- Hi! I'm Tanic Sims 2 but you can call me Tanny and welcome to the first instalment of the Sims 2 Corruption Chronicles. Join me as we seek the answer to a question as old as time: just how corrupt are the Sims 2 premade neighbourhoods anyway?
Pleasantview has a reputation of being the least corrupted out of the three base game neighbourhoods, but does that matter when all hood corruption ends in the same catastrophic event? What are the specific problems with Pleasantview? And how can you prolong the inevitable?

i know!! back when i got into corruption, it was a niche sub-interest of ts2 with very little documentation (especially youtube videos) and information out there. i never thought it would become so popular 😭

i don’t know how 6 year old me got away with adding the grim reaper to my families all the time and avoiding corruption
in my experience i just never played any hood or sims long enough to see the results of tombstone of l&d misusage when i was a kid 🤣 undoubtedly messed the game up beyond repair, just never noticed lol
I added those object NPCs too back in the day.
The only thing that I remember happened a lot was the game crashing. But that even happened with my newly installed, probably very clean Sims 2 now, until I did that fix that I found online where you tick "machine can handle over 2 gb" or something. So I don't even know if the crashing was due to corruption.
Same but I always insisted on making my own towns from scratch instead of using the pre made ones.
That was probably what saved me though I could have also been incredibly lucky.
You absolutely corrupted your game, but it often takes a while to show up outright.

Honestly, I am such a sucker for glitches and corruptions in games. I guess that's how I turned out to be a Sonic fan!
I'm so glad Sims 2 has been having a huge resurgence in popularity recently, it's always been my favourite Sims game since I played it back in the day lol. When I was younger I messed around so much with cheats, but I didn't understand corruption 😂. I can't believe I've been playing Sims 2 for like 15 years 😱.
same here!! ts2 has been my number one special interest since the day i first played it around 15 or 16 years ago so i am both over the moon and baffled about the fact so many people are rekindling their love for this game, or even discovering it for the first time!! 🤗
ah... we’ve all been there! especially when the game was still new and shiny so we just... had no idea we were all breaking our games lol. remember how the official game guides that came with the discs would give guidance on how to move sims to other neighbourhoods because no one realised that was a surefire way to bork not just one but two hoods? and remember when using the ‘deleteallcharacters’ cheat was the first thing you did in your freshly made custom hood? simpler times 🤣 it’s so funny. it’s like we’ve come totally full circle - we started by unknowingly and unintentionally corrupting our hoods and whole games, then to being super cautious about all forms of corruption, and now back to corrupting our games, except it’s on purpose this time! 🤣
@@tanicsims2 It's so nostalgic, and I still play it frequently to this day. It is like a comfort game. I wish I could see my old neighbourhoods, what kind of weird stuff I did. When I figured out boolprop for the first time that was a game changer 😂. I remember I always deleted all the bin families and I wasn't as careful with gravestones, nowadays I usually build a graveyard 😂
Same! I randomly found a CD where I backed up my sims 2 games, and it was from 2007! I'm STILL playing this game. And blessedly, there are wonderful modders out there making the game even better. My computer can't really handle sims 3, plus I never liked that my sims couldn't "escape" their busy households to go to a community lot. In Sims 3, your sims could walk about town but you still needed to manage the household. I found that a bit stressful, although I did enjoy the freedom of just walking to your neighbour and saying g'day. In the sims 2, when my sim goes to a community lot, it _felt_ like they were out.
i came back to sims 2 because im beyond bored by sims 4, I built everything I wanted, bulldozed it and rebuild it again, the sims 3 is unfortunately unplayable in my pc and it was never my cup of tea either, so after coming back to sims 2 and remembering what is like to have FUN while playing a sims game Im never leaving
I'm rather pessimist about sims 5, i doubt that after many years of making consistently bad decisions with sims 4 will translate into sims 5 being another building simulator

