Jeff Lynn can't possibly be recognized enough for his contribution to Rock n Roll. He won't be appreciated until he passes, and he'll be more recognized when the artists he's worked with pass as well. He's a legend that most people won't recognize until after he's gone. He's amazing.

Jeff Lynne wrote this song in an afternoon. While making the album "Face the Music" they realized that there wasn't a single yet so, Jeff sent the others away to the pub while he sat down and got to work. By the time they came back he had "Evil Woman" basically ready for them to start rehearsing.
    Jeff is a bloody genius.

He wrote the song about an "evil woman" he fell in love with who took him for a lot of his money and broke his heart in the end. He sent his bandmates to a football game that night and then sat down at his piano and banged out this masterpiece in thirty minutes. 30 minutes. I can't write my damn grocery list in 30 minutes, and this genius writes a million+ hit song in less time than it used to take Dommino's Pizza to deliver your food to you. Gotta do "End of the Line" with the Traveling Wilburys next. It's such a fantastic low-key jam. Also, remember that when you listen to any Wilbury stuff, they only spent maybe a week or two writing and recording each album. They weren't trying to be some super-group. They were just a bunch of guys who liked to do a jam session with each other.

Personally I think Jeff Lynn was ok for the songs, tho I'm suspicious he listened a little to closely to Jellyfish's 'She still loves him' from 1992 to reference what a '90's sounding Beatles group would sound like for Free as a Bird, rather than leaning on the Abbey Rd timeless sound and equipment.

No other band has created such a glorious merger of rock melodies and symphonic orchestration, generating undeniable pop hits within cohesive, meticulously constructed album-length programs. Led by vocalist, guitarist, composer and producer Jeff Lynne, the Electric Light Orchestra has been fueled by a commitment to pop songcraft and a visionary use of recording-studio wizardry. Some facts about Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. Jeff Lynne is one of the most versatile musicians ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. He didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco.
Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world... 51 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas, festivals and Stadiums. During Jeff Lynne's ELO 2019 Tour, many reviews agreed in saying they are the best live Classic Rock Band in the world still touring and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius( From Forbes Magazine and the Washington Post).
ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Songwriter award ( ASCAP ) in 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He previously has received three Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, including the award for outstanding services to British music.
He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and so many others...

Especially since he wrote it to be a song for ELO, the new band he and Roy were forming at the time. But Jeff thought it sounded too "poppy", for the raw, edgy, heavy strings ELO sound he was envisioning, so he released it instead as a song by his current (at the time) band, The Move. A few years later, once ELO was transitioning into rock/pop, ELO would play it live, and Jeff decided to re-record it as an ELO song for his '76 album, A New World Record.

As I've already told you, when the song was finished, Jeff decided it was "too poppy" for the ELO sound he and Roy were going for, and so he released it as a song from The Move. Then during ELO's early years, they played the song in concert to rave receptions. The problem was, Todd Rundgren was covering the song in his live concerts (and live album), and one day a music critic accused Jeff of copying Rundgren. Jeff was not happy and to make sure there was no confusion about whose song it was, he re-recorded it and put it on, A New World Record. I really like ELO, even though he/they were accused of being a bit to "commercial," I didn't feel like that was the case, I felt like he/they were a new sound and I certainly consider Jeff Lynn as a musical genius. Thank you for reacting to this song. The instrumentation/production is incredible and from what I recall hearing back in the day, Lynn a lot of the studio work by himself for the recordings. For mastery alone, I am going with a solid A+ for this song and this whole album. You must react to The Traveling Wilburys, they are monster good but nothing like you might think they would be. Adding Roy Orbison's voice to that band was, in my opinion the masterstroke.
