The orchestra does a MAGNIFICENT job emulating the wild crashing guitar work of the original towards the end! To see him proclaiming "a mosquito, my libido" it's a riot!
A terrific arrangement too. It can change the song into something completely different. I was just playing X Files in an orchestra and the conductor made it sound like Morricone.
He is a Great singer but he just sounds like Frank Sinatra and they are both incredibly easy to imitate. There are a lot of men today who sound Exactly like them.
"determined not to like it" L.O.L.! 😄🗯️ I'm glad that Paul's massive talent pried open your previously closed mind. I love a great cover of a great song!
When working late setting up at show stand at the NEC b'ham, was playing my tracks on sound system, this came on... a couple of youngish stand fitters came over said "turn off this old crap, put on some rock".. they then heard the lyrics! and stayed for the rest of the song...singing along as well!
Your opinion is objectively wrong if we're going to go by the definition of "best," according to the form you used, and the general accepted considerations of what's best. Even if you don't like the style he sings, I think it's pretty ignorant to act like covering I guess a song you really like is the best a guy's got. Unnecessarily disrespectful, just keep it to yourself next time.
This was great! I'm a tremendous fan of the original - I never get tired of listening to Nirvana - but this is what a cover of someone elses can be at its best. Its a totally different take on the song - it swings instead of rocks, etc, but it has its own integrity. Of course, its totally ironic which is something Nirvana understood, too - but from a different angle. This also felt sleazy, but in a really good way.
Me too. I was blown away. You can tell this wasn't tossed off. Whether you like swing or not, the musicianship is aces all the way. He does the song proud and totally owns.
IMHO...this version is coool! You can imagine this song like cigarette smoke... spreads in the air, and follows... the beat, arrangement, style, voice & instruments - sounds great :) good job.
The test of a song's greatness is the variety of interpretation to which a given song lends itself. Curt would totally dig this. Bet me. Fantastic horn arrangement. This rocks Alaska!
I agree, impassioned arguments must be used, especially in the face of so much adversity. I find it all hard to believe, but stranger things have happened. Thanks for posting, I'll keep an eye out on this story.
I love Nirvana, and yet I also love this song. How? It's shocking, the dissonance, of the styles, and attitudes. The very idea that someone like Paul Anka would even think to cover this song is mind-blowing. Which means that either the joke is on Anka for thinking that he of all people could get this song by this man. Or maybe its Paul who knows how un-cool he is and this is his joke. The that I can't still decide, is yet another reason why I love this song.

the sheer thought of paul anka covering teen spirit is so freaking weird, and somehow it still slaps
So hard to .like this shouldn't work but it does
Well said
My libido 🤭
A good song is always a good song.
A terrific arrangement too. It can change the song into something completely different. I was just playing X Files in an orchestra and the conductor made it sound like Morricone.
Kurt looking down with the biggest smile on his face
Nah he hated the song, he is screaming
Kurt looks up.
@@KpoyT 👹🤔
Cobain loved jazz, so he must be happy@@sprangbonnie869
Kurt didnt like the song
this is classic. the man is an incredible singer. he is a legend in our times. Timing, power, artistry, no one today can touch him!
He is a Great singer but he just sounds like Frank Sinatra and they are both incredibly easy to imitate. There are a lot of men today who sound Exactly like them.
NO ONE SINGS LKR SINATRA. THE ATTITUDE
@@KinseliplierPaul Anka wrote songs for Frank Sinatra. My Way for example.
@@jvelez5381 yes they do. Seth McFarland and Micheal Buble sound Exactly like Sinstra
@@makipri Really?
was determined not to like this.... but darn you Mr. Anka, I can't help but love it!!!! The album is amazing and kep recommending it to everyone!
I know, right?!
"determined not to like it"
L.O.L.!
😄🗯️
I'm glad that Paul's massive talent pried open your previously closed mind. I love a great cover of a great song!
This is awesome. It seems like a moment in some surreal, futuristic, and dystopian film.
Fantastic performance, Brilliant Style! LOVE this jazzy version!
“Mom can we have Nirvana”
“No we have Nirvana at home”
Nirvana at home:
🤣
Hey stupid that joke only works if the cover sucks
Its good though
Es correcto!
When Paul Anka covers it you know it's better than good.
When working late setting up at show stand at the NEC b'ham, was playing my tracks on sound system, this came on... a couple of youngish stand fitters came over said "turn off this old crap, put on some rock".. they then heard the lyrics! and stayed for the rest of the song...singing along as well!
I was never a fan of Paul Anka, but this was truly brilliant! The best thing he ever did, IMO.

you’re the one who is being unnecessarily disrespectful. Get over yourself.
If Paul Anka has covered any of your songs, you're official.
Are you kidding? It's brilliant!
I am surprised how much I like this!
Gotta say... not a massive Nirvana fan myself, but Mr Anka makes this song sound fantastic. It's fantastic.
Paul Anka rocks! Takes chances! I sure can't hear Fabian doing this! He's a constantly reviving performer. Rock on, Anka!
a master of music, to change a Cobain song into this is brilliant!
I love this, I can certainly undestand why people don't, BUT one thing that all must agree on, this band is awe inspiring. Damn they swing.
Este tipo me ha conquistado. Gracias Paul!!! Kurt agradecido desde el más allá...
The trombones on this are much better than the studio album, which is saying something for a live performance.

How a legend makes a rock music sounds so Jazzy.
So much awesomeness for one Canadian to be born with! Right up there w/ his cover of Black Hole Sun! :)
The original version by Soundgarden was trippy; their music video for it, even more so! Paul Anka did a great job on that one!
My favourite sentimental song...
I'm so young and you're so old.... Smells Like Teen Spirit... Paul Anka & Big Band Arrangement are off the charts!! 💃🏻🕺🏻🍷🍷♑♋
Genius level! Love every note of this composition!
Truly an artist that lives and breathes music, he didn't just cover a song, he danced with it.
Absolute Brilliantine in this Version! Bravo Mr. Paul Anka!
Great song whatever the style, NIRVANA Timeless 🤘💀
Absolutely wonderful! I agree at least now you understand the lyrics. Paul is fabulous!
Me too. I was blown away. You can tell this wasn't tossed off. Whether you like swing or not, the musicianship is aces all the way.

When he started singing I burst into laughing, not because its bad, but I just never would of thought hearing this song sung this way.

This is amazing cover! Brilliant!

Wow, I actually liked this.
Well I can finally understand the words. How hip is this? Paul Anka knocking it out of the park.
nice music! not like nowadays! i love old music from the 1950s through the 1970s. nothing like it. great talent.
I agree, impassioned arguments must be used, especially in the face of so much adversity. I find it all hard to believe, but stranger things have happened. Thanks for posting, I'll keep an eye out on this story.

Nirvana....💥🔥
This is actually quite good lol :D
It's true, why give him thumbs down? It's a different verison. It's also a good one in that way

...or maybe he just a singer who likes to sing. Music is important to me, but guess what? this is just a song.
he seemed to enjoy himself. this song has put smiles on millions of people, including myself. Worth it I'd say. Awesome voice.
A gutter punk then cranking this in a luxury convertible today is magical and I hope common.
The thing is, I believe he knows a dirty word!
That's because you're looking at the music, not listening to it.
