It's a crime that there are so many amazing musicians in this world but only a handful are ever truly recognized. Amazing performance by all involved.
I SO AGREE. I have thought of this many times. And then… all the very talented who, for a myriad of reasons, don’t become musicians at all (access, mental health, etc).
It’s so different from the original and it’s such an original cover; it actually sounds like a completely new song !
Thank you!
Grungyplatypus this is exactly what I thought
Its so nice to have a cover of this song that isn't just a rehash.
And I’m not completely sure that’s a good thing.
It is
can we take a moment to notice how beautifully the pianist played.. without a sheet. eyes where constantly shifting between the singer and him.
Actually excellent musicians all around.
Nice observation! Scott Bradlee himself, definitely one of those pianists who can do it all blindfolded and upside down. Insane. And started this all as a fun exercise with his buds because they love music that much. But a good reminder that there are many more performers up there than the singer. Who nails it as well. Everyone did!
Now we just need some underwater floaty silky footage and the next Bond intro is complete.
brooped Holy crap yes!!!!
Next james bond movie better include this song in it
This one is actually a better version of Smells Like Teen Spirit for Bond intro. czcams.com/video/t4VfaxeYOt8/video.html

Well, indeed.
This was the most classy five minutes of my life.
This is an homage that properly displays Cobain's song writing abilities. The man was not just an edgy punk but was a sensational word smith. Thanks Alisan Porter and PMJ for stirring myself and taking me down memory lane.
Kathleen, from bikini kill, actually wrote the phrase 'smells like teenspirit' on kurt's wall
Not to diss Cobain, but this is not an example of his being "a sensational word smith".
"A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido!" That's someone with a rhyming dictionary, not a master of lyric-writing. Again, this is not to diss ALL of Cobain's work, but this song is not exactly the pinnacle of poetry.
@@cameronsitton501The alcoholic drinks, The Mulatto, The Albino, and The Mosquito are present in the line. Alcohol is known to enhance the libido, hence "my libido".
Nevermind was originally called Anthem, and Kurt Cobain said this song (whether he meant it jokingly or not) was about a teenage revolution, so this line could be an allusion to teenage alcoholism and general drug usage with teens, which is still an ongoing problem.
It isn't mind blowingly deep, but it's likely more then someone with a rhyming dictionary. (Also, this isn't me saying "ACThuaLlY, DadDY KUrt wAs a GENIuTh", this is just me trying to say that maybe the line means something, even if unintentionally.)
I really love how PMJ makes music for people with a wide range of taste. The cover so many genres and iconic artists. I love so many genres, and I love to see them all blended with vintage style. Thanks PMJ. YOU ROCK!
Thank you so much, Sydney! Glad you like it! Have you seen us live yet? We have shows around the globe, check it out: pmjtour.com
On my bucket list :D
Sydney Johnson Well said, Sydney!
I think they just go for easily identifiable songs. Something a lot of people find accessible. The talent is in interpreting a diverse catalog into a style that's completely removed from the original.
In principle, I like that they make music, unfortunately what is being released to the masses today and occupies the music charts, conscience does not allow us to call it music.
Kurt was a tortured man. And this song as written and sung by him encapsulated so much of that. I feel the singer here captures a lot of that in her performance and does justice to the song. Great cover.
I personally obsessed not only with the cover, but also with the dress
Thanks for keeping the song just the right shade of dark, beautiful rendition.
You should check out the Swing Version by Robyn Adele Anderson
True, it sounds dark classical and I guess Kurt would like it.
He was a grunge artist. Why do you think he would like classical music?
Because he was not stupid?
Fergus MacLeod. So what? His first single was Love Buzz a cover from Shocking Blue. The leadsinger (Mariska Veres) of Shocking Blue made a lot of stuff even Jazz and Gypsy music. Great artists are seldom narrowminded.
I much prefer when you make the song fit the genre than when you try to make the genre fit the song... This was one of the better covers for that reason.
Way to sound profound but actually make no real sense.
