The countdown lights are there to eliminate any reaction time. This isn't a 100m dash. There's no anticipation, so no reaction time.

Because the chrono gear times from crossing start line to crossing finish line. So no matter if you launch before green, your ET time will be measured right. You could cross finish line ahead of the other car and still lose because you made a higher ET.
The good thing about both cars launching on green light is for the visual spectacle of two cars fighting side by side

Yes at a standstill start electric is faster but that acceleration declines fast at a certain speed as you could see the lambo always finished with a way higher speed, with a rolling start or longer race a lot of cars would beat it

Realistically speaking I think in the city and on the highway Tesla cars would be the "fastest" because you wouldn't go over 40mph. The highway is also pretty much the same story because at most you can go up to like 80mph to 90mph before you get pulled over so yes Tesla cars within the current speed limits are the fastest.

The car was accelerating way beyond the legal speed requirements that Tesla is marketing torwards its customers.
Just because Samsung claims that, for example the Note 9 can last an entire day in terms of battery capacitance doesn't mean you can just put your Note 9 into a high-battery usage position like opening multiple apps at high brightness and expect it to last more than 4 hours.
This is a huge problem for EV sportscars, the amount of recharging they'll need in other settings than drag racing, constant lap stops wouldn't really help you win, hence why EV motorsport cars balance between huge downforce and being extremely lightweight to conserve energy.
I'm not saying "fuck EV cars", infact i'm supportive of them. I'm saying stop being extremely dogmatic in your favour just because muh elon musk.

They tried. The Roadster was supposed to be a two-speed, but the torque of the electric motor was just too much for the transmission to handle. To this day, Teslas are single speed because they couldn't build a transmission that wouldn't be shredded by an electric motor.

For all you guys complaining about the Tesla starting too soon it doesn’t really matter if one car got a slight start ahead. The clock starts for each car when they move. The labor could’ve waited until the Tesla finished and the time wouldn’t start for it until it started moving.

The problem is! If the battery of a electric car is dead...! You have to pay atleast 50% of the entire cars price to fix it!
Thats bullshit, batteries get much cheaper and better daily, whereas gasoline engines don't really improve much..
Of course this was just a drag race, the tesla has instant power meaning it doesnt have to be in a powerband to have max potential. So in general electric cars have the best acceleration in cars but for long term races gas engines will mostly win, the fastest electric car is the Nio EP9 and only goes 190 mph,while the fastest street legal gas car is the bugatti veyron which can exceed speeds of 250 mph. At this current moment if you put both of the top of the class cars in a longer race the veyron will win almost everytime. For right now the average electric car may be one of the best options for daily life, but if you want something that can rocket up to 250, gas is the way to go, of course no smart person would max out a veyron unless they had a death wish or are on a track.

Venkat Raman On the Model X and the Model S, Tesla gives you an eight year warranty on your batteries (that means Tesla will pay for your new batteries if they become unusable). And even if your car completely dies, you can just have a friend pull it to a local Supercharger. Besides, your car will tell you where you need to stop and charge for long road trips.

mtrujillo1973 I mean, he has a point, tho: Gas cars need the advantage (actually running) of an engine reving in idle, electrics don’t as they have all the oompf from the get go and can keep it up for long enough to not need a second gear, get a 2,3 or heck maybe even 4 speed one and bye bye gas speed record... provided the gearbox survives the electric motor and the tires get enough grip and don’t get torn apart by spinning that fast...

Tesla cars will only dominate short drag races. Gas cars are still superior in many ways.
gas supercars are still 1:30s faster than any tesla on the Nurb (best i've found on youtube is a 8.50 with a p85d, i'm guessing the p100d ludricrous would do at least 30s faster so a 8.20, still the gt2 rs does 6:46, so evena minute faster is still slow compared to the best gas supercar), so i think the like of GT2 Rs or Performante are still quite safe before their engine become irrelevant

Shadowboost they run out of power at top because they have only one gear, if you manage to get 2 gears in an electric car then they would perform much better at high speeds
Unless they defy the laws of physics thats not going to happen for awhile until battery technology is improved greatly! Even with a few gears 2.5 tonne or whatever it weighs is not going to accelerate fast above a certain speed with 700hp.

Quickest to achieve 0 - 100 MPH is different from highest top speed. One is max acceleration, the other is max velocity.
Both are good for race tracks or at least would need a freeway to do that. Very rarely you touch 100 MPH on city roads within such a short time. Again, for racing, you'd never use an SUV (or even a cross over) - way too much air resistance. That said, it is quite an achievement that a $170k ELECTRIC vehicle can beat a top-notch $400k Lambo, albeit at 0-100 acceleration. Good job Tesla!
Electric cars always have more torque than gas cars thats why Tesla or rather any electric car with a dedicated sports mode would roast any other car in a drag race.
Not "always", it depends on the specification of the motor, kerb weight & design of the vehicle et al. A Tesla 3 won't come even close to an Aventador in terms of both acceleration as well as max speed. MB SLR 722 from 10 years ago would easily beat even a Tesla Roadster. Even though they are all electric, other than P90s and P100s of Tesla, no other model would "roast" the SLR. I get what you are saying though.

Makes me curious to know the cost of the annual fuel bill for both. :) In one Top Gear race a Lambo Murcialago managed only 4..2 mile distance with 1 UK gallon of petrol.
Those last runs with the low battery were also hurt by slow reactions by the driver. That last run in particular. I'd still buy the Tesla first every time.

Not really. If you read the ticket, his reaction times were all positive. The Model S would've won if the drivers had been equal.
Of course, we're talking fractions of a second...and a family sedan as opposed to a dedicated supercar...so the "real" winner is much more of a subjective detail here.

Terming most cross-over sedans an SUV is ludicrous. Electric cars will surely dominate drag racing in the future because of instant torque and the ability to electronically control the torque at each wheel to avoid slipping, which is the limiting factor in drag racing. But, the times shown here are not especially fast. One guy runs 10's in the 1/4 mile in an old Dodge Dart w/ slant-six engine (after adding a turbo-charger). Most drag racers make compromises which make them unsuitable for normal driving. A Lambo is not designed for drag racing.
Neither is a Tesla... and it is completely suitable for normal driving (unlike the lambo or POS Dodge Dart). Hell, the SUV can tow 5000lbs, seat 7, and still have some room for storage. It can do all that and then run neck and neck with a half million dollar purpose built supercar that weighs over a half ton less. Talk about an amazingly versatile vehicle.... Oh, and you can buy a P100D Model S and a P100D Model X and still have $200,000 in your pocket.

Not as if you could make an electric drag car. Instead of running the batteries in parallel serial banks you could run everything in parallel and have just about enough capacity to get to the end of the track a few times.
Then the difficulty would be wires not melting and a motor that could take that power. Oh and stoping the thing from flipping XD