who knew 8 year old me accidently destroying my sims 2 game by smashing urns constantly would lead to my weird new obsession with corruption. Kinda makes me wanna go back and see just how badly I can mess up the game before it just quits on me completely. (also watching Don get hit by a satellite made my day lmao)
isn’t it funny how we’ve all collectively gone from accidentally corrupting our games as kids/new players to doing all we can to prevent corruption and now back to corrupting our games, except it’s on purpose this time 🤣 (it had to be done)
This is such a commonality in art, and especially video games: The most ambitious projects, the ones with an extreme level of passion and soul, (and in many cases, the most popularity with the fans) are also the most buggy, broken messes imaginable. It's the difference between the sims 2, where the devs try to give the player more freedom, only to be hampered by EA's design decisions, and the Sims 4, in which the game is forced to constrict you by design. In the former, at least they tried.
Would love to see The Sims 2 remastered with all corruption, bugs fixed, and sims bios and memories fixed.

EDIT: Since a few people have pointed this out to me now, I just wanted to say I am aware of the issue of the music being too loud at some points, particularly nearer to the start. I have conductive hearing loss, and at the time of making this video I could barely hear. Since I thought my voice was too loud and the music was too quiet, I kept turning it up because I figured that, if even I thought my voice was too loud, then surely people who could hear normally would agree. It’s also possible that some tracks reset or went higher without me realising/hearing when I was trying to figure the editing software out. I truly believed the only problem with the audio was inconsistency until kind people began pointing it out to me. Unfortunately, even though my hearing has since returned in my left ear, it would be difficult to edit this video and fix the music levels, so all I can do is sincerely apologise and assure you that my more recent videos have (almost!) sorted all the problems out. If you’d like, you can also turn on subtitles; at the moment, they are auto-generated, but I have been considering adding accurate ones manually once I am in a position to do so. Although I hadn’t expected so many people to watch this video, it’s still important to me that I make content people can enjoy (and hear... 😓) so it is a massive shame that this happened. Again, I am really sorry.
Just wanted to pop in and say I am so, so, SO sorry about the inconsistent audio quality! I live in a busy and noisy household so I had to steal any chance to record wherever and whenever I could, hence how some recordings sound a lot clearer. Next time I promise I'll make sure it all sounds okay💕
my only complaint is it sounds like the narration is a little too quiet in places and potentially gets drowned out by the music, especially at the beginning
William i’m so sorry ㅜㅜ i cannot hear very well so i didn’t realise! most likely i turned the music up at times when i thought it was barely audible. thank you for telling me! i think i have made the music a bit quieter and of a more consistent volume in the video i am currently working on but i will check later and verify this
Perhaps it'll be worth having a friend/editor to check over audio mixing before releases?
It’s not your fault! Don’t worry about it. The comment above mine has a pretty good suggestion if you’re still having trouble making the audio tracks balanced. I’d recommend making your voice track as high as you want then adjusting the music to be pretty quiet. Listening to someone’s loud voice recording can be easily fixed by turning down our headphone volume but loud music in the background isn’t so simple, but no matter, interesting video! I have a lot of experience editing so if you need help I can answer here or in an email
i'm so sorry that the hearing loss caused this problem, that is absolutely not your fault! but also, i think accurate subtitles would be greatly welcomed! i struggle with audio processing sometimes, so i unfortunately can't make out what you're saying, which is ashame because i LOVE videos about game glitches! so writing manual subtitles would be greatly appreciated for accessibility, but only when you're able to, of course, please don't feel rushed!

You know, growing up it felt like TS2 was obviously the superior game to what came later, but seeing how it's basically been held together by rubber bands and hot glue makes me realize the EA time/money crunch was always a thing. You know how so many outlets heaped praise on Maxis for delaying the game only a few months after that legendary server fire that essentially reset progress on development? I'm beginning to wonder if they had much of a choice or if a few months was all EA was willing to give them.
The server fire was a myth, so were most of the misconceptions about corruption
I remember looking over my mom's shoulder when she played the sims 2. I don't have as many memories as I do with sims 3 (I have over 1k hours on it 😳) but I still remember her making Inuyasha sims.