@@BlownMacTruck The way he put it didn't make so much sense but basically he's saying that some of the covers don't fit the genre as much because they are too close to the original.
Smells Like Teen Spirit came out in 1991.
Curly Sue came out in 1991.
26 years later, Curly Sue sings Smells Like Teen Spirit.
sthenx0r woah
Mind blown!
i've just checked, and yah looks like its true, i'm quite impressed
i read "Curly Sue smells like teen spirit" lol
Had absolutely no clue that was her.
I' d bet Kurt is smiling that you guys gave this a honor of a classic cover. Blessings & this was sensational.
Never mind Kurt, I bet Dave would love this, and Krist would want to play accordion on it...
Orchestral grunge might be my new favourite genre
I grew up being a huge Nirvana fan and this doesn't sound anything like any other version have ever listened to. Omg what a voice, girl! I love the meaning and feel you give to the song. It's surprisingly good with that orchestra and style of melody too!
She put her heart and soul into that shit, so did the band.
Absolutely beautiful cover.
Awesome! It feels like a Bond movie intro
Patrick Harrigan exactly what I was thinking of, especially the parts with the drums playing more loudly
007: The Patch to Nirvana
A outstand thriller. The Queen's agent must unveil the true about an obscure secret weapon. A former
Nazi nightmare breed in the early cold war that gone horribly right before get discountinued due to it's volatility.
But can James Bond fight a enemy that is mostly a ghost?
Patrick Harrigan 300th like and 200th like on the next comment to you
Yes, you're right! A Bond movie intro. Not sure how Daniel Craig would smell like Teen Spirit, though :-)
Sounds like Feeling good by Michael bubble
Smells Good To Me My Talented Friends ❤️
Her voice is absolutely incredible
i'm back to this AGAIN. there's so much to like... the way she says 'whatever' at 3:59? the great dress. how does she have enough breath for that whole 'yeah' at 4:38? every time she drops the pitch in 'entertain us' i get chills. i don't know who i'm more attracted to, the singer or the double bass(?) player.
I love when the song is unrecognizable! I love Teen Spirit and this song is its own beautiful entity. ❤️
What an amazing arrangement/cover and the female vocalist absolutely killed it.
Head banging in the 60s 😎😎
Joe Yoon hihi, I sympathize ;-)
M Giar yeahhh
And breaking their neck because their hair was so big.
Ya kiddin’? I love them! Lol
Joe Yoon 200th like and 300th like on the comment next to you
Wow. I always hate Nirvana covers, never does Kurt justice. This is beautiful and haunting. Perfection.
I like Tori Amos covering Smells Like Teen Spirit, too...
The fact that this isn't one of pmjs most viewed videos is astounding, she's such an amazing singer and the orchestral music is so beautiful
Holy cow. What a set of pipes.
That's one way to put it.
i hate that this doesn't have a million views because its my all time favourite song that pmj's ever produced. alison porter's voice carries this song so beautifully, and the arrangement is brilliant. i loooove this
What's even more amazing than the cover itself is that it sends the songs massage even better than the original.
That instrumental break gave me chills to the spine.
Beyond amazing... Kurt gives you mad respect from the other place..
Alisan Porter is amazing. I fall in loving for her talent since I saw her at The Voice.
I get chills every time I watch this. Thanks PMJ. And in particular thanks Alison for this stunning rendition... the voice.
What a dress !
I appreciate this channel because it doesn't only make great covers, it also performs great shows to sit and watch! Look at vocal's hands! Great job, guys.
I can't stop watching these videos. It's been hours.
Nice to finally know the words of this song.
That was really something - loved the arrangement, the strings were knockout and Alisan was out of this world.
You guys are great. Thanks.
The breath control is amazing!
The way it was performed...the song actually made sense to me. Nice work!
Seriously, this is so AMAZNG! Thank You!
Such a voice! Thanks Alisan and all PMJ band for these vibes in my heart!
Whoa 😧....that was one of the best things I’ve ever seen.
