    As a bisexual person, it didn't even cross my mind for a SECOND that anywhere in the last video there was an implication of bisexual people being cheaters. It's like people saying that when there is gay representation in media it has to be all sunshine and rainbows or it's homophobic. As if failed gay relationships or bad/toxic gay people didn't exist. The problem is there ONLY when it's specified that the person/relationship is bad/toxic/whatever BECAUSE of it being nonheteronormative.

      To be fair, it is a stereotype that gay and straight people use as a excuse to say "I won't date bisexuals because they are cheaters" or any other biphobic thought. Just because you haven't experience it doesn't mean it's not happening. I have seen that nonsense online and those people refuse to admit they are being biphobic when they say that.

    It's not biphobia. You made no relation between the cheating and the Sim being bi. That was just made up by viewers.
    I'm aware of the stereotype surrounding it and I think it's good to be mindful about it but people also shouldn't cancel stories where for example a bisexual Sim is a cheater.

    • @teufela8822
      @teufela8822 Před rokem +13

      There doesn't need to be an explicit relation between being bi and cheating for it to rub people the wrong way. It's the small things that perpetuate these harmful stereotypes.
      I have been watching Marticore on both of her channels for years, so I knew she probably didn't do it on purpouse. But still, I didn't like the story of a bisexual person "exploring" their sexuality by cheating (which I'm pretty sure was the scenario in the old video, I don't remember exactly, but it doesn't matter now)
      Besides, biphobic stereotype wasn't even the main reason she re-did the video, so it's not like some chronically online snowflakes made her delete her hard work over a honest mistake...

    • @Hendrik_McSims
      @Hendrik_McSims Před rokem +44

      @@teufela8822 But then the next question is where do you draw the line? There are a number of stereotypes even outside the LGBTQ+ area and if we go as far as making such small little details responsible for spreading those stereotypes it's increasingly difficult if not impossible to entertain or even just to inform people about small game mechanics. You can't expect one person to know them all and I honestly believe especially in terms of cheating it's somewhat inevitable to make a certain type of person portrayed as bad as Sims are a simulation of people.

      @@teufela8822 from what I remember the scenario was 2 friends were hanging out, and one thing led to another and they ended up making out.

      @fkaciggs Před rokem +24

      @@teufela8822 Wait so hang on a second - how can it rub you the wrong way if you don't even remember it? I find it hard to believe you dislike something you can't remember. Maybe your knee-jerk reaction to the original video was negative, that I can accept. But you're contradicting yourself by saying you don't like something but you also can't remember what you don't like about the said thing. Pick a lane.

    • @teufela8822
      @teufela8822 Před rokem +3

      @@Hendrik_McSims I know it's impossible to be aware of every single stereotype of all the minorities. But in most cases you can just ask yourself "am I making a minority look bad?" and give whatever you are doing a second thought.
      Nothing exists in a void, context and severity of how harmful the stereotype is, matters.
      This whole video was about cheating and is using a minimal amount of Sims, so it naturally puts the cheater in focus. And as you said, it's inevitable to demonise a certain type of person this way.
      Also this particular stereotype is very harmful. People are refusing to date bisexuals out of fear of being cheated on. Those who already were in a relationship and came out to their partners are often accused of cheating, where there is absolutely no proof for that.
      If we were talking about a soap opera with people cheating left and right for ✨drama✨, and one of these cheaters happened to be bi, nobody would be particularly upset. Why? Because straight characters are shown doing the same exact thing. If anything, people would be happy for bisexual representation!
      Good representation is kinda boring, so it's good to spice things up a little from time to time. But it needs to be done in a way that doesn't demonise minorities.
      TLDR: context matters

      I’m bi and I didn’t even think it was wrong because I had context. I know the video was never meant to be hurtful and that it is just a story in the sims (I know stories can still be hurtful, but the video never meant to be a stereotype which is why I don’t think it’s truly hurtful) I just thought of it as a fun little experiment to see if a feature would work

    Hi! Bisexual/Pansexual here. When I saw the last video, biphobia never even occurred to me even as an inkling of a thought. I honestly just thought you just randomized some sims and made them get in relationships with each-other and/or just felt more normalized and included with my own sexuality from the video as the best case. Being straight is just as normal to me as being non-straight so it just.. literally never occurred to me. Not even for a moment. The point of the video was to test out a game mechanic.
    Sorry but if someone gives you flack over this sort of situation where you dont even speak badly of minority groups, it just sounds like they are projecting and want to fight about something, anything. People like this exist and it is extremely sad. It is really sweet of you to go out of your way to completely remake a video for the best intentions, but I'm just here to say, there wasn't anything wrong with the last video just because a character wasn't straight.

