Thanks for telling this story. My brother age 63 is named after Shoeless Joe and our last name is Jackson. My father loved baseball and his father actually played for a mill team in Pennsylvania in the 30’s. He was struck in the head during a game while at bat and died later that day from his injuries. This actually happened before my father was born. Tragic story but part of our family history. Thanks again Jordan.
Wow that’s a sad story man. Thanks for sharing it tho. Quite a history.
I wish my late husband could view this. He would have loved it! The night before he passed he & our son got to watch their beloved Cubs win the World Series! Thanks for bringing me a bittersweet memory. ⚾️❤😢
Jordan thanks for the opportunity to find out more on the life of Shoeless Joe
I found it interesting that there were 19 baseballs placed on his grave. The Black Sox scandal was the 1919 World Series so maybe it was done intentionally.
I liked when he was portrayed in the movie Field Of Dreams
Excellent movie!
Great video, RIP Shoeless Joe❤😢
Thanks Jordan. I learned somethings I had not known before about Joe. I think he was used by the system
Joe Jackson & Pete Rose for the HOF. Joe has been seen playing just down the road from me in Dyersville, IA.
I can’t believe you were in Greenville, SC. My parents are buried in the same cemetery at Shoeless Joe. Wish I could have met you! You’re one of the best! Great video Jordan!
Brother, I greatly appreciate your love of baseball. Tommy Lasorda also played baseball around South Carolina. My dad watched Tommy pitch several games in Camden SC during the mid 50's.
Yes indeed
What a shame he was tarnished with that brush. Thank you for introducing me to him.
Your bat has definitely seen better days Jordan. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
He deserves to be in the hall. Buck and him were stand up team mates ,they both could have snitched on their teammates but didn't hoping that maybe the guys would change there minds. The same man that band them from baseball from what I've heard also said that blacks would never play baseball in the majors also long as he was commissioner and he's in the hall of fame. I just dont understand
If the 2017 Astros didn't get banned from baseball, I don't know how they can justify this.. cheating is cheating.. especially in a world series.. its funny who mlb DECIDES to punish and who they dont.. roger clemens, mark Mcgwire, and Barry bonds all unofficially blacklisted from HOF, but Big Papi gets in.. they had copies of the checks he wrote paying for peds...
Great vlog !!
If the spineless commissioner had any balls he would have banned the 2017 Astros even if it would come to nothing.
Maybe there should be a place in the HOF for PED players…etc…
Personally I think Joe should be in the HOF based on what he did on the field and the evidence he didn’t participate in the “activities”
Remember the movie “Eight Men Out”…?
Good movie…
Thank you Jordan this was great. My father told me about this man while we were watching Field of Dreams together. My grandfather was a coal miner and he also played ball on their team. That's back in this era when small towns had their own teams and would compete.my grandfather team was called the Barnsboro Allstars!
Thanks for this Jordan. I only knew what Field ofDreams told about him. He was definitely unfairly banned, but then I have always felt Pete Rose was unfairly banned as well.
Love your videos Jordan! My parents grew up just south of Greenville and my uncle told me stories of him getting to see Joe play ball for a mill team when he was a boy. He also told me about seeing him play after the scandal. Thanks for sharing!
I saw the movie field of dreams it was a good movie shoeless Joe Jackson was a good ball player to bad he didn't get in the baseball hall of fame good vlog Jordan Vickie napa california
Welcome to my hometown of Greenville! It was such a joy to see you do a story about Shoeless Joe. Hope you got a chance to see his statue and his house in our beautiful downtown area by the Greenville Drive stadium. I hope you enjoyed your visit! I love your videos!
I did! I thought it was an awesome town. There is a second video I made in town of all the other spots, including his liquor store and the field he started playing on
@@DazewithJordantheLion yay! I am glad you got to sight see while you were here! I will have to go check out that video!
Thank you Jordan for the beautiful presentation.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jordan, You not only entertain me, you often times educate me as well! I found his history very interesting. Another awesome video! And thank you for Cinnamon Block 😊
Very good book titled “Eight men out” by Eliot Asinof about the scandal and far more informative than the movie “Field of Dreams “
That's my hometown! Sorry I missed your visit.
Jordan, I don’t know how many stories of so many people I’ve heard you tell but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t know about most of them unless you were telling the story. Love the research you do and the empathy that always comes through, a reflection of the kind of person you are.
I have a replica of Jackson's Black Betsy bat it is so cool its 46 ozs and the handle is so thick I can't get my stingy fingers around it. I live in Burlington Iowa been a lifelong White Sox fan and read about Jackson in the early 80's. If I could go back in time and see baseball as it was played in the old days and what player would i want to see first I used to say I want to see Babe Ruth first but I want to see Joe Jackson I have this dream where I sit with my parents and grandparents and all my family from the past around me and we are at a game to watch the White Sox and Jackson do his thing that would be my field of dreams
As an attorney, I'm horrified and disgusted that any attorney would have a "signed" confession from an illiterate person. At best, this doesn't smell, it stinks to high heaven!
Thank you for this lovely video. I hope Joe and Katie both rest in peace.
Enjoyed, Thanks for sharing, Jordan ,Jah 😊
Many thanks Jordan - a really great tribute.
Watch Eight Men Out. Good book, too.