When ever I see a new PMJ video, I not only am amazed by the experience, but appreciate how much work goes into it. The suitable venue selection, the sound and lighting, the filming, the costumes, the selection of musicians who have spent years studying and practicing, the song selection and arrangements. I never whine about concert ticket prices, professionals deserve every penny. Love your work.
this is amazing... i absolutely love the slow groove of this, that maintains the dark, passionate feeling of the original. i also am very impressed by the way you translated the musical motifs from the original into arrangements for this ensemble, especially the post chorus guitar riff
I just didn't knew I needed that, until I heard it... Amazing, so good...
one of the best jukebox interpretations! She truly made it her own.
I love the songs with this sort of orchestra behind it. This, seven nation army and creep are fantastic.
A touch of Aerosmith's "Dream On" there
I know, everybody know's.
wanted to put here that's i'm not being some obnoxious meanie. i just wanted to say "i thought so too", couldn't help shoehorning in a reference to the songs lyrics
Have you seen our version of Dream On?? czcams.com/video/Yq4KA0mUnC8/video.html
Yeah... I feeling some real strong Dream On vibes in this cover. The connection is probably stronger because I've seen that cover before though lol.
PostmodernJukebox yall should do the Immigrant song in a similar style as these two. Think that would be an awesome interpretation
@@postmodernjukebox Absolutely fantastic! Love it. Morgan is outstanding!
It's hard to cover Smells Like without something feeling lost. This was great
This cover is AMAZING!!! Please bring Alisan As much as you can, she is absolutely phenomenal!!! Have been playing this on repeat!
This song is like a journey, and it kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through! What a show!
Wait, this song has lyrics?
Patrick Hogan
It does. idiot
El Tio Brizu Yep, I was definitely being completely genuine. Nothing facetious here. I actually thought the vocal heavy song had no lyrics. You caught me.
What do *Dark Matter* and *Sarcasm On The Internet* have in common? Both are nearly impossible to detect...
There's Dark Matter on the internet?
Daxidol What's an internet....?
shes the winner of the voice
This is the best version ever! Who knew this song was so great and so deep. Can't get enough of this version.
honestly my first impression of this song wasnt the best. but it came up on my mix while i had headphones and i was honestly blown away. the way this woman sings has honestly left me in awe
One of my favourite songs of all time and I loved this version. Been playing PostmodernJukebox for last couple of hours after someone introduced the channel to me... epic! Loving it.
The depth of talent in this "group" is incredible, haven't heard a singer or musician yet that wasn't top notch.
This has been sitting in my watch later list for a while. I felt like the last few PMJ releases were lackluster and wasn't excited about hearing what I figured would be a disapointing take on one of my favorite songs. I am so glad I held onto it and finally gave it a listen! This was a truly captivating vocal performance and the arrangement for strings provides the perfect setting for a dark cover.
i love how you guys always do an awesome job coming up with your own arrangements of these tunes....always awesome outcomes
I have been waiting on this forever!!!❤️❤️
My favourite band of all time is Nirvana, I grew up with them and I liked this cover, even though I was very much skeptical. Congratulations!
I love Alisan so much. She deserved to be the winner of The Voice. 😍
Her voice lend this song such gravitas and a subtle power to it that just struck my soul.
Hotel California pleeeeaaaaassssseeee?
Yes please!
ps13215033 Yesss😍
Hell yeah ♥️
Would be nice, but The Eagles are notorious for charging outrageous license fees to play their songs and they sue often. I don't know if they still do it, but The Eagles wouldn't even allow their songs to be played on television at all, even for a fee, and I'm sure that would be true for CZcams too.
@@HermanVonPetri makes me wonder who they hoarding their material for if not for the fans? They mustn't of enjoyed the publicity all that much i imagine or perhaps they havent made enough $$$ in their half decade career which i find incredibly hard to believe is the case so with that being said im left with the forced conclusion that their ego's have severely clouded their judgement as there's nothing more selfish than 'stars' harassing an artist & fan for their 'cut' or crying foul over copyrights over a cover...
