the first guy I personally think was brilliant, he came off quirky and used it to make you pay attention and show off all his vocal abilities. while some people may not like this version (personally I do and I cant justify it...) it was a brilliant idea seen as it worked on 2 judges
Didn't like his version at all, but it was wonderfully efficient: showcasing your vocal package, versatility and wits in a good minute or so.

i personally like his simplistic technique but display of raw emotion, these people were very refined, i dont like them simply because that's not my taste of music. Great performances, and people putting Kurt on a pedestal is literally the opposite of what his message was. I hate those people man.

I have a feeling Kurt would have loved the first guy. The first man was fun to watch fun to listen to and he changed the song making It his own. That’s pretty rad I couldn’t make a nirvana song mine like that. He did that. So I think Kurt would probably smile and chuckle watching him. The guy wasn’t too bad I’m smiling because of how fun he was to watch perform.

Grant Mcroberts In shows like the voice, they want the singer to change some things to show off their personality, flavor, and ability. They are looking for someone who can sing a Nirvana song without just trying to copy all his little mannerisms.

Guys, "cover" means there's got to be a difference with the original. Of course, you may not like it but It's a competition and an entertainment show. People MUST do something different to make themselves "the one person" in the competition. And I agree with most of you some songs are only perfect in their own genre but there's no harm in difference. All I'm saying is just we need to be respectful. Constructive criticism.

@@hithere2426 why? Music is inherently subjective to the listener. I love grunge, Nirvana and Alice in Chains are some of my favorite bands. But I can hardly hate on someone's interpretation and gatekeep a whole genre
Only thing is like this whole video just shows how all these people really go against everything Kurt would have wanted. It’s music made into a contest, all overprocessed, perfectly executed, and just generally misinterprets the songs intended message. There’s a reason why Kurt hated this song. It’s sheer popularity created a disconnect between the artist and the listener that stopped the listener from really beginning to understand what the song is supposed to mean. Smells like teen spirit was written as a counterculturist anthem of not caring, doing things poorly and sloppily. It doesn’t involve some dumbass cinematic pianos, reverbed vocals, or any quality of musicianship at all. These aren’t covers. Obviously, a cover doesn’t have to be exactly like the real song, but you at least need to be capturing the same energy. None of these people are doing that. If Kurt was alive today and he saw this, he would laugh his ass off and then probably get really, really pissed.

First dude gave it his lil twist so that they can know how good his vocal abilities are and the third dude is absolute fucking amazing. His is more energetic but the absolute original essence of the song is still in it.

I think this song in the way it was originally written is great at showing kurts way of putting so much energy into his vocals yet still being relaxed
compared to Kurt, they all sucked...... and the funny thing is that they all are probably more trained vocally. Kurt had something beyond technicality, something that can't be reproduced. To this day I've never heard a version of SLTS that comes close.

Kurt Cobain was using drugs such as heroin to cope with the demons of mental illness. If you're not channelling his pain, anguish, and misery, you're not singing Nirvana. I have worked with hundreds of musicians over the past 20 years. Kurt was not a great technical musician, but he could embody the concept of "three chords and the truth" like no other musician of his generation.

Aparte no estoy en contra de que cambiase la canción porque es cover solo que weon cuál es la necesidad de cambiar una canción con la cual no va tu voz?? Voz plana, tempo lento o sea si quieres enseñar tu voz tenías muchas mejores canción que esa y no solo aferrarte a la popularidad y esperar tener un lazo afectivo entre la canción y el juez por ser conocidas loco también deberías valorar las decisiones tomadas en las canciones. Escogiste una canción nada acordé a tu voz o lo que querías mostrar.

I think that was the whole point of her performance. The shaky, trembling, cracking, sad voice was adding emotion to it like it was being sung by a depressed person. The way her specific voice fits the piano. That is just the way I interpreted it though