This corruption series is fantastic. Could you make a video on how to set up a neighbourhood from scratch? Like if you've just installed the game and want to avoid corruption but don't know where to start. I would love to hear you talk about how to install clean templates, what your must-have mods are to avoid corruption, etc. I first started playing the sims 2 over 10 years ago when I was a kid, but I never knew anything about corruption, so this is a whole new ball-park for me!

corruption is a very daunting and broad subject, so i would like to work my way through absolutely every aspect of it, especially if they haven’t really been covered much on youtube (your first idea is particularly calling me!!). thank you so much for your kind words and suggestions - i’ll be sure to get on them asap ❤️
I honestly just thought that the Pollination Techs were just kidnapping sims around the world and replacing them with clones of themselves all over the place (explaining Bella death and clone) and they were using their half alien cousins (Calientes) to get close enough to their victims to study

It has been so discouraging creating a sims 2 hood from scratch, not doing any of the very bad things, and still getting bad corruption like lots disappearing. I just started playing sims 4, and while it’s gameplay pales in comparison, it has been refreshing to not worry about corruption, or about rng also.
I didn't even know the Sims 2 even got corrupted, I've somehow avoided it constantly.

thank you so much! glad you’re enjoying it ❤️ i’m the same way - been interested in corruption for years, but there was never a lot of documentation (especially when it came to youtube videos) until recently. it feels like there’s this huge corruption renaissance at the moment. even then, i wasn’t sure anyone else would really be interested, but for me personally i’ve never truly found a cohesive list of every single thing wrong about the premade hoods... so i wanted to change that! it’s so cool meeting other people who are as invested in this game and its glitches as i am hahaha
Yesterday I brought back Pleasentview Bella on the Maxis template, and she and Mortimer had a daughter and she had brown hair, brown eyes, and Bella’s skin tone
oh that’s interesting! i haven’t tried experimenting with bella yet but i did experiment with michael and darleen whose dna also won’t happen in simpe. found out that, once resurrected, their dna _will_ open in simpe (go figure...) and it’s relatively okay (except michael has random genetics for red hair as well as grey hair, which just... isn’t possible. one of his kids inherited it and it shows in their dna, but it doesn’t show in-game) so my theory is that once these problem sims are resurrected/brought back in bella’s case then the dna problem is fixed somehow. seems more like a case of dna being inaccessible rather than being non-existent.
the part about brown hair did catch my attention though, since both bella and mortimer have black hair. could just be recessive/heterozygous genes at play though! i’ll have to look into their ancestors and see where the brown hair might come from!
@@tanicsims2 I did some digging, the girl I had is a clone of Mortimer as Bella has no genetics, so this is like Brandi’s pregnancy where the child will always be an opposite sex clone of Mortimer, and in the game files Mortimer has the gene for brown hair

One caveat to using hoodchecker on the premade neighborhoods is it gets rid of all the scripted events that come with them. Yet another reason to play the clean templates instead.
good point! though i _think_ this is also the case for the clean templates. so it’s always best to play through the scripted events first, and then use hoodchecker! 🤗
@@tanicsims2 Oh yes hoodchecker gets rid of the scripted events for both the official and clean versions of the neighborhoods, but with the clean versions there’s no need to use hoodchecker when you first play them so you can still enjoy the scripted events without having to deal with the already existing corruption in the EAxis hoods.
ohhh you’re right! lol been a while since i started a new hood clean template or otherwise so i forgot you wouldn’t need to use hoodchecker on a fresh hood 😣
I always thought Bella was meant to be found, although I never tried bringing dead sims back to life. Crazy to find out the game lore didn't actually relate to gameplay, but instead just outdated programming that kept her from actually appearing or being found.
It's amazing how the best sims game also has such a "dark secret" within itself, older players already know their way around the issue but new players would have no way of knowing without prior research.