    Now I just wonder if vanilla Sims 2 have that feature (which would explain why some people experienced that). Also, if it really is a patch/expansion pack that broke that feature I'd bet it's Nightlife and some conflict with furious feature (or was too problematic to have with whole go on many dates theme of that EP). Or maybe it was Open for Business and they just didn't want a situation like: "Shopkeep: Hey, you really should buy that item - it would be great for you. Client: Thank you, you're right. Also your spouse cheats on you." After all Open for Business was made to interact with many, many sims, so possibly it was causing the issue of cheating gossip being unstoppable and getting to the spouse in matter of a day or two, maybe even while not playing them.

    I don't know what the problem is, after all, among bisexual people who are in a relationship, cheating is the same as in homosexual or heterosexual couples, so it doesn't really matter what pair Merta would choose to cheat. This is how you create a false image of bisexuals, because they also cheat, orientation has no influence on it. It is good to show such things, because it is not duplicating the stereotype, but showing that orientation has no influence on cheating and that you should treat cheating in hetero and bisexual couples in the same way, and show them in the same way.

    Hey, I know this a completely different topic to the video, but I was thinking about the baby adoption system in the Sims 2. When you adopt a baby in the sims 2 they get their genes from random townies, right? So, would it be possible in an empty world (with no townies or anything) to create 2 alien sims and make them into townies, and then make a family so that they could adopt a baby, would the baby have alien genes? I find these videos you make of the sims 2 very interesting and awesome, because there are so many details in this game that even playing this game my whole life, I still get to learn about.

    • @Marticore
      @Marticore  Před rokem +31

      If you have NoTownieRegen and no starter townies, baby adoption is not possible (with testingcheats on you'll get an error message saying "No townie parents"). But when you create two Sims of opposite gender and turn them into townies, those two Sims will always be chosen as DNA parents, so yes, you could get an alien-looking baby :D But the baby will only have an alien face if you use the alien template that needs to be unlocked with a mod to appear in CAS.

Getting into private school will make the student not come back tense, so they'll have the energy for work and homework, and private school is free. It's super easy!

    replicated this with pretty much the same results, which was kinda disappointing since i really wanted gossip and memories to be more gameplay relevant so bad 😭. like the feature is basically there for no reason and 99% of the gossip wouldn't be relevant even if it was. but i like looking through the memories in simpe sometimes, i found it really funny that someone (probably herself or her wife) told her daughter about that one time when she accidentally electrocuted herself when she was a baby.
    so onto my results. on reddit, someone suggested that marticore could have gotten unlucky, which is an argument that holds up. sims gossip about whatever, so there's a pretty good chance that the sims in this video could have been gossiping about anything other than cheating (my theory was that gossip selects memories pretty randomly, so one affair memory out of a gazillion useless memories/gossip could make it a rare occurrence for sims to discover cheating by gossip). i prevented this using simpe by taking a family fresh out of CAS and wiping out the witness' memories before they witnessed the act. they'd have literally nothing to talk about except cheating!
    and sure enough, daniel pleasant's daughters (this wasn't actually in pleasantview, i used completely different sims in a test neighborhood with the pleasants' names just to dunk on them lol and i changed the maid to a roomie, so i'll be using their names here) witnessed him having an affair. they did the usual "yuck" animation, relationship score falling, etc.
    i had them gossip to mary-sue. the gossip was clearly about the affair, dad and his mistress's faces in chat bubbles, etc., confirming via simpe that this was the only possible gossip. what's interesting is that even though i spammed gossip and even though it clearly was about the affair, the gossip memory didn't appear in mary sue's memories in simpe. copy-pasting her daughter's memories to her in simpe doesn't do anything. i haven't yet tested if the same thing happens if they gossip to anyone else
    also, the first time i did this, i planned on just creating fake memories/gossip in simpe and seeing if that does anything. it didn't, obviously, but similar effects would happen where they'd visibly gossip about the memories but i didn't check if they spread in simpe. also, i made daniel pleasant remember having an affair with a random townie none of the pleasants ever met
    probably messed up that test neighborhood with simpe lol. anyways i believe players may misinterpret falling out of love and general dislike between sims as fallout of affair rumors

    • @pinky_pepper
      @pinky_pepper Před 16 dny

      also to clarify, both the pleasant twins had the "had an affair" and woohoo memories. idk why the sim in this video didn't get the "had an affair", but yeah, that does confirm that witnesses can get a cheating memory. for research purposes, i trapped daniel pleasant and the maid with the twins in a bedroom, forcing the twins to watch the whole time through which was obvs a more different method than in the vid lmao. maybe there's a trigger for "had an affair" that doesn't work consistently?

    How does it work if the date flowers are from the past love interest? Let's say, my sim kept the flowers from his ex-girlfriend and the new girlfriend finds them. There was no cheating. Will the new girlfriend still react as if the boyfriend cheated on her? Anyone tested it?

      Yes. My Don kept his date flowers all over the place to help decorate the house. All was fine for years after he got married until one day wife just came and slapped him. She had finally read the flower notes and acted if he had cheated, although they had married for years and the flowers were old gifts. It took a long time for her to notice, but she minded. Now his stuff goes in a special locked room that she can't access.

