Listening to 21:14 onwards is very important. Once Ngannou fights Fury and 95% of the time loses humiliatingly and his stock goes down, once his management have got their short term checks for his fight. What happens next for him? He can't go back to the UFC, he won't bring much value for other boxing heavyweights nor legacy as the UFC will crown a new heavyweight champion, does he fight Arjan Bhullar? Fedor? Bader? joke fights that people won't pay for and will just find out the result once it's done. This is a short term one paycheck move, and after that the UFC aren't gonna take him back, where does he go?

What's weird here is that Ngannou came from not having anything to eat(in Africa) and being homeless in France, to having to "borrow" money for camps while making over a mil a year and asking the UFC to pay him 20-30 mils a fight, which only Connor makes.... Talk about forgetting where you came from and what the sport has given you.

I am a fan of Francis. I buy the whole story that comes with him too. However, I've been saying that he demands a ton for not selling and not beint a huge star. I think people forget how huge McGregor was when he boxed mayweather. And the frititas/Dana all banked on Floyd not being a big power hitter when they did that crossover. Honestly, for where Francis came from and for how the UFC has pushed and promoted him, he should be grateful and thankful if you want to get technical. I remember when they were promoting him as if he were already champ over stipe before their first fight.

I think the UFC cares to some degree because it isn’t a good look if their champion leaves the promotion and if he goes to One or Bellator they won’t here the end of it that the best heavyweight in the world isn’t in their promotion.

There were people packed outside the building watching tvs from outside in the rain, in the fucking rain... I called around to other bars and same story. That's my go to spot for watching the fights and it's only like that for Conor not even in the same universe for other fighters

To be fair, while I do think it’s partially ngannou’s fault, UFC 270 was basically bound to completely bomb unless you had some mcgregor level name in it. The UFC had just raised the PPV price and I was already seeing tons of people on social media protesting and saying they would not be buying the next PPV because of that, and also aside from the main and co-main, the fight card was absolutely atrocious, I mean it might have been the worst card for a UFC event I have ever seen in my life. I can’t think of a worse example, aside from the title fights, most fight nights are more stacked than UFC 270. 2 of the 3 other fights in the main event were fighters with no popularity behind them debuting in the UFC for the first fucking time, when has that ever happened!? Barring massive names like CM Punk or whatever (which they were not, they don’t even have wikipedia pages). That just shows how thin that card was, and people were already outraged at the increased prices, so regardless of if it was ngannou or if it was any other title fight, it was definitely going to flop. If it was even just an average UFC card and the prices hadn’t just gone up I am almost completely certain it would have made at least double the amount of ppv buys than it did.
People only buy the cards for the title fights.
The casuals do not give af about who is in between with rare exceptions like Gaethje/Chandler.
In my group of friends, they're all casuals and they were down to wat h Colby/Usman 2 and they only cared for Gaethje and Usman. They completely ignored Burgos/Billy Q and Frankie/Vera. Francis atleast had Moreno/Figgy 3. The Usman/Burns card was way worse.

They left it to him to carry the card, maybe the UFC weren't too keen on inflating his ppv numbers while negotiating. Still though, I feel like a star is pulling at least 400 or 500k ppv. Jon Jones doesn't have much sway with the UFC, but he pulls over 600k buys reliably, without other big names on the card..

I don’t think Ngannou realizes how much new talent the ufc has in the division now. Yes Gane lost but he’s still new in the ufc, like Khamzat, he has time to grow and I still see him becoming champ in the future. They also have guys like Aspinall and a KO machine in Tai Tuivasa. Plus Jon Jones plans on fighting at heavyweight so they have him as a HW draw if he ever fights again.

Everybody says UFC is great at promoting fighters, but in reality that is not the case. They try to pick who they want to promote, but still fail at it. The big stars in the UFC all came from their natural personality and fighting skills.

I agree with everything you've said IF Ngannou isn't planning on retiring after the Fury fight. With or without him being a draw he's going to get paid what he would essentially be paid for his next 10 UFC fights put together. This is the best business move for him if he's not wanting to do fighting anymore and wants to pursue other things.

I never got the sense that he was a draw or needle mover despite his accomplishments and many media appearances. Even now, he is best known as someone who is in conflict with UFC management, and not a must-watch talent. The core of his most rabid support aren't even people who care that much about him as a fighter or a personality, but as a living symbolic "fuck you" to Dana White. That is not something that translates into big number$.
Despite winning, he blew it in the Gane fight by not securing a memorable KO. If he goes off to boxing without the UFC's involvement, the ability to promote a fight with Fury will be severely hampered. He will not have access to any of his UFC footage, he'll have been stripped of his title, and his last fight (a forgettable affair) will have been well over a year in the past. There will be no juice heading into such a fight (if it happens). It has the total opposite of everything good Mayweather-McGregor had going for it. Francis cannot sell a fight like Conor can at all, and the circumstances leading into the fight are crap.
There are people out there thinking he's going to get a 20-30 million purse for fighting Fury. I think he's incredibly lucky if he gets more than 5 (before bonuses, incentives, etc.) Still, he would earn more than what his normal base pay is in the UFC, and he'd be happy to fulfill a dream so that's good. But it would pretty much be all downhill from there, barring a miracle.

You mention the PPV numbers being low for ngannou, but you’ve admitted before that the UFC purposely ruined that card to undermine Francis future negotiations.
The purpose of making the whole card weak, was to see how passionate fans are about Francis and how much he draws on his own. Did you watch UFC 246? That was one of the weakest cards of all time and sold 1.3 million buys because of Conor, that’s a star.
