If you're someone who travels internationally Google maps is the only way to go. My wife and I have planned several trips and were able to find locations, create a list of our itinerary and use all kinds of transportation. Also, if you're getting a rental and driving around, it greatly helps because you may not be able to read the directions on the signs, but navigation will still give you the visual cues. However, Waze is looking interesting for when I'm back here at home in the US

Waze will send you down side streets during periods of heavy inner-city traffic, whereas Google Maps will just point you down main arterial roads and give you the time delay for your route. Due to this feature, Waze is pretty popular with Uber drivers who want to keep their customers happy rather than sitting in traffic, and this is especially true for taxi drivers due to the meter running while sitting in traffic.

Something that Google Maps has that no other maps apps has, is showing POIs on the map, while you are navigating. Start navigation to somewhere, then tap the search magnifying glass icon, search for a POI, like petrol stations. Then tap "Re-center". The navigation continues, while all the POIs are still visible along the way. It is convenient because you don't even need to enter the POI as a destination, once it shows up on the path, in your view, just detour to it.

It would also be interesting to see how each app compares with redirecting based on live traffic, because this can use data from other people who are using the app and other sources, and I find Google is very good at finding the fastest route when there is bad traffic or road closures.

These three are still much more better compared to what Ford Focus has to offer. Their built in navigation system will actively guide you off the high way, just to send you back to the high way within 50 meters. No, it does not behave like this to avoid toll roads. It is just very badly designed. We had to use Google Maps or Garmin many times just to be sure where the built in navigation started to suggest ridiculous roads. 😂

One thing I learned in this video is how different Google Maps navigation is outside the US. In the US, Google Maps navigation would be rated about a 14. A lot of things that didn't exist do exist here. Waze still has a slight edge, though.

Wise used to show nearest parking to any direction but now it has removed it. This was one of the most important features to me. I live in Sharjah. When I go to Dubai to any place I get very worried to find proper parking place or route. Because just because we are near a building it doesn't mean we can park. For example before when I wrote Dubai mall then it showed nearest parking automatically and asked me to choose a parking place. But now it randomly select place like Google maps. I just don't understand why they did that. I use yango maps for unknown place in the UAE and waze for known parking place.

Google maps has a much broader usage on multiple smart devices and is more known and available to others comparing to the others. Thus, giving it the higher hand in user experience and interactions. Plus, Google Maps has better traffic flow colour indicators which Waze and Apple Maps cannot compete with because, again, more users.
Here’s a tip if you use CarPlay or Android Auto in your car’s screen. Run both Google Maps AND Waze and let Waze run in the background of Google maps. This way, you will get better speed camera distance indicators from Waze whilst using a better Map experience from Google Maps

    Apple for driving.
Apple uses Traffic lights as a point of reference in the voice promts which is a feature I will never want to miss ever again and makes navigation in a city much more easier.
Google is often missing closed roads in germany. Especially short term closures. Since Apple relies on Tomtom for traffic data here its much more accurate on that. I noticed this multiple times now where google was missing a closure that was happening because of an event. Apple maps had that closure in the traffic data and I reported it on waze which also didn’t had it in yet.

Waze use experience is heavily rely on the user base. In my country there are not enough people using waze, so the traffic condition will not be reported and updated as i wanted to. The biggest impact is the ETA, it’s just too inaccurate. Another downside of waze is for me the voice prompts are a little bit too slow, which makes me miss the corner a lot of times.

So, I used to be a FedEx Courier, I still kidna am, except I drive a semi truck for them now, but when I had 100+ stops a day in the part of the city I didn't know too well I would just type in each address on a map app really quickly. When I had an iPhone I tested each one of these apps.
Waze was too clunky, and slow. It physically slowed down the number of stops per hour I delivered. It's only good for long road trips.
Apple Maps was just not reliable enough. It wouldnt pinpoint a lot of places, or was off quite a bit, or would have me turn down wrong streets to get to an address, such as going behind a building instead of out-front. It also would always display the screen even when i would just lock the device and listen to directions to save battery.
Google Maps on the other hand was way quicker, I could type in an address and get navigating in a matter of seconds. It had so much more info about the world, it knew the location and address of almost anything, even in neighourhoods that didn't exist yet on the map, it was so much more reliable. I ended up being one of the fastest couriers on route because of how quick Google Maps was. It wasn't without fault here and there of course, but none of the other navigation apps even came close.

Apple gives lane assist instructions in the UK and the diagrams of complex junctions are better, especially in London.
Waze does let you have offline maps
Apple and google do use crowdsourcing.
Apple’s graphics are more detailed than Waze and Google
Waze and to a larger extent google tell you that the route found is x minutes longer than usual due to traffic, but Apple doesn’t do that
Apple Maps tells you when there’s a better route (due to less traffic) and tells you what that route is, Waze doesn’t, it just says ‘we’ve found a better route’
I find that Apple Maps won’t reroute if there’s only a small amount of time saving but the route is more complex, depending on time saved. It’s just more conservative than Waze
Overall, I use both Waze and Apple Maps, they’re both brilliant, give accurate routes and are easy to use. I live in the UK

Firstly, it is essential to acknowledge that Waze is not a social media platform. Its primary goal is to provide navigation services, and it remains dedicated to fulfilling this purpose.
Secondly, it is important to clarify that Google acquired Waze, possibly with the intention of preventing it from rendering Google Maps obsolete or discontinuing the development of the Waze app. Additionally, Google leverages Waze's strengths and expertise in specific areas to enhance the overall Maps navigation experience for its native app.

    Hello,
I must say that I have some disagreements with some points of this review.
Not sur that it is fair to compare Waze for something else that navigation as it is its main focus.
For navigation, I must say that I do not completely agree with this comparaison.
I can only write about Google Maps and Waze as I do not have an iPhone.
Google maps shows lane assist in Belgium, France and Luxembourg.
I also see regularely on main roads, in these contries, the speed limit. But I admit that it is not always the case for smaller roads.
In France Google also shows the price of fuel on the map. It is not always the case.
As far as I know, Google crushes Waze for waypoint. So far i have only been able to have one waypoint on Waze while I can have 9 (plus the final destination) with Google Maps (which for me is essential for road trips).
About being able to report problem along the way, this was indeed a strong point of Waze (but is it really safe to do this while driving?).
Lately, on the lower right corner of Google Maps , I have seen accasionaly a new button (a sort of triangle) that was not there before. This appeaes to be a screen to report problems
But it does not appear all the time.
For exploring, I do not find it fair to give the same amount of points for Google and Waze as Google allows you more. For example, Google allows you to directly reserve some restaurant and even in some case to chat with them.
    Thanks