calipers is a huge inspiration for me! i don’t think i would have started this channel if it weren’t for them.
somebody else actually told me the same thing earlier - i cannot hear very well, so i did not realise this was a problem and i’m very sorry about that! i thought the music was barely audible since i couldnt hear it at all so i must’ve turned it up without realising how loud it actually was. looks like it was the opposite and the music was too loud all along (i thought the voiceover was too loud at times...) 😓
again i am really sorry. i will try to check later to see if the current video i’m working on has this problem but i think i have made the music a little bit quieter/a more consistent volume. again though, i guess i won’t really find out until people tell me ㅜㅜ

Jess G hahaha yes! thankfully the auto-generated subtitles, from what i’ve seen, are pretty accurate and only really struggle with names of sims. i’ve been considering adding manual subtitles to all my vids as well. even though only a small percentage of my viewers watch with cc accurate subtitles are super important to me and i know how important they are to others too!!
I love to learn about corruption in the sims! I don't know why, I just feel that I can help my corrupted sims to have a repaired life again!
i genuinely get so emotional when recording the footage for these videos because i feel so sorry for the really messed up sims 🤣 i just want to fix them and make them all better. that’s probably what’s so great about the clean templates; people took the time to repair all the sims and that just makes me really happy
@@tanicsims2 same here! These days I'm getting one of each pair of cloned sims back with their families using simpe! I feel very happy to see Dareen, Bella and Skip Broke with their families again, and to give them a second chance to live their lives! 😄
ProDark DrakeCruz YES! i love that! you’re giving them the life they deserve!! while some sims who are already dead before the game starts make for interesting mysteries and storylines, it would be so cool to actually play some of them, especially the ones you mentioned! i love coming up with theories and personalities and backstories for all of them so they never get forgotten 🥺
I am very sad to know that Ms. Crumplebottom is not a Sim I can play as safely because she is my favorite pre-made Sim! I suppose I could just copy her appearance and google her traits to remake her. No purse attacking, though!

Damn, i have played sims 2 in it's prime for like 3-4 years and i remember only once heard of 'corruption', kind of - when the testingcheats was on when you exit the game. Now we know it's bullshit well 😆

thank you for letting me know. a few people have brought this to my attention and i believe i have fixed this in all my other videos. i have conductive hearing loss and while making this video (and some of my other early ones) it was especially bad, meaning i could barely hear at all. i won’t bore you with my life story but basically because i couldn’t hear very well i did not realise this was an issue until kind people like you pointed it out. while editing i truly could barely hear the music and my voice was too loud to me, so i kept turning the music up not knowing people who can actually hear well would have the opposite problems i had with the volume. all i can do is apologise (and recommend subtitles) and i promise i have been trying my best to balance the audio better despite my difficulties ㅠㅠ

I have actually never heard about this before I saw your videos, and I have this game sense I was a teenager around 2004. And it still works. But I mostly use to play with my own costume hood anyway . But it is still interesting to listen to this. I love the sims 2. 🙂I have never experience any corruption by the way.

silamimusimes i was going to start my channel with a psp playthrough but i was really awkward since it was my first time recording and i struggled a lot without a script to follow. i kept messing up on really simple things too because i was so nervous 😭 i edited some of it but in the end i decided to scrap it because i wasn’t happy with the quality at all. turned out to be a good decision though because i then began this series instead! maybe once i become less awkward on mic and more confident without a script i could try playing it again 👀

I don't understand how Frida and Prudence crumplebottom have their character files intact when they have no gravestone. They must've died in a really funky way. In a vanilla game deleting a tombstone removes a sims data down to the bare minimum. Also, i think it's been removed off the sims wiki but Michaels portrait will not cause problems upon ressurecting, if you change it however you can't get it back. If you're running the uc it would change anyways if you were to give him all his data and then spawn him in game. I used to run only a few packs where the portraits wouldn't change and none of the sims in the goth Graveyard caused problems because their portraits were unused.
The only thing that i did in my game was removing the death token of bella goth with simPE and brought her back. And that will be the ONLY thing i will bring back xDDD i wont try and mess with my save files too much🤣🥲

