Question, if you freeze the video at 9:38 you can see the info sheet and there are several gems where your reading of 3.17 would fit into. How do you then determine which stone it is?

Wouldn't it be simpler to have a framework supported on the bench and from which the item is suspended in the flask, and have the flask resting on the scale pan? The weight of the flask and water on their own are then compared with their weight when the item is suspended in the water. The difference will be equal to the difference between the weight of the item in air and the weight of the item in water, as measured in the video method and following Newton's third law. The complexity of supports would be simpler.
