He got paid but it must eat at him that this guy that he probably was able to piece up when he he was starting out is now by far the superior fighter. Masvidal can't beat Covington in a UFC fight, can't beat him in a street fight, and that's why he disguised himself & sucker punched him. In Masvidal's mind, it was the only way he could do some sort of physical damage to a guy he's come to hate. Had Masvidal wanted the street fight, he had 4 guys with him to enforce a one-on-one fight the other night, but didn't.
Bigger picture is, when their relationship went bad, Covington had learned over many years what buttons to push to trigger Masvidal rather than vice-versa, because Covington's more educated. Covington has beaten Masvidal physically & mentally, and infuriated him to the breaking point. If anyone wants to criticize Covington for anything, it might be for Covington's absolute unwillingness to leave the war of words alone.
People, including Colby, refer to him as college educated what gets lost is that he's from a small, pretty rural, lower income town in Oregon. He grew up with a wooden spoon in his mouth. To be clear, im not accusing you of saying/thinking this

When you dislike someone like Colby, it's okay to throw rationality out the window and side with the narrative that paints him in a negative light. As you mentioned, other fighters commenting on this situation have done worse and for some reason doesn't get mentioned. We also saw the bias with UFC 272 where the analysts and media couldn't give Colby any credit for his performance. Instead they made excuses for street judas... Jorge did some stupid shit and it reinforces at least some of what Colby said about him.
This is without a doubt the best take on this whole ordeal.
I feel like in all forms of media, about all topics, we see one false narrative take shape, and every talking head just pick it up and run with it. It truly does feel like everyone is mindlessly reading from the same script and then your average person simply regurgitate it in every comment section. The lie spreads and becomes “fact”.
We truly live in a post truth, anti critical thought era, and it’s not only frustrating, it’s terrifying.

Bisping had a live show earlier and tried his best to make excuses for Masvidal, the dude actually put up a poll to see how his chat felt about this. The chat was FIRMLY on the side of Colby on this, so much so that Bisping backpedaling soon after he got the results of the poll. In fact the comment section in these other channels are thrashing their takes, it seems that the more they try to excuse Masvidal the more fan support Colby is getting.
