      Rest assured. These things can happen to anyone. Now you have a moral obligation to listen to Here's One that Got Away (a great track in its own right), reading the lyrics to You're the Best Thing.😂

    Glad you listened to mine, I think you mixed You’re The Best Thing with Here’s One That Got Away, both from Cafe Bleu. You listened to the former but you read the latter’s text. Anyway, if you liked this one you’re gonna love Long Hot Summer (i reccommen Extendend mix, but the single mix is good too), which also has a great sounding bass line and has a less mainstream sound to it. My name is Luca btw, I’m from Italy ;)

    Glad you brought up the sax solo Justin. That's the version that I've always heard. So I'm listening to this version, waiting for the sax and - where's the sax? Interesting that that element is only in the single version. Anyway - its a great song. No, not a deep song to be sure, but it's a lovely track. In fact I suggested this track to a couple of friends many years ago as their wedding song, and they went with it! It's that kind of song. Can't wait for more Style Council reactions from you Justin!

    You have to remember that many British bands in the Eighties were wise to the public just buying the single versions, which was why they often produced a different album version and also released various 12" remixes of the same track. Being a late millennial, you're just not going to be familiar with that commercial concept.

  • @mikeotis-dw8gu

    I'm not sure if you covered their best work yet IMO. The most beautiful protest song ever "All Gone Away" their best all around song "Ever Had It Blue" extended version from "Singular Adventures" the most inspirational song "Headstart For Happiness" I hope you will consider doing these songs. The Style Council is one of the most underrated bands ever in my opinion. Thanks

    Good to see the Style Council back on the channel. A much loved, classic ballad that's become a standard. Soulful with jazzy overtones. From a time when Weller started to allow himself to write tender love songs, something he'd largely resisted with The Jam. There are still plenty of up-tempo songs from this era too though - try Walls Come Tumbling Down, for example - that's a great track. I expect others have pointed this out, but you read the lyrics from a completely different song on the same album! 🤣😉The lyrics to this song are far more tender!

    Style Council can be something of a conundrum - they were a superb singles band but Weller's keenness to experiment with different styles and genres (laudable as that was) meant their LPs could be rather hit-or-miss (Our Favourite Shop is the best, certainly the most consistent). In many ways, they were the butter in the sandwich of Paul's career with The Jam and his solo career. But their singles, are noted, as effortlessly brilliant - check out My Ever Changing Moods, Shout To The Top, Long Hot Summer and Walls Come Tumbling Down just for a kick-off.

    • @jeremyb5640
      @jeremyb5640 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Plenty of social commentary among the Style Council's work, but often buried in plain sight - whereas the polemic in The Jam's material was often more obvious because of the new wave / post punk attack in the music. Songs like Walls Come Tumbling Down, Money Go Round, The Lodgers, Homebreakers, Come to Milton Keynes, etc, etc talk rail against Thatcherism and consumerism - not to mention paintings of the striking miners in the video for Shout To The Top!