    Maybe you won’t care, but I had a third of my neighbourhood involved in the same fight because of a cheater sim who got slapped by most of his wife’s relatives. Here’s a bit of context to let you understand how the game mechanics might work (sorry for the novel) :
    Eugene Fantom repeatedly cheated his wife, Gérômine Ullacre, with 9 other women The guy ended up with 9 illegitimate children. Gérômine only knows about ONE woman (their maid), but their relationship fell down to enemies.
    Sparkle of the chaos : Eugene’s lil’ sister Elsa Fantom held a wedding party where all members of the 10 gentry families were invited.
    You also need to know that :
    - Elsa Fantom is marrying Titus Roduet (Love, 3 chemistry bolts, golden and best friends with their relatives)
    - Titus’ brother Charlefrand Roduet is married to Danielle Barton (Love, 3 chemistry bolts)
    - Titus’ sister Amélia Roduet is married with Antoine Ullacre (Gérômine’s older brother). (Love, 2 chemistry bolts, best friends with relatives)
    - Titus’ brother Anjalbert Roduet is married to Anna GSILAÕ (Love, 2 chemistry bolts)
    - Titus’ sister Blanche Roduet married Raymond Barton (Love, 3 chemistry bolts)
    - Elsa Fantom is best Friend with Ippomène Ullacre (Gérômine little sister) (Golden best friends)
    - Ippomène Ullacre (golden best friend with Gérômine) is married to Albert Plan (Love, 3 chemistry bolts, no direct flag with Eugene)
    - Eugene, Antoine and Georges Mallet are all cheating with Ishtar Kemal (who act as the Beauty goddess in the neighbourhood). Each of them had been in the house when the other woohooed with Ishtar. (Crush, average of 2 chemistry bolts and no enemy flag between any of them)
    - Georges Mallet has neutral relationships with most of the gentry members (+/- 30 SRT and LTR, no flags at all)
    - Anjalbert Roduet and Anna GSILAÕ have very good relationships with everyone in the neighbourhood +/- 50 STR and LTR, (friends or best friends flags)
    - All guests are either platine or golden aspiration
    All of those people and many more were invited by phone at the wedding party and came (except Ishtar who basically snobs everyone). All went well when Ippomène Ullacre AUTONOMOUSLY started to slap Eugene Fantom in his face. Then, Antoine Ullacre came. Then, Danielle Barton. And then Albert Plan who brutally assault Eugene (o.0”).
    By the end of the toast, Eugene had been slapped by most of the ULLACRE, RODUET, BARTON and PLAN families’ members (aged from teen to elder). So I sent Eugene back home to stop the chaos.
    Epic fail. Because in the Sims 2, when sim A slaps, sim B always slaps back. Therefore, because of the friendship and hatred relationships between the remaining guests, they started to slap each other. Endlessly. BUT Anjalbert and NO ONE of the MALLET and GSILAÕ families tried to slap Eugene or any other guests.
    SO definitely something is happening regarding information’s circulation. None of the wedding slappers saw Eugene woohooing (except Gérômine, George and Antoine but none of them started the fight). It really seems like your sims don’t need to witness a cheat to be aware of it. But I think that they need really strong bonds (married, best friends or enemies) to take the cheat into account and react accordingly.
    Happy siming !

    I never like the gender preferences in Sims series but thank God you can at least customize a fixed one at CAS in Sims 4!
    I kinda see the gameplay design at the time that they don't wanna force preferences at the player and implemented a hidden system making everyone bi by default but leans towards only one or another by the player's actions. They thought they were clever to be stealthy and avoid some obvious options at the CAS that can make many people turned off or annoyed during that era. The LGBT customization in Sims 4 aren't that in your face but still available if you want.

    I will say, I’m not Bi, I’m Gay, but I definitely could connect the way bisexuality was portrayed in the previous video to biphobia. It was unintentional, but I don’t quite understand how one can say there was no link whatsoever. Again, it was unintentional, but I myself when watching the video initially thought the same thing, I shrugged it off, and ended up not watching it (I don’t remember finishing it).
    The character was bicurious, while in a relationship and chose to seek out a gender other than their partner without the consent of their partner (cheating) due to their curiosity of their possible bisexuality. It was at the forefront of my mind when I turned on that video. There was an extremely clear case of biphobia there. A bisexual cheating with another gender, not of their partner can and does happen irl, and it can happen in media too, without being biphobic.
    In that case, the cheating depended on bisexuality. If the character was not bisexual, that specific incident of cheating would not have happened.
    It was not a bisexual character that happened to cheat, it was a character that cheated because they were bisexual.
    This section is added on, after posting: What is nice to see, is a youtuber seeking a wrong they’ve possibly made, reviewing it and actively choosing to remove it, and continuing to address it after the removal. That’s top tier! I’ve seen a much worse incident of a company misgendering real life people, of which were trans in a video, about their experience as trans people, and the best they could do was pin a comment in the comment section about their mistake. I checked while writing this portion, it’s still the case.
