From the 1978 movie "Cotton Candy" - the band sings this song during the prelims of the Battle of the Bands before facing the evil Torbin Bequette and his band "Rapid Fire"
I remember this movie so well, and have thought about it for years, even trying to find it on video. I still remember how much my brother liked it. Cliff Howard as Corky Mc Fearsom--now that was funny!
Wow!! I watched this randomly in the 90's on the ABC Sunday late show, and was rolling with laughter. I've always remembered it and so glad I found it on here. Come to find it's a Ron Howard flick, makes it even funnier.
@@bomahker Oh, yeah. It’s total unintentional comedy. No one ever knows this movie when I mention it, not that I necessarily expect them to since it is such a random flick.
I used to shoot smack with George Smalley behind the taco stand in 1977 (long before he wore generic football jerseys.) Barry & Bart Bates later became big time dope pushers in Texas.
I was saw this wonderful movie when it was first aired in 1978. Along with discovering The Beatles at that time, it was the first thing that made me want to be in a band, when I was 10 years old. I remember the lead singer from Rapid Fire was a total dick! I got into a band when I was 14...and still play in one
I have a copy on DVD. I bought it in 2006 for 10 $. Your brother has good taste. If your brother wants to come to Montreal I will show it to him. I searched for this movie for 24 years off and on and I am glad I never quit searching for it.
I don't know how you managed to find it, because I've looked online and everything else. My brother really can't go anywhere because he passed away from leukemia the week before Christmas in 2008. Naturally, I think about him a lot and am tied to things we both liked. He used to be in a few bands himself and there were a few TBs running around in his circle too. I naturally also have a fondness for That Thing You Do.

I remember this film, had a crush on the drummer

classic! Thats a blast from the past. Amazing, how memorable this movie is and what it means to people. Obviously a sign of true greatness!

Best TV...MOVIE...ever. I've seen it about 15 times.
Wow!!

Ha! Funny thing, same thing happened to me. I like the fact that it's not meant to be a comedy, but is freakin hilarious!

I was in a Tiny Tim Tribute band. But I have long since hung up my Ukelele modded with an EMG active pickup, just in case I wanted to go to eleven.
That's Letterman announcing. He was all over SoCal comedy clubs in those days, so it's not surprising that he'd get film work occasionally.

i been going to this mall since 1982
i'm sure this hasn't stood the test of time. I sure loved it when I was a little kid. I didn't realize it was directed by ron howard.
I taped it off ABC in 1994, greatest movie ever!
F*** Rapid Fire!
I agree, the instrumental was fine but Torbins singing? Egad ask Simon Cowell what HE would think
you don't see battle of the bands contests very often today, radio stations used to do this, it's not something they have time for anymore
great movie!
Starring Clint Howard as Ron Howard's geeky younger brother.
OK, the first thirty seconds of this song is sorta awesome.
Please post full movie! I beg of thee!
This movie made me and every musician at school wanna start a band with girl drummer!
I'm with you, I'd love to see this movie again. As far as I know its owned by Disney and they have it locked away, bastards.

I loved this movie back in the day, and watching it again now, George was like The Rivers Cuomo of the 1970's
What people don’t know Is that they actually played their own instruments, maybe not the bass player but the others did
Is this the same group that played at The Cinnamon Cinder in Long Beach, CA. in the 60's?
Thanks for sharing that... too funny
EU TINHA 9 ANOS QUE LEGAL ACHEI O FILME LINDO
So who wrote this song?
ben folds first band!
and to think if Torbin got into Axl Roses face, he'd be dead
Ron's brother is CLINT, not Cliff. Their father, Rance, was also in this movie.
i remember the strip poker scene
they were better than I could play & I play a little.
Just imagine if Torbin approached Axl Rose in this day and age, he would have gotten the shit kicked out of him
Wow...sounds a lot like early "the Cure" to a point

They're like Weezer, but with all the coolness, talent and gregariousness sucked out of them.
Rapid fire was a better band
you must be kidding me, that is the absolute WORST group I ever heard
Eww!
All they ever do is "I Shot the Sheriff!"
I was only joking
Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!!