I'm really wondering how the producers of the game didn't recognized the corruption and the unfinished data things, i know there has been a pressure by EA to finish this on time, but i feel like it's still more messed up than other sims games haha, so wondering what was going on behind the scenes
(purely conjecture/my theory) it’s entirely possible that they never had the opportunity to playtest long enough to see symptoms of corruption manifest. we know that corruption is unpredictable and can take months or even years to show symptoms - and even then, they could be small hiccups that may just be chalked up to regular game glitches. players didn’t really realise what was happening until a few months down the line. maxoidtom, who i believe was an engineer at maxis (and i _think_ he worked on patches) admitted in an old mts thread about dna that the premade sims were ‘probably pretty old’ but he didn’t think they ‘needed updating’ so purely based on that it does seem that maxis just... weren’t aware of the repercussions of leaving outdated data; not to mention the ramifications of what we now know as very bad things/vbts. pretty sure in that same thread maxoidtom also said he had not banked on players being able to access parts of the code like dna thus didn’t believe it was necessary to add dna to sims who were missing a string.
i have some other thoughts, but yeah - tl;dr: it’s very likely that they never had enough time to not only catch signs of corruption but also diagnose it/track down the problems and fix them

hi there - a few people have pointed this out and i have since fixed it for my other videos. i was not aware because i have conductive hearing loss, and at the time of making this video i had very limited hearing in both ears (hearing has since returned in left ear). for me, i could not hear the music over my voice at all so i kept turning it up, believing that if i thought my voice was too loud then it would definitely be too loud for people who could hear normally lol. also i am not 100% sure but i have a feeling some of the earlier tracks reset/went louder without me knowing (and hearing it...) when trying to work my way round the editing software since i was still figuring it all out. i truly thought the only problem was inconsistency until kind people like you let me know weeks later!
unfortunately it would be really difficult to edit the video now some of my hearing has come back so all i can do is apologise ㅜㅜ

While I absolutely adore the Sims 2, I do also think it was probably still unfinished in some regards even with all the expansion and stuff packs that came out for it after the initial release. I'm not entirely versed in the development history of the game, but I have noticed parts of the pre-installed houses and community lots where some spots of paint were missing, which makes it fairly clear that the game was at least semi-rushed, and if Maxis was struggling to make the outsides of the game look presentable, then I'm almost afraid to find out what problems occur because of the inside code and whatnot.
agree completely! i have loved this game for the majority of my life and i will always encourage new players to try it, plus i always say as much as i love and care about ts2 i believe the developers loved it even more than i could. but... it’s pretty ridiculous how this game requires mods, precautions, and third party tools to fix it. iirc the game was actually delayed from january to september 2004, though i also know there was a lot of pressure on maxis from ea to meet deadlines. what i believe happened in terms of the corruption and oversights in some of the coding is that hoods were simply not playtested long enough for corruption to manifest, thus it’s entirely possible maxis never noticed any symptoms. we know that hood corruption is unpredictable and can take up to years to start showing, so it makes sense that maxis might not have known about the problems until players started reporting issues after months/years of playing a hood. not to mention all the problems players would only have discovered by the time university dropped and they began testing the new resurrection feature in premade hoods. it’s difficult to say for sure though, but from the evidence we have it does seem like there was a lot of pressure to get the game out on shelves. it’s a real shame ㅜㅜ

thank you! i can’t apologise enough for the audio quality, i’m really sorry about itㅜㅜ basically i had to keep recording the voiceovers in different rooms so some recordings are more... echoey? (dining room) and others are a bit clearer (bedroom). then for the hoodchecker section i must have had my mic all the way up to 100 and didn’t realise if it was too loud (?) because i can’t hear very well. i’ll stop boring you with my life story now hahaha anyway i just wanted to say i hear (haha) you and agree with you 100%! i’ve been recording the strangetown voiceover all in the same room this time so it should at least sound more consistent and the volume should be better now. i can’t afford a new mic at the moment so i hope these changes will help even a teeny tiny bit 🥺