Like seriously why adopt such an attitude when your band is famous & has $$$ coming out their ass? They should be humbled & honored people still think they relevant enough to do covers of their tracks instead of getting on the line to the lawyers looking for their cut of the royalties...i mean ffs they'll still be paid royalties for up to 70 years after they die
Lmao this leaves me with the conclusion that The Eagles are just salty because everyone already knows PMJ is gonna outshine any original with minimal effort cause thats just how PMJ rollz
I love her voice😍
These arrangements never cease to amaze me.
I can't stop watching this. Such a polished performance from all concerned.
Goodness these people need to be on the Radio...... I like there versions of these songs better then the originals.... I am in love with this channel :)
this dress is a killer...
uhm yea, the song is great, too :)
indeed... very sexy dress
RSProduxx agree
After a few months of not watching the channel I was just catching up with what I'd missed, and I'm absolutely blown away by this performance.
More Alisan Porter please! Her voice is so soulful and powerful, and expressed so effortlessly! I found it really moving actually, which I didn't expect of a Nirvana cover. And of course the rest of the band and the arrangement were outstanding. Incredible, incredible performance.
Easily on a par with my previous favourite PMJ covers, Morgan James' "Take Me To Church" and Haley Reinhart's "Creep". I have a feeling I'll return to this video many many times! Thank you.
this is one of the most epic PMJ's. And thank you for the wide sound stage, it's exceptional!
About time you guys did this cover! 😍
It's amazing, isn't Claudia??
For real! We've waited a long time for this banger.
I love this version so different to the original and it has a lot of feel
Best The Voice winner ever. Alisan has sick vocals. Awesome arrange, perfect vocals. Nice job guys!
this is the most beautiful cover i have heard of this song and it a wonderful way to start my day thank you so much, i would love to sing on PMJ someday
Do 'Exit Music (for a Film)' from Radiohead and im the most happiest Person on earth
They'd do amazing with any Radiohead song
In love with this💞
Great song, and excelente interpretation .... Quality triumph over time
It is so beautiful that i cried. Finest pieces of music y'all doing. Thank you.
the chills over my entire soul as she sings this.
Finally a rock song!
We have a Metallica cover! Have you seen it? czcams.com/video/KSSa0-oAnIo/video.html
they did a cover for My Hero recently
*Grunge (Call me a fake internet music master because that’s exactly what i am)
What about Stacy's Mom? That was also a great cover.
Buttz Nutzz grunge is a type of rock you idiot
This has such a Wednesday Addams dark goddess vibe and I love it
Wowwwww... I really love it! This is sooo awesome!!! Also love the piano arrangement so much.
I love your style so much, man. Everyone's on point... amazing job people.
Can you do a 30s version of Believer by Imagine Dragons?
Yeessss. just so much yes
OMG! NO ONE COULD ROCK THIS SONG LIKE HER IT HAD TO BE ALISAN PORTER! Please moreeeeeeee!
Absolute and total Perfection on every level. A masterpiece.
June 2019: I can't believe this video only has 1.7M views.
The Nirvana version has energy like flood. This one is like all the water from the flood contained in dam. But the great thing is you can still feel it.
Impossible to make a better cover than this one... Just incredibily beautiful...
The singer is amazing but those instrumentals are just enchanting. Very professional and gave a beautiful sound.
Kurt Cobain is smiling wherever he is~
He
He
Heaven
This was exactly the cover I thought you should do just a few days ago D:
I think this just jumped to the top of my favorite PMJ songs! ♥
my goosebumps have goose bumps... Alisan i love you
Finally!
Being a huge Nirvana fan, I was scared... But WOW!
Astounding. Where they keep finding such phenomenal singers? Alisan is superb and this is a great version
this is so damn powerful hearing this song I grew up with. Thank you PMJ for this luxuriously decorated arrangement.
I would love to see you guys do some death meal covers
Video Games Made Me Do It lol, death meal?
Gospel version of "Disciple"? Oops, that's thrash, nvm...
Duct Tape yes, but you wrote meal. I would love them to do some more metal other than just Babymetal
So what like a poisoned chicken sandwich?
Maybe not death metal, something like paradise lost would be more manageable
