    The 774 member Allen Eagle Escadrille, the largest marching band in America, performs weekly at Allen High School football games for 18,000+ fans at Allen Eagle Stadium, but this $1.2 million trip to Pasadena, CA for the Tournament of Roses Parade blew the world away.
    With over 100 million people watching on television around the world and more than 1 million people lining the parade route in Pasadena, the Escadrille's appearance at the 2016 Tournament of Roses Parade was named one of the "5 best moments of the 2016 Rose Parade."
    Money for the trip was raised with great support of the fantastic residents of Allen through several activities starting with a "recycling" day where unwanted electronics, toys, sporting goods and household items were collected and purchased by a reclamation company.
    * a free carwash in 5 Allen locations simultaneously earned $10,000 in donations
    *a (new) mattress sale held in the band hall where the national record for most number of mattresses sold was broken (140 in one day) earned $25,000
    * $135,000 in corporate donations
    Each student had to come up with $1,600 to pay for the trip but after the money that was raised was divided up between the students (about $200 per person) the amount was lowered to $1,400 per student.
    The numbers:
    8 airplanes to get to California
    2 Semi-tractor trailers to transport uniforms and equipment
    60 chaperones
    15 buses to transport the band around town
    The trip began 18 months earlier when the band applied, submitting a 3 minute video featuring all of the kids, letters of recommendations from public officials, etc... In February of 2015 the Rose Parade made their selection and invited 12 bands from around the world to participate in the 2016 parade.
    Please enjoy this video that includes the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber conducting a flyover at Rose Bowl at the beginning of the parade. The footage was shot live at the Tournament of Roses Parade by Two Shooters Photography from Allen, TX. Check out their website for more pictures of the Escadrille. www.twoshootersphotos.com

    Allen is a great community, and the band students all work extremely hard to be the best at everything they are a part of. The Allen Eagle Escadrille could not have been more deserving of this once in a lifetime experience.

    Band is so large they could have the people in front playing one song and have the group in back play something completely different!

    How do you even manage a band that size? That’s the question I wonder. Biggest band I’ve been in was 325 and it was hard to rehearse.

      unigamehead The logistics are amazing. Accommodations are made for everything. To take roll at the beginning of rehearsal, everyone has a bar code and just scans in when the arrive. Travel to away games takes 18 school buses and around 100 volunteers.

    Nice and Sunny . Not like the first time Escadrille went Rose parade. I was so cold and wet. I remember the person in front me didn't wear white and tan shorts and she had on bright blue underwear. lol
