One thing Miss Pamela does so expertly and effortlessly is allowing others to vicariously experience the yearning love she felt for those she admired and adored. There's a purity to the way she idolized(es) these people that feels sacred but doesn't prevent you from seeing them as human.

Your "Johnny Was" tunic is adorable. It's just so sad to think about how many talented musicians and singers from the 60s/70s we lost to drugs and alcohol. It's really unfortunate that they weren't able to continue sharing their stories and experiences with us.
Gram probably listened to country music with his father. My father was a country music guy but in the 60'S rock was on all the tv shows. One night we had gone frog hunting and on our way home at 5 am we got caught by a train. Dad turned the truck off and put the radio back on. Summertime blues was rocking at that moment. A memory I will never forget. Gram sure must have missed his mom and dad. . Gram just came up on my utube feed on his death anniversary. Been listening to him ever since. So many great songs. Gone far to soon.
I wasn't yet born when Gram was around, but I'm a HUGE GP fan... thank you so much for sharing your memories of him and of that time!

Good morning Miss Pamela 😊, I remember when I read your book I'm with the band, there was this part you wrote about Gram that when he would listen to George Jones he would get emotional and cry. Not only was he a good musician, but he was a caring, loving man as well despite his addition to drugs and you're so lucky to have known him and have him as a good friend. Thank you for posting about Gram. He's really a musical hero of mine. The 1970s would have been less without Gram. The Burrito's bassist Christ Etheridge went onto play with Willie Nelson for a long time. The Burrito Bros had a huge influence on Willie and Waylon before Christ joined. The "Cosmic Country" or "Country Rock" (Apparently Gram hated that term) was the catalyst for "Outlaw Country" really, as well as the more subtle movement of great artists like CSNY, Linda Ronstadt, etc. all adopting the pedal steel guitar sounds to their folk music, with greatly informed the Singer Songwriter genre of the 70s. I was born in the 70s, and grew my hair long in the 80s, and became a "freaker". Most of my friends were getting more into Heavy Metal, but my older sisters were always playing the Beatles, Doors, Who, Stones, Eagles, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Gram, etc., so I was Later-Dat Beatnik who kept the group grounded in Ginsberg, the Dead and Peace, whilst their natural inclination was macho and violent. Gram has always been the Soundtrack of my life. I played in rock bands and dropped out of school. But I always added in trippy country music aspects, and even bought a pedal steel guitar. My band opened for local Metal bands and we were playing Mama Tried, Only Daddy that'll Walk the Line, along with Zeppelin. People looked at us like we flew in from Mars, and we were so high on weed, coke and heroin, I guess we did "fly in". I turned a lot of people onto the Byrds, Flying Burritos, Gram & Emmylou Harris, NRPS, Etc. I earned an MBA and went in the Army to grow up and raise my family, but I always dabbed in hard drugs because I'm really a Bohemian at my core and corporate America makes me depressed, but I'm not really addicted any more. One day when my wife and I come to California, I would pay anything to meet you Miss Pamela. My wife thinks my crush on you is cute, but I love listening to your recollections of all my favorite musicians, and love the hell out of your books, etc. Peace, and sorry for the long post

I was just 12 or so when Gram passed so I learned about him later in my teens but really became obsessed when I heard the solo piano version of Thousand Dollar Wedding on CZcams. I just listened with tears rolling down my cheeks, the emotion in his voice, his phrasing, I was officially obsessed. I love his music so much, with the Burrito Brothers and Emmylou too. I have read several books and stayed in his room #8 at the Joshua Tree Inn. He did for me exactly what he did for you, he expanded my musical heart and my emotional heart as well. He was also hot as hell! 🔥I adore him. Thank you for sharing your experiences with him with us. 🌹🌹

I love your exuberance. Thanks for the positivity, especially in these times. Gram changed my life as well. As a closet country fan in the late 60s, the Burritos (in my mind) gave me permission to openly dig country. I was and still am nuts about them. And, of course, Hillman and Parsons. Look forward to enjoying more of your stories.

I spent a few days w Gram when I was 18. He was really nice, funny. I didn't come away ftom it w a great need to tell everybody about it. It wasn't a groupie encounter tho it was intimate. Im 69 now. Who would think to look back now

I just finished your first book. It was such an engaging read. I think you should get back to creating fashionable clothing. How fun to have truly vintage-inspired clothing to wear. The coats and dresses of the 60s-70s were insane. Your creativity is inspiring

I saw Chris Hillman and the desert Rose Band years ago.
They sang “The One that got Away” right before John Jorgenson’s solo, Chris shouted out “Oh Pamela”.
I knew that he was thinking of you snd wanted to share this.

What an absolute beautiful video. That shirt.....so much love in it, I teared up. Thank you for always keeping Gram's name alive. I learned about Gram....from YOU. Years before I ever heard him sing, I had read all about him in "I'm With The Band". Then, years later, I heard the original Gram vocals on "One Hundred Years From Now" and "The Christian Life" and "Hickory Wind" when the Byrds box set came out. Immediately flashed back to everything I had read about him in your book, immediately got the Burritos albums. Now it's years later, and I have every bootleg, every outtake, everything I can find. And it all started with "I'm With The Band". NO ONE was talking about Gram Parsons when you wrote "I'm With The Band". I doubt those records were even in print! And yet you devoted a lot of the book to him. Thanks, Miss Pamela. For EVERYTHING, not just that. You are the patron saint of all real rock & roll fans. What could I do for Gram? Nothing. Other than buy his product and clap my hands at a concert. You made that beautiful shirt, that he cherished. I love that it found it's way back to you, I love that his wife held on to it for so long. And now you share it with all of us, his fans. And YOUR fans. Love and gratitude FOREVER.
Emmylou Harris has also done a tremendous job keeping Gram's name and music in the foreground. Even in the period after his death when she couldn't bear to publicly talk about him she sang his songs and the songs she wrote about him. She said his voice created a special feeling in her, and she wanted everyone to have that experience. He was a very special musician and person.
I didn't know who the Flying Burrito Brothers were until I read your first book years ago. Thanks for educating me! I do remember your love for Hillman, too.

Pamela's right; Gram really is that good. As for the drugs, his addiction was a tragedy but better understood when you read about his scarred childhood. Too much death and stress. 🤠💔

I hope it isn't rude, but may I ask you a question about Gram? I'm such a big fan, and if you replied I'd just die, but I would love to know, was Gram and Chris' relationship turbulent? Me and a friend have talked a lot about the both of them and she feels that Chris never really liked Gram and only kept him around for his talents. Anyway, I'm so sorry this is such a bloated question, thank you, Miss Pamela!
Very interesting and fun video. I read two different stories about Gram in 1968 the Byrds were booked to tour South Africa but he refused to go due to his opposition to apartheid and he was fired from the band. Do you know about this?