I have never taken the time to play the premades. Even when I was 8 playing this game I never did so so luckily I don't beleive I've ever corrupted my game. I have killed sim kids tho and possibly toddlers. I shall see if my neighborhood will be okay
(ignore this if you’re aware of this already!) doing that doesn’t lead to corruption per se however make sure you move their graves to a cemetery! child ghosts are incredibly buggy and lead to dangerous npcs spawning on your home lot and being unable to leave. when a child ghost is out at night the game registers them as staying out past their curfew, thus sending an adult from their household - in their case, the default household, since they’re dead - to come and collect them. again you probably know this already but just in case! ❤️
Have you experienced that Goth ghosts never seem to enter the house? Or am I the only one where this happens? (This is kind of off-topic since I'm playing on the clean template, so it's not about corruption, sorry)
I literally spent Sim weeks in that house in order to check. They only attacked whenever someone went outside, even guests, and even child Alexander. But never in the house.
Olive Specter's house doesn't seem to have that "protection" though. In the first night of ghosts appearing they started floating inside and haunting the chairs, checking the fridge, etc.
I also remember from my childhood that ghosts usually pestered my Sims regardless of where my Sims hid from their wrath.
Are the ghosts in the Goth backyard coded to not enter the house or something? What do you think is going on with those garden loving spirits?
hmm... that’s interesting... i don’t play with goth manor so my memory may be fuzzy but the last time i saw those ghosts (early last year, probably) i vaguely remember noticing that they stayed outside in the garden too. i may be completely wrong here since i always move graves to a cemetery lot so i am not well-versed in ts2 ghosts’ behaviours, but ghosts can’t travel up the stairs, right? might also be mixing games here too (maybe ts3 they can’t? or vice versa). so i figured the goth ghosts wouldn’t come inside, because the house is on a foundation and they can’t go up the stairs. again, probably totally wrong about this, but it would be funny if ghosts could haunt objects and walk straight through walls only for stairs to be too difficult lol. but then i remembered the specter -mausoleum- house is also built on a foundation, and i’ve definitely had ghosts roaming the house before. you’re right about the ghosts in olive’s garden; in the vanilla hood they don’t have ghost flags ticked. i am not sure if meetmetotheriver fixes this in her clean template - it’s pretty minor and not too worrying tbh so not fixing the flags won’t break the game - but dorsal-axe fixes it in theirs. so... if i’m right about sims 2 ghosts being unable to go up stairs, including foundations, then it would make sense that the goth ghosts, who do have the correct flags and behave properly as ghosts, would not be able to come into the house whereas the -broken- specter... spectres are missing these flags and thus might not be affected by things like stairs when they normally should. this is purely speculation though so i’ll have to search around and look for more definitive answers; you’ve definitely gotten me curious now hahaha
@@tanicsims2 Oooh that's intriguing! I think the no-stairs rule is a thing for ghosts in TS2, but that's just coming from my observation. Like Michael Bachelor seemed to only be on the ground level of the Caliente house.
So you're suggesting the fact that Olive's ghosts are entering the house is out of the ordinary, and the Goth ghosts being outside ghosts are normal. That's turning my worldview upside down. But it makes so much sense.
I'm playing meetmetotheriver's fixed hoods, so the possibility that Olive's playground ghosts didn't have their flags fixed isn't out of the question.
Hmm.. what if the devs did that on purpose so that the party can continue inside? Just a tinfoil theory, but it would be smart because they probably wouldn't want to build a house like that and miss out on the indoor haunting.
Ok, so I watched CallMeKevin's Sims 2 series, and in that the ghosts on his lot can enter the house even though it's on a foundation, so I don't believe anymore that Olive's ghosts entering the house are abnormal. I think it's the Goth ghosts that are weird for not going up the foundation 🤔

@@glanni for some reason i feel that its caused by ghosts not being angry, because i remember placing michael's grave in dina's inventory to place it in the goth family cemetery, and since she married mortimer his ghost was angry and could get in the house also, which the other ancestors couldn't? this is nothing but a guess though

I personally started to think these specific ghosts are somehow coded to not enter the Goth house because the devs wanted the house to be easily playable, and only low-key dangerous.
Idk if that's possible though. It's still weird because I've never seen another ghost that couldn't enter a house.

