A wonderful classic. The sweetness of his voice is also shown in his big hit "Cruisin' ". Also watch the live, black and white video of Smokey and The Miracles doing "Ooh Baby Baby" from around 1966. There you'll really see the stage presence and appeal he had while singing that classic song.

This masterful album briefly catapulted them to the big time, before they sorta self imploded. I recommend listening to the entire album when you can. In my opinion, it actually takes off after Blood Money into Lost and the remaining tracks. Also check out Aura and Kings from Priest = Aura. Sublime music!

I'd heard "Killer Queen" on the radio a lot in the previous year, but I didn't get into Queen until the first time I heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the radio in November 1975. I went out and bought "A Night at The Opera' the next day! Imagine a 12-yr old 8th-Grade honor student dropping the needle on this album for the first time, and hearing this track! It was the most EVIL thing I'd ever heard! I was glad my Mom wasn't home at the time. My 16-yr-0ld Sister came in just in time to hear the second half, and I had to go back and start the album over again. We both agreed we couldn't play it too loud when Mom or Dad were home, but we couldn't stop talking about the whole album. In the next couple months I bought the other three Queen albums, and they went into heavy rotation on the living room stereo.

You have to react to In Memory To Elizabeth Reed from the same album. It may be the finest live performance ever.

Another guitar inspiration song. Later on in bands when someone would say “ this song needs a cello, or a flute, a moog synth solo, birds,” whatever. I could say I can do that. Thanks to Brian and later Belew.

The Brits can't help themselves. Cream did it. ELP did it. Then Queen did it. All I can figure is that it is a kind of Brechtian alienation technique, whereby they are saying: Don't worship here! We're just as knucklehead and freakazoid as y'all are.

I’ve seen the mission olive, one of my all time favourite bands. Up there with the Fields of the Nephilim, The sisters of mercy and the Cult. They defined an era that no one was aware of unless you were there.

Hi JP. I was wondering if you could react to something from Frank Quintero's 1981 album "Pajaros y Estrellas," or "Hechizo". The earlier work in "Despues de la Tormenta" and "Travesia" also offers some superb fusion stuff comparable to Weather Report or RTF, but those I mentioned off the top of my head have some of his best drumming (and Hechizo features the amazing Brecker Brothers... and Dave Sanborn to boot!). I'm sure you'll love his approach to rhythm and composition. Edit to add: "De Noche y Con Poca Luz" from 1980 is IMO one of his best albums but it's one which ought to be heard in its entirety to fully appreciate all the styles he tackles, from hardcore Jazz Fusion to Pop Rock to Ballad to Symphonic, etc

When the dust settles, the tales have been told, the ships have docked and the fires are just embers, PM will be considered one of the finest musicians across any genre. Nobody gets that guitar tone like Pat. Nobody is as technical or creative. Genius.

"Second Wind" by Brian Auger's Oblivion Express is pretty good, too. Todd Rundgren wrote a song about that one, too, and I don't think anyone sang about the first one.

Just too busy. I played it at slower speed and its slightly better.

"Third Wind" is probably not my favourite track on the album, due to its frenetic content and overflowing arrangements, but there's still something ethereal and exhilarating about it, and the vocals have a lot to do with that!

First time I heard this tune it reminded me so much of Elton John from the early 70's albums only to realize that the beautiful strings are arranged by Paul Buckmaster, who put his stamp on Elton classics "Madman Across The Water", "Levon", "Have Mercy On The Criminal" etc...

This song always reminds me my favorite movie: "A Clockwork Orange" because there is a short scene with the sound track "I want to marry a lighthouse keeper" what create the same atmosphere in my opinion. Beside that I like this song because it once again shows their stylistic width.

Footsteps In The Snow is one of the best pieces ever written, in my opinion. So haunting and strange. I grew up with Debussy, so it's really cool to hear such a unique take on some of his pieces. So interesting.

A little gem of a song. I doubt its anybody's favorite track but the care and polish it was made with shines through.

I played this song once to a friend of mine who's a huge lover of New Orleans jazz. He thought it was a great band playing! Never once; not even with his extensive knowledge of the genre, did he ever consider that it was all done by one guy. On a guitar!

The ending solo section still mystifies me today, and I wonder why more guitarists haven't really taken what May started and ran with it. Nobody did it or does it like Queen.

Just to be clear - there are no clarinets, trombones, trumpets, or any wind instruments on this track. Just guitar covering all those sounds. Some of it recorded one note at a time with volume swells. It's a stunning achievement, but the effect is so realistic that it is often overlooked!

In your lyric run-through you skipped "All through the years, in the end, it appears there was never really anyone but me". Given its place in the narrative right after B and Sally parted company, this is obviously intended to convey deep meaning, but I never was completely sure how to interpret it. I guess it means that despite his attempts to build relationships, he never quite got his dad's message and that has left him utterly alone.

Definely a great display of guitar playing by Brian May. You need to pay attention to the nuances and effects.

This is a great break after The Prophet's Song" . Brian sang this and his guitar did all the big band sounds. Playing the whole album is such a fun listen!

It's a fun track with thoughtful lyrics, but done so well it's always enjoyable to listen to. Few other bands would have done something like this, so that's enough to commend Queen in my eyes. Trad Jazz was very popular in the UK, alongside rock and roll, in the UK at the time Brian May was growing up, and he would have been hearing people like Chris Barber, Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball in the singles charts.

Some people (I'd say very few people) compared the eclectic and musical variety of the Queen to the Beatles' music, I found that this song is something I can combine to some crazy Beatles crazy and funny stuff on White Album for example but here Queen were so moderate and thoughtful, no crazy at all, I mean it's fun, it's just an enjoyable song. (It can be a very good tune for the Snow White and the seven dwarves, which I love very much!!)
