Oh man I remember this movie ! I was 13 and watched this. Their rival band only knew one song LOL " I shot the Sheriff"
The high school is Lake Highlands High School and the mall is Town East Mall. Both are still standing. And the Granada Theater in Greenville Ave is still standing.
I remember this on AFN in Germany in 1979. Couldn’t remember the name of the movie, but I recall that wretched version of “I shot the sheriff.” Thanks for the memories from all those years ago. Love this movie.
I think Clint Howard was 40 years old on the day he was born.
Charles Martin Smith looks it too lol.
I swear his hairline started receding during his time on "Gentle Ben".
Make up worked miracles for him on the Andy Griffith show

This is the cleanest copy of this movie I've ever seen online!! It's quite excellent. I have somewhere in storage a vhs tape that has this movie and the "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" movie in excellent, clear condition (as far as a vhs recording in SLP can be back in the early days of VCR's) with full commercials like this. I believe "Cotton Candy" and the KISS movie were aired on consecutive Saturday nights (I might be incorrect on that....but if not they aired pretty close to each other.). My Dad had bought the VCR to mainly record football and wrestling but he also recorded these two movies which we watched together numerous times. Thanks for uploading "Cotton Candy"; it brought back some wonderful memories!
I just came across this channel. Thx! It's cool seeing the retro commercials, as well!
This is great !!! Super clean version too !!! I was 14 years old the night that this TV Movie aired and have never forgotten it !!!
I was born in 71! I rem. Seeing this as a rerun probably in the early 80’s ! But this is great ! My fav. Decade the 1970’s ! Being a big kiss fan to this day it was great to see a advertisement for kiss meets the phantom of the park! But did you others spot that kiss hidden egg in the movie ? Get back to me on that and leave a comment !!!!!! ⚡️space ace Ron⚡️
The whole movie! Finally!
I like how Ron Howard always tries to give his brother Clint a decent role in his films.
Ron couldn't save Clint from Ice Cream Man.
Wow! What a find. I didn’t know that movie of the week intro existed.
I remember watching this!
Holy Cow! The Grail is located
Thank you for this.
1:10:19 Ron and Clint Howard's dad Rance as the principal.
I was 14 years old when this film debuted.
39:23 Kim Basinger in shampoo commercial.
Funny . . . that's mentioned in the description . . .
70s hair perfectly feathered and fluffed.
7:49 That’s the most wretched cover of “I Shot the Sheriff” I’ve ever heard.
The sheriff probably turned the gun on himself when he heard this.
I can't listen to either Marley's or Clapton's versions anymore because of that ratchet-azz cover.😱
This was Ron's second movie, made just after his first feature film as a director - 1977's "Grand Theft Auto". His "American Graffiti" buddy Charles Martin Smith gets the lead role, and another "Graffiti" cast member - Manuel Padilla Jr. - also co-stars. Manuel, Ron, and Clint all got their starts as child actors in the 1960s. Charles also had another music-based movie that same year, playing Ray Bob in "The Buddy Holly Story".
Cool, this is when I saw this during Elementary School in the Los Angeles Area, thanks for posting this❗
I thought this was the "Rocky" for the music band movies❗ I think the day after I saw this I was with my group of friends and was playing on the bars outside, kind of like gymnastic bars during recess❗
Toad!
This movie was aired a month after I was born.
1:32:34 Alan Kalter makes an unusual on-camera appearance for Efferdent
1:04:13 Dave Madden voiceover for Burger Chef
If I could only find a time machine and go back to 1978... Great TV film with a great message about creative collaboration and the benefits of team solidarity with youths made me smile and laugh many times while watching Cotton Candy. They should show this film when workplaces get their employees together for team building skills. It would make a huge difference I think. Why the three major networks gave up on showcasing TV Movies of the Week programming is beyond me. It was such a great outlet to make some really interesting and creative films. Its all absolute dreck and exploitative trash now on TV. TV now in the 2020's is basically what the Sidney Lumet film Network predicted in 1976. Charles Martin Smith was such a good actor. He should have been in more films or at least had his own TV series. The Cool Whip woman is a real kooky lady. I always thought she was a bit mental but this ad when she's talking to herself about the "new and improved" Cool Whip and no one's around is very telling that she was losing her mind.
If I could go back to 1978, I would stay.
@@rino7789 Same here. Having to readjust from 21st century eyes back to Analog eyes will be challenging at first but I think that off balanced feeling will wear off quickly. Only thing missed will be my 16X9 1080p HDMI flatscreen TV.
"Hello, fellow teenagers!"
Had a disagreement with a friend years back. I was sure "Kiss meets the Phantom" was the title. Not Phantom of the park, at the time anyways.
It was both. Apparently for promos, NBC shortened the title.
On the night that first aired, the bumper voiceover was NBC Burbank's own Peggy Taylor. She later did bumpers a few years later for NBC Late Night Movie's airing of this.
*I'll watch later.... for the commercials.*
I probably would have enjoyed this had I saw it at the time it aired, especially the too-good-to-be-true girlfriend. It has an Afterschool Special feel to it.
Never heard of this movie.
Shoot Yeah 👍
Three years before Bryce was born
Don't recall this one, but been seeking one I think was 1977. All I remember of it is Jeff Bridges had a silver Camaro and the music was Elton John Bennie and the jets. Ain't much, but all I remember.
Aloha Bobby and Rose came out in '75 and featured Bennie and the Jets and other Elton numbers . *Paul Le Mat was the lead actor not sure if this is the one you're thinking of
@@robhigh5991 That looks to be a decent one there. Now gotta see it too, the one I remember was more of a Ridgemont High type Camaro. Bummer is I don't see it within Jeff's work history so IDK if it ever was ... Thx.
I was 14 years old
1:58:12 Good thing we didn’t hear the end of that sentence 😅
Wait a minute ... is that Stephen Tobolowsky in the Burger Chef ad?
Good catch. I didn’t recognize him with hair.
2:01:21 Joe Glover, alpha male news anchor extraordinare...
The band kinda sounds like ben folds
Male Pattern Baldness Theater presents…
Cmon. Who wasn't 30 years old in their senior year. 😂
@@BushcraftingBogan Hey! CMS was 25 and Clint was 19!
Seriously that was the WORST garageband I have EVER heard.
If you see that term in passing and don't look carefully, one might misread the term as "garbage band."
Rapid Fire were horrible !!! :)