Jordan - love your love of BB History. Thanks for doing all these BB stories. Jackson did testify to a grand jury that he did take $5000 for the fix and his testimony , along with that of Cicotte & Williams conviently "disappeared" when the sox were put on trial in 1921. Chick Gandil who was a dirty player and who did fix games for $ was the leader of the fix. In fact, he cheated his teammates and kept the lion share of fix money for himself. He retired after the 1919 World Series. Finally, Jackson was able to successfully sue the White Sox & Charles Comisky for back pay.
This is a great story with many implications - one of which "No Gambling" is keeping the greatest hitter Pete Rose out of the BBHOF. Did you tour Jackson's home/museum in Greenville?
Great video Jordan. Arguably one of the greatest ball players ever. He's a legend down here in the South . I believe Judge Landis acted unjustly in banning Shoeless Joe and Buck Weaver . Perhaps some of the others were guilty but Joe or Buck wanted no part of the fix as the story goes. They knew about it. And unfortunately they had to be treated as much as Chick Gandhill, Swede Riesberg. Who were the main culprits. I for one would love to see Buck and Joe reinstated in to Baseball. Long live Joe Jackson.
❤ the baseball videos. Thanks again Jordan for another cool video.
Recently watched Field Of Dreams 😊 how ironic haha thanks Jordan!
Phenomenal Baseball Player and I wish I could of seen him play.
Thank you for another great story
Feel a dreams movie ⚾️ DVD 📀💖⭐️🎶 Joe Jackson Rlp 😇
It's time for Costner to make another Baseball movie! Hey Kevin, get Joe in the Hall of Fame.
Cool! One of my towns. My Grandpa knew Joe before and after the 1921 trial. Do Buck Weaver sometime. Or, all of them. 😎
DB Sweeney starred as Shoeless Joe in the movie Eight Men Out. It's a great movie.
Baseball has such a wonderful history!
Thanks for awesome video
Didn’t know you would be out this way! Would have loved to say hi. Great channel.
Joe was RailRoaded!! & Ty was the best hitter ever! JJ
I actually live in the hometown of shoeless joe jackson im hannibal mo ..hes very celebrated he has a shoeless joe jackson celebrity golf tournament an little league branch he has a painted mural aling with Samuel"mark twain" clemens and the voice of jiminy cricket ukelele ike
A fabulous baseball player. TFS
Such an interesting story. Very sad that he was tricked into signing something he couldn’t read
I am a White Sox fan because of Shoeless Joe, the only thing is he got paid, one of the few players that did get paid. I hope one day a commissioner will have the balls to reinstate him.
Love the stories of old-time baseball. Thanks Jordan! Jeff/Boston
Live feed and corresponding live with the patrons. Would be real nice ❤
Thanks for this Jordan. I always heard Joe and most of the others were innocent. Maybe 2 players were actually guilty 😔 Very sad indeed. 😢
Great vlog I love basdball
Really enjoy all your videos. I watch your over seas ones every night. Do you have to be a Patreon to get any of your merchandise ? Keep up the great work. Thank you very much for my trips.
I don't really have much merchandise other than what's on www.dazewithjordanthelion.com/
I just ordered me a Jahs shirt. This old lady is happy now.. THANKS@@DazewithJordantheLion
His house is next to downtown Greenville ball field
Yep, I wemt
@DazewithJordantheLion how was it? I live in Greenville South Carolina and never been
Even before he got kicked out, Joe had a knack for making money, even if he was illiterate. He definitely was one of the greatest hitters ever.
Very interesting, are you going to take us to the museum??
Yes that's part two
New cleats... hurt his feet. Field of Dreams!!!
it is sad that he got banned and If I recall, if I'm wrong please tell me, that others said he didn't do anything to throw the series
Jordan, I wish I had known you where in town Greenville SC, I would have loved to have had dinner with you. Maybe next time.
Sorry I only do my meet ups on patreon because I can't announce where i'm gonna be publicly or the business gets Harassed. I did do a meet up on this trip in greenville with fans
Cool story , and he died so young!
Kennesaw mountain Landis I beileve was from Darrtown near where i lived. Is President Johnson buried in that cemetery?
Keep the daag tune for all video
The seedy character you mentioned was Arnold Rothstein.
Yeah my mind blanked on his last name
Welcome to my neck of the woods
Joseph W. Jackson?
I thought his name was Joseph Jefferson Jackson.
Ill watch and see if I learn :)
Surprised you being a Cincy Reds fan that you did'nt mention Pete Rose one of the all great players also banned from the Hall of Fame. Nice inside story on Jackson, thanks.
Why? Pete rose had been talked about enough, and really didn't have anything to do with this, to me.. totally different. Pete didn't cheat. They banned him for betting.. now all of the games are sponsored by betting websites.. gotta love it
Cool that you're in Greenville. What did you think of the city?
I enjoyed it. I made a second video going around town showing joe's old stomping grounds
@DazewithJordantheLion I hate I missed you being here. Hopefully next time I can do a meet and greet.
Listening to this story, i'm thinking Michael Jackson's parents had the same names.
Yes indeed!
He is the third greatest hitter ever.
Not according to ty cobb and babe ruth
Ichiro may have been better
@@DazewithJordantheLion I meant stat wise. His stats officially don't count. But he is third behind Cobb and Hornsby.
Go visit Hank Williams Jr grave
He doesn't have one yet
🫨🖐⚾️
Why didn't the Astros get banned?
Very good question.. everyone would like to know that...
