As I understand the delay and sttuders are general experience, the device seems to have a really hard time for some reason even tho is a remote one. Also the wifi conectivite is really poor, a lot of people complain how you can be in your house with your private router and the PS Portal won't pick up or have even worst performance. Not to mention it doesn't have a web browser so if you need to go into a web page to input credentials you won't be able to. Also for the prize of the device that type of issues are inexcusable imo.

If they improve on the connectivity and add add more internal Wi-Fi antennas It would help substantially.. adding some type of link ability that can be used over internet would make for a better connectivity I think they try to do that but it's just not working as consistently across the board with everybody and their internet connection the way it should..

@@Darrakkii That's what I'm telling people people forget that the PSP was $249 if you go look and do a quick Google search and see how much $249 is as of today it's $391 you take the extra ability that the dual sense brings to this device a bigger screen which is almost double the size of the PSP and a 1080p display this thing would be close to $450 probably..
People are saying that they would have wanted to be that but the reality is at that price point you might as well just get the steam deck... It wouldn't be selling as much as it is right now and that's almost pretty much a given..

Part of the reason for the failure is almost no advertisement. When the PSP came out, I saw the commercials on TV numerous times. Proprietary memory cards are another. There was no such damn thing as SD 2 Vita when the Vita came out so shut your hole on that. Another reason is it launched at a time smartphones were getting popular. You should test remote play on a dedicated network with only your PS5 and Portal connected to it. Having a robust router means nothing if you have A. all of your home devices connected to it B. All of the devices operating on the same wifi channel and C. Your neighbors on the same wifi channel. PS% does not support wifi 6 so make sure its all connected to a 5 GHz network set to a channel no other networks are operating at. You can use a wifi analyzer app

I use the steam deck as essentially my pc because of how terrible the prices are on gaming pc parts now. It runs the mihoyo gacha games and Tof fairly well on Dual boot windows but settings are on the lower end as max is unplayable.
I find the steam deck overheats which causes more lag and more issues and their isn’t any perfect cooling solutions so that’s another downside. The controls for unsupported games like Genshin are terrible if you want to use the devices built in controller and requires weird downloads to make it functioning.
All this to say is I think PlayStation portal is a cool little option for comfy gaming and has a lot more support for games from mihoyo and similar games.

See most people don't think like that It's like well this thing doesn't do what I wanted to do so it's useless..
The reality that a lot of a lot of people aren't thinking about is inflation, The PSP was $249 with a close to half the size screen and only 480x272 resolution. If you do a quick Google on the average yearly inflation since 2005 it comes up 1.56% You do the math that's at $392 device in 2023 because of inflation and not the $249 that people are remembering..
Not to mention the device has a full capability of a dual sense controller I'm sure Sony will probably sell it for $425 to 450 then people would be complaining about the price..

    • @zeronin4696

A steam deck will NEVER replace a gaming pc. Its physically impossible to get over gtx 1060, max gtx 1660 performance with the current battery and cooling technology, not to mention the really really bad work of optimization from game devs for the last 10 years. Like if mihoyo would actually work on a steam deck support it would run much smoother but they dont care abt tinkering in the anti cheat software. I mean hell the mobile version can even run smoothly on android devices...
But in general people's expectations are all overboard and then blaming handhelds for what they are. The steam deck runs barely performance hungry games and the majority of ppl use it to play indie games, emulation etc. For triple A titles you still need a gaming pc and use the remote play feature to stream it on the deck

Uh what? I agree pc prices aren't the best, but a steamdeck is like 400$, no? You can easily build a decent budget gaming pc with brand new components with that money, pay 30$ for a keyboard+mouse kit and use your tv as a monitor and you're all set. A rx6600+ryzen 5 3600 pc would be the same price, or maybe slightly more than, the steamdeck. Yet it packs much more power and all that. Steamdecks are great, but I wouldn't say its an option if you can't buy a gaming pc. You can definitely get a gaming pc for the same price.
Just checked amazon prices. RX 6600 is 189$, ryzen 5 3600 is 109$, b450m mobo is 69$, 16gb 3200mhz ram kit is 35$, 1tb ssd is 54$, power supply is 55$ and a pc case is around 50$. Total is around 560, round it up to 600$ with the keyboard and mouse. The new oled steamdeck (the cheaper one) is 569$ (I'm not comparing it to the old 350$ one because I used newer pc parts as well, otherwise i could've put in a 1660 and drop the price in half), so you're only paying 30$ more for a much more performant pc that can play any game in 1080p without a problem. You could get a pc with the same performance for like 300$ at most, so this whole "I use steamdeck because pc too expensive" doesn't make any sense when a pc can actually be cheaper

Most people aren't advanced users and for somebody who's been remote playing for closer 2 years now I can tell you that there's a lot of small tips that really help with your overall experience.
Unplugging the HDMI that's connected to your PlayStation 5 believe it or not it's still trying to process audio and video for whatever reason
Make sure you're a PS5 is in performance mode
Turning off HDR and dropping the resolution down to 1080p
Make sure your PS5 has a static IP address and port forwarding..
Some people will say the average router nowadays is supposed to do what forwarding is supposed to help you with but that's not always the case and it can really help.
The average casual gamer who buys this thing and has issues is not going to know anything about aesthetic IP address or port forwarding they should have really made this device easier to connect and focus on the stability of the connection before releasing this product..

I totally agree with your statement and tips. Most users don’t know this and probably are blaming their WiFi speed, router, or overall say the device it’s broken. That’s not the case. Other users are also saying doing these steps fixes the performance considerably. I’m still waiting for mine to arrive but will definitely try all these settings and see. Sony really needs to send a firmware update addressing this asap.

@@25syns yeah You're probably going to see a lot more updates within the next two or three months with the portal to allow smoother gameplay.. when when the steam deck first came out they had issues as well that's why you have verified and unverified games basically games that are that have been tweaked to play over cloud.
I was talking to one of my IT friends and he brought up a good point when I asked him I wonder why I PlayStation didn't include any type of direct connection link and he said cuz it could open themselves up.

You know is crazy to me how they had so many good ideas and got it so right on psp and psvita when they couldn't accomplish all and now they are just not doing it. Like back in the day when they didn't have resources necessary to do stuff they tried and push there limit and now when they are way past the limit there not even gonna try and recreated and improve? Like what?

The battery life sounds pretty good considering it's a TV strapped to a DualSense controller. Those controllers have horrendous battery life. I guarantee if their battery life were better, this battery would be more in line with what you were hoping for.

If you’re still using CAT 5 cables on your network and expecting the Portal to work for you, it’s your fault. People don’t take the time to make the changes to their networks and then complain. Upgrade your cables and connect your PS5 via a lan cable. CAT 8 cables are cheap and improve performance exponentially

Bruv, note to everyone... PS portal is COMPLETE WASTE if your goal is to just play and want a handheld device. Getting a ROG Ally or Legion Go is much better since its an actually stand alone handheld and can play all your PC games legitimately.
Steamdeck can work as well if you want to play Genshin and Star Rail, however you do have to dual-boot Windows and its not as optimal. Sony threw hard, they could have just made an actual PS handheld rather than remoter play.