One questions: If i olay pleasantview without messing with anything that might corrupt my game, you know, just play nornally, will I get any corruptions?
unfortunately the tricky thing about corruption is that it’s highly unpredictable, so no one can guarantee when or if a hood will blow up. thing is though, the premade hoods (especially the base game ones) already come pre-corrupted, so it’d be a matter of seeing any signs and not whether there’ll _potentially_ be corruption or not. you might get lucky and not see any corruption-like symptoms and play the hood normally without issues for months, maybe even years, or the hood may be unplayable within weeks. best case scenario is you get bored of the hood and stop playing before it reaches that point, but again it’s impossible to predict. you could be the most cautious player and still see the results of corruption from very bad things/vbts done in development (so things that weren’t your fault and were totally out of your control, which can be super frustrating!). even mootilda, who created the hoodchecker tool, recommends using the clean templates. in her own words: ‘[...] the shipped neighborhoods come pre-corrupted and it makes a lot of sense to start with versions of the hoods which have had known problems fixed.’
but, if you have already started playing with the maxis pleasantview and you’re unwilling to restart with a clean template, there are things you can do to mitigate symptoms and prolong the inevitable, though again this can’t be guaranteed. like you say, if you play ‘normally’ - as in, you don’t do vbts such as resurrecting the dead sims that come with the hood, try to reunite bella, and all the general Bad Things™️ like deleting sims/graves or moving occupied lots to the lots and houses bin - you _might_ be okay. super hard to say for sure. make sure you have all the necessary anti-corruption mods as well, make regular backups, and use hoodchecker on top of playing normally/cautiously. though you can’t reverse all the corruption that already exists in the neighbourhood, you can prevent future corruption and mop up a few broken things with the steps i outlined above.
i hope this made sense, though i’m really sorry i can’t be more help or completely reassure you! let me know if you have any more questions and i’ll try my best to answer them! 🤗

Abby Sincere they had three bolts and fell in love almost instantly so really brandi and darren chose each other in my game! it was super cute. as for cassandra... well, don didnt bolt at the altar. i know, i know - she deserves way better 😞 but they had four kids together and lived a pretty good life. if i ever decide to play pv again from scratch i’d love to see cassandra and darren together!!
ah... i miss these sims so much ;^; all the original elders and adults have since passed, and the original teens and children are elders now!

I recently started using the I am Dead Token in a custom hood to keep sims marriages together in the family tree, since I’m not a fan of them getting split up, is this really going to corrupt my Neighbourbood, and if so, to what extent, cos I tried doing research and I can’t find anything about I Am Dead Tokens causing corruption, and if I should stop using them then I will gladly do so, I am getting worried

hi - first of all, so sorry for worrying you! it’s difficult to say for certain since i have not found a detailed breakdown of why giving death tokens isn’t a good idea, however it is most likely because in doing so the sim won’t get a grave, thus they become unaccounted for. i cannot say for certain however if this would be similar to deleting graves. still, it’s advised that you are careful, even if it’s a ‘just in case’ scenario.
i do believe there is a mod that retains marriage even after sims have passed on. i am doing my best to find it at the moment but of course it wants to vanish -go figure- . it is by pescado. once i find it for you i will link it here. from now on i would recommend using that mod instead, just to be on the safe side :)

look for your latest ep (apartment life if you have the ultimate collection) and download the zip file. you don’t need to put all the mods contained in there in your game - just the one called marriage-postpartum.
as for your concern about your hood (which i totally understand!): unfortunately it’s difficult for anyone to predict. you may be okay. i really wish i could be more help and give you a more definite answer ;^;
EDIT: do you have simpe? i am not 100% sure about this so do err on the side of caution but you may be able to remove the dead token from those sims. i’m only guessing it’s safe to do so because it’s what you have to do in cases like bringing bella back, and because i _think_ it is a safe memory to remove. so, it is possible that this could actually be reversible and may not blow up your hood. i’ll keep researching and investigating because i’d really like to reassure you!
oh and of course, please make a backup of your hood before you fiddle around in simpe, just in case!

