "beloved" status now due to a couple of legendary expeditions. Currently in the front yard with the mail carrier's car planted in the rear bumper due to an icy hill. 😑 No longer a daily driver, but it's going to my son next month. His problem now! 😄
