The short answer is that Playstation Portal is Sony’s new accessory for Playstation 5. It does nothing on its own and requires a PS5 and wifi to start a remote play session. It enables you to enjoy your games wherever there is a decent wifi available.
Thanks for tuning in, I hope you find the video helpful!

Doesn’t make much sense making all of the use over internet, where it could have been using local connection to reduce lag and latency
True, I actually tested this by blocking my ps5 on local network, and you guessed it, did not work
@@shinthegeek I hope that this is a kind of thing that they could "improve" via firmware update. I wonder the technical decision behind it (I guess, streamline the development, relying in only one process via internet, instead of two one via internet and one via local area network). Thanks for your review! This still looks like an intriguing option.
@@ramseyrodriguez8515 I agree, implementing all this via local network will greatly increase the response time and reliability, not sure about the technicalities though
I think I know why they did this. They are gonna add game streaming and it will be linked to your account. To fix this they should let you signout to connect over the network.
@@mitchelljenkins4815 interesting to see how that will turn out to be
So with me always traveling and using remote play on the go, one thing nobody mentions on every portal video is the connivance of not having to pair your controller to your iphone/ipad and than turning around and having to pair it back to the consol. especially with having just two controller and having someone come over to game...not much of a headache but defiantly an inconvenience. You could go the route of buying a third controller but for $70 for just remote play is crazy. The back bone just didn't cut it for me, anything flat serviced where it has to awkwardly sitting in my hand to play is not the greatest way of enjoying a game session, not to mention having texts/calls coming through interrupting game play. Great video by the way. Refreshing to watch someone appreciate it rather than bash it like 90% of CZcams videos.
There is no doubt that the portal provides the best remote play experience.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Great video. Very helpful!
Thabk you Ramin joon
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for watching
Did you ever have trouble connecting to your PS5 while on the go? I left my PS5 on rest mode and when I try to access it on the Portal via my phone’s hotspot I keep getting an error. Otherwise it’s a great device. Thanks for the informative video!
No I have not experienced this, but it’s imaginable, it’s heavily dependent on the internet connection.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Great review!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thabk you
Noticed with mine it works a lot better when on the 2.4ghz WiFi than 5ghz. No connection issues since I changed over
Thanks for sharing this. yes sometimes it helps especially if your PS5 is a bit far from the wireless router because 2.4GHz waves travel further compared to 5Ghz might get weaker by the time they reach the PS5.
I find that if possible it is best to connect PS5 to network using LAN cable.
Great review 👌👌👌
Thank you for watching
So many out there including with super strong and reliable WiFi connection are having massive issues. I'll be returning my PS5 Slim console tomorrow. Perhaps version 2.0 on PS6 will iron out connection / drop out issues. Sounds like you are one of the lucky Portal owners
I find that wiring the ps5 greatly improves the connection quality.
@shinafifloo Just watched a handy video on CKid channel about that (Ethernet / hard wire to console from router) but also apparently if you disconnect your HDMi cable from the console that also improves the signal and latency. Something to do with the cable sending 4K signal to the TV whislt Portal then struggles. Why I don't know exactly but alot of Portal users are using this hack with improved connection & latency. Another hack for adding ANY Bluetooth headset is connecting a dongle to the console itself turning down the volume on the Portal and changing settings within the Portal which then gives you the ability to use ANY BT headset! Another someone mentioned is just to use a 3.5mm BT Adaptor and pair your BT headphones to that Adaptor although there is slight latency/lagging. Wouldn't surprise me if Gneshi (Switch BT Adaptor) are already on to this as a fix which will ruffle Sony's feathers as they want exclusively their Pulse series the only headgear to work on the Portal. I might hold onto the PS5 afterall if this in deed does work.
@@davidfromdownunder oh i did not know about these. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼
Although I won't be going to those drastic measures, I'll wait for version 2.0 when all issues are resolved with WiFi 6 capabilities (Perhaps that'll come with the PS5 Pro or PS6 in 2027 or beyond) I'll just remain patient
@@davidfromdownunderwaiting for the perfect gadget never comes to an end. I know the portal is not perfect, but it already delivers so much and is definitely worth trying out if you have the option.
great review
Thank you for watching 👍🏻
Can't wait till they restock and have some available. I need one. As a father of 4 they always want to he on my TV and it's perfect for me to play and lay on the bed and still walk around amd handle my father business at home. I need it asap
I hope you get your hands on one soon 🙏🏼
So many people misunderstand that fast wifi and stable wifi are two drastically different things.....
Hige difference. 50mbps stable is better than 5gbps unstable wifi
Thanks.
Thank you for watching
👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the visit
Say I was visiting family, and they had a strong WiFi connection, I could connect the portal to my PS5 from their network?
Yes, as long as you do not turn off the ps5, and both the ps5 and the portal have internet access
@@shinthegeek Great thanks
@@benlovemusicuk my pleasure
It looks like it really depends on your WiFi. This is the only positive review, where the reviewer has "average user" WiFi speeds.
True, it really helps if PS5 is wired to internet
So wait, when you turn on the ps5 portal does it automatically turn on the ps5? And will it turn off the ps5 when you turn off the portal?
No, turning the portal on does not turn on the ps5. The portal can only wake the ps5 up from rest mode.
Also turning the portal off does not turn the ps5 off, it only disconnects from ps5. Depending on the ps5 settings, it will go into rest mode after a while.
@@shinthegeekso if i would be playing in bed i can't turn off my PS5 from my bed or put it back in rest mode with the portal?
Yes if you are playing in bed with the portal, you can turn off your ps5 or put it in rest mode. But if you turn off ps5, you wont be able to turn it on with the portal.
It really is a good device and works perfectly and just for 225 euro I can stream my games and play comfortable
True, anyone who has it is happy with it. Thanks for watching
But is the ps portal worth it than the Nintendo switch?
I do not believe they are comparable, Portal is just an accessory to the PS5
What games you playing?
Humanity, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Far Cry 6 🙏🏼
good 👌🏻
Thanks buddy 👍🏻
What if u get stick drift ?
That is not gonna be easy to repair
@@user-ce1nd8zr6q thanks for the tip
I returned my PlayStation portal, the fact that you can’t even use web browser or put a SIM card in is just stupid and defeats the entire purpose, now I just use an iPad + a back bone and it’s perfect, cheaper and way better than the portal.
I am glad you found a setup that works for you and you are happy playing. That’s all matters
Ooof mobarake
🙏🏼🤎
It's the new wii u 😂
Except with much worse latency and the Wii u came out 10 years ago 😂
@@noticeddamian I know jajajaja
waht did others not tell me? Clickbait!👎
It was true at the time the video was uploaded
Laughing......
Thanks for laughing 😆
Yes let’s pay $200 + tax for a controller with a screen LOL.
No OLED, No Apps, No Web browser, No Bluetooth, No streaming, Horrible speakers -it’s not even portable!
Sony cash grab to compete w/iPhone/Android/Steam.
All that is true. It really depends on what you expect from it
$139 would be a more appropriate price for this accessory.
Thumbnail is baiting….

Why your thumbnail a female
My wife and I took a bunch of photos of the device and this one turned out good