How does “data that floats around that can attach to sims” how does it actually attach to sims? I am so curious!!!
okay, i explain it a lot -better- more thoroughly in the veronaville video, but it typically happens when sims are deleted. each sim has their own number identifying them - their nid. all their data like sim description, sim wants and fears, relationships, memories, etc. are tied to this number. the problem is, there are multiple places where this information is stored (hoodchecker creator mootilda believed some data were located in parts of the source code that not even talented programmers such as herself or simpe could touch), and when a sim is deleted, not all the references are purged.
though they were deleted, most of their data are still attached to their nid - namely wants and fears, dna, relationships, etc. they weren’t removed. because the game doesn’t check if an nid has been used before, it becomes free real estate; any newly created, born in-game, or spawned sims may snatch the deleted sim’s nid and, in turn, steal all their data. think of nids as houses; if they are unoccupied, a new person can move in, and (in this case) the previous owner’s left some of their stuff behind. alternatively, you could see the data still clinging to their old nid as now being homeless - hence the expressions ‘floating around’ or ‘dangling’. those data then attach themselves to new sims if they take the nid of a deleted sim.
adding to that, it can also refer to, say, living sims who have corrupted memories pointing to buggy dead or deleted sims. another problem with sim deletion in particular is that their data get so intertwined with other sims through memories, relationships, family ties, etc. all those data will become corrupted because they’re linked to a deleted sim. the problem then spreads across the hood through gossip. gossip isn’t inherently corrupt per se, but it makes for a pretty good vehicle for spreading corrupted data like memories.
mootilda summarises it a lot better than i could: ‘corruption spreads because wrong data is used to make decisions, leading to more and more bad data and more and more bad decisions.’

pollination technician #9 you’re so kind, thank you so much! ❤️ i knew the audio quality was inconsistent because i had recorded in several places (and was unfamiliar with audacity at the time) but i genuinely thought that was the only problem. it wasn’t until people began pointing this particular issue out to me when i discovered the music is louder than my voice at some parts, because for me i couldn’t hear anything wrong ㅠㅠ i was kind of like, ‘well... if i can hear my voice just fine, and the music is very quiet for me... then surely people who actually can hear properly will be the same?’ hahaha. totally my bad. so i really rely on viewers reporting audio problems to me. even though i wasn’t expecting my vids to get as much attention as they have it’s still important to me that i try my absolute best to make entertaining and informative videos that people can enjoy (and hear properly!). luckily though, right now i can hear in my left ear again - not sure how long this will last, however - so while my right ear’s still out of order i can hear a lot better at the moment, which should hopefully prevent any problems in the future 🤗

Dude I’m not even joking, the moment I found out that deleting sims and families could break your game, 10 year old me was like a replica of the Homer Simpson hedge GIF for the longest time because I used to CONSTANTLY get bored of families and delete them 😂
"New" findings show that deleting sims via the bin does not, _in fact_ cause corruption.
It just soft deletes them and brings them down to the bare minimum. A video by April Black demonstrates this.

The audio mixing is not very good
The "corruption" is caused by your fixation on dead characters that are supposed to be out of play, using external tools. If you really wanted to bring one character back with a good reason, it's simpler to make a new one, give him reasonable properties, copy any facial structure if available. I've played this neighborhood for a really long time, grew enormous database of memories and wants, and nothing bad happened. The worst thing that may cause real loss of data is if the game runs out disk space in My Documents and can't update its files.
I've driven drunk for a really long time, done daredevil stunts without planning ahead, and nothing bad happened. Clearly that means drunk driving isn't a problem right? Just because your game didn't corrupt doesn't mean someone else's won't mate. Also you don't need to use external tools to bring "out of play" characters back considering it's a literal game feature to resurrect the dead, and the in-game deletion tool corrupts your game if you use it. Hell letting a premade sim give birth to the babies she was already pregnant with used to corrupt the game, so no, it's not all caused by a so called fixation on dead characters.
